Air Bag Light On problems of the 2009 GMC Sierra 1500

Truck has 56000 miles. Had to service airbags a few years ago. . Big bucks. Now have service airbag light on for 2nd time. I replaced both impact sensors but that did not fix problem. It seems that other sierra owners have experienced similar airbag problems. I'm wondering if it is safe to drive and if this is a defect that gm is ignoring.
