6. 2l engine has well documneted problem with the valvetrane, I have had to fix it 2 times in 3 months. I have pictures and documents from servicing dealerships. Since my ownership, it has always been dealer-serviced. Unexpected catastrophic engine failure, which happened on a major interstate. Gm service technicians know there is a valvetrane issue. This instance, the warning light came on under and overpass, and the truck coasted to a stop just past the end of the on-ramp. A gm (Chevrolet dealership currently has it) and a GMC dealership has serviced it since my ownership.

The vehicle experienced complete lifter failure on cylinder number 4 bending the intake valve push rod thus shutting down the cylinder. The vehicle has 167,000 miles and is well maintained. The vehicle gave no warning signs that there was a problem. Simply driving down the road, normal engine temperature, normal oil pressure, the check engine light comes on at the same time the engine begins to mis-fire. Pulling over to the side of the road, I could hear lifter noise from the right bank of the engine. The dealership (ocean crest Chevrolet/GMC warrenton, oregon) confirmed the damage. The mechanic and the service manager both state the damage is a direct result of the gm cylinder deactivation system, and every single one they have repaired has been cylinder number 4. They further stated that gm has recommended a lifter change when repairing the damage, in other words, the lifters that were installed when the engine was originally built are defective. This damage occurs on both the 5. 3 and the 6. 2 with cylinder deactivation, and according to the dealership, it begins with cylinder number 4. This problem has also been responsible for cam damage which results in total engine replacement/rebuild due to metal contaminating the oil.
Hard shifting transmission and fluid smells burnt, shifts hard in the lower gears and reverse.
Vehicle stalling at low speeds oil pressure solenoid stuck fault and p0011 camshaft fault.
Truck completely shuts off at any speed going down the highway. Complete loss of power. Have to coast to side of road and restart vehicle.
The engine has 160,000 miles and just driving the camshaft and the lifters went out during normal driving. It showed no problems before hand. I’ve heard from multiple people that this is a big issue with the 6. 2l GMC sierra engines. The mechanic also stated it’s there biggest problem. The repair cost are $4,000 - $6000 dollars and the have to pull the whole engine and just fixing those two things. The cost of an engine is $7000 for a used with 100,000 miles and to me it would just happen again in around 60,000 miles or less. For a new engine non oem so an off brand it would cost $8,00 - $10,000 just for the engine. Almost as much as the truck cost not including the labor. This is completely unacceptable cost for repair for a common problem with this truck.

Engine failed December 2024 at 140,274 miles. 2 cylinders failed due to lifter failure and had a total loss of power. Engine was replaced by a local shop.
Timing chain broke with no warning and seized engine. Complete engine failure. Engine had to be replaced. Engine was inspected and replaced by certified gm dealer.
I know this is a well known issue with these trucks. Have had issues with power steering not working at low speeds which they claim it’s do to low voltage. This has happened numerous times and then on may 3rd I went to back into my driveway off a busy state route with hills on each end of the road. Put my hazard lights on let three vehicles pass and then I turned the wheel and gave it gas soon as the truck got into the middle of the road it shut off. Everything stopped working no hazard lights for about 10seconds and then I had to put the truck into park turn ignition key off and then back on to restart the truck. Again this is all do to low voltage from what everyone else has said with the same issue. There are no warnings what so every even the voltage meter is fine and the truck doesn’t hesitate at all it’s like someone disconnected the battery. I’m sure there is a way for gm to reprogram the pc for the voltage drop. At least have something like radio go out or ac, heat other than the engine and entire electrical shutting off. Something like this is going to get someone killed and gm should be held accountable for these problems.

