Latches/locks/linkage Problems of GMC Sierra 2500

The contact owns a 2021 GMC Sierra 2500. The contact received manufacturer's recall number: n232426400, for water intrusion into the electronic gate-release switch. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that six months after the vehicle was repaired, the tailgate failed to operate as intended. While at the residence, the taillights and headlights were flashing. The contact also became aware that the tailgate had unlatched independently while the vehicle was parked. The message "integrated tailgate open or integrated tailgate not latched" was displayed. The contact stated that there was an abnormal clicking sound coming from the actuator when the tailgate opened independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that there was water in the switch. The dealer informed the contact that the repairs were already made and, due to the water intrusion into the switch, the dealer refused to redo the repair under the previous recall. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and denied assistance since the recall repair was already performed. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.

The contact owns a 2021 GMC Sierra 2500. The contact stated that the VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 24v060000 (latches/locks/linkages) and the main exterior touchpad switch assembly was replaced. The contact stated that after the recall repair the second exterior touchpad switch assembly suddenly short circuited and caused the trunk to open unintendedly. The vehicle was returned to the dealer who stated that that only one exterior touchpad switch assembly was replaced, despite the remedy stating that the exterior touchpad switch assemblies would be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 55,700.

The contact stated that no visible tailgate was attached and was the best of his knowledge the vehicle was not serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 24v060000 (latches, locks, linkages) however the recall remedy was marked as completed per the VIN. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where they advised the contact that the recall repairs were completed. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer (littleton chevy 851 meadow st littleton, nh 03561) for a second opinion where they notified the contact was the recall repairs were not performed. In addition, the contact stated that the tailgate was replaced with an after-market part due to back issues. No failures were experienced with the original part. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue.  the contact had not experienced a failure.

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500. The contact stated while driving approximately 45–50 mph in the rain, the tail gate opened unintendedly. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that cargo in the bed of the truck fell out onto the roadway. The contact stated that the failure was like NHTSA campaign number: 24v060000 (latches/locks/linkages) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 2,900.

I have a 2009 GMC Sierra 2500 with 39,200 miles. My door lock actuator quit working, so my door no longer automatically locks and unlocks which I consider to be a safety hazard. I noted on-line that this seems to be a very common problem in GMC trucks, tahoes, and suburbans - and I even have friends and family members that have had the very same problem with their gm trucks. Because this is so very common, and to me is a safety issue, it seems like gm should be addressing this. I inquired with the dealer, and the cost for a single door lock is well over $200. Based on what I've been reading, I can expect the remaining locks to go out over time. I respectfully request that NHTSA look into this matter as I believe it is affecting many others and is a safety hazard.

Door locks will not work they stay unlocked or locked wichever possission they are in have had repaired 3 times at dealer are gone again replaced actuator 3 time an 3 of 4 doors noe driver side and back passenger side gone again. Afraid grandoughter can open door while driveing.

The contact owns a 2006 GMC 2500 cargo van. While the vehicle was parked, the contact was unable to open the rear passenger cargo door. The hinge was bent and misaligned; the bottom pins were also rusted. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. The contact called the manufacturer who referred him to the dealership to have the vehicle repaired at his expense; they stated that they would decide if they would assist in the expenses. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000. The current mileage was approximately 43,000.

A man climbed into a community center van (used to haul food, all metal and no seats in the back), on a cold night and he apparently set a small fire in the back, presumed to keep warm. Child safety door locks on all doors prevented him from getting out. Evidence in van showed that he tried to kick door and windows out but he was unable to get out. He was found dead in the van, with the fire out. The community center reported that an employee had previously been trapped in the van due to the child safety locks.
