1 Tire Blowout problem of the 1997 GMC Suburban

Failure Date: 08/23/2015

Pulled out of my driveway got up to speed of roadway that is 50 mph felt a vibration in the front end, slowed down it went away, so I started to speed up again to see if it came back, then boom my front passenger tire literally blew up, the tread separated and the tire almost blew completely off the rim. I temporarily lost control of the vehicle and skidded to halt on the side of the road tearing up a lawn and almost taking out a guard rail. The tire bent my front bumper and ripped my running board partway off. I am very lucky no other traffic was around me. . . I changed the tire to my spare and am now in the process of removing the rest of the cornerstones forme my truck, it's not worth the risk.

5 Tire Blowout problem of the 1999 GMC Suburban

Failure Date: 07/15/2002

Tires maintained properly. When towing 8000 lb. Vacation trailer, 80 lbs. Rear, 50 lbs. Front. (mfgr. Spec. ). Wheels equipped with tire sentry monitoring system which sound an alamr and blinking light on dash if tire pressure is lower than factory setting. While traveling south on hwy. 1999 near bakersfield, CA on a hot July afternoon (103 degrees) while towing 8000 lb trailer at freeway speed, the left rear Suburban tire suddenly began viberating viloently, started to flap, lost tread and the blowout (this all happend very quickly). - submitted claim for tire and damage to vehicle to firestone and was the claim was denied. They said the tire had been operated for an unknow period of time with insufficient air pressure to carry load (this is not true) and that the failure did not result from a defect in either materials or workmanship. Point of interest: the Suburban has been pulling to the right and I was going to have it aligned, however I replaced all 4 tires with michilins and now the truck does not pull to the right. I since have had the blowntire inspected by a tire dealer and they felt the tire was defective. - my next step is small claims court - however today I see there is a class action lawsuit against firestone on this very tire.

7 Tire Blowout problem of the 1997 GMC Suburban

Failure Date: 08/20/1997

I was driving on i87 in n. Y. At 65 mph, when suddenly the car started vibrating to the point that the dashboard was vibrating so much, that I thought it was going to break off. This happened for about 5 miles, at which point I heard a loud noise, like an explosion and stopped the car. I saw the right rear tire had lost all the rubber in the middle section. The tire still had air and it was resting on the steel band. It looks the same way as the other firestone tires. The next day I contacted firestone but they told me that it was not being recalled. When the tire blew it put a dent on my rear passenger door, dented the quarter panel and bent the exhaust pipe . (tiresize: 245/75/16)( dot number: tire size: 245/75/16 ).
