1 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2017

I purchase this truck 2/03/17 and have used it until 2 weeks age when the brake lines broke in my driveway, I am having the lines replaced with stainless lines at a cost of about $1200 ( I am not sure of the total cost because it also needs a antilock braking pump which was badly corroded) the fuel lings are also rusted and need to be replaced and also the transmission cooling lines need to be replaced at a cost to be determined later. I have a 1953 chevy pickup that still has good brake lines and the frame is in better shape than the newer ones, if gm looked to the past at the materials & methods they might build a better product rather than the garbage they produce now! I am glad I didn't pay $30-$60,000 for this truck.

2 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Rear steel brake line failure while in parking lot, complete loss of braking ability.

3 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2014

Driving down rural road at 55mph, a deer jumps into my path. I quickly brake, abs activates and pedal drops to near floor. Truck does stop, but braking much more different than normal. Deer moves on and I start moving again. Next stop sign I notice that brake pedal drops to floor, still braking, but much more difficult to brake. I made it home and noticed my brake line directly under the driver position was spraying fluid now.

4 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2014

Pulling out of my driveway onto the street. Applied the brakes when reaching the end of the driveway and brake pedal when completely to the floor. Was able to stop, being that I was only going around 2 mph at the time. When I got out of the truck, I saw a large amount of brake fluid on the driveway from a burst brake line.

5 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2014

I have owned many gm trucks, and never had one with so many rusted out brake lines. Why can't they make them with stainless steel lines. They should have a recall for this. What happens when front and back lines go at the same time, I will tell you, no brakes ! this is the worst one with the rust that I have had. 3 lines rust out on the GMC 2500 hd (2002) with more to come, I have 25,000 miles on this truck. The first line went about 15,000 miles. Also I only got about 5,000 miles on those firestone tires, cheap tires come with this truck. I have also noticed the frame is rusting, had to have the cable replaced that shifts the truck into gear, it rusted out. I go to the car wash and always wash the underside of the truck to get all the dirt and salt off every chance I get. When I got the GMC I was told by the GMC garage not to have the truck undercoated because it would void the warranty on it. I also had to have the cables replaced on the tail gate due to rust. Very sad about this GMC truck. Everything is rusting. I should have a lot of miles left on this truck, if it doesn't rust itself to death or get me killed because of rusted out brake lines !.

6 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2014

Brakes failed while driving down road. All brake lines are severely rusted. Is their a galvanic reaction between lines and truck that is causing this? have never had brake lines rust as badly on other vehicles that were older than this one.

7 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2014

Brakes went out no warning, after looking on drivers side seat under truck where fluid was running out saw where brake line was rusted and it busted. So I took several pictures and called GMC, they in turn towed my truck to auffenberg of carbondale, illinois at no charge. At this time I started researching the rusted brake problem and found where alan adler (manager product safety communications) for gm said on (abc news rusted brake lines) where they were offering a (kit) to have the rusted brake lines repaired for a cost to us of $500. 00. So now today 06/05/2014 my truck is done at a cost of $1188. 05 to me for the dealer knows nothing of this. I have tried to contact alan adler through gm and no one knows who he is, I have sent many complaints and talked with many people and no one seems to know what I am talking about. My ref. # 71-1310059355 with the complaint dept. So if this man can say on the news that they have this kit and that all the dealers were told about it how can they lie and charge the people what they want. Thank you.

8 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2013

The vehicle was parked on a 35-40 degree sloped driveway. Got in, stepped on brake, started vehicle, released emergency brake, shift into reverse, and brake pedal went to the floor, with truck rolling backwards. Wheel was turned, and truck hit a side of retaining wall. It did not roll back excessively fast, but it could not stop in time to avoid hitting the wall. Found badly corroded brake lines. One had ruptured right behind the driver's front wheel fender well.

9 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2012

Rotted out brake lines @ 118,000 miles . Should be a recall . No accident but was pulling my boat at time of failure. Could have been a very bad accident . Just finished changing all the brake lines what a job. Between this n the injectors this truck was a poor value. All done with gm had too many problems with their trucks with no support from gm or it's dealers. Lost lifetime customer.

