1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

I loose brake pedal at low speeds seen gm has recall for vacuum pump but shows mine not in recall.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2025

I was test driving this 2017 Sierra 1500 slt and experienced issues while braking. Issues with brakes as the vacuum level drops the brake assist decreases which meant I had to use excessive force to get the vehicle to stop. No warning light, nothing to tell me there is a low pressure brake. This could result in a fatality if a small animal or child walks/runs in front of the truck while truck is moving forward or backwards at low speeds. The dealer doesn’t acknowledge any recall on this vehicle because it isn’t noted as such with gm. I worry that all of the other recalls (4 others) may be an issue too, which include frontal airbags not deploying during an accident, faulty wheel sensor causes opposite wheel to engage and cause the vehicle to pull to one side, fuel leak, and child seat anchoring restraint instructions not included in the owners manual.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2025

2017 GMC sierra almost hit a parked car in the store parking lot. Pedal was hard push down . Also when moving truck around in my yard at times the pedal is hard other times sounds like there is air in the lines. Truck has all new brakes and rotors all the way around. I pull a camper and side x side at times so this is scary.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2025

My 2017 GMC sierra brakes started acting up a slow speed it would seem like there were no brakes or pedal would push very hard. I pulled into a parking space at the store and it was like I had no brakes had to push pedal very hard and thank god there wasn’t a car in front of me because I would have hit it. The truck has new front and back brakes and rotors put. The truck was throwing some codes and 3 out of the 4 codes pointed to faulty vacume pump. I pull a camper and sometimes a side x side so this is very concerning and I hoping to get this expense covered by recall like all the other models with the same issues. I really don’t know why my truck isn’t being recalled. This has been a good truck for me no complaints tell this.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2025

I was slowing down in a parking lot to park. I applied the brake and the pedal was very stiff and the vehicle wound not stop. I finally stood on the pedal and it acted as though the antilock activated and started shuttering. It finally stopped without damage. A warning of service brake assist displayed on the dash. This began to happen about 3 months ago intermittently, but now is a more frequent action. I have not taken it to the dealer and thought of replacing the brake vacuum pump but don't know what to do. Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a great day! [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2025

The vehicle has no power assist when at low rpms and is a hazard that may cause an accident.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2024

The affected vehicle is a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 crew cab truck with less than 34k miles. While driving the vehicle today the brakes became very hard, like a loss of power brakes. Felt like there was a loss of vacumn. At slow speed in reverse the brakes "shuddered" when applied. Have not taken it to a dealer as it just happened while traveling. Cheched for information for symptoms online and found gm had initiated a recall for this issue so I checked the nhts web site to see it my vehicle had a recall. System indicated 0 unrepaired recalls for my vehicle. So wanted to report the issue.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2024

The vehicle while driving just rapidly steers to one side out of nowhere and some of the times even breaks.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2024

My vehicle has on two separate occasions experienced a failure where the steering locks up, the engine shuts down, and the dash displays warnings about stabilitrac and trailer wiring. The vehicle has had random electrical glitches for some time, but they have escalated to a safety issue. In doing research, my issues sound very similar to those issues which resulted in a recall to earlier vehicles of the same generation, on report 17v-414. Googling the issue also points to insufficient grounding at the battery and / or the g218 grounding connection.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2024

At low speeds I have no brakes.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2024

The incident occurred on Friday, January 26, 2024. My vehicle has 54,571 miles on it. The power brake assist function failed. I was backing into a parking space at a local fast food chain and experienced near brake failure. I had to stand, nearly full body weight pressure, on the brake pedal to get my truck to stop at very slow speed. I, again, backed a short distance of a couple of feet at the most and experienced the same issue when I tried to stop. I placed the vehicle in park and turned the engine and ignition key off, thinking the system possibly needed to reset. I started the truck and drove forward, very slowly, to another parking space and applied the brakes. I experienced near total brake failure again. I had my truck into brogden GMC in olathe, kansas on September 23, 2019, for general maintenance and a “brake pressure recall. ” I had experienced a slight brake pressure issue on a couple of occasions prior to the recall. After the recall service was performed I did not experience a braking concern for some time. I did experience “soft braking” a couple of times after the recall was performed and attributed it worn brakes. On may 24, 2023, at 50,596 miles, I upgraded my brakes by installing a power stop z36 brake kit with slotted rotors and ceramic pads. I have not had a repeated experience of soft braking or brake failure until the Friday, January 26, 2024 incident that I am currently reporting. It appears to me that the earlier recall did not completely address the brake failure issue with my 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 pick-up.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2024

