The contact owned a 2018 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while driving and nearly coming to a complete stop in the right lane, another vehicle driving approximately 40-50 mph crashed into the rear of the vehicle, causing the contact to hit her face against the steering wheel, and the contact became unconscious temporarily. The contact stated that upon regaining consciousness, the contact noticed that the vehicle had moved to the grass by the left lane of the road, where traffic was going in the opposite direction. It was unknown whether the vehicle was involved in a second collision. A message advising that an accident was detected and inquiring whether 911 should be contacted was displayed. The contact stated that the air bags failed to deploy, and the front driver's side seat belt failed to retract as needed. A bystander opened the driver's side door to verify that the contact was safe. The contact noticed that she was bleeding significantly and was unable to move the right shoulder and the neck. The emergency units assisted the contact out of the vehicle. The emergency units placed braces on the contact's neck and placed the contact on a stretcher. The contact was transported to the hospital, where the contact underwent x-rays and CT scans. The contact was informed that she had sustained a concussion, lumbar injuries, a fractured nose, loss of taste and smell, laceration on the inner and outer side of the bottom lip, carpal tunnel on the right hand, severe whiplash, laceration on the right shoulder, and a cut behind the right ear. The contact was in the process of undergoing mris. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed and totaled, but was still under investigation. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed; however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was unknown.
I was driving back home when I suddenly heard a loud pop and my car seat belt immediately tightened up. I saw smoke inside the car and the screen in my dashboard said "airbag service" there was no air bag physical deployed in the car so I believe it happened internally. Now my driver seatbelt will not retract and the front passenger seatbelt will not come out.
The "service safety restraint system" warning light appears on the dashboard and warning chimes continually sound. To my knowledge GMC had a recall for this in 2018. I purchased the vehicle in 2021. I contacted GMC and told them this issue and they informed me that there are no recalls on the vehicle. My concerns being that airbags are fully functional.
Vehicle started stalling back in February 2023, service engine light started coming on and then we started getting a message that the sd memory card had been removed and this message has stayed on constantly along with the service engine light. I made an appointment to get the recalls fixed with the dealership that we purchased it from which is 50 miles away but was told the parts for the fuel pump and child restraints were not available at that time. They looked at the memory sensor card but could not find anything wrong and was told if the error message came back up to call them back, I know more got home and the message came back up so I called them back and they set me up with another appointment the following week. This time because the message only comes up randomly and it did not come up while I was there I was told nothing could be done but to call back when the message comes back and as soon as I got home it came up so I called them back, they made another appointment for the following week and this time the message came on when the tech drove it so they took out the sensor card and cleaned it and everything around it and said everything looks fine now but it still comes on, but was told due to them not having the parts for the fuel pump that we should take it to our closest dealership. On 6/15/2023 we took it to our local dealership and I was told they would need to order parts and the eta on it was 4 days out, they said they would call me when the parts came in, I waited until 6/22/23 and no one ever called me back so I called to check and the parts were still not in but would check on it and call me back, no one ever called and I still have not heard from anyone. The last time we took it up there the vehicle stalled, we almost got hit from behind and it kept dying and would barely start, it is now setting under my carport, we are afraid to drive it and I still have not heard from anyone. This all started in February 2023 and it is June now.
Issues with the passenger side seatbelt not pulling to lock. It's jammed off and on. Doesn't work.
Driver seat belt exhibits signs of fraying in area of belt hidden from view when not in use. When extended, hair-like fibers extend out, primarily from the car-forward side of the belt in the area coming out of the b-pillar and from behind the trim. It is available for inspection. Concerned that this may continue to degrade the integrity of the seat belt over time. There could be something sharp in the retractor, or flash on a piece of plastic trim hidden from view causing this. My understanding is that if there is a small nick on the edge of a safety belt it can tear across, and concerned that this condition could lead to a similar outcome over time and if the vehicle were involved in an accident. Upon taking to local dealership, was advised that this is a normal condition and not a concern. Advisor said technician told him that it is not fraying, it is a normal condition that can be exhibited by the belt fibers, especially towards the edges. They said the central portion of the belt is not exhibiting a similar condition and therefore not a concern. The fibers seem to have grown in quantity since vehicle purchase. I first recall seeing them during the pandemic, although became more concerned over time and finally took in prior to warranty expiration for review.
