1 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 04/27/2025

This issue is pertaining to the valve body in my 10-speed transmission. While I was traveling home, the truck experienced a “wheel lockup”. The transmission shifted down aggressively, then putting the truck into limp mode. I had to travel the rest of the way home with a max speed of 35 mph. I have been without this truck for 3 months waiting on parts. This is absolutely unacceptable from gm. Extremely unsave.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2025 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 01/04/2025

The contact owns a 2025 GMC Sierra 2500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light was illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that the rpm was fluctuating while driving. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired due to the warranty. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 600.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 04/23/2024

First date was 04/23/2024 my truck went into limp mode with an alert reading engine and transmission control module problem. Brought it in and they reset the sensors. Shortly after the alert warning goes off again and I turn the engine off and start it back up. It cleared the alert, I brought it back in on 06/15/2024. They reset sensor and fixed a recall on tailgate. I picked up truck, drove it for 2 months and tcm warning came up and threw truck into limp mode while pulling a 2 horse trailer. It turned a 3 hr drive into a 6 hr drive. I brought back to dealer on 8/19/2024 they had it for 4 days and they notified me that this is an on going problem. It is a transmission solenoid valve stuck open and they ordered the part and told me it could be months before the part gets here due to the ongoing backorder from all the other trucks that have the same problem. I use this truck for work and leisure to pull my boat and 2 horse trailer and now I have a vehicle payment to make and no vehicle to use. I cannot use it to work or anything else because it is at the dealer for an unspecified amount of time. I have read online that this is a major problem with this truck and GMC as well as the dealerships know about this problem and they still sold it to me. There are so many complaints online about this GMC 2500 at4 truck problem that GMC should stop selling this truck.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 06/18/2023

The column shifter that is installed on all 2024 GMC Sierra 2500hds and 3500hds poses a potential safety risk to its passengers and other drivers on the road. When the column shifter of the vehicle is in the standard drive position the shifter covers part of the screen and the direct path to the radio volume control dial and infotainment home button. It has been found and replicated that attempting to interact with the infotainment screen ui and the home button/volume control dial the driver may easily accidentally bump the shifter into the neutral position. Bumping this 8000lbs+ vehicle into neutral unintentionally can be extremely dangerous to its passengers and fellow motorists especially when hauling a heavy trailer or load like heavy-duty pickup trucks are designed to do. Bumping the truck into neutral can allow the truck to lose its acceleration capabilities and degrade braking capabilities as the engine would be disconnected from the drive wheels, limiting engine braking and exhaust braking. This kind of braking is commonly used to help stop the truck with heavy trailers and loads. This problem has been commonly referred to in multiple facebook groups relating to the 2024 GMC heavy duty truck. I personally have not had it inspected by any third party as there is not much they can do to remedy the issue. I personally recommend that general motors redesign the column shifter in these trucks shortening it to come no further than the diameter of the steering wheel eliminating any interference with the infotainment system and the home button/volume dial. Gm shall replace this updated shifter free of charge in all trucks just recently built. For gm's sake, it is important that this issue is remedied ASAP as the truck just began production and there is a limited amount on the road. This is available for inspection upon request.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 04/20/2023

Failed transmission control module (24256861). While driving in the early morning hours (darkness) taking my child to school, I was navigating through a busy intersection when the vehicle surged and then made a loud metal on metal sound, feeling as if someone had struck me from behind. At that point the power train became inoperable, stranding us and coming very close to being first, struck from behind and then from cross traffic. The vehicle was/has been inspected by a gm technician at starling Chevrolet, st cloud, FL and the tcm was found to have failed (trouble code u0101, lost communication with tcm). It has been at the dealership for going on four months awaiting the production of a replacement part(tcm). There was no prior indication that the tcm was about to fail. Upon failure, all lights on the vehicle display flashed and the indicator for the vehicle drive position was lost (p, r, n, d), no longer visible.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2020 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 03/10/2022

There is an issue that is causing the batteries to die. This in return causes the vehicle to go into limp home mode with no warning. The "issue" was supposed to be resolved by the dealer in March 2022. The resolution was that one battery was bad. The vehicle is equipped with two batteries. Each of which is sufficient to run the vehicle. A single battery failure should not have caused the truck to have a power limitation. Furthermore the issue was not resolved and general motors and the local dealership refuse to continue to work on the issue. This is even after filling complaints with bbb. As of November 2022 the issue has cause both batteries to go bad. The dealer has refused to work on the vehicle and it has been out of service for more than 30 days. Secondary issue. The dealer has refused to work on the vehicle but computer is locked by gm so that only gm equipment can see full scope of codes. This means I can not have third parties work on the vehicle. This is can get the vehicle stuck in areas where there is not gm facilities and gm will not provide any assistance as it is not under warranty. This has also prevented me from finding the actual resolution to the problem.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2020 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 12/08/2021

