Carrier/rack problems of the 2009 GMC Sierra 1500

Hello, I was just at mossy GMC in new orleans,la. , where I went to see about getting my recalled airbag ordered and replaced. The service rep told me that when they change out the airbag, most of the time the dashboard cracks even more, where they willbe working, but they will not replace the broken dashboard. I feel that this is totally rediculous! if I didn't have that damage before going into a service center, and now I have damage caused by the service center, I should not be having to pay for a new dashboard out of my own pocket. I feel that a cracked dashboard could compound the severity of a car crash, being said, it could shatter into pieces upon airbag deployment and send shards of dashboard flying at both the driver and their passengers. The shards, could also lacerate the airbags and render them useless. Please help me out with this situation.

Takata passenger airbag gm recall n212328780. Gm safety recall letter dated 02/2021 indicating part is not currently available and I will be notified once parts are available. I request, with concern, an investigation be performed on the airbag propellant components for signs of expansion problem which may have caused a crack/split in vehicle dash surface. This complete crack/split is located near upper left corner of recalled passenger airbag/cover. Dash appears to be slightly raised in that area of crack/split. Previous gm recall issued for same dash problem for other model year vehicles?.

Dash is cracked in several places, especially around passenger airbag, possibly creating shrapnel in an accident.

Dash cracked above steering wheel. Only 29000 miles and always garage kept. Truck in excellent condition. Original owner. Appears to be poor quality materials. Concerned this could effect airbags.

Dashboard behind the I strument clusrer and by the passenger air bag is cracked. Could cause flying dash pieces in an accident with air bag deployn ment.

Really upset that dash has cracked in my pickup just learned its a common problem gm doesnt want to fix. $1300 repair cant afford that.

Cracked dashboard from windshield to airbag on passenger side. With no aftermarket replacements available only over lays caps . Noticed multiple complaints on safety issues online from other gm owners.

Takata recall severe cracks originating from the top left corner of passenger airbag. Airbag looks like it has a bulge causing the dashboard to crack. Concerning that airbag will deploy and pieces of plastic will injure the passenger or driver of pieces are deployes all over the cabin.

Dashboard cracked around passenger airbag cover and forward of the instrument cluster, cracked in stationary or when parked.

Dashboard cracks, on both sides, above the instrument cluster and at the passenger side airbag. Passengers side crack is effecting how the airbag access cover snaps into the excisting dash recess. It's very bad and sagging down effecting how the airbag would deploy.

My dash is cracking and I am worried it will puncture the air bag. This can not be safe. I have read that others are having the same issue. Why is the issue not being resolved?.

Was driving and noticed a rattle noise in the dash. Looked around the top of the dash and found 2 cracks (2 and 3 inches long) on the dashboard above the instrument panel. I never put anything on the dashboard. It looks like probably a crack caused by the heat.

The dash on my truck has cracked by the passenger airbag and also by the instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. Online forums prove that gmt900 vehicles (tahoe, suburban, yukon, silverado, sierra) have this issue. The headlights keep blowing and have replaced them 8 times. This is a safety problem due to having to drive at night. Also both right side doors will not unlock and this is a major problem when you have a small child.

Not necessarily an incident. I bought the truck used in January 2014. The dash was already cracked. Since then people have been talking about the dashes cracking on gm trucks and yukons 2008-2010. Mine since I bought it has cracked more, and coming loose, one crack is near the air bag. I have brought it to gm's attention at my local dealership they refuse to fix it and want to charge me the full price of the dash to replace it with the same thing that was there, so it can break/crack again??? I took it to another dealership they say theyll fix it only for a percentage for the time past the warranty on the vehicle, and that its a one time deal I cant get the price and go back later. This has gone unrecognised by gm as a serious issue and a serious safety hazard if air bags deploy.

The dash on this truck has cracked in several locations. Afraid what would happen in the event of an accident if the air bags discharges causing parts of the dash to break apart and cause injuries.

Cracking of the dash around the left rear area of air bag cover,cracked all the way towards front of dash area, broke pieces falling in dash. . Concerns of flying projectiles in case of an impact causing more harm to passenger or myself from flying broken pieces of dash. I cant recalled exactly when it happened if the vehicle was parked moving. In motion or any other type motion that would cause this just every day driving normal.