When I hit the brakes it has no stopping power, hard to push brake pedal and when sitting at a complete stop it has been known to start going even though I have foot on brake.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2024

The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while coming to a stop at slow speeds, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the brake pedal felt spongey, causing the braking distance to become extended. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact learned of NHTSA campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and linked the failure to the recall. The dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2023

It takes quite the amount of force to stop the vehicle brake pedal started feeling spongy and seems like it doesn’t have enough pressure constantly I have no brake fluid leaks or air in my lines it all comes down to the brake booster it seems like and I know a few vehicles had this problem but mine says it wasn’t but I believe it has been affected.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2023

Service trailer brake system. This has happened in the past 3 times, in which the local GMC dealership has made me pay for new batteries and other fuel system issues. Dealership stated that this shows up because of a bad battery.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2023

At low speeds the brake pedal gets hard and it feels like the antilock brake system is activating, I believe this is the issue with the brake booster vacuum pump. Gm isn't calling this a safety issue.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2023

Service trailer brake system defaulting and is taking more time to stop my 2017 GMC sierra truck.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2023

Today August 22, 2023 at 2:30pm, just about to leave work home when I received a message on my dash board telling/showing me "service trailer brake system". And that sign kept coming on every second all the way home from work, couldn't heard nothing else that us going on inside the car like my phone, radio, turn sign, etc. .

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2023

1st incident - tried to park turned in and steering went wild stability control light came on & others then truck shut down. 2nd incident 2 days later- tried to turn off street (with grandkids in car) same thing steering about snapped my wrists off- check engine light came on and others then truck off this was all in a matter of seconds. I turned it on the info system on dash told me to roll down and then roll up window. Husband when driving noticed barking issues - really having to pump brakes (week before) we looked up recalls they are there for both issues for my year make but I have a bigger engine that the recall states so I am not covered yet it is doing all that same stuff for the recall which my husband put it what the truck was doing and found recalls just not for our engine size- this truck is not safe to drive as when you turn it will shut off immediately. And you lose all steering etc I am afraid to drive this truck, especially as we haul our grandkids and travel to idaho on very high curvy roads again not safe your componets it wants me to check off wonlt let me click on engine & and other.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2023

The brake line in the middle of the car broke because it's rusty, and all brake fluid is out, vehicle not braking.

21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2023

2017 GMC sierra k1500 with 59,xxx miles. Recently noted braking issues with vehicle in parking lots or at slower speeds. The brakes are difficult to engage. I do not notice this issue when driving at higher speeds. On 3/27/23, I backed the vehicle out of my driveway and had a near miss collision as it was very difficult to engage the brakes and stop the vehicle. After the near miss, the brakes, calipers, and rotors were inspected and all were in good working condition. I contacted the dealership where the vehicle was purchased. The representative from the dealership informed me that this braking issue was addressed as a previous recall for n192268490 zpsr (product safety recall) on 5/24/21. On 5/24/21, I took the truck into the dealership for another issue and this recall was addressed at the same time. I was not having any issues with the brakes at that time. The representative informed me that the recall was closed on the truck, and they now charge $200/hr if I want to bring the vehicle in for service. The current braking issues appear directly related to the reported braking recall issue that was reportedly repaired on 5/24/21. The vehicle is not safe to drive and would appreciate assistance from the NHTSA to safely resolve the issue.

22 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2023

There has been a recall on the assisted braking pump. My truck is not on that recall as of now. But I am having the same braking trouble at slow speeds. Is there any way the company will fix this issue.

23 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2023

Brakes intermittently quit working at slow speeds. Sometimes while pushing on the brake pedal, the brakes don't respond, I have to increase the force placed on brake pedal. There is also a pulsating sensation at the pedal like the abs is being applied, even though I am traveling at slow speeds, and it takes much longer to stop the vehicle. There are no warning lights that come on and there is nothing on the message center stating there is an issue. Has happened multiple time, usually in a parking lot, or in stop and go traffic. Also has happened when vehicle is in reverse. Have never had the issue at highway speeds.

