I have persistent transmission problems documented on multiple dealer visits where I purchased the vehicle. The first one was after 6000 miles. A large clunk sound and vibration occurred after shifting gears in the 30 mph range. The dealer told me this was a know issue related to the transmission manufacturer lubricant conflicting with the GMC transmission fluid. They did a flush and replace and for a time period it settled down. I have 56,000 miles now and the latest complaint I made was when nearing a stop at 5-10 mph the transmission did a massive clink. I had two others in the vehicle that observed this over 20 times. I immediately scheduled a service to look at this. After 4 hours they told me nothing is wrong. Since then the transmission has a light clunk shifting at low speed so I wonder if they lied and flushed the fluid. They said no metal was in the fluid. Online websites show many posts of owners hanging this issue. I was never shown a bulletin on any reported issues and would like to see every one related to the 8 speed transmission. My standard powertain warranty has expired after 5 years. I fear the value of this vehicle is impacted by so many complaint, no action by ntsb, and questionable practices by two gm dealers that serviced my vehicle. I would like to see a recall as this isn’t just my issue. I would like to see what investigation ntsb has done on this topic. I have printed service re odds for each I have complained about the transmission and now believe the dealer was aware of the issue and gm bulletins coached them how to tell me there is no issue. The last statement made was also odd, the service advisor told me that the clink is because the transmission sometimes goes from 3rd to 1st and skips second gear. I was charged to have them look for a problem and if this a known issue to both gm and the ntsb shame on you both.
The transmission is shuddering, hard shifting, shuddering and lunging into gear. It is the 6l80 transmission also has little to no power, took it to the dealership for diagnosis and they say the transmission is bad, torque converter is also bad sending metal throughout the rest of the transmission.
I purchased the vehicle in November or December 2022. Since then I’ve had problems with my transmission. The torque converter was replaced 2 times, it’s been in the shop 5-6 times and nothing fixed under the warranty when I purchased it. Finally the dealer I purchased from said they won’t take the vehicle back and won’t spend any more money on fixing the truck. Now it has become on my dime to figure it out since I gave up trying to have a shop diagnose and fix it. The last shop said I would have to pay to have the transmission removed and possibly have the valve body replaced since the dealer I purchased it from gave the second shop one chance to get it right. The transmission downshifts hard and clunks since the first day of purchase. Makes a weird wining noise still til this day. I have spoken with the owners of the dealership and they did not seem to care about my problem.
Transmission engine light on, code p0700, p182e. Truck went into limp mode, would recognize what gear its in. Had to shut down vehicle for 10 minutes, restarted then it aloud me to drive.
Transmission needed to be replace after only 73,277 miles.
As I am driving the truck I notice that as the accelerator is pressed the truck does not respond as it should. I have taken this to a service repair shop and they have stated it is a ongoing issue with these vehicles. So I have taken it upon myself to look online and sure enough others have also states the same things.

Truck has 67,000 miles and has been in the dealer 3 times for transmission issues. First was the shutter. Then harsh jerking downshifts. They flushed transmission and filled with new fluid under warranty and after 1,000 miles light on again for transmission fluid temperature sensor. And now they want $800 to replace this issue. There was a recall on the 16 model for the same issue with the wiring. About to cut loss and file lemon law. Had the truck for less then 2 years and put 15,000 miles on it.

Cold start after vehicle sits for a while vehicle shark bites and stutters. When you try and drive vehicle before it’s been warmed up significantly. It’s a safety concern because it feels very danger and could cause an accident. Alamo at caused my truck to stall out the other day with my children in it and a large accident. Dealership is dismissed my concern and says it’s normal GMC defects that I have to deal with. I will sue GMC if I have to.
Truck has the 8 speed automatic transmission and at times makes a hard shift when pulling out from a stop. Truck currently shudders/shakes at around 1500 to 2000 rpm until the transmission goes into a lower gear. Feels like rumble strips in the road. Truck has only 32,000 miles on it.
Transmission experiencing hard shifts, especially at low speeds. Vehicle "jumps" forward with the hard shift. Took to dealer for service. Dealer indicated that GMC used the wrong transmission fluid during assembly of the vehicle. This was a known problem within GMC.
Transmission shifts extremely hard in low speed. Transmission temperature sensor is bad causing warning light to be on. Brakes fade at low speed causing abs system to growl.
I'm having issues with my transmission/torque converter on my 2017 GMC sierra slt 6. 2l which cause a heavy shutter and/or shake while driving. I have scheduled a follow up appointment for 11/22/21 after my vehicle was just in on 11/15/21. I currently have less than 57,000 miles on this vehicle. These issues create abnormal vibrations and shuttering under normal driving conditions which can adversely affect control of the vehicle. Furthermore, these issues affect acceleration and deceleration.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated and shuddered upon depression of the accelerator pedal with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was initially taken to a dealer where the dealer found no defects with the vehicle. The contact was then informed that the shuddering was normal operation. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic and the mechanic discovered a defect with the bell housing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.
Within a couple of days after purchasing the vehicle new I noticed a vibration or shudder when the transmission shifted. Also, the truck would slam into gear almost like being hit in the back end, and on a few occasions while driving on the highway the truck would just downshift by itself thereby causing the engine rpm's to rev above 5,000. It has been to the dealer four times, transmission has been re-calibrated, the new and improved fluid flush and these problems still exist. The truck has just under 60k miles and has started downshifting on a regular basis causing the engine to rev. How long is that going to last before the engine blows or causes permanent damage?.
