While driving on the road the vehicle started sputtering and stalled! we pulled to the side of the road and tried to start the car but it rolled and would not start. We called a a mechanic who had it towed and found out that the fuel pump and the fuel control board had failed. Both have been replaced and the truck seems to be working again. Heard several other persons had this issue with their gcm sierra elevation so we wanted to report since there is currently no recall. Luckily the traffic was not going that fast or we could have had an accident and been seriously injured.
The failure involved the engine (6. 2l l87 v8), specifically suspected internal components such as the crankshaft and/or connecting rods, as identified in a current recall. The vehicle is currently located at dennis gm in corner brook, newfoundland and is available for inspection. On March 9, while driving the vehicle normally on a main highway, the engine suddenly lost all power without warning. The accelerator became completely unresponsive and the vehicle rolled to a stop in the middle of a main highway. The engine would not restart. Due to the electronic gear selector, the vehicle could not be shifted into neutral, leaving both the truck and trailer immobilized in a live traffic lane. This created a serious safety risk to myself and other motorists, especially as I was in an area without cellular service and could not immediately call for assistance. The problem has not yet been formally diagnosed, as the vehicle remains at the dealership awaiting inspection. However, the symptoms are consistent with known failures described in the recall affecting these engines. The vehicle had previously undergone recall inspection on September 1, 2025 and was cleared at that time. The vehicle has been inspected previously by an authorized gm dealer as part of the recall process, but no defect was identified. It has since been towed to dennis gm following the failure and is pending further inspection. No police or insurance inspections have been conducted. There were no warning lights, messages, or prior symptoms before the failure. The engine failure was sudden and without any indication of an issue beforehand.
The vehicle is subject to safety recall n252494001 (NHTSA campaign 25v-274) due to manufacturing defects in the engine crankshaft and connecting rod bearings. • component/system failed: the 6. 2l v8 (l87) engine crankshaft and connecting rod assembly. The engine is available for inspection upon request. • safety risk: the defect can cause catastrophic engine damage and sudden loss of propulsion while driving, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. • dealer/manufacturer confirmation: the problem was confirmed via the issuance of safety recall n252494001. A dealership inspection was performed previously as part of the recall. • warning signs/symptoms: common symptoms include engine knocking, check engine lights, and hesitation before sudden failure. The issue with the remedy: federal law (49 u. S. C. § 30120) requires manufacturers to remedy safety defects "without charge". As a permanent safety remedy for this defect, gm has mandated a switch from 0w-20 to 0w-40 (dexosr) oil for the life of the engine to prevent bearing failure. However, the dealership and manufacturer are refusing to provide this mandated safety spec change without an ongoing $85 surcharge per oil change. While they performed the initial "inspection" oil change for free, they are now using the recall-mandated spec change to create a financial burden on the consumer. Because 0w-40 is now the mandatory factory requirement to prevent the safety defect, charging a premium for it constitutes a failure to provide the recall remedy "without charge. " general motors refuses to offset this cost, effectively penalizing the owner for a manufacturer safety defect. The dealership is also failing to honor my platinum wrap warranty and gm prepaid service contract to perform the continued oil changes without additional charges.
Bought truck 0n 12/26/2025 from lot in michigan had it transported to missouri. First time I drive it check engine comes on and goes into "limp mode". Had it towed to gm dealer and they say it was the high pressure fuel pump. Got it back and check engine light comes back on then goes off then back on again. Not happy at all!!!.
On November 16, while driving on the highway, my GMC vehicle suddenly lost engine power without warning. I was forced to stop in traffic, creating a dangerous situation and putting my life at risk. The vehicle required towing and has remained at the dealership since that date. The dealership determined that the engine requires replacement. Repairs have been significantly delayed, including an incorrectly ordered replacement engine, and the vehicle remains out of service more than two months later. This defect caused a sudden loss of power while driving and presents a serious safety concern. After the incident, I contacted the dealership immediately. Diagnostic appointments were scheduled and then canceled by the dealership twice, which delayed inspection and repair. I was only able to leave the vehicle at the dealership on December 12 due to these delays.
My truck went into "limp" mode and had very little power. It was towed to the dealership where they diagnosed the issue as a bad solenoid causing the engine misfires. The solenoid was replaced, but the issue was not fixed. Now the dealership is stating the engine has bent lifters and the repairs will not be covered under the ongoing massive engine recall. The vehicle had the pico test on 9/17 and it "passed", but less than 3k miles later and the engine failed. This is a clear safety issue and well known by NHTSA and gm. Now I'm negotiating with the dealership to cover repairs and my truck has been gone nearly a month.
