Got everything under the hood done n still have the same problem with it shut off while driving.
As I went to drive my Terrain we bought back in June or July. But for the absolute first time we needed to use the defrost/defogger button last week on October 20, 2022 and it wouldn't work. No lights came on to say it was defaulty. It also started to make our radio screen flicker when I tried to turn defrost on and it's continuously flickering and defrost doesn't engage on front windshield at all won't even melt snow or help defog when it's been raining or it's cold out. I almost wrecked my Terrain due to this problem. Now on my instrument panel says camshaft/crankshaft sensor says service stabilitrack and something about my awd system. All these happened within a week from trying to use my defrost. Also my instrument panel where it shows how fast I go flickers and it flickers on the rpm side as well. Noone has touched or looked it over since I have owned my 2010 Terrain. Everything was just fine up till I pushed my defrost button and then all the other stuff happened.
The oil consumption issue could cause vehicle to break down and GMC wants people to pay for test if used. Thats not right.
I bought the vehicle with around 86,000 mi - one owner, from dealership. The engine was making a noise within a couple of months. I have to change the oil every month because of the unusual oil burning issue. It died on me three times. The engine would slow down to a stop. I had to turn it off and back on. Later, after a cold day, I had an oil leak. I took it in and the mechanic said there is a problem with the pcv system and the car has had recalls in the past. I took it to the dealership but they said it was not covered. The diagnosis was rear main seal needs replaced. I found a special coverage bulletin from gm online where it said that certain locations/vins are covered because of the crankshaft rear oil seal needs replacement. Mine was diagnosed with this but when I called gm it said my VIN was not on the list. I have had issues with the vehicle since I bought it. Lots of engine noise, very high oil consumption/burn, and difficult to maintain. I would not recommend this vehicle, and I would encourage owners to file for a civil action if they own this type vehicle because all the reviews lead to the same issue. Gm should honor their values by either replacing the parts or recalling these vehicles. I will never purchase a gm vehicle again. The design is great but the engine and system are of very poor quality.
The defroster and heating stopped working. It blows out air but its cold air. I have always had to play with the control to get it to work but its never stopped working altogether until Friday, 11/25/2016. I live in the snow belt and I cannot defrost my windows to even see out of them. I see there was a recall in 2009 for my type of vehicle for the same type of issue. The controls for the door lock on the same panel also stopped working.
GMC Terrain have a recall 2010-2014 on a high pressure fuel pump that is faulty and the ecm unit is not accurate that cause the transmission to fail.
Uses way to much oil. We have to keep adding oil between oil changes. There is no leaks on the ground from leaking oil, it just burns oil fast. We have to check the oil at every fill up and most of the time we are adding about 2 qt. Or more.
The rear door air lift will not stay open when you press the button. On 2 occasions I hit my head because I did not know it had dropped down when I was loading and unloading groceries. The vehicle was parked in a parking lot and in my garage. It was not running. I found an entire page on the internet of many people having the same issues. It is called the Terrain forum. Net . This is very dangerous because some people have said they have had them dead fall. People could be injured or killed by the force of this door coming down on their heads. GMC has recalls on this problem with some of their other calls but not the GMC Terrain. . Read more...
I have had my vehicle checked twice this year regarding the loud exhaust noise and the strong fuel smell coming from my vehicle. They said that it is not a concern and I get migraines from the smell as well. I take my little sister to school everyday and the the fumes are overwhelming.
I was at a stop light, when I acelarated the vehicle would not move, I tried changing gears it would not go in drive or reverse, after a few minutes it did go into drive and I was able to make it into a parking lot at that time I parked and turned off the vehicle I waited a few minutes and started the vehicle back up and at that time it would not drive in either gear. I called GMC roadside assistance who could not get it to do anything either they had to put it on a lift tow truck to take it to the dealership. At this time I am waiting on the dealership to tell me what is wrong with it.
I know im not the only person who has this problem with their Terrain. . . I bought it brand new Dec 2010. . And now im trying to understand why the paint is peeling off the veh down to the bare metal. . It makes no difference that my veh has 70k miles on it. . . . Apparently the gm has a problem with the painting process at the plant where it was build. . . . . I found a Terrain forum on the internet where everybody can complain about their vehicles and low and behold there is a paint problem. .
Eperienced a complete shut down while driving; 1st accelerating to about 20 mph, restarted vehicle, drove about 4 miles to my home doing approx. 35 mikes mph, vehicle shut down again. Have appt with wilkens-Buick, glen burnie, MD on 8/28/2013; hope I make it without someone crashing into me because of the shutdown. Just had 20000 routine maintenance work done. V6-2994 3. 0l dohc.
My 2010 GMC Terrain 4 cylinder awd has made pinging noise and rattling with acceleration since new. The best gas milage it has ever gotten was 20. 9 mpg. The window sticker on the dealer lot stated gas milage range city/20 highway/29. . The expected range for most drivers was 24-34 mpg. I believe this range to be fraudulent, and should be investigated. I will be having the engine scanned on the dealer computer. A second failure of my vehicle is the power rear liftgate. It fully opens initially then starts to close on it's own, it cannot be stopped by force, until it closes completely. There is no safety feature that prevents closure while someone or thing is in it's path. This could critically injure or kill someone. The dealer states the hydraulic arm leaked oil & failed. I am awaiting parts for dealer to fix it.
Dash shade too short. The sun shines straight down over the driver and reflects on the instrument panel and causes a severe glare. This could be corrected with a 3 inch longer hood over the driver instrument panel or 6-9 tinted strip in the upper windshield. I cannot read the instrument panel which I think is a safety issue.
I purchased the vehicle 12/13/09. Beginning around 3/26/10, I first noticed that my hatchback was open when I went to get in to go to work, and it had been parked overnight. This has happened in the vicinity of 15-20 times since that date. I thought somehow I was accidentally pushing the release button on the key; however, I often would not have had the key in hand or in my pocket to do so accidentally. It last happened about 2 weeks ago, I walked out to my parked Terrain in the garage at my apartment, and the liftgate was wide open. Nothing has been stolen yet, but I am careful not to leave anything in it or at least in sight.