Oil pressure pump failed to keep pressure despite regular maintenance.
Engine lifters keep going bad. The frame is rotting like I have never seen. Body is rusting out for second time. Blows lights every month. Rain getting in headliner and under rear seat. Ac breaks every year. All around worst fucking vehicle I have ever owned. GMC will not do anything about this. I'm tried.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?: the truck just stalls and dies without warning, all lights go off inside and outside and all power is lost. From digging on the internet, I found out the problem is due to one or more rusty/defective connection to ground which stops current from flowing and therefore stalls the vehicle and turns everything off. When the truck stalls, power steering and power assisted breaks are not available and this makes the truck very difficult to guide/stop for most people, making it a significant safety risk to occupants as well as others as the likelyhood of a collision increases significantly. In addition, since all electric accessories are disconnected, warning/flashing lights can not be turned on to advise others that the truck has stopped. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? the problem is hard to reproduce because it happens at random times, it has happened to me at least 5 times in the last month or so. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no warning messages or other symptom.
Going under 15mph, applying the brake causes the pedal to become stiff and lock up and not work. This has caused me to almost hit someone in traffic. I immediately got off the road and got my vehicle to a safe location off the road . Communicating with a dealer today to confirm possible recall issue or potential repairs.
I had the a/c condensor and low pressure line replaced due to the cracked welds on condensor.
My truck recently had an engine lifter fail when pulling out onto a very busy road. When I accelerated hard into traffic my check engine came on and I suddenly lost most of the engine power and it went into limp mode. I was almost rear ended when my truck nearly came to a stop. I was told it is a defective/poor design of the cylinder deactivation system from the dealer. Ther is no fix but to replace with the same lifter part number which was done and it also failed again 4 days later in a similar situation turning onto a road into traffic. My truck is now back in the shop to have lifters replaced twice in one weeks time.
Afm lifters are failing at a high rate. Had lifters replaced for $3k a year an half ago at 125k miles and they failed again at 149k miles just recently the problem is getting worse with the newer models.
My vehicle recently started "shuttering" while driving. Service report says it is a "common GMC issue with the torque converter", $3200. They also reported a "substantial leak" in the radiator, and again, says it is a very common fault of GMC trucks. And another $2700. If these conditions are as common as they indicate, why are there no corrective measures?.
Stability control truck felt no power and on off on again it happened suddenly how to fix?.
Cooling system radiator failure. Gm has issued a factory bulletin on the known issue bulletin no. : pi1513f. This could cause safety issues while traveling and have a radiator failure that is know by gm.
It turned off while driving on freeway I immediately put on n and start back up. It also pulls back as I’m driving normal 35mph. My rpm gaug goes up to 3 while driving down hill and locks.
Engine has a little over 137k engine shut down vehicle towed mechanic reports approx. 1 gal of dexcool in oil pan. Heads removed. Mechanic reports valve failure, resulting in piston implosion and engine lock up. Cost so far is at 7500. 00.
My lifters bent and my valves collapsed. I have had the vehicle repaired twice. No engine light warning. Also in Nov of 2022 oil is leaking into my cylinders. Common problem on several gm forums.
While passing a vehicle I lost all electrical power which in turn caused the vehicle to lose power. This same thing has happened several times at low speeds. I have the vehicle scheduled for July 2 to get looked at. The engined revved extremly high and it seemed like the transmission went into neutral. It then restarted. From time to time the vehicles power system will surge, blink, and generally act up. The priblem is intermittent. The check engine light will come in then go off, the engine has completely cut off several times while driving, the transmission acts up, radio will turn off, 120v outlet will turn off, occasionally the vehicle will fun for 5-15 seconds after being turned off and then sputter off. And 95% of the time the truck is absolutely fine.
My vehicle turned completely off and it put my breaks to the floor at 26 mph. My steering locked also as if I turned it off. Prior to this happening 3 months my steering column has a popping feeling. Not noise. Feeling. When I took it to the shop, they read the code and it said something along the lines of communication error. Dealership couldn't find anything wrong, took apart steering column nothing was loose and popping stopped also had battery replaced 7 months prior and no bad connections. While slowing down at traffic truck felt like it was super heavy and kept going, brake pedal got hard and could not press down. Ac went out on me twice do to bad compressor and had to repair at dealer. Transmission knocks when slowing down and hard shifts like its going to break. Also visibility is poor on vehicle when driving at night as the light are very dim. Had to buy alternate lights but still dim.
The truck will completely turn off, loss of electrical, power steering, braking - everything. First time was on highway30mph in traffic 2nd time highway going 45-50 in traffic & today in parking lot, turning in to droppoff lane an childs school. No stearing and hit the curb.
