1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2026

Was driving down the road at 35 mph and the truck started to shake and the the transmission shifted really hard check engine light came on. Pulled over truck wouldn’t go into reverse and wouldn’t shift correctly. Had my truck towed home called the dealership they said I will need to have it towed in. Several days later the check engine light was off I took the truck around the block it was running okay. Drove it the next day it did the same thing shook really bad shifted hard and wouldn’t shift correctly my go I took reverse. Had it towed to the dealership. The dealership said it was the same problem they are having on other trucks with this same transmission truck is out of warranty and gm will not cover the cost to fix it.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2026

On November 20, 2025, my 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 at4 equipped with the 3. 0l duramax diesel engine began experiencing intermittent engine overheating conditions. Concerned about a potential safety issue, I contacted a GMC dealership and was advised that because no diagnostic trouble codes were present, there was nothing to diagnose or repair and that I should continue driving the vehicle. Over the following months, the overheating condition continued intermittently. On may 24, 2026, while driving on the highway, the vehicle suddenly overheated, displayed fault code p1098, and entered reduced power ("limp mode"). The vehicle lost normal performance and acceleration while traveling in traffic. This created a significant safety hazard because the vehicle was unable to maintain normal highway speeds, increasing the risk of a rear-end collision or other traffic accident. The loss of power occurred while driving and without sufficient warning, leaving the vehicle unable to safely perform as expected in highway traffic. After researching this issue, I found numerous reports from other GMC and Chevrolet owners describing similar overheating, coolant control valve, thermal management system, and p1098-related failures. Many owners report symptoms involving engine overheating, reduced engine power, and limp mode operation while driving. I am concerned that this may indicate a broader defect involving the vehicle's cooling system and thermal management components. The vehicle exhibited overheating symptoms for approximately six months before the final failure occurred. Additionally, I understand that certain gm vehicles have been subject to service actions involving coolant control valves and thermal management system components. Given the similarity of symptoms, I am concerned that the overheating condition reported in November 2025 may be related to the same type of failure mechanism, yet my vehicle has not been included in any recall or special coverage program.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2026

The transmission on the vehicle failed, it is currently sitting at a GMC dealership awaiting repair. However the valve body is on back order and there is no time table for repair to occur. My family and my safety was put at risk not knowing that the 10 speed transmission could result in rear tire lockup while on the highway, also the inability to put the truck in reverse to back away from any potential hazard. The problem was confirmed by GMC of attleboro mass. The vehicle was inspected by technicians at said dealership. There were no prior warnings, however the truck did feel hesitant to shift on the highway a week or two prior to failure.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2026

Please append these work orders to this complaint number and VIN complaint: number xxx VIN: [xxx] three repair orders from beck & masten GMC south attached. Thank you!!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2026

2022 limited GMC sierra at4 1500 motor seized on highway with loss of propulsions on highway while towing an empty horse trailer. Truck had 64,000 miles. While driving it had lack of power and then flashed on dash to shift neutral and press start/stop button. Coasted to a stop on the side of the highway and shut truck off at which point it would not turn back on. Officer stopped to check as complaints about a truck partially on the side of the road. Had someone come to assist and try to diagnose. Had to tow truck off highway with trailer while officer followed behind with lights. Dropped truck off in empty lot unhooked trailer and left truck to be towed to dealer the next day. Dealership confirmed that day engine had failed under the l87 6. 2l v8 motor recall. Gave approx estimate of two weeks to fix. Currently at day 38 with no fix completed yet. Gm and dealer have both given run around blaming each other for the delay in providing a comperable "like" vehicle that can supplement towing needs broken truck was used for.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2026

Engine failed at high speeds on interstate. When my truck shut off the steering and braking system went out and getting to shoulder of interstate was difficult with others around me. Express lanes were limited on emergency shoulder therefore my truck was partially on the high speed driving lane. 911 was called out to block freeway lane. Check engine light blinked right when truck shut down.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2026

4/02/26 truck bug jumped hard and shifted down causing me to fishtail and almost hit a car. Scared the crap out of me and the driver of the other car. Low power mode. 20 mph. No reverse. Towed to dealership. Diagnosis valve body spacer. This is our first GMC. Barely had it over a year. 78k miles. No warning lamps prior to failure.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2026

The contact owns a 2022 GMC sierra denali 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 73 mph the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over safely. The driver was unaware of any warning lights being illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was not available.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2026

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated upon shifting to park(p) and attempting to turn off the vehicle, the message "shift to park" was displayed. The contact waited and attempted to park and turn off the vehicle again, and the vehicle responded after several attempts. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the shifter assembly needed to be replaced due to internal short to the solenoid not allowing the vehicle to detect that it was in park(p). The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint filed. The contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2026

