The transmission failed on my vehicle while going highway speeds. The vehicle shifted into neutral and I was force to pull onto the shoulder. The check engine light came on and would no longer drive without the vehicle being turned off and then back on. It would still repeat this problem over the next 2 miles while I traveled to an exit to get to a safe location. The vehicle was towed to the dealership and inspected. An internal problem was found and the whole transmission has to be replace at about 79000 miles.
The truck shakes on right side, it has done this in the past and was taken into the dealer for repair it worked for a few months then it was back and not it has returned again. It is to the point that if feels unsafe to drive.
-engine gas consumption states 21 mpg highway, 17 mpg combined and 15 mpg city. -when I started using vehicle during the first weeks and months the best mpg I could geta at the highway was 18. 5 mpg with top-tier gas. -ever since I bought the vehicle, the gas mpg have gone down around 0. 5 mpg. The vehicle feels that it has to use more gas in order to perform the level of task everyday. -the motor oil pump at times moves down from the 40 mark to the 20 mark when idle at traffic light and it starts moving, it temporarily goes to the 60 mark. At other times when idle it stays in the 30 mark. -the transmission is an 8 speed automatic. It has issues shifting 1st and 2nd gear, and at times 3rd gear as well. When driving at slow speeds like in a traffic jam, mall parking, do a u turn or when you slow down at the traffic light and then turns green and you start accelerating again it feels harsh on gearing up and down. -this vehicle has the active fuel management (afm) system, it turns on even at slower speeds and you feel how the engine and transmission struggle to accelerate, go a gear up and push the vehicle with only 4 cylinders. Like in manual transmissions when you accelerate on a higher gear than the correct one, it takes forever to accelerate and properly change to 8 cylinder and establish the correct gear and ratio. -even if all 8 cylinders on it it feels like if I am running on a smaller engine. -there was a fix done to the transmission for a valve, but the vehicle still runs the same as before. -there is a knocking noise starting to build in the engine. Best mileage I can get driving the same and gas is 13 mpg combined. -the recent safety recall for the breaks is actually making the breaking worse than before. -my vehicle is 2016 GMC sierra all terrain v8 5. 3l 4wd z82 with 36,500 miles on it and is doing all this and its getting worse little at a time.
When driving I felt a slight shift between 1 and 2. That seemed pretty normal. While driving to the ocean between 50-60 mph there was not shifting, sharking or jerking. Once slowing down to 30-40 mph the rpms go extremely high to 4 or 5. Pulling and jerking the vehicle. Happening around 20-30 mph or at 40-50. The vehicle will come to a stop causing traffic disruptions and near accidents. No service or coding have been able to diagnose issue with vehicle.
The electrical system keeps throwing a code for short to ground as well as low voltage codes. The voltage gauge on the dash shows either over charging or under charging. The in dash radio and screen shut off and turns back on by itself while driving down the road. Occasionally while backing up or pulling forward the truck completely stalls. The transmission was subject to the shudder issue, we took it to king Cadillac in lake city, SC for the transmission flush. After the flush we have not felt the shudder, but instead occasionally when pulling off from a dead stop, or while crossing the very busy highway my house is on the truck looses momentum almost as if the transmission is failing to engage at all, and all of the sudden about 15 seconds later it engages and accelerates at a rapid rate. The steering is extremely loose in the tires, however the steering wheel engages after about 3/4 of an inch. I have taken it to said king Cadillac multiple times and they maintain that the steering is 100%. Although I can not let go of the steering wheel and continue straight for any length of time. I am constantly having to adjust the steering to match the pull of the vehicle to avoid changing lanes or running of the road. After 60mph the tire shake is horrible, after 70mph it is hard to keep the truck in its lane.