While driving truck was setting cruise control at approx 100km/hr. The cruise would set but at approx 70km/hr. Tried to set multiple time throughout the trip but no change. Recorded video and sent to dealer. They brought truck in to check it out, but said that since they can't duplicate the problem they cannot diagnose it. This has happened multiple times and have recorded video each time. Again dealer said they can't do anything unless they see it themselves.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 10/29/2021

I have a 2013 GMC sierra, purchased new in 2012, has approximately 35,000 miles. The check engine light came on while driving and suddenly another light came on. Then a third light came on claiming poor engine fluid quality. I immediately stopped at an auto parts store and put def fluid in the pickup and continued to drive thinking the lights would go out, but instead a warning was flashing on the dash that says after so many miles the truck will be slowed down. We started getting nervous because we were driving on the highway and if the truck suddenly slows down whilst driving in highspeed traffic, our slower vehicle would potentially cause a collision and put us and others in harms way. In reading your own safety site, there is a recall on the vehicle regarding faulty airbags, so it could be even worse! in our investigations of our current issue, we have found that there was a lawsuit from 2019 against gm and their faulty fuel system with their trucks. . 11 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 07/15/2021

Break lights activate by them selves. Can be driving, parked, vehicle off. Parked and locked. The break lights activate randomly. Most recently car was parked in drivevway over the coarse of 2 days. Break lights came on and off until batteries were dead. When parked I can hear clicking noise coming from under the hood periodically, not sure if related or not. Also noticed cruise control will shut its self off some times.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 01/01/2018

Complaint involves reduced power mode while driving. This has become a safety concern because of the rapid drop in speed while driving. It is unsafe trying to exit traffic lanes with no response from throttle pedal and appears to be a common problem with drive by wire vehicles produced by general motors. Vehicle has been to dealership twice with no resolution of the problem. This failure has occurred at various speeds, times of day, temperatures etc. It will enter reduced power once to twice a day. Thank you for your time.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

The biggest problem (out of many) that makes this vehicle unsafe, stressful, and discomforting to drive is how it will randomly decides to raise the idle to 900+ rpm (in gear) and basically drives it's self. During this condition it is very difficult to operate vehicle. Because of its random pattern it caused me to have an accident that resulted in $3500 in body damage to the truck. Thank god no one was hurt. Wear and tear is drastically increased as the vehicle is trying to drive on its own as I'm trying to stop at traffic light, stop signs, or simply parking. Drive-train is banging, brakes are working harder, and fuel is being wasted. Now, add a payload or trailer as I often do and problems are magnified. Essentially the vehicle is aging and wearing its self out before its time. I have been ordered by pima county court to have the vehicle fixed or replace. The officer that gave me the citation witnessed the high engine idle and agreed that it would be difficult to stop especially with a loaded trailer as I had that day. Officer also testified this in court on 11/4/2015. There is a current law suit in California for this defect. My local dealers will not work on vehicle anymore do liability and told me take it up with gm. Gm has provided no assistance.

Failure Date: 12/02/2011

While driving on the highway, my 2003 GMC Sierra 2500 displayed a "reduced engine power" warning on my dashboard. My vehicle lost all speed control, decelerating from 65 mph to 20 mph in a matter of seconds. I immediately pulled over to the side of the highway and shut my truck off. Once I restarted the vehicle, the message was gone and my truck was fine. It was a very scary incident not being able keep the right speed for the conditions on the highway.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 07/27/2011

Issue with throttle body reduced engine power when driving throws out check engine light. Thousand of people have this same issue most have just stopped driving their vehicle like I have because it's unsafe to drive. I hoping not just for me but everyone out there with this same issue to get a recall before it kills someone. I haven't been able to drive my truck in three years.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 GMC Sierra 2500

Failure Date: 12/07/2006

I own a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 crew cab pickup with 59,000 miles. In the last 4 months the speedometer has been giving incorrect readings, I. E. 70 mph when stopped, 115 when doing 40 mph etc. On occasion, it either doesn't work at all, or the needle is fully pegged. There is no way to tell how fast this vehicle is going. GMC customer service has stated that they can provide no financial assistance for the $320 repair because "they cannot make a business case for it. " GMC refuses to acknowledge that this is a pervasive problem throughout many of their vehicles in this model year despite ample documentation of the problem easily found at auto repair websites on the internet. Additionally, previous complaints of this exact nature and exact vehicle have been filed with NHTSA.