Motor was replaced at 70000 miles it blew rear main on the technician. Now 30000 miles later saying it needs valve body its been in shop 5 weeks now and no eta on parts. Also the onstar module went out or never worked after engine replaced. The truck has locked up 4 times before the engine was replaced once at 11000 miles. Had hard shifting issues from new dealership kept saying it just needed an update or tuned everytime until 100000 miles warranty was up. On my truck all the extras were were installed when they arrived. Heated and cooled seats. Heated steering wheel, park assist and something else however the truck was already out of manufacturers warranty before the 1st item installed at 50000 miles over a year after I had purchased. Everytime something was put on something else failed. And the grille started peeling immediately after I purchased vehicle and is almost completely gone.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2026

On 2/23/26 my GMC Sierra 1500 at4 3. 0l inline-6 turbo-diesel, it auto stopped (which I will never keep on again) on an incline and would not start back up or shift gears and rolled a few feet. I had to turn it off and restart it, then the engine light came on and a notification about conditions not favorable for shifting? my app said service was needed for engine/transmission issue. I took it to the dealership and it now has to have the transmission control valve body assembly replaced. I did not receive a recall notice for my truck but, it seems to be the same issue that the recall was for on gm vehicles of the same time period. Of course the dealership said they have no loaner vehicles and I'm supposed to be without my truck for approx. A week and a half at this point. I am disappointed with GMC and the quality that I am paying $70k for. I had a 07' silverado 2500 I purchased new and drove it for almost 15yrs. W/ no issues. Hopefully this is a good fix and it'll last but, from what I've seen, gm is not the quality it used to be. This is on top of being in the shop for a coolant control valve issue that wasn't recalled either but, a known issue on the pickups so beware. I did call GMC and they will reimburse up to $44 a day on a rental (has to be a gm vehicle btw) during this fiasco of course afterwards and with a bunch of paperwork but, I have to have a vehicle, in TX nothing is close by. Good luck everyone!.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2026

This is separate for VIN 3gtuudel5ng657492 I had to change dealerships because beck & masten south / GMC would not provide me with a loaner after being told I was on the list and I was next in line. I waited a month and drove to them and spoke with the girl who oversaw loaners. I explained I had severe safety issues such as front-end wobble which is related to transmission issues. And the oil consumption issue and oil light. Once again, I was re-assured the loaner program was indeed still active and I would be put on priority. Again to no avail I had wasted too much time with beck & masten. After months of this I found out I did not have to take it to the dealer I bought it from. So, I took it to monument Chevrolet. I explained my concerns related to the front-end wobble which was very intermittent. And the oil consumption issue which I was very concerned with due to the year model and mileage of the truck. Also, the 75,000. 00 price tag was really has me extremely upset. . . Monument Chevrolet treated me well. I had actually brought it in and called about the steering which was greatly affected by the severe front end wobble more than one time. I was told at first the oil consumption was pretty normal. Until I told them how much I had to add between changes. I have attached two work orders to this complaint. These work orders show what was done at 18017 miles and 18323 miles. The later work order was when the pico test was done. Also, an oil consumption test was started once I picked the truck up. After I had driven it for 2077 miles and was bringing the vehicle back to monument Chevrolet, as instructed for the oil consumption results, when a loud squeeling, then hard knock, power loss and I pulled over. I called monument and was instructed if I could get it to start and bring it. I drove it to them while knocking and rough running. It has been in the shop for over 2 months for an engine replacement. 2077 miles after recall work! refer complaint 11729716.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2026

I was driving my 2022 GMC sierra with the 6. 2 engine 10 speed transmission and I was at at a red light, the light turned green and I went to go and I could feel my rear wheels lock up and then it released went into limp mode was not shifting gears correctly and I had no reverse.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2026

Transmission locked up after leaving a stop sign. Rear wheels locked and vehicle was inoperable. Dealership repaired with replacement transmission valve body parts under warranty.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2026

To start off my truck has been to the dealership multiple time for the camera. After third time in the shop they fixed that issue. Then the infotainment started acting up after about 4 times in the shop it was fixed. They gave me the prescribed fix for the engine recall in November. Engine passed the test. Then 3 weeks ago the engine siezed up from the crank and bearings on the interstate doing 70 pulling a trailer in traffic. Leaveing me and my dad in the middle of the interstate. I had to have it towed 2 hours to my house. After the prescribed engine fix. They replaced the motor in 3 days. Great right? no they did not test drive long enough. Or they would have felt the shudder that developed after the new engine went in. It is now about to go back to the shop. Because of the shudder at low rpm and im haveing electrical issues again as well . My remote start also stopped working after the engine replacement.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2026

