This complaint involves a sudden failure of my vehicle’s anti-lock braking system (abs) and forward collision warning system, both of which are critical safety systems. While driving my [xxx] son to school, multiple warning lights suddenly appeared on the dashboard without any prior indication of a problem. The vehicle displayed a warning message instructing me not to exceed 36 miles per hour, and several system alerts activated simultaneously, my abs brake system failed and a transmission failure warning. These issues appeared suddenly while the vehicle was in normal operation. Prior to this incident, the vehicle had been functioning perfectly. The evening before, I had driven the vehicle to pick up my son from wrestling practice with no issues. The following morning, during a routine trip to school, these critical safety warnings appeared without warning. Because the warnings involved the braking system, I immediately took the vehicle to beach Buick GMC for inspection. The dealership diagnosed the issue as a software failure affecting the braking system and informed me that the vehicle required a software update and system download in order to restore proper operation of the brakes and related safety systems. I was required to pay over $300 for this repair because my vehicle is approximately 3,000 miles outside of the warranty period. However, I believe a failure involving the braking system and safety warnings should not occur suddenly in a properly functioning vehicle and should not be treated as a normal maintenance expense. I contacted **general motors customer service to ask why a failure involving a critical safety system would not be covered or investigated further. The only explanation provided was that the vehicle was outside of the warranty period. I requested a written explanation of their decision for my records, but I was told that providing written explanations is against company policy. I have more to say but I am out of characters. . . This has now happened 4 times and I'm taking the truck to the dealership to figure out what the issue is. At high speeds, 65 to 75 mph, on the freeway, the rear brakes suddenly lock up for no apparent reason. Extremely dangerous for myself and surrounding vehicles, especially behind me. The most recent incident pretty much gave me whiplash because it's unexpected with no warnings whatsoever. The freeway was clear, with light traffic. I was almost rear ended because the vehicle behind me had no reason to believe the my vehicle was going to suddenly come to an abrupt stop. I looked up any known similar issues for the 2023 model, and found that there GMC did a recall for similar issues on the up to 2022 models, but that the issue had been resolved. Obviously it hasn't.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle started running abnormally rough, promptly the contact to discontinue driving the vehicle. The message “service traction control” was displayed, and the abs warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but it had not yet been diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000.
Engine has seized twice, completely shutting down without electrical power or brakes. The vehicle also shut down in an intersection (no power, brakes, flashers). I was able to pull to the side on the 2 engine seizures but not during the electrical shutdown at the intersection in the turn lane. The engine was replaced the first time by quality GMC in albuquerque, nm. The 2nd engine is being replaced by diamond GMC in palmdale, CA. Warning lamps on the 1st engine seizure was tire pressure warning. The electrical shutdown was forward collision warning, emergency braking, etc. The 2nd engine seizure said something about engine needed to be restarted.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving on the highway at 75 mph, all of the warning lights on the instrument panel had illuminated, the contact depressed the brakes and the vehicle would not brake in a panic the contact quickly steered into the left lane, pumped the brakes frantically, and the vehicle was finally able to come to a stop. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, the contact was advised that the failure experienced was due to a faulty battery and that it would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 28,550.
While driving on the highway a message came up stating brake system failure, top speed 62 mph. It also came up with other error messages, like service traction control. I completely lost any braking capability and had to let it slow down & pull off to the side of the highway. I shutoff the vehicle and then restarted it & everything seemed fine. I took it to the dealership right away, where they said it had about 20 communication codes across different systems. After 3 days of them having it, they have no idea what is going on. They are now test driving my truck to see if they can get it to happen again (which could kill someone if it does happen again).
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated upon attempting to start the vehicle remotely, the lights illuminated; however, the engine failed to turn over. The contact stated that upon pressing the push to start button, the message "service braking system" and other braking system messages, and message that the "top speed 43 mph" were displayed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle experienced reduced braking while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where an unknown software update was performed; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where a service representative scanned the vehicle and informed the contact that diagnostic trouble codes were retrieved; however, the dealer later informed the contact that the failure could not be replicated. The contact used a scanner to scan the vehicle and retrieved diagnostic trouble codes. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer later informed the contact that they could not assist because the dealer stated that the failure could not be replicated. The failure mileage was unknown.
Pulled up to a stop sign and attempt to make a right turn as I was in the turn the steering wheel locked up in the turn which almost caused and accident . I had to get the vehicle towed to wyatt johnson GMC dealership in clarksville TN. I purchased this truck in Jan 2024 from romain cross pointe auto park in evansville ,indiana at 7600 e division st, evansville, in 47715 it had 13k miles. I'm the second owner I only put 2k miles since ownership. I was able to obtain a vehicle history report which shows this has been an on going problem among other issues dtc code u0131 lost communication with power steering module shows at least 9 times that romain GMC try to fix the problem. This is extremely dangerous to drive and the steering goes out this has been a known problem. . See attachments.
The truck jolts forward when approaching a complete stop. I have to prepare for it as I decelerate 10mph to 5mph to complete stop.
I have been trying since day one of my brand new 2023 sierra denali pickup truck hence I spent a $100 k plus oem accessories at the dealer ! this complaint is in reference to the safety part of the brake trailing that disconnect and lose light and brakes ! I have spent insane times at the dealers and have complained to the GMC executive offices with nothing but excuses and absolutely zero help from GMC cooperate but continue to go make appointments at the dealers ! this is safety complaint and they are not taking this seriously at all ! there is defiantly a ongoing issue with either the computer onboard or the trailer module ! I am not a engineer but again this is a safety issue that needs to be looked at ASAP ! I do not feel safe driving the truck !.
Traveling at 70 mph on cruise control, tapped breaks to turn off, multiple warning lights flashed, vehicle lost power, and breaks with multiple messages including “break system failure, top speed 62 mph”. I lost all breaking control on the highway and nearly crashed into other vehicles due to inability to stop. Was able to pull over, turn off vehicle, and turn back on, when the breaks were working again but the vehicles acceleration was very slow. Currently at authorized repair shop. When dropped off, there were 8-9 active codes.
Electric parking brake turn on while towing behind RV did damage to driver side ,had towed it for 340 miles before this happened it is not in my manual to disconnect the ground cable ,when I took it to dealer they gave me a paper stating I need to disconnect the ground cable after putting truck in neutral I told them gm should have put that in the manual instead of tell the dealer . I have turned a claim into gm thru bbb auto line have not heard back yet.