Gm has known issues, which I'm sure the NHTSA is aware of. This involves transmission in 2015-2019 model trucks, both GMC and Chevrolet, among other gm vehicles. In my research there have been no less than 13 TSB's issues by gm trying to rectify these issues. The latest TSB states that a new blend of transmission fluid is the fix. In my instance the transmission started shifting hard with less than 30k miles. Took to dealership and they reprogrammed the transmission control module. Fixed the issue for a while but then started back after about 10k miles. In Feb. 2020 with 60k miles a transmission temperature sensor failed on the transmission. I took it in to replace sensor and as a result they had to change the fluid at which time they told me they replaced it with the new recommended fluid. Now at 94k miles it has started producing the hard shuddering at certain speeds. This is the main problem the fluid change is supposed to fix. Well guess what. It does fix it. I'm now scheduled to take it back in on Monday 8-9-21 to have the torque converter replaced. The company I work for has about 12 of these model GMC trucks and 7 of them have had to go back in to fix this same issue. Some of them multiple times. I'm out of warranty and these repairs are not cheap. The biggest safety issue is the tranny could fail at any point going down the road and leave me with no drivetrain and potentially get hit. In my 40 years of driving and owning 20 vehicles between me, my wife and 3 kids I have never had a tranny fail. This is the first and gm has know about this issue for years. They need to be made to fix these issues and replace all transmission that are having issues and repay me the money I've already paid and the money I'll have to pay next week. This is ridiculous that NHTSA has not gotten involved enough to force gm to correct this. You need to force the hand of gm to make this right. You know of the problems, now get it fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Extreme hard shift from 1 to 2 regardless of power input. Also, sputtering after mantiaining speed (rpms jumping up and down, you can feel the power input increase or decrease). This also happens using cruise control. After researching, this is a major complaint on this vehicle.
I was driving 50mph and was behind a semi as I started to pass him I noticed an oncoming car and decided there wasnt enough time to pass so I started to push the brake pedal to slow down and get back behind the semi and the brakes locked up which produced an uncontrollable spin in which I did a 180 degree spin and ended up going into the ditch backwards and tipped over on my side no airbags deployed either.
My transmission shifts very hard from 1st gear to 2and and then from 2and gear to 1st gear at which time I'm usually stopping and it seems to push the truck forward a bit. I've taken it to pekin IL dealership and green Chevrolet in peoria IL and neither one says there is anything wrong.
While watching the economy mileage window I noticed in the lower right side showing v6 and v4 switching back and forth. As they were switching, I noticed the engine vibrating while showing the v4 in the window. It did not vibrate while showing the v6 in the window. It did this while I was driving 65 mph(on cruise) on the expressway. I did not notice it during driving in start-stop slower traffic. This has been happening before, but did not figure out the problem until now.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while accelerating at 85 mph, the vehicle independently decelerated to 70 mph without warning. The contact stated that the throttle no longer operated as needed. The contact had taken the vehicle to faulkner Buick GMC trevose (4427 e street rd, feasterville-trevose, PA 19053) on two occasions however, the mechanics were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and informed the contact that they had never heard of such a failure. The contact then spoke to an independent mechanic who informed him that the defect may be linked to a speed sensor and a computer malfunction. The contact then took the vehicle to another independent mechanic who reprogrammed the computer software. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 19,906.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle started losing motive power. The accelerator pedal was depressed and the engine revved; however, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over, and after several attempts, the vehicle restarted. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to a local dealer and failed to exceed 10 mph. The dealer was able to diagnose the vehicle and determined that the torque converter had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle started vibrating and stalled. The contact stated that again, there were no warning lights. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drove the vehicle back to the same dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel injectors had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the fuel injectors failed, and the contact had taken the vehicle to a different dealer. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but was difficult to depress. The contact allowed the vehicle to coast and was able to pull off the road. The contact slowed down to approximately 2 mph and was able to use the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was turned off and restarted to reset the braking functionality. The contact was out of town and took the vehicle to a dealer to be diagnosed and repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.
Almost collided with other cars in parking lot because the brakes weren't working right also transmission shimmies between 50 and 60 mph.
The truck loose power when key is turned off and then come back on after a few minutes also stabilatrack system is shutting off truck once on the highway at 70 mph engine runs ruff and uses oil in less than 5000 miles has use at least 3 quarts the dod system make truck run extremely bad engine has miss in it also it is becoming unsafe to drive at times and brake pedal is very hard to push.
My truck braking system is going to the floor board of my truck. Making very hard for me to stop. They call themselves fixing it but the same problem is back. Really tired of this problem and other spend 1000. 00 on springs and the vehicle was only a 1 1/2 old was told the warranty on cover it if they were broken a lie the dealership told me.
Transmission has been skipping since 35000 miles, it does it when driving more than 35 mph.
The same issue as gm service bulletin pi1513f (radiator leak) has happened on my 2017 GMC sierra. This service bulletin currently covers 2014 - 2016 models and needs to be extended to cover 2017 models (and possibly 2018). This issue is a radiator that leaks on the passenger or drivers side on the wall between the cooling fins and the end of the radiator.
The lifters failed on one side and the dealer replaced only that side under warranty. I paid over 64k for this veh and I am scared the other side will fail while driving.
Vehicle has hard shift between first and second gear accelerating and deceleration. I noticed it after about a week of driving it after purchase.
. The engine mounted mechanical vacuum pump may decrease over time decreasing the amount of vacuum/ power brake assist, causing vehicle not to stop. Same as my 2016 GMC. I had to also have the ( evap control valve replaced). Transmission surges and on the down shift its knocking coming tyo a stop. . In my rear ending a parked vehicle because of the brakes pulsating and not stoping scared me. . Dealership. . Dealership . No.
The truck lurches forward as if the accelerator is being depressed while coming to a stop obviously while depressing the brake. This causes dangerous situations every day in traffic. I have not found any solutions to the problem online. Reprogramming computer and replacing other speed control modules has not solve the problem for other drivers.
