Speedometer quit working while driving. Shows 75 miles an hour while stopped goes up to 120 on acceleration. No way to know actual speed.
I own a 2005 GMC Sierra 2500hd pickup. The speedometer on this vehicle is starting to go bad and when I am driving down the highway it will gradually loose indicated speed and then eventually go to zero. I am aware that there is currently a recall out for this type of problem, but I had my vehicle in the shop and for some reason my VIN # does not fall into the recall list so I have not got it repaired at this time. The recall document that I found is #07187c: special coverage adjustment - instrument panel cluster gauge needle function -(Mar 20, 09), my question is that does your agency update this list frequently or once it is out that is all that will be covered?.

Sudden problems with speedometer. Speedometer starts at between 35 and 60 mph at a complete stop then goes up from there well past 120mph when traveling no faster then 60mph. Also does not move smoothly but rather very jumpy. This is a very well maintained truck with 54k miles on it.
The contact owns a 2005 GMC Sierra 2500 hd. On June 5, 2009, the speedometer displayed inaccurate readings. The speedometer read 120 mph when the vehicle was actually being driven 45 mph. There were no previous failures with the speedometer. The failure mileage was 60,000.
Speedometer was intermittently sticking. (needle would jump up or down, not rotate smoothly with speed changes. This problem lasted approximately 2 weeks. Then started reading high or low by up to 50mph. This lasted approximately 4 days. Then needle rolled over past the 120 mark and stuck there. No repairs have been made yet.
The contact owns a 2005 GMC Sierra 2500 hd. While approaching a stop sign at less than 15 mph, the speedometer read 40 miles over the actual mileage traveled. The manufacturer initiated a safety improvement campaign to correct the failure on the instrument panel but the mileage on his vehicle was outside of the manufacturer's requirements. No repairs were made to correct the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was under 70,000 and the current mileage was under 90,000. Updated 12/07/09 updated 12/09/09.
Speedometer is pegged at 120mph and stops at 30mph.
2005 GMC 2500hd speedometer is inaccurate. Gm is unwilling to fix the problem at their expense. They are covering the 2003 and 2004 models only. That makes very little sense to me as they are older models. I have noticed on the internet, that this is a wide spread problem.
Speedometer reads wrong. Will be doing 55 mph and the speedometer says 120 mph. At a stop it says I am doing 80 mph. GMC wants over $500 to fix this. I am not alone in my complaint there are hundreds, if not thousands of others. . Read more...
