The contact stated that while driving on the highway at 70 mph, the front grill deflector detached and became airborne and struck the windshield, causing a crack. The grill deflector also struck the vehicle behind the contact; however, no damage was caused. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the deflector was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 25v060000 (structure); as a possible cause for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 75 mph on the interstate, the upper lip of the front grill detached and flew over the windshield into oncoming traffic. The driver was unable to retrieve the part. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer, who confirmed there was no recall coverage on the VIN for the failure. The dealer informed the contact that the part was on backorder. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called another local dealer, ross downing Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (500 westin oaks dr, hammond, la 70403) and was referred to the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