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2023

Trailer brake system fault requiring service. Seems like its an issue a lot with chevy and GMC trucks.

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2023

Brakes do not work a low speeds such as in parking area very hard to press brake pedal to stop vehicle.

26 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2023

While parking I was backing up to straighten the truck in the space. When I went to stop I noticed that "normal" pedal pressure was not stopping the truck and I could tell vacuum was not available to boost the brakes, causing me to have to "stand on the pedal", almost causing me to hit the car behind me. I purchased the truck used four months ago and when checking recalls the NHTSA says none are open so I assume it has been addressed but didn't fix the issue obviously.

27 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2023

The trailer brake system is displaying a warning. The truck has less than 50,000 miles and the tow option has never been used. I am told that it would be risky to use it without repair. This is a safety issue that should be a recall. I have checked and there are thousands with the same issue and it has gone on for years without being addressed by gm or NHTSA. It's time to step up and take care of this situation. There is no telling how many have been injured or killed by this. If nothing is done I will approach someone in the media.

28 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2023

Low speed brake assist failure in traffic. . Caused me to bump the person in front of me. . . Then a few days later I got the "service brake assist " on my dash. . Then my GMC app sent me a service soon warning. . . 2017 GMC sierra denali at 62500 miles.

I was pulling in to a parking spot and pressed the brakes and the truck didn’t stop and I hit the sign. When I looked at the dash there was a “service brake assist “ warning on.

30 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2023

I am experiencing hard brake pedal and/or brake fade when attempting to apply the brakes. Their is a recall for this problem on other models, however my truck model year is not included for some reason. This has occurred on multiple occasions and has nearly caused an accident on those occasions. My truck also began to roll out of a parking spot and I had extremely hard brake pressure but no response from the brakes.

31 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2022

Back up sensors not working. Truck also not having a VIN number even though it was bought from the the chevy dealership. Also was told the electrical system is not working properly.

32 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2022

When pressing the brakes a few time at a low speed iose brake power. There is already a recall out for this model but not my VIN. This is my recall issue brake assist decreased due to vacuum loss.

33 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2022

The service message appeared on the display after backing up "service brake assist" I searched this issue and found over 65 complaints for this vehicle year/make /model. I am at work and fear driving home as this issue has resulted in brake failure on some of the complaints noted. I have not contacted anyone yet, I wanted a recall notice as this is a safety issue and we cannot afford any costly vehicle repairs.

34 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2022

I purchased my vehicle in January 2022. On 11/18/22 I captured a photo across my dash stating that the trailer brake system needed to be serviced (photo attached) . This was the second time this message appeared within days. The vehicle continued to beep and flash for a long period of time clearing out my dash screen making it unsafe to drive. The beeping noise startled me, almost causing an accident on the freeway. I did not know what the warning meant as I wasn't towing a trailer. I wasn't towing anything and could not turn off the beeping sound or the flashing screen, in spite of hitting the dismiss button. I don't know why the message continued to go on and assuming there is an electrical shortage somewhere with the wiring. This needs to be recalled and fixed as it is a manufacturer issue. I do not have any aftermarket parts installed in this vehicle. This same alert message appeared again yesterday 12/5/22 as I was driving back from the airport. It continued for almost 2 hours while on the freeway and again I was not pulling or towing anything. I pulled over, checked my tailgate, turned off the vehicle and turned it back on and the message continued until I got home. It is very alarming and annoying and scared me. This is a big safety hazard and almost caused an accident again as the alert is very loud and flashes across, clearing out your screen, causing you to take your eyes off traffic looking ahead. This time, I was traveling in heavy traffic. Please investigate this further. Thank you.

35 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2022

Hi I purchased this used 2017 GMC sierra denali on October of 2021 it’s been just only one year and while on the road with my trailer attached , I suddenly got a pop up on my display saying “service trailer brake system “ which caused me to be distracted with the chime and the warning being displayed repeatedly and overall left me with no power at all to my trailer brakes I would like to have this recalled and fixed at little to no cost due to the fact of the cheap and unsafe parts that are installed on these types of trucks by GMC.