I've had movement in my drivers seat since the day I've owner the truck. GMC put in a shim kit to address the problem but it's still acting up. They refuse to replace or repair any further. Also my transmission has a horrible shifting problem. When it's cold out or after the first time shifting into gear after sitting a long time, the truck lags to shift into gear then all of a sudden lunges forward or backwards depending on which gear I'm in. I've almost ran through my garage door and side fence and had to slam on the brakes. GMC has looked into the issues but won't resolve them. The last repair made was to change out the transmission fluid. That had helped with the hard shifting while driving but the truck still lunges forward or backwards and lags shifting into gear. I've had to learn to deal with it but anyone else who would drive my truck could seriously hurt themselves or someone else.
Driving on the highway brakes locked up break pedal super hard to press.
When driving and the truck shifts gear in 30mph it starts to vibrate or jerk and the rpm just bounces up and down same thing happens in 40 mph and 50 mph as well I have taken it to the dealer ship in fall of 2019 and all they did was a trans fluid flush. And worked fine for a bit now the truck started to do the same thin in the begining of July 2020 and took it again to the dealer and they wanted to do the same thing they did in 2019 do the trans fluid flush. Not this time my extended warranty was not covering it because the said it was a maintenance which is not correct because gm know it was an issue and I had already done the fluch back in 2019 and the dealer didnt want to cover it ethier I would have to pay almost 500 to get it done. I dont know hat else to do.
Sometimes at certain rpm when the truck shifts it shift really hard jerking the whole truck.
Sudden jerking while traveling at low speeds. This jerking / shuttering happens while traveling forward, reverse, and coming to a stop. Hard shifting while driving. I've never owned a 4x4 before and thought this was normal when I purchased the vehicle. After reading about this it seems like a known problem for Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac. Link below for exact issues going on with my truck. Https://gmauthority. Com/blog/2019/08/TSB-seems-to-fix-8-speed-automatic-gm-transmission-problems/.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 a GMC Sierra 1500. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle started wobbling. The vehicle was taken to wallingford Buick GMC (1122 old north colony rd, wallingford, CT 06492, (203) 269-8741) where the brake pads on the front driver's side wheel were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and test driven. The technician diagnosed that the rotors needed to be resurfaced, the front brake pads needed to be changed, the transmission fluid needed to be drained, and the computer needed to be reset. The contact retrieved the vehicle and the failures recurred the following day. The dealer advised the contact to give the vehicle a few thousand miles to work out the failures and stated that the transmission was adjusting to the contact's driving habits. The vehicle was not repaired again and the failures were still present. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.
When traveling low speeds like in a parking lot first gear jerks so bad it feels like someone rear ended you. Going highway speeds between 45 to 75 you feel vibrations coming from the transmission it feels like you're going over rumble strips. I had my transmission flushed and changed it fix the vibrations but 3000 miles later the vibrations started again.
I have had issues with my GMC sierra since it was new. It has jerked and clunked when I start to go and then left off the gas. There has also been a hesitation when stepping on the guess. I have taken it to the dealer several times and was told things such "I just needed to get use to the 8 speed transmission"," the hesitation is when the truck switches from v4 to v8". And "there is nothing wrong". Now the warranty has expired and it is getting worse. It now feels like "running over a rumble strip" or like it is "missing" and "hesitating". All of these things occur when the vehicle is in motion.
My 8 speed transmission seem to wait too long to up shift. Will down shift at odd times. When is stop and go traffic around 5-15 mph the truck will lurch forward when coasting or coming to a stop. When truing on the truck and going from park to reverse there will be a loud "clunk" that can also be felt causing the truck to rock.
When driving in slow moving traffic trans mission feels very jerky and shifts hard. Also when going from park to reverse transmission will clunk very hard causing the truck to move. Truck also seems to hesitate when trying to shift in lower gears while accelerating. This has been an ongoing issue since purchasing the truck brand new from the dealership. Prior attempts for service have been explained by their technicians as being an adaptive transmission needing to learn.
Transmission shifts hard going from 1st to 2nd gear with no fix from gm. Complained to dealer they said it's normal and there's no fix for the issue. Issue also persist when going from drive to reverse, a hard shift that I've never experienced before in several previous gm products I owned or currently own. Happens every time I drive the vehicle.
