Automatic Transmission problems of the 1996 GMC Sonoma

Eight problems related to automatic transmission have been reported for the 1996 GMC Sonoma. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/13/1999

We have had numerous problems with this vehicle sine one month after purchase including the idle sticking/interior moulding cracking/transmission rebuilt/computer replaced due to failure engine check light indicator light does not turn off, and right side brake does not seem to wear properly. . My husband is able to recall more.

2 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 06/09/1999

Due to defective overspeed sensor vehicle stalled unexpectedly while driving which may result in a crash. Please provide further information.

3 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/11/1997

Transmission problems still occuring at present time also the interior trim(plastic) is cracking computer was also replaced at the start of the second transmission repair. (under passenger seat).

4 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/14/1997

While exiting from highway consumer was trying to down shift from forth gear to third gear, but it would only go to second gear. Also, windshield wipers stopped working completely.

5 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/01/1996

Transmission valve defective.

6 Automatic Transmission problem

Transmission locks up between gears.

7 Automatic Transmission problem

Consumer notice while shifting vehicle into reverse vehicle was not gaining any power. Vehicle was service technician notice that transmission was over heat. Please provide further information. Ts.

8 Automatic Transmission problem

Premature failure of transmission. Vehicle slips and stalls while driving. Vehicle has had 4 transmissions in 18 months.
