Fuel Pump problems of the 1999 GMC Suburban

Five problems related to fuel pump have been reported for the 1999 GMC Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2006

Fuel pump/connector failure. Initially engine would shut down intermittently. On last occasion, vehicle engine shut down resulting in loss of power steering, power brakes, etc. Would not restart. Former gm mechanic told me that he witnessed this problem numerous times and found most cases involved failure of electrical connector or ground connection at fuel pump.

2 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2005

The consumer stated that while driving with a quarter tank of gas the vehicle stalled without any previous warning. Then, it completely died. The consumer pushed the vehicle to the side of the road. The consumer was finally able to restart the vehicle after several attempts, and drive home. The next day he inspected the connection to the fuel pump. He discovered there was low voltage to the electrical assembly area. Nhtsa recall campaign 05v155000 was issued involving the same type of vehicle. This vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN, but was experiencing the same problem as indicated in the recall. The consumer called gm ,who suggested a diagnostic test. No repairs have been made due to the expense of the repairs. (11/22/05) updated 01/10/07.

3 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2003

Failure of fuel pump on 1999 GMC Suburban with 45 gallon tank, 350 engine. Left vehicle in non starting situation.

4 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2000

While driving down road at an extended amount of time vehicle will shut off. Took to dealer , and they did a program upgrade. Consumer continued to have problem, but dealer couldn't duplicate the problem.

5 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 10/01/1998

Fuel pump has been replaced two times due to loud noises. Also, transmission was replaced because it did not shift gears automatically, rough switch. Abs brakes did not operate properly, causing extended stopping distance. In addition, two tires replaced in the rear due to vibration of vehicle. Dealer contacted, and are attempting to remedy the problems that exist. Provide further information.
