My 2008 GMC sierra has had the electric door locks fail on three of the four doors. The first occurred after about 36,000 miles and the most recent occurred today at about 64,700 mles. The first repair cost over $300. I have been hesitant to have the other two doors repaired because of cost, but safety is a concern. The two rear doors now will not automatically lock when the vehicle is placed in drive, presenting a hazard especially when tranporting children. I have seen numerous similar complaints on the internet. Shoouldn't gm issue a recall for this problem?.

Right passenger door lock intermittent locking. Car alarm will set and vehicle will start without the door locking.
2008 GMC Sierra 1500 power door locks all failed.
Power door lock failed on driver door. You can not open door with out lifting hand latch. This is very dangerous-- meaning you can not open door by door handle-- there is no override like provided on other vehicles. Other door failed 2 months later. Truck locks and unlocks doors when moving shifter from park to drive, there is no program option to delete this option. So you lock and unlock doors every time you shift truck transmission to park or in drive. This is not needed in my case, since you can manually do same. This is manufacture defect and should be recalled.
Passenger automatic door lock quit working first. After 6 months or so the drivers side door lock quit working also. Then within months after the drivers door lock failing both rear door locks quit working within a month of each other. Now none of the doors lock automatically or when the lock button is pushed.
GMC door lock actuators fail at a very high rate. Doors will not automatically lock/unlock when you put the vehicle park/drive.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the automatic door lock would not lock even when attempting to lock the vehicle maunally. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or manufacturer and was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 38,000.
At about 37k miles the front doors of my 2008 sierra will not unlock have to manually lock doors and fob will not lock even unlock doors resulting in possible theft. Back doors work properly. Also fog lights do not work properly. A/c is making a loud noise.
Power door lock failure. Cannot lock or unlock 3 out of the trucks 4 doors with remote or the on board lock/unlock button. The driver door failed 3 week ago, the driver side rear door failed last week and the passenger side read door failed yesterday. This is both a safety and security issue. The back door locks can only be accessed from inside the truck in the event of an emergency with no key access. From a security stand point the failure is not known until the door either does not lock or unlock and you notice the failure. This becomes an issue as you may think that the vehicles doors are locked but they are not. Also the inability to lock the door in the event someone is trying to get into the vehicle I. E. Carjacking. I have scheduled a repair with the dealer who admitted that this is a known issue.
2 of the door lock actuators failed.
Latch/lock on center console/jump seat failure. The plastic latch for the lid on the center console, which is also a jump seat when upright, has failed. The result is the lid can become open if the seat is tilted up to use as a jump seat, or if downward pressure is applied to the rear of the lid, or if you hit a bump or if you are in a crash. The contents of the compartment can be released and pose an imminent danger to the occupants of the vehicle in the result of a crash or otherwise become a distraction to the driver. The plastic latch is not available as a replacement part from GMC. The entire console must be purchased for $450 to replace latch and it has the same defective latch.

2008 GMC Sierra 1500 truck electric lock actuators are defective - there are several complaints on line - mine are no longer working and 2 of the 4 have already been replaced.
The contact owns a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500. The vehicle was parked with the engine running and the doors locked. Upon trying to enter the vehicle using a separate remote key the vehicle would not unlock. He had to enter the vehicle through the front drivers side door by manually unlocking the door. Once he entered the vehicle he smelled a slight melting odor. He compared the odor to the smell of burning wires. The vehicle was not examined by the dealer to determine the cause of failure. The manufacturer was notified and stated that he had to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer and pay to have the failure diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 47,000.
Random door lock failure leading to permanent failure over several months. Owner is unaware of problem until several weeks or months as problem progresses to complete failure. Door locks will sometimes lock and sometimes unlock, but totally unaware to the owner until the problem finishes with complete failure. Often times vehicle is left unlocked when owner assumes it is. The problem creates opportunity for crime as well as many other safety concerns. The other major concern is the integrity of the door locking system during a crash . . . . . When you know your doors may not be locked. I have grave concerns for children in the back seats of vehicles that should be locked but aren't. Because of flaws in component integrity. This problem has happened to 3 (including myself) out of 5 trucks owned by friends or family members. The internet is flooded with thousands of people having the same problem. We have serious concerns regarding this matter. Thanks for your CO-operation.
Neither the left nor right cargo gate latch bolts failed to engage when the gate was in the full upright position and where it should have latched. This allowed the gate to fall open when accelerating. Lubrication with a silicone wax spray did not seem to free the bolts. Repeated lifting of the center handle on the gate followed by quick release did not result in the latch bolts engaging and the handle subsequently broke with minimal effort. Once the handle was removed, contact points on the remaining handle hardware and latch bolts then allowed free movement of the latch bolts. The handle has not been replaced but the latches on the gate are easily opened by pulling both cables towards the middle. Contact surfaces show little or no corrosion or debris. The gate was always tested for closure and it is suspected that the latch bolts were only partially closing at the time of the incident. The gate had been found open and items lost in the past but it had been thought the gate had just been left open rather having been closed followed by falling open after latch failure.

I have a 2002 GMC sierra z71 4x4 truck, regular cab with an 8 foot bed. It has 75000 miles. The problem I'm having is both of the outside door handles stick open a little after you pull the handle to open the door and get in. Now when you put the truck in gear, or start moving the doors lock automatically. When you stop and put the truck in park the doors automatically unlock. Now since the outside door handle is stuck slightly open the door won't unlock or open with the inside handle, you have to reach outside push the handle in then you can unlock and open the door. I have electric windows, and have to put them down to reset the outside handle. My concern is, if I was in an accident, and my windows were up, and my battery was damaged, and the truck lost electrical power I can't open the windows to reset the handle, so that I can get out? now I'm trapped in the truck!!.
The contact owns a 2009 GMC sierra. There was a burnt wire in the drivers door. This disabled the actuator that locks all four door when the key is in the ignition, and when the key is taken out of the ignition to unlock the doors. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the technician stated that the actuator in the door and then the wiring harness need to be replaced. However the parts are on back order. A representative from the GMC manufacturer stated that the vehicle was safe to drive until the parts arrived. The failure mileage was 4,100.

Headlights dim when the brakes are applied, when the truck shifts from 1st to second gear and when the blinkers are used at interstate speeds. Contacted gm and have been told this is normal in all vehicles. Also have had 3 door lock actuators and 1 window motor replaced. Had to have the front steering/rack and pinion replaced. Currently having problem with front door not opening.
Power door locks do not work on vehicle, whether using key fob, or lock/unlock button inside. The problem is intermittent; different locks do not work at different times.
Door locks quit locking with the auto locker and remote on the driver door 1st 1trip. Took three month to get parts trip to fix. And then the rear passenger door quit another trip to get looked at. Now waiting to get the rear door parts and someone told me it could do it to all 4 doors. . . . . . . . My truck has seen more time at the shop then in my driveway.