Upon entering the vehicle, I noticed a line on the dashboard, and when I ran my fingers across it to check it out. I discovered that the dashboard was cracked. When I got home I inspected the crack a little closer and realized that this crack had been there for awhile, I just could not see it. The older part of the crack was black and the new crack was gray. This crack is consistent with other gm truck owners, and what they are experiencing with these type vehicles. This crack is in the same vulnerable location near the upper left corner of the airbag. I am currently working with GMC to replace this faulty material. This truck is 6 years old and has low mileage. This is a safety issue when it comes to the airbag deploying. No one knows how much of the dashboard will deploy with the airbag. GMC needs a recall. . . The internet is full of testimonies about gm products cracking dashboards. An investigation is necessary to find out about the quality of the material used in manufacturing these dashboards.

I bought this truck brand new and I can always remember hearing loud pops coming from the dash area on a regular basis. For several thousand miles, there was no visual damage as a result of these pops. Around 60,000 miles, however, I began to. Notice a crack in the dashboard near the passenger air bag. As I continued to drive the truck, I still heard the occasional pop and another crack soon appeared above the instrument cluster. More mikes driven, more pops, and more cracks. As anyone would do, I took my truck into the local gm dealership to let them know that something was wrong with the dashboard. I always used a sunshade when parking outside and I kept it parked in the garage at home. I also keep my truck maintained very well, as I can't stand a dirty and neglected vehicle. Since it had been well-maintained and was never driven hard, I expected gm to see the damage and replace it under warranty. To my dismay, however, they said that due to the age and mileage, that they would not be able to offer any assistance. Gm quoted me around $1200 to replace the dashboard if I wanted to get rid of the cracks. Astonished that gm would not warranty an obvious faulty item, I then searched online to see if anyone else had the same problem. I quickly found others in forums, youtube videos, and on facebook that had the exact same problem as myself, with cracks in the exact same places and very similar responses from gm when they tried to have the issue resolved. I found a group on facebook dedicated to this exact problem and it is consistent in '07-'13 model gm trucks and suvs. After being denied assistance by gm, having some mechanical knowledge, as well as the desire to continue driving this truck longer, I removed the dashboard only to find cracks in the dashboard where the screws fastened it in place, as well as clips broken off that were meant to hold it down into place.

Dash is cracking everywhere. It look piss poor for $35000 truck. It's started with a small crack. I tried to bond it together. Then eventually it spread leaving large holes and cracks.

My dash has cracked. One day I just got in my truck and noticed the dash had a small crack in the plastic. The crack has since multiplied to multiple cracks. It has happened not even driving my truck. I am afraid that since the crack is near my airbag that it will send shrapnel thruout the cab and cause serious injury.

Multiple cracks in dashboard top including dash cracks near passenger airbag. One crack appeared, then more cracks soon followed. Sent letters to gm executives who replied back that age and mileage of truck was too far outside warranty. No consolation offered except a minor credit toward new vehicle purchase. Truck is meticulously maintained and cracks pose safety concern during potential airbag deployment.

In the event of a wreck and air bag deployment the broken dash could easily send plastic fragments throughout the cabin.

The parking brake light turns on randomly, when just starting the vehicle, when just sitting in the parkinglot before moving, while driving, but mainly while slowing down. . . . While using the brakes. I have taken it to the dealership 4 or 5 times now, and they cant reproduce the problem in their shop, so they dont know how to fix it. It is getting worse now. Flashing and dinging when slowing down on the highway, or when going down hill. I am worried that it may trigger something, like the brakes. The dealership has worked with me, still "trying" to fix even after my warantee has expired. I also have the dash crack issue too . And is very concerning being on the rim of the air bag . This needs to be looked into and not wait til something bad happens. Be proactive, not reactive.

Dash has cracked in 5 places the dash is also peeling paint. Also the crime interior handles the chime is pulling off and extremely sharp. My exterior door handles paint is falling off in chunks on all 4 doors. My drivers side seat the lumbar support broke 3 times.
