One problem related to car accelerates on its own has been reported for the 1999 GMC Sierra 2500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The vehicle was cold and driven approx 1/2 mile to stop light from home. I was lightly stepping on the brake waiting for a light to turn green and all of a sudden a brief surge which caused me to hit the brake harder and then the surge stopped. I could see the tach go up as if I had hit the accelerator. In my opinion this sudden acceleration is a computer issue and not a Toyota, Ford or GMC issue. Who manufactures the computer equipment for these vehicles? in my case I just ignored it because nothing bad happened but I thought the NHTSA should know. I have not had the problem since.