My truck is under the national recall from GMC for the 6. 2l engine problems. I even received the recall notice from GMC stating this. This truck has been in and out of the shop for engine problems things I took delivery of it in 2022. The latest was in April of 2025 and while it was in the repair service at the dealership, the national recall came out. During that time the dealership tried to tell me the problem was with my exhaust system so I was not covered under the recall. I knew they were not being truthful so I refused to take possession of the truck as I new it had all the symptoms that GMC was describing in my recall notice. My truck sat at the dealership for almost 5 months and last week they force me to take possession of my truck my taking back my "loaner vehicle". They stated "my truck passed the required inspection", which I knew they were being dishonest, but was forced to take the truck back anyway. Three days after taking possession I was on the interstate doing 60 mph and the engine totally seized up and almost caused an accident from the vehicles behind me running into me because of the sudden decrease in speed. I was able to safely pull over and had to get towed back to the dealership. This incident is beyond just a engine recall now because they new my truck was not safe to drive and forced me to take back my truck. Im just thankful I was driving and not my wife, or having my two grandchildren in the truck with me. To make mtters worse in this scenerio, this truck is actually my replacement truck because my 2021 truck had to be taken back per the lemon law in 2022, so this will now be truck #2 being lemon law and my original truck loan isnt even paid off. I have all of the various engine repair paperwork on this truck dating back to 2022.
My daughter and I drove to town to run some errands, we live twenty-three minutes away and take the freeway. Speed limit on that specific section of the freeway (i80) is 80mph. As I was taking the on-ramp to enter traffic, my GMC started shifted very hard and losing power. The vehicle was sputtering and making strange sounds. I was unable to exceed 60mph due to excessive vibrations/shaking the vehicle. Steering was starting to be difficult at the same time I noticed oil pressure gauge slowly dropping on instrument panel below 25psi. I had to pull over immediately. Oil pressure remained lower than normal, verified oil was filled to manufactures specifications (changed June 30, 2025). Returned the vehicle to my place of residence as safe and slow as I possibly could and parked it as it is a major safety concern.
Unloaded my denali at huge loss with 30,000 miles because gm wouldn’t fix recall after many times in shop, broke down on freeway, and need to travel to canada on business. Canada won’t allow vehicles with open safety recalls to enter country even though im pretty sure engine was made in canada. Gm corporate office told me there’s nothing they can do. While in shop for 4 days of testing I watched vehicle on app, never started, moved, just put out back for 4 days then told absolutely nothing. Just wanted fair trade in for diesel. Truck looked identical to brand new on lot, 10/10 except engine recall. Gm promised to reimburse rental fees when broke down a week or so, submitted documents to gm, nothing recieved. Bought ram instead for obvious reasons. Is there a lemon law, class action, agency etc that can help compensate for losses? the public should be warned!.
Truck was traveling through atlanta when engine shut off and was not responsive. Was able to get truck off the interstate (i285 ramp to i75). Truck would not turn over. Pushed the onstar button, they stated they couldn't diagnose the truck. They called a wrecker and got truck to a local GMC dealer(capitol GMC). Truck was approx. 90 mile away from home. Dealer called on Monday 4/21 and stated that the engine was locked up and would need a new engine.
While I was driving on highway, engine shut down and wouldn't restart. I needed to be towed.
Smelled fuel coming from truck. Took it to local GMC dealer and they found two lines rubbed together causing fuel line to corrode.
Truck has had multiple "service emmision system" errors which can leave the driver stranded and left in traffic as the truck goes into limp mode and won't maintain speed with traffic flow. There are electrical glitches and issues with the circuits and heating elements themselves and in the pump. . . As soon as there is an error in the system. . . Which has happened 3 times now in 104k miles (~80, 103k and 104k). . . The truck is rendered useless and stuck in traffic. Emmisions system needs to be covered for the life of the vehicle if it is going to have non stop issues.
Driving 70 mph on highway and the engine shut off. Dash says shift to park to restart. Pulled over and put the vehicle in park and pressed engine start. Vehicle did not start back up. (no crank no start) vehicle locked in park and wont shift. Vehicle was towed to my house. Replaced battery bus bar and vehicle started back up. Test drove and shut off again in my driveway. Will not restart. No engine light on. 124k miles on it. No warning of this happening. Vehicle randomly will shut off. Sometimes it turns on. Been parked since January in my garage for safety concerns until I learn of a repair.
“faulty fuel pump driver module” part not available for inspection. Repaired at dealership and they kept the part. While driving 75 mph on the interstate during high traffic time my GMC sierra 3. 0 diesel truck engine shut completely down, not just once but on several occasions putting myself and three other in a life safety situation due to the traffic around us at the time. I had to navigate the truck through traffic and off the road. Once there the vehicle was turned off allowed to sit for a few minutes and restarted. The vehicle would restart and we continued only to have this scenario repeated again several times. Faulty fuel module was diagnosed by mechanic at dealership and replaced. Part was not inspected by no one to my knowledge except the mechanic. There was no prior warnings before this incident happened. After the incident the engine light came on with a message that stated check esc.
Engine catastrophic failure while under extended warranty. Engine failed in February of 24 however I had told dealership I was having troubles with engine and shifting also tires from 1st 11000 miles it also kept reduce power on me and basically shut down 3 times in middle of hwy. The 6. 2 engine locked up on the mechanic who was test driving it. Took 3 months.
There is an occasional burning rubber smell(weekly and daily) coming into the cabin of the truck from the duramax engine/exhaust. The dealer was notified and they informed me from their bulletins on the matter, that they believe it is from a "wax" on the vehicle exhaust system when heated up. They informed me that their is no remedy or fix at this time. The smell and air quality that me and my family are breathing I believe is unhealthy and possibly toxic. I would like the gm to replace these components causing the issue.