The front passenger seat belt locks on passenger and will not release unless it is completely unbuckled. It keeps doing this for no reason. This was brought to dealer’s attention one to two years ago and they said I would have to pay cost of repair since warranty was off even though I purchased an extended warranty with this vehicle. The service department claims to have taken it apart and cleaned it but could not find problem. The problem is bad since passenger has to unbuckle belt multiple times during a trip.
Seats ripped at seams. Seat belts came unattached at base and at buckel with a newborn baby in seat.
The safety restraint system warning keeps coming on and off as well as the air bag light. It happened months ago so I took it in and got it looked at and scanned. All the seatbelts were checked and the scan came back with nothing. Then it stopped for a couple months and now it has started again. Ive had 14 surgeries in the last little less than 4 years and I'm about to go into my 3rd back surgery since November. I cannot get into an accident and not have airbags as I've also had brain surgery 3 winters ago as well. I am disabled and do not have a ton of money either for fixes that aren't necessary but this safety issue is crucial to me. I see that many 2018s have been recalled for the exact same issue that I'm having however mine doesn't come up with that but it is happening to me so that should be included. I also need some direction if not as to why this is happening because I cannot afford to have a dealership, no less, replace every tiny little thing looking for the culprit at $150 an hour when I live on $1,200 a month and most goes to medical. Please advise on what to to or where to start. Thank you.
Started car in parking lot. Warning came on saying “service safety restraint system” and airbag illumination was on. Just notified salesman as I have only had this vehicle about 10 days. Bought it used. Unfortunately.
The contact owns a 2018 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while driving, the seat belt restraint warning light illuminated continuously while the driver’s and passenger’s seat belts were fastened. The dealer was informed of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 21,700.
I was in a pretty nasty single vehicle accident. I had my seatbelt on and it did not lock on impact as should. It was like I didn’t even have a seatbelt on. I had free range of motion which meant I was pretty much just being bounced around with the airbags and could of went through the windshield it was that bad.
The drivers side seat belt buckle breaks somehow and we are unable to buckle the seatbelt in the car. After the first time, I bought another brand new buckle, replaced it. After one week of use, it also locked up. I am not sure what is going on and why such a thing keeps happening, but it is not safe and needs to be fixed ASAP. Not everyone has $80 to spend once a week on a new belt buckle which should last a lifetime. This is beyond dangerous, since seat belts are mandatory and my wife being unable to use it can be a matter of life or death. This is her only means of transportation and we can't just park it and use another. I can't possibly be the only one. Thank you for taking the time to look into this matter. Please let me know if there is any further information regarding this matter.
While in park and driving, the passenger seat belt locks and will not unlock. You must unfasten belt and refasten it. It does this multiple times during a trip. This has occurred since 2020.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving about 35 mph, the vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle. The driver's air bag busted open, smoked and emitted debris but did not deploy. The service air bag light illuminated. The contact and a nine-year old child in a booster seat, in the back seat of the vehicle sustained injury that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was damaged and was driven to the contact's residence. The contact also stated that the driver's seat belt did not retract. The contact called the stan mcnabb Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram dealer, located at 200 n. Jackson st, tullahoma, TN 37388 and was told that the information would be entered in the contact's file. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
While driving, there is a random ding. No idiot lights come on this has been going on for over a month. Today I happened to look up and the passenger airbag light was flashing. As if stating there was someone in the seat. The only way to stop it is to have the passenger seat belt buckled while driving. This only happens while driving. It is very disturbing because I am not sure if I am in an accident if my passenger will be safe.
While checking the rear view mirror a 1998 chevy truck came tp a sudden stop on the highway, and I could not miss the truck the driver claimed he thought he had missed his turn, when my SUV collided with the truck. The powder came out but the airbags never did come out,and the passenger seatbelt locked.
Front seat belts won"t retract and get caught in door when closed and the plastic cover on the seat breaks and then it will not latch. This causes the seat belt to be inoperable. It then cannot restrain the occupant thus it causes a safety concern as well as violation in not wearing a seat belt.
Seat re-tractors don't retract and seat belt gets caught in door when closed. Door cracks plastic cover on seat belt cover which leaves a sharp edge that cuts your fingers when you try to buckle your seat belt.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that the seat belt did not retract. The contact called dondelinger Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac at 877-211-6240 (located at 2310 paul bunyan dr NW, bemidji, mn 56601) and was informed that the seat belt needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.
My air bag / seat belt keep light keeps coming on . Code b001b air bag passenger seat anchor pretension deployment loop. This is definitely a safety hazard that should have a recall.