Truck hesitates, jumps, and bumps when applying brakes. When stepping on brakes to stop, it bumps and jumps before it actually comes to a full stop. It seems you really have to step on the brake hard to make it come to a full stop. This is worse on low speed, below 30 mph, stop and go traffic. There were a number of instances I almost rear ended vehicles in front of me due to this problem. The truck also bumps and jumps when taking off. I think this started a few months after I got the truck brand new. It is getting progressively worse. I took it a number of times to gm service center; they did a transmission relearn, software updates, and transmission flush--truck got better for only a few hundred miles, then same problems recurred. The latest couple of times I went back to gm service, they told me nothing is wrong with my truck. It has been very frustrating dealing with this problem and gm service for the past 3 years.
2016 GMC sierra- bought used hard shifting noted immediately and shuttering on inclines, took to dealership had part replaced- fixed shuttering but not hard shifts- now it not only shifts hard but while I was trying to stop at a drive through the brakes failed- lunges forward almost hitting the car in front of us- next day I pulled into a parking spot same thing happened- brakes would not compress- stood on the brake before it finally stopped- backed up a bit to straighten up and the damn thing did it again in reverse. I'm traveling back home to arkansas from florida in a few days with my children and I'm scared to death to drive this thing. I can't get it looked at before we leave because of the weekend/ christmas break. Seriously unsafe vehicle! there should be recalls on these vehicles! I've read so many similar stories, why has this not been addressed yet? GMC should be ashamed.
Tl-the contact owns a 2016 GMC sierra while driving at various speeds the vehicle slammed and jerked into gear, when the brake pedal was applied there was a shutter and vibration detected in the transmission. The vehicle was taken to mac haik Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram 12111 katy fwy, houston, TX 77079 713) 538-2700 where diagnosed that the transmission fluid needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however the failure recurred the vehicle was taken monument Chevrolet 3940 pasadena fwy, pasadena, TX 77503 (713) 473-7601 but was not diagnosed or repaired. Were no warning lights illuminated . The manufacturer was contacted who provided case number 9-5585814814 but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 50,000. Ap.
Transmission - when driving the vehicle it does a hard shift when accelerating and decelerating. I have taken the vehicle into the dealer twice. They are saying that is a "state of the art" computer that needs to be reset!!! I am taking it back in for a 3rd time. The care is 2 years old with 31k miles.
This complaint follows the same pattern for thousands of vehicles manufactured by general motors. The specific component is the 8l90 (rpo-5mu) 8-speed transmission. The vehicle has experienced torque converter shudder since the purchase date of 06/28/2016. Numerous "attempts" via tsbs and cover-ups by general motors has failed to alleviate the common shifting, shuddering, rough shifting, lurching out of control along with appurtenant damage to adjacent components and structures within the vehicle itself. The vehicle manufacturer has attempted to forestall remedy at the expense of consumers. It has knowingly violated specific requirements for merchantability of said vehicle. If such knowledge had been in my possession prior to purchase, I would never have purchased the subject vehicle. Damage to torque converter components via polluted fluid and destructive particles caused by torque converter malfunction are situated throughout the entire structure of the named transmission itself. Valve bodies. Gears. Filters, fluids and tolerances have all been affected by the known deficiency by the stated manufacturer: general motors corporation. General motors has shown neither the desire; nor will, to effect a meaningful and reliable solution to this problem.
