While driving at 55 mph on a flat, straight, no traffic, early morning, clear day, new road, between key largo, florida and homestead, florida, my 2008 GMC quadcab diesel with 40,000 miles began vibrating violently. After about 4-5 seconds of tremendous vibration and deceleration, at approx. 35 mph, there was a loud bang. The vehicle was stopped safely on the paved shoulder. After examination on a flat bed tow truck, it was discovered that the "u" joint broke connecting the driveshaft and transmission. The free-wheeling driveshaft punctured three holes in the front floor of the cab, crushed the catalytic converter, smashed the anti lock brake module, broke the gearshift cable, and bent the driveshaft. A steel chasis cross member prevented the driveshaft from dropping to the pavement thus preventing a possible vehicle end over end rotation. The vehicle has a 100,000 mile power train warranty. Today, 3-21-11, 21 days after the incident, no repair has begun on the vehicle. Only three days of rental car was provided. Why has it taken so long to authorize the continuation of a rental car and the gm 100,000 mile power train warranty repair? apparently, a gm representative outside of the dealership of homestead Chevrolet Cadillac in homestead, florida must authorize the warranty repair because the damage exceeds $3000. They would also cover the cost of a rental car. The vehicle owner has documented proof of completing all the required service and safety checks from exclusively GMC dealerships in florida and georgia. Please help to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Please advise general motors (gm) that the 100,000 mile power train warranty is certainly applicable to cover the entire vehicle damage repair and cover a rental car for the duration of the repair.

Limited slip differential causing loss of control on icy roads. I recently lost control of my truck while driving about 45mph on an icy highway in boulder, CO. Because the loss was so instantaneous resulting in the truck spinning 90 degrees to the direction of travel, I question if the limited slip function would cause power to transfer to a wheel if it suddenly hit dry pavement, while the other wheel was spinning on ice, resulting in a spin out. This is only my theory but with 57 years of driving experience and the fact that I have had weird experiences with limited slip differentials in the past I thought my theory may have some validity. My concern is that there are millions vehicles with limited slip differentials on the road and if my theory is valid, perhaps many accidents are being caused by this option (which came as part of a package when I purchased my truck).

Allison transmission housing failed at 54,000 miles. Gm paid parts, I paid 1,200. 00 labor , was told
that there was 2 bulletins out on defective housing and when they finished repair they said they installed updated housing so I would not have problem again. Don't think I should have paid anything to have it repaired! at 105,000 miles transfer case failed , cost 1,150. 00 to repair, have had to take back 2 more times as repair was not done right. At 112. 000 miles speedometer became erratic was told it was a common problem ,and see on complaint search it is , consider this a great safety danger as I do not know what speed I'm going can only guess not fixed yet found some who sells rebuilt ones foe 150. 00 ,said their rebuilding them due the large number that are failing. Also at 112,000 miles park neutral switch started acting up ,check engine light on ,shift bar light goes away, truck won't shift properly and stay in certain gears without shifting up ,effects door locks. Looked up park neutral shift as part and came across bulletins stating that during left hand turn front tire sprays water onto park neutral ,switch causing problem ,needs front & rear shield installed to solve problem. Have taken truck back in waiting for information. Also around 90,000 miles had very hard time starting truck and truck ran poorly, problem became worse took in, fuel injectors were bad and were replaced under warranty at 112,000 miles no need to say I'm not a GMC fan anymore , even though I live in lansing mi ( a gm town)and have lots of friends and family employed there. Good by GMC! never again.