My tailgate kept opening randomly and engine was making clunking sound initially. Lost many tools on the highway once when it opened. Dealership told me my truck is not covered under a recall for both issues, even though other similar vehicles are. I refused to pay anything to have it fixed. They claimed my truck “wasn’t built in the factory that has recalls”. A month later the starter and battery burned up when I started up the truck, something locked up it sounded like. Eventually it started but didn’t sound right. A few days later the engine finally blew up. I paid out of pocket for everything for that trip. It’s currently back at the dealer being repaired with a new engine for the recall but GMC refuses to pay for the initial clunking/starter/battery and the tailgate issues. I’ve encored so many charges with tows and rentals from all these issues. I would like full reimbursement for everything.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2025

70mph with cruise control on, truck shifted from drive to neutral uncomanded. There were no indications of the issue before it happened. The dealer has the truck and I havent heard back from them yet. From my limited research, this is a common problem for these trucks.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2025

Driving home with kids from snowboarding and check engine light comes on. “power reduced, drive carefully” well I’m in 4 wheel drive the roads aren’t great and I have my kids in the truck. We were safe. Now? I am nearly getting ran off the road there aren’t any exits from the freeway. Kids are terrified. Able to limp home all the while with crying kids. Hook up scanner and it’s p1098. A little research tells me it’s a coolant control valve. Which is known problem from GMC so much so that the company issued an extended warranty to cover. No recall? no just let people experience this event across the country in a truck that is billed as safe and reliable by the company that sells them. This is a complete joke. The part is on national backorder because the problem is so prevalent. So now I have a truck that is inoperable. 52k miles and it’s a 2022. Someone needs to investigate this company as soon as possible.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2025

Bought truck 0n 12/26/2025 from lot in michigan had it transported to missouri. First time I drive it check engine comes on and goes into "limp mode". Had it towed to gm dealer and they say it was the high pressure fuel pump. Got it back and check engine light comes back on then goes off then back on again. Not happy at all!!!.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2025

I had a lifter fail which is a well known problem for these gm engines. The lifter caused the cam shaft to be damaged because of the lobes being shaved off. Now I’m being told that it will be over $10,000 fix a 3 year old truck.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2025

I was accelerating from a stop light at green. The rmp's revved up, truck jerked, and it would not shift or accelerate. I was almost rear ended on a busy street. There was not warning light prior. The service light then came on. I pulled over, turned the truck off. I turned it back on and put it in drive. It shifted to 30 mph, jerked, and would not shift. The message on the dash states it is in limited power, in limp mode. The GMC app states there is a transmission system issue detected. My mechanic stated the control module is bad and needs replaced. I called GMC and they stated it is out of warranty by 4795 miles. Having a vehicle that will not accelerate on a busy street is dangerous. It is a 2022 with low miles. I limped it to my work office 2 miles away and called family to get me. I live 50 miles from work.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2025

My truck went into "limp" mode and had very little power. It was towed to the dealership where they diagnosed the issue as a bad solenoid causing the engine misfires. The solenoid was replaced, but the issue was not fixed. Now the dealership is stating the engine has bent lifters and the repairs will not be covered under the ongoing massive engine recall. The vehicle had the pico test on 9/17 and it "passed", but less than 3k miles later and the engine failed. This is a clear safety issue and well known by NHTSA and gm. Now I'm negotiating with the dealership to cover repairs and my truck has been gone nearly a month.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2025

Just after merging from I-65 north to 264 east at 65 mph in louisville ky on November 14th, the display indicated to "press start" and the engine stalled. I was only able to get the vehicle about 3 inches off of the left side of the yellow line before running out of inertia. I was stuck there for 2 hours while waiting for a tow truck. The first truck could not lift my vehicle because with the engine off, the electric shifter would not move out of park. A second tow truck was called with dolly's and then a 3rd tow truck was required to block traffic. During this 2 hour period several cars swerved left of the yellow line and I was in fear for my life. The traffic was so heavy that I was trapped between the concrete median wall and the left lane. I called 911 to ask for a safety vehicle to shield me from traffic, but they never arrived as promised.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2025

Transmission self destructed at 68,000 miles. Had to have it replaced at GMC dealership at a cost of over $7,000. GMC did not offer any coverage of the cost.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph the rear wheels suddenly seized causing the vehicle to abruptly stop in the middle of the road. The vehicle was restarted and slowly driven home. The contact indicated that later after restarting the vehicle it was discovered that the vehicle would not drive forward or in reverse. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. And referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the NHTSA campaign number: 26v083000(power train ). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced that same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 67,000.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2025