Please make gm resolve the issues with the 8 speed transmissions in the trucks. 2016 slt z71. I purchased the truck new. It's never shifted properly. Hesitations, clunking, jerking, shutter, hard down shifts. . . . Everytime I take it in, they say it's due for an update. The truck has had 4 updates and none of them have fixed a thing. I had it in before the 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty was up and was told it was up to date. Then last week, I took it in and was told it was "several updates behind. " (54,xxx) miles. To top it off, general motors wouldn't pay for the $400 update, which didn't fix anything at all!!! the truck jerked before we got a block from the dealership. Gm says that even though the truck is still under a factory 60,000 mile powertrain warranty, transmission updates aren't covered. The 120,000 extended warranty wouldn't cover it because they say it should be covered under the factory powertrain warranty! I absolutely love the truck other than the junk transmission in it. I don't think it's safe or much fun having a vehicle that starts to go then falls flat on its face for a few seconds before slamming into the next gear. This is a major problem with a huge number of trucks. Don't believe me? google "2016 sierra transmission issue" or anything of the sort. You'll see. I'm really not asking for much. I didn't want to put my family in a potentially unsafe vehicle. . . . . Yet here we are. Like I said, I'm not asking for much. All I want is for my truck to shift normal. To go when it needs or has to. My truck has had 4 updates and was several updates behind last time, that's roughly an update every 10,000 miles and now they're not covered? on two separate occasions, it's shifted so hard that it jarred my neck and made it sore for a few days! ive even pulled over on the side of the road thinking we were rear-ended. So has my wife. Not safe-not necessary!.
On two separate occurrences, w/ family in the vehicle, starting speed at approx. 35mph, the accelerator (gas pedal) stuck to the floor during the process of passing another vehicle during city street driving. Top speed got to approx. 55mph, w/ stop lights fast approaching. The pedal simply would not release from full throttle until after the vehicle finally came to complete stop with brakes applied, shifter to neutral position, slamming the shifter to park, and ignition was turned off! had to take immediate and decisive emergency actions during both situations! the first time it occurred, thought perhaps the rubber floor mat may have contributed to this event; however, driver side floor mat was immediately removed. Several days later, during similar operations, the accelerator (gas pedal) again stuck to the floor board in full acceleration mode w/ family in the vehicle! currently have appointment set-up at a huntsville, al. GMC dealership. This truck was purchased brand new at laura Buick in collinsville, IL. Although I realize there are other GMC customers; not sure why this huntsville, al dealership would not work me in sooner. This vehicle has approx. 49k miles and should still have warranty remaining until 68k miles. GMC service department rep. Stated, "Monday 26, February is first date available. ".
Constant vibration and or shake at speeds between 60-70 mph. This issue is commonly referred to as the "chevy shake" this issue has been existing since first purchasing this vehicle. I addressed the concern with the dealership during multiple visits for service. As this was my first full size truck, I wasn't sure what to expect regarding how the vehicle would ride at highway speeds. I was told by the service department that the vehicle was in tolerance in regards to how it rode and the constant vibration. So I excepted this as being the norm and went ahead to add some modifications to my truck. Since the initial complaint the service department has since turned over most of their staff and added people willing to address and acknowledge that my vehicle indeed has this vibration/shake issue. Due to the modifications made they will not address or attempt to correct this issue. Had I pressed the issue in the beginning and not accepted what these so called professionals had told me to be acceptable maybe I wouldn't be in this predicament. My vehicle has also been in for numerous bucket seat issues from sagging and poor seat support. Everything described here is factual as I have all the service records and history with the same GMC dealership and service department in regards to these problems. Long story short, these issues have made long distance trips almost unbearable between the constant shaking and poor seat support.
The transmission is almost banging into gear vibrating at high speeds the shifts can jerk the vehicle and cause an accident.
Periodically 3 times a week, while driving, the stabiliztrak illuminates and drivability declines, engine check light illums, the gear remains in a low gear without shifting. Turn the ignition off for a couple seconds and it clears and the engine light goes out after 25-35 miles. Sometime it doesn't reset after 3 attempts of turning off and on the ignition. The codes are p0700 a u0100 with others when dealership analyzed. Three times it was in the GMC shop and three times giving back and problem still existed. I recorded on video and gave it to the dealership as proof.
Since buying the truck new in 2016 it had a vibration , which got worse as you increased speed, at highway speed, 65-75 mph the vibration is so bad it was making me nauseous. I have taken it to the dealer several times, first balanced the tires and said everything was normal, truck still vibrating. Several more trips to the dealer with the same result.
