Windshield Wiper/washer Motor Problems of GMC Sonoma - part 1

On our 1998 GMC Sonoma we have replaced the windshield wiper motor and board. The wipers still have a ghost in them and delay does not work most of the time and high speed when on low speed, erratic behavior on wipers. Won't turn on or off on occasion. Was there a recall on also on the passenger seat? the lever broke right off the first time we used it. Cheaply built handles. Please send me a list of recalls on this vehicle please for our own safety as this vehicle is driven daily on open highways.

Windshield wiper intermittent. Can cause severe visibility problems during bad weather conditions, almost resulting into a crash when trying to exit roadway.

Windshield wiper system is faulty. Usually the wipers continue running after being turned off, sometimes they stop while running, frequently they run continuously when in the "interval" settings, a few times they have failed to operate at all.

Windshield wiper motor failure wipers work intermittently and some times not at all. I took my vehicle to a repair shop they informed there had been recalls on this condition involving several gm vehicles including mine. When I took my vehicle to a gm repair shop they told me my vehicle was not included in the recall because it was the 4wd model and not the 2wd model I'm shocked that the same year same model but not 4wd is included. I would really like to know why my vehicle is excluded ? when it has the exact conditions of the others recalled.

The contact said windshield wipers were working intermittently. This has been an ongoing problem for six months. The vehicle has not been taken to a dealer for diagnostics on the problem. She has not made any arrangements for repairs at this time.

Had a problem with windshield wipers not working or working intermittently. I found problem to be the electrical plug on wiper motor circuit board to have fractured soldier connections. Resoldier connections cure problem.

Intermittently the windshield wipers malfunctioned. The windshield wipers engaged by themselves to the fastest speed setting when in the slow speed setting. On 3 separate occasions the windshield wipers quit working, but engaged again within seconds on two occasions. Then, failed to come back on the third occasion. This failure was due to a defect described in the windshield wiper recall 03v159000, but this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN.

When driving in the rain the windshield wipers failed, causing consumer to pull off the road. Consumer contacted the dealership, but problem recurred.

The caller complained about a windshield wiper motor problem. It will work in light rain, but not in heavy rain. He had to pull off the road. There was a recall on other vehicles, but this vehicle was not included due to VIN. Manufacturer said it was a blanket recall and the time has run out on it.

When driving at various speeds and without warning the windshield wipers would work intermittently. Dealer has been notified.

1998 GMC Sonoma 2wd has identical windshield wiper motor malfunction to already recalled 1997 Sonomas. Cracked solder joints in the wiper motor circuit board causes wiper failure. The 1998 Sonoma's need to be included in the gm recall.

Windshield wipers stop intermittently without warning. Latest incident was in heavy snow and visibility was lost. This is a very dangerous situation. The 1996 s-10 and Sonoma were recalled for this very same problem but no recall on the 1997. This needs to be addressed before someone is injured in an accident.

On several occasions the windshield wipers stop working. Was traveling through downtown dallas in heavy rain and traffic at a high rate of speed when the wipers stopped and I had to stop immediately on the interstate and wait for them to start working again. Took to a repair shop in oklahoma and had the connections cleaned and eventually re-soldered. Was told this is a common problem with this type of vehicle and will probably need to replace the wiper motor. Has there been a recall on this model and year?.

Windshield washer/wipers randomly do not work. Dearler says they can't fix a random problem. Appears to be the same problem as stated in the 1996 recall #98v150001.

We have a 1997 GMC Sonoma with a votrec 4. 3 x. Over 2 years ago, we started getting misfires. We tried everything we could think of, to no avail. In the past month I've put over $500 alone. I have been looking it up on-line, and have realized, I'm not the only one with this issue. There has even been a recall in California, but only there. Gm told me they have different gas out there. Another major safety issue has been the wiper motor failure, that had a recall. Gm told me my VIN # was not on the list, but I battle my wipers at least once a month. I have to yank the blades half way up the window before they grab and start to work. One more problem that I now know I am not alone on is the issue with dex-cool. We have flushed and refilled the system at least three times, only to have it gunk-up again. Please help me and all the other customers who got trapped with junk vehicles. We have had too many other failures to count!.

Consumer states was unable to keep windshield wipers working, consumer was also notified there was a recall, however was informed by dealer there was a recall, however recall was not applicable to consumer because of the VIN number mechanic stated the windshield wipers work intermediately resulting in the motor to malfunction.

Windshield wipers operate intermittently while in use. While driving in the rain, wipers will stop /start or won't stop after starting. Contacted dealer.

Windshield wiperss failed and work sparadically. Connection at plug to motor faulty. Dealer refuses to fix.

Consumer states during the last sixth months on several occasions the windshield wipers, when activated, work for a few seconds and then stop, causing a visibility problem, consumer has roated the wiper knob to high, turned it off, and slowed it down, neither of which relieve the problem, dealer stated motor needed replaced, however consumer feels that the motor was not the problem, so he is continuing to drive the vehicle as is. Serpentine belt failed and was replaced.

My windshield module went out and I was told that GMC had problems with their modules, I went on line and found out that the recall was stopped the prior year to my vehicle being built. I took it to my mechanic and the told me that even though the recall ended GMC still had severe problems with later model vehicle with the same wiper module defect. I called GMC and they could supply no explanation as to why the recall stopped even though the problems continued. Thanks john miller.

I called GMC and told them about the wiper motor problem, they said that my trucks' VIN number was not part of the recall that had been done on other 1996 GMC Sonomas of the same year. My truck has the same exact problem as the other 1. 2 million recalled s10 & s15 trucks but GMC corp. Says that it is not related. ( NHTSA recall #98v150001) I feel that the recall needs to be expanded to cover trucks of the same year that have the same problem. The GMC recall is for trucks build from 8-94 to 5-96. The recall needs to be expanded because several vehicles have been left out.

Windshield wiper motor sometimes fails to operate or continue to operate when switch is engaged.

Windshield wiper motor works intermittently, electrical problem related to positioning of motor(electric). I was told by an autoparts dealer that they have had a lot of complaints of bad motors. I know of two friends with similar vehicels (chevy blazer and chevy s-10 truck) who have the exact same problem. Wipers will work fine sometimes and then just stop in mid-stroke. I was driving in rainy conditions when first occurred. I moved wiring and the wipers would cut on and off, I found that it is the wiper motor housing and not the wires. Wedged a stick between wiper motor and housing and they worked for a while. This is a common problem specifically to this style of vehicle and potentially a very hazardous one too. If all of the auto parts dealers are acknowledging this is true maybe something should be done about it before people are killed because of windshield wiper failure!.

The 1996 Chevrolet s-10, was recalled for the windshield wiper motor, and the description of problem explains mine perfectly. When I tried to turn them on, they would come on and go off for no reason. Finally, they just quit working. It's extremely dangerous to drive with no wipers in the rain.

While driving and using windshield wipers they will quit without a warning. Some times wipers will never operte at all.

Windshield wiper motor failed while in use. Bad solder joints on pcb is the cause. Bad pcb design.