Seat belt retractors fail to retract and belt clip gets stuck in closed door. Dealer fixed once but refuses to fix at their cost. I believe this is a serious gm defect and a safety hazard because a half open jammed door will not open.
Exhaust fumes are entering the vehicle through the air vents, gets worse when idling. Seatbelt does not buckle.
Tl the contact owns a 2010 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that the seat belt independently tightened and would not unlatch. The contact stated that they had to cut the seat belt. Penske Buick GMC of cerritos (18400 studebaker rd, cerritos, CA) was contacted, but did not diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.
The belt needed to fasten in my grandsons carseat in the middle of the back seat did not hold while making a sharp left or right turn. The seat slid over side ways. There is no upper stablizing device to keep the seat from tilting to the right or left. I live in ladylake and sometimes people pull out in front of you and while this happened to me and I had to vear to the right my grandson slid sideways carseat and all, scared my grandbaby.
We own a 2016 GMC Terrain. My wife rear ended a Ford expeditions. This low speed impact caused almost 17000 dollars of damage and the seat belt or air bags never went off. I would like to know if this is normal or is gm covering up faulty safety equipment.
Takata recall? on March 12, my wife and I were in a collision with another vehicle. We were on a city street in tulsa, oklahoma when we rearended another vehicle. It was a fairly minor accident at less than 40 mph, but my wife sustained severe injuries to her right eye and both arms. She broke the major bone in both of her arms right above the wrist area, and her right eye was lacerated and exploded from the socket. She has been through numerous surgeries for her eye and arms. She is currently blind in her right eye. Her seatbelt did not restain her from coming forward, and we still do not know what hit her in the eye. All of the airbags in the car exploded, and we believe that this might have caused her eye injury, but we are unsure as to why her seatbelt would have not restrained her from what caused the injuries to her arms and eye.
Front passenger seat belt chime comes on when there is nothing on the front seat or almost nothing on the seat. This has happened at least 1/2 dozen times or more. I can be driving and all of sudden comes on. It can scare one esp 1st time. You don't know what is happening. I thought I blew a tire or door came open. My attention was everywhere but on 65 mph traffic on freeway. Breaks one's driving concentration. Independent of temperature. Other problem I have is lots of wind comes in on passenger door. It is not aligned properly. Gm has tried a couple of times with no success. Very annoying and hard to hear radio etc. . 3rd problem is navigation, communication center,it keeps disappearing. It is giving me directions somewhere and then just disappears and resets. It has been replaced once. It has gotten me stranded more than once. I am a senior who relies on system. When it disappears, I am not always somewhere that I can stop to completely reset and reenter all the information again. I feel that this is a safety issue. I was on hwy every time and most of the time not in a remote area but not in area that I could stop. In CA. There are many areas you do not want to get off the frwy at. All instances above happened in the city areas while driving. Service was done oct 2015. None of issues resolved despite attempt. All are ongoing.
Belt side buckle plastic housing fractures causing spring mechanism to fall out. Mechanism now binds up allowing excess slack in seat belt while driving. Event occured during routine buckling of seat belt.
The front passenger seat belt chime comes on even when there is nothing or almost nothing in the seat. This mostly happens when the ambient temperature is above 45 degrees fahrenheit and either during a braking event or acceleration event (either from a stop or during an overtake menuver). It also occurs when the vehicle speed goes above 60mph. In all these situations the chime comes on at most in-opportune times while the vehicle is in motion startling the driver causing him/her to take the eyes off the road to look around what is going on with the vehicle. This issue has resulted in multiple near miss occurrances while I have my 15 month old baby in the vehicle! the issue started occurring in August 2015 (about 4. 5 months after I got the vehicle). The dealer says that this is a known problem with these vehicles and that nothing can be done to fix this. I have seen multiple posts on the internet about this issue with chevy equinox and GMC Terrain.
On various occasions when slowing down or turning, the engine will die. Front end accident going 55+ mph on a country road, hit a very large dip, airbags did not deploy, seat belts did lock up.
I was pulling into a parking spot on Monday night and just brushed the curb with the front passenger tire. After I came to a stop, the side airbags deployed. The service stabilitrak light comes on and off as well as all other dash lights flickering as the radio turned off and the power steering goes out.