Problems with transmission jerking, hard shifting, jumping, only have 60,000 miles on it. Took it back to dealer 3 times and they told me each time it was normal. Told them I have been driving 40 years and that was not normal. They never done anything. Now I am having more problems with it, getting worse. Now I find out there is a lot of people with same problems. GMC knows something is wrong and should take care of it.
The contact owns a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500. When the shifter was engaged, the vehicle did not register the correct gear and failed to move. When the vehicle did recognize the correct gear, it accelerated unintentionally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission was defective and parts in the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was returned to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150.
Tl- the contact owns a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at lower rates of speed, the contact experienced very abrupt up and down shifting to the extent where the vehicle would shutters uncontrollably. The failure occurs while the contact either accelerated or decelerated and they occurred without warning. The contact had vehicle serviced three times at a dealer(cavender Buick GMC north 17811 san pedro Ave, san antonio, TX 78232 210-807-6392) where they re-coded the transmission software and applied a special transmission fluid to the vehicle. The failure persisted each time after it was serviced at this dealer. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000. Jo.
Gm 8 speed transmission is full of problem. It constantly hesitates, hang gears, bucks, and poses various safety concerns. For instance if merging onto the highway the transmission will hesitate and the truck will be unresponsive to gas pedal input for a period of time sometimes up to 12 secs. This hesitation causes a safety concern when attempting to merge into traffic. Gm acknowledges these concerns but states that it is operating as designed but are working on software updates to improve transmission performance. This has been a constant issue since I purchased the truck.
-engine gas consumption state 21 mpg highway, 17 mpg combined and 15 mpg city. When I started using this vehicle during the first weeks and months the best mpg I could get at the highway is 18. 5 mpg with top tier gas such shell & chevron during the first 2 years and now costco brand. Every since I bought it, the gas mpg have gone down around 0. 5 mpg. The vehicle feels that it has to use more gas in order to perform. -the motor oil pump at times moves down from the 40 mark to the 20 when idle at traffic light and when it starts moving, it temporarily moves to the 60 mark. -the transmission is an 8 speed automatic. It has issues shifting to first gear, second gear and times 3rd gear. When driving at slow speeds like in traffic jams, mall parking lots or when you slow down at the traffic light and then turns green and you start accelerating again it feels harsh on gearing down and up, like someone rear ended your vehicle. -this truck has the active fuel management (afm) and it turns on even slower speeds and you feel how the engine and transmission struggle to really gear up and down. Like it never gears and tries to accelerate at a higher gear. Like in manual transmissions when you accelerate on a higher gear than at correct own it takes forever to reach the needed speed. -even if all 8 pistons are on it feels as if I am running on a smaller engine like a v6 or v4. -the driver car seat feels that move a little like an 1/8 of an inch. -it just feels that something is wrong with motor and transmission.
This vehicle suffers from the notorious chevy shakes that is aflicting 2014/2015/2016 gm 1500s. I returned truck one business day after buying it for shaking problems. The shaking/vibrating was felt in the steering wheel, gas pedal, and seat of your pants. They said tires were out of balance. Picked up truck to find it still did it the next time out at high way speeds 55-70 mph. 2nd trip to the dealer for shaking they said tires needed balanced and I had 1 bad tire they replaced. Took truck on another highway trip and problem was still there, shaking same as listed above. 3rd trip to dealer fror same thing, they said tire they installed as a replacement was bad? replaced tire and said truck is fixed. Took truck on highway same speeds still shakes. Vibrating/shaking steering wheel numbs your hands while driving an hour or more on freeway, shakes felt from seat make my 12 year old daughter feel like shes going to throw up if she doesnt get out of truck, wife gets headaches from it and on 2 trips of 2. 5 hrs in duration I was physically ill and had to go to bed. The shaking vibrating is like riding upon a massage chair or vibrating motel bed, its horrible. On line there are published articles easily found if you google chevy shakes and just read the complaints. Ive submitted the required 4th repair attempt to gm before I can and will lemon law mine but a much bigger preoblem is going on that isnt being looked at with these trucks. . Read more...