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving, the vehicle decelerated unintendedly and failed to exceed 50 mph on several occasions. The check engine warning light illuminated, and the message " reduced acceleration - drive with care" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions, and the onstar sensors, the fuel injectors and 8 spark plugs were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who retrieved dtcs: p0747, indicating a pressure control solenoid a stuck on failure, and p0700, indicating a transmission control module failure. The dealer determined that the failure was related to gm special coverage number: n242454441 (momentary rear wheel lock-up); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance in adding the VIN to the special coverage. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2025

Constant engine issues. Cams, lifters, now needs new motor. Motor apparently unavailable.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2025

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at speeds over 20 mph, the vehicle began shaking and the transmission shifted prematurely and hard. The contact stated that the check engine, traction control, abs, transmission, and other unknown warning lights were intermittently illuminated. The contact stated that on one occasion while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to slow down as intended. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2025

When putting the truck in reverse it did not go, then suddenly squealed the tires and engaged reverse. This happened 2 days in a row. On the 3rd day, it would not go into reverse at all and had to be pushed in neutral from a parking space to be able to drive forward. At that time, it was at first jerky but did go forward. Subsequently, I did not drive it until my appointment with the dealership and I was able to put it in reverse.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2025

Purchased this vehicle used with having 34k miles. Currently has 37k. Powertrain is still under warranty. I will be taking it in to have looked at. The truck has already been in for rear main seal failure and the dealership failed to investigate the transmission issue as far as I know. The issue is with the transmission and shifting, specifically going into second gear. While going into second gear the truck feels like it is in neutral for a couple seconds then ultimately gets its 2nd gear. This appears to only happen after the truck has been sitting off for some time. Between a few hours and overnight. The biggest concern for me was when this happened as I pulled out into the road and was left without propulsion for a brief moment with oncoming traffic. If driving in snow I feel like once the gear grabs, would likely cause a spin-out in front of traffic. This is a serious safety concern. There are no warning lamps or messages on the dash for this issue. This is a 2022 GMC sierra limited elevation crew cab 2. 7l v4 with turbo.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2025

My truck is under the national recall from GMC for the 6. 2l engine problems. I even received the recall notice from GMC stating this. This truck has been in and out of the shop for engine problems things I took delivery of it in 2022. The latest was in April of 2025 and while it was in the repair service at the dealership, the national recall came out. During that time the dealership tried to tell me the problem was with my exhaust system so I was not covered under the recall. I knew they were not being truthful so I refused to take possession of the truck as I new it had all the symptoms that GMC was describing in my recall notice. My truck sat at the dealership for almost 5 months and last week they force me to take possession of my truck my taking back my "loaner vehicle". They stated "my truck passed the required inspection", which I knew they were being dishonest, but was forced to take the truck back anyway. Three days after taking possession I was on the interstate doing 60 mph and the engine totally seized up and almost caused an accident from the vehicles behind me running into me because of the sudden decrease in speed. I was able to safely pull over and had to get towed back to the dealership. This incident is beyond just a engine recall now because they new my truck was not safe to drive and forced me to take back my truck. Im just thankful I was driving and not my wife, or having my two grandchildren in the truck with me. To make mtters worse in this scenerio, this truck is actually my replacement truck because my 2021 truck had to be taken back per the lemon law in 2022, so this will now be truck #2 being lemon law and my original truck loan isnt even paid off. I have all of the various engine repair paperwork on this truck dating back to 2022.

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2025

Multiple times now my vehicle has had its engine locked up while driving at highway and regular uphill driving. Along with towing aswell. I have had it repaired multiple times and last time dealer wouldn’t tell me what happened because gm wouldn’t let them figure out what happened. Along with multiple attempts at fixing the transmission and brakes that are still on going issue. Same with the engine.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2025

Transmission fail to shift. Have to stop, restart truck to get it to shift causing safety issue. Warning lighted eventually came on.

35 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2025

Initially experienced hard clunking sound when transmission shifting between 35-40 mph. I took in for service and dealership replaced egr sensor. The problem was not resolved with this fix. I took the vehicle back for service and the dealership then did a software/system reset. I then drove my truck with towing a trailer to san diego and upon exiting the freeway, the back tires locked up causing a screeching of the tires which caused my vehicle to swerve. I felt as though this could have caused an accident. Shortly after, the engine light came on and my vehicle went into “limp mode”. A dealership in san diego then told me that the valve body plate would need to be replaced. According to the internet this seems to be an ongoing issue with this year’s vehicle, yet no recall has been issued by gm. I understand gm has issues a special warranty coverage #n242454441 providing extended warranty for control valve issues. I’ve been told my VIN is not included for this special warranty when it is the exact same issue.