I purchased my 2012 GMC Terrain from clay cooley in irving, TX on 01/05/2015 with an extended service contract. I have had issues with this vehicle ever since. I took the vehicle in for service and was told the service contract would not cover my issue and that the issue was caused by lack of maintenance, which is not the case as I maintain the oil in this vehicle and even had to purchase a new battery for the vehicle recently. I am attaching a picture of the condition of the battery shortly after the vehicle was sold to me to where I contacted my sales agent and he advised me to check my service contract. This car¿s engine repeatedly stops, especially when approaching a red light or stop sign or at the moment of acceleration. I have had to avoid many accidents due to people driving up on me because I should have been accelerating at the time but my car turned off. The battery would die on this car on a weekly basis which caused me to purchase a battery and there is still no progress in the vehicle. There are electrical issues as well as the lighting in the car gets dim when we are in the dark but bright when the sun is out. Also, the seatbelt for the passenger¿s side constantly rings sending a notification that the seatbelt needs to be latched, even when no one else or nothing else is in that seat. I fear that one day I may need that air bag and it might not work because the seatbelt appears to be faulty. Also, another issue, which is not necessarily a safety issue, but an extreme nuisance and also maybe an electrical issue is the car radio and volume will freeze at any given moment and the car has to be stopped and idle for a period of time before the radio is active and able to turn channels again. The safety issues for this car is real and I am in fear that I will get hit from behind due to the faulty engine.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that the drivers side seatbelt had a metal prong piece that fractured near the seatbelt that was causing the seatbelt to prematurely deteriorate and it was coming apart. The contact indicated that the belt buckle anchor may fracture at any time due to the failure. The vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer for further inspection and diagnosis. The contact was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 10v623000 (seatbelts). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 46,500. Dyd.
I was rear ended while attempting to come to a stop. The impact pushed me into the car in front of me. My seat belts locked and the air bag light deployed. But the air bag did not deploy (just the light).
Approximately around the high 4x,xxx miles the engine started giving me extended cranking issues. It would crank for 4-5 seconds and not start at all or start but idles really low like its going to die. I has done this countless amount of times, even caught it on video numerous times only because every time I bring it in for the starting issue I always get there is nothing wrong with your vehicle, have a nice day. It gets really frustrating when the wife and I daily drive it and it happens about 2-3 per week. At times when I turn off the car, it sounds like its still on for a few seconds and than turns off like when a building loses power. On another hand, over a month ago the dealership checked the oil and said I was really low on oil. But their's still nothing wrong with my vehicle they claim. And to make things worse the seatbelt sensor came on and stays on a few hours after I picked up my vehicle from the last visit to get it checked for this cranking problem. This is the worse vehicle I ever owned. I would not recommend the Terrain to anyone. Oh yeah, I also brought it too 2 different GMC/chevy dealers with no help from them at all. This is the last time I'll buy a GMC/chevy vehicle - built very poorly.
I was on the interstate in cincinnati, ohio when a deer crossed over the jersey wall onto the roadway as I was just beginning to exit. I hit the deer at a minimum speed of 45-50mph. My airbag did not deploy. Although I was unharmed I am concerned about the failure of the airbag to deploy given my speed and front impact. My vehicle has also recently had an intermittent issue with sudden loss of power that has been attributed to the stability control system. Given the recent rash of incidents surrounding GMC vehicles and the lack of recalls on the Terrain vehicle, I am reporting these incidents at this time as I am concerned that they may be indicative of broader problem with the Terrain model of vehicle.
My new 2010 gma Terrain will randomly display passenger seat belt is off while there is an adult passenger (+150 pounds) sitting there. In addition sometimes it has also caused an error code to appear and sometimes does not produce an error code. Additionally I have also received warnings on my dashboard that seat belts are not on and airbag errors. My dealership acknowledged that the airbag warning meant the airbags might not deploy in a crash and provided no fix, just a reset. This has occurred several times and I have to move my passenger to the back seat when this error occurs. I have also had the sensor replaced in my passenger seat with no change in what is happening. I have been told that the only notice they have about the passenger seat is that electronic devices can cause the airbag to be activated when no one is seating there. However that was not my complaint. Since my airbag problem started happening I have now also had the passenger light (and sounds) start randomly while I've been driving with no passenger present. My dealership told me I couldn't have any electronic device in the car on to fix that error. But I was told there is nothing they will do about my airbags at random times not working. Additionally I felt that having to turn off my electronic devices while driving is not fair, especially if I have passengers who want to use them. I have been terrified to drive with passengers present and have come close to being in accidents when my car randomly produces sounds for seat buckles (starting even after driving for 20 minutes and it doesn't stop). This has been recorded four times or so at the dealer but had happened at least a dozen times, even after I finally feel that it wasn't going to happen again. I have been told there is nothing to fix, even when my dealer sees the error codes.