10 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2012

I was driving my 2002 GMC Sierra 2500 hd on i95 when traffic came to a sudden stop. I slammed on the brakes at which point the abs system started pulsing the brakes, but the brake pedal suddenly went to the floor with no further brake response. Thankfully, the brakes slowed the truck enough prior to failure to prevent a collision at 65 mph. I hit the car in front of me at ~5-10 mph, causing bumper damage to my truck and the car in front of me. I was able to get the car to the side of the road and to my horror I had no brakes. The vehicle was towed to a local authorized GMC dealer who has maintained the truck for me. They confirmed that the brake lines catastrophically failed when I slammed on the brakes. The rusted brake lines burst when I slammed on the brakes. They indicated that all of the brake lines had to be replaced do to rust throughout. I can't believe I have been driving this truck around with a pending catastrophic brake failure without warning from gm or the servicing dealer. If the word is not put out to owners of affected GMC truck, lives will be lost. I shudder to think what could have happened if I had been pulling up to a pedestrian filled crosswalk when the failure occurred. Updated 10/03/lj.

11 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2012

Was traveling on a straight stretch of road approaching a red light. As I attempted to apply the brakes the brake pedal went straight to the floor - the vehicle would not stop. I then dropped the transmission from "d" or drive to "l1", engaged the "tow setting" of the transmission, and applied the parking brakes while maintaining the parking disengagement lever in the "up" position in order to stop the truck. The brakes failed. Gm dealership confirmed that the brake lines had rusted through. The entire brake system froze in place resulting in the replacement of the lines, rotors, discs.

12 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

17 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2011

Brake lines are severely corroded and look ready to fail, and I find out that this is a common complaint and all the brake lines should and must be replaced by general motors. The GMC and Chevrolet 2500hd modeles are notorius for this malady, and the ntsb should do their job and force gm to replace at no charge, the vehicles brake lines.

18 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2011

I applied my brakes on my GMC truck and they failed . The brake tubing rusted thru at the abs unit. Upon further inspection it was determand that all the brake lines were rusted severly. I tried to find pre bent lines and they are not avail. From gm and not avail from aftermarket for a 2002 GMC 2500hd 2wd or any GMC from dealer. Frme and undercarage is rusted worse the my 1983 and brake rotors rusted and flaked away.

19 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

Was heading down the street, coming to a stop sign. Slowing down, got to about 9 mph, and then the brake pedal went to the floor, and was unable to stop in time and went into the intersection and finally stopped 30 feet after the stop sign with the brake pedal all the way on the floor. Got the truck home, somewhat safely, and found out that all of the brake lines were rusted, and ended up having to replace all of the lines due to them crumbling when touching them.

20 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2011

Three brake lines ruptured simultaneously causing an inability to stop the vehicle. The cause of failure was related to an extensive amount of corrosion on all of the brake lines on the vehicle. Complete replace is necessary. There is a regional recall on this exact issue but does not include my state. There are considerable reports of this failure across the country but gm and even worse NHTSA fails to force a nationwide recall of this potentiality deadly failure. A simple search of the internet will prove this defect is not constrained to only the rust belt states. My '66 chevy still has the original brake lines with no signs of degradation however my '02 GMC requires the replacement of all metal lines on the vehicle. The existence of a current regional recall proves that gm admits to the problem! this failure needs to be corrected nationwide.

21 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

23 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2010

I was parked in a friends driveway and was about to leave when I released the parking brake stepped on the brake pedal and put my 2002 GMC 2500hd truck into gear. I started driving down the street and approached a stop sign, when I applied the brakes the pedal went straight to the floor. I pulled off to the side of the road and opened the hood when I noticed brake fluid all over the frame in the engine compartment. Upon further investigation I found all the brake lines to be severely rusted and at least one of them ruptured. I was driving with my 9 month old son at the time of the incident and thank god nobody was coming the other way down the road. I had the truck towed to my home where it sits awaiting a total brake line replacement. The underneath of the truck is so severely rusted I think GMC is liable and should issue a recall to correct the problem.

I was plowing snow on the common driveway that I share with 3 other neighbors and came around a bend to meet my neighbor's son on his atv. I slammed on the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. Fortunately the pile of snow in front of the plow helped stop my truck. The atv operator dodged in to the snow bank. There was no contact. I found that I had multiple brakeline failures on my truck. I have had a previous brake line failure in 2008 but could not find the work order for repairs to verify date and mileage.
