Latches/locks/linkage problem

Latch/lock on center console/jump seat failure. The plastic latch for the lid on the center console, which is also a jump seat when upright, has failed. The result is the lid can become open if the seat is tilted up to use as a jump seat, or if downward pressure is applied to the rear of the lid, or if you hit a bump or if you are in a crash. The contents of the compartment can be released and pose an imminent danger to the occupants of the vehicle in the result of a crash or otherwise become a distraction to the driver. The plastic latch is not available as a replacement part from GMC. The entire console must be purchased for $450 to replace latch and it has the same defective latch.
