2015 GMC Yukon. Consumer writes seeking reimbursement for vehicle repairs related to safety recall.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2019

Car was parked in front of our house and combusted in the middle of the night while we were sleeping. Car was exploding and engulfed in flames. . . Completely destroyed via fire and the worst damage was in the engine compartment. Cause of the fire is unknown although based on research sounds like NHTSA campaign #14v007000 or 14v152000. Fire department extinguished the fire and police were on the scene.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2015 GMC Yukon xl. When the contact pulled into a fuel station, shifted into park, and exited the vehicle, it began to roll on its own. The contact's 12 year old son stopped the vehicle by depressing the brake pedal with his hand. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 121,000.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2019

While traveling down hill on long grades the transmission drops to neutral or very low gear and engine revs drop to idle. The grade break disengages and the vehicle free wheels and hence speeds up. The only way to re-engage the transmission is to excessively rev the engine. This is has been an intermittent issue over the last 18 months and I have not been able to replicate at a service center.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2019

I was driving up north in 4wheel drive and transmission cam out of gear I stopped the vechile and restarted now the transmission does not shift properly and steering is hard to steer and it goes in and out.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2019

The Yukon's automatic transmission can get very jerky when accelerating from a stop, especially when the engine is cold (first 10-15 mins of driving). City driving seems to be the main environment when the transmission jerkiness occurs. The jerkiness started subtly around 75,000 miles, and now at almost 100k miles, the issue has only gotten more severe. Accelerating from a stop uphill and around turns are times when it's more prone to jerk. The best way I can describe it would be a lag in gear shifting caused by some type of delay the car's electronic control system. The lag has occurred so violently at times, it feels like I've been in a rear-end collision. I would hesitate to allow babies to ride in this car due to their inability to brace when these jerks occur; there's definitely enough force to cause whiplash to a baby. I would say the jerk happens 2-3 times every trip, even if I slowly accelerate to prevent quick gear shifts from happening.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2018

At certain speeds my vehicle vibrates, like a grinding sound at speeds between 50-55. This is a safety risk because I have children and grandchild that frequently ride with me. I have taken my vehicle back to the dealership and they say it is no codes and send it back to me without fixing the problem. My vehicle has not been inspected by anyone except the gm dealership. I got my vehicle Nov. 2018 and this started happening between Dec. 2018 and Jan. 2019. My check engine light did appear and was flashing around this time. In 2019 I had to replace the rear shocks and I believe they are not working properly now.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

SUV shuttering and shaking while in motion on city streets and highway.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2018

Vehicle clunks or hard shift while shifting vehicle from park to drive, or park to reverse. Happens every morning or while transmission has cooled down. Dealer indicates there's no fix for this condition, not even a update to transmission software.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2018

1. When starting out for the day start Yukon, wait about 30 sec for the system to do self check, put foot on brake, put in gear the Yukon will jump forward sometimes and bang. 2. When driving and you are decreasing in speed, sometimes you will get a small increase in speed, then it will start slowing down, sometime easy or hard where it will push your body forward. 3. Driving time to merge with traffic, put your foot on the gas pushing down, the Yukon will start to increase in speed, then stops responding, (just for a few seconds) then it will go fast and bang or just this is bad because the other cars are coming up fast, there have been times I had to goto the right again and get out of traffic because it took to long to go. I have complained about this many times the techs would look at it, stating there are bulletins out on this same issue, they would go though and reprogram the trans, they would state drive it for 200 miles, and it should correct itself, and it would and be ok for a few months or longer, then start again take it back to dealer do the same thing, I ask them what's going to happen if I am out of warranty, then you will have to pay to have to reprograming its about $150. 00. I stated why will I have to keep paying for this issue, if its not a good fix, its a band aid fix. . . . . So I was told by a tech take off the negtive battery cable for 30 mins, tis should help you out also. Now take it in for a oil change ask if there is any new updates, we will check for you , yes we see that your trans temp sensor is bad and it will be $475. 00 I stated wait I have been complaining about this for years, now I am out of warranty I need to pay really. . . . No dont fix it yet, I am going to reach out to gm.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2017

Active fuel management system in 2015 GMC Yukon denali xl-- engine was running in traffic and stalled out at intersection making a turn. Dealership diagnosed as bent push rod, broken valve spring, broken lifter. This has been linked to faulty active fuel management system with GMC engines. There is an active service bulletin from gm concerning this problem. Under existing powertrain warranty, gm agrees to fix the broken engine components, but will not address the underlying root cause of the problem, the afm system. The gm customer service rep stated that it is not gm's current policy to address the afm system even though it is a known problem. The dealership service department agrees this is the problem. Documentation online from other consumers validates that this is a widespread issue. It is a safety concern because unless the afm system is addressed, there is a risk the engine will fail in traffic. I feel like gm is unwilling to address this issues because there is no easy, cheap fix and the problem is so widespread in its vehicles with afm systems. It is a potential public traffic safety concern as these engines age.

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2017

Brakes don't work well when traveling at low rates of speed. Stopping requires brakes to be pressed to the ground and still may not stop. I have almost had several accidents even after having the issue repaired last year. I've had the problem assessed at 3 different mechanics. I have had to throw my car into park to avoid hitting cars in front of me. Brakes fail while driving in places such as traffic jams, drive thru, school pick up, etc. This is a huge safety hazard and fear that my children may be hurt if this issue is not corrected by the manufacturer. Steering becomes nearly impossible when the brake issues occur. This is an ongoing problem for the last 1. 5- 2 years. Also, the tail lights continue to go out even after paying hundreds of dollars for replacements.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2017

I was recently in an accident at a stoplight. When I arrived at the stoplight something fell out of passenger seat onto floor. I put the truck in park, took off my seatbelt, leaned over to pick up item and put it back on the seat. I then put seatbelt back on and put foot on brake and put the truck into drive. It all happened pretty quickly and can't swear to the specifics but I think the truck may have "jumped" a little when I put the truck into drive and propelled me into the car in front of me at a very low speed. The reason why I believe this happened is that I had previously asked the local GMC dealer service center if there were any recalls or other reports on this type of thing happening because it happens with my truck. I had been experiencing this "engine jumping" upon putting it into drive issue for several months.

50 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2016

When approaching a toll booth on the mass turnpike, with several lanes merging, with the vehicle almost stopped,it downshifted to 1st gear and in the process lurched forward extremely violently to the point I almost crashed into the car merging in front of me-probably stopped short by six inches or less !!!.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2015

On repeated occasions (from 2015 to 2019) I have experienced sudden acceleration at low speeds and sudden jerking motions. The transmission and speed controls are unpredictable and dangerous. This is hazardous and may result in a loss of control. I have also experienced numerous issues with the brakes including a stuck caliper at approximately 42,000 miles. I reported these issues and numerous other issues to GMC corporate, tustin Buick GMC only to be told that it was a software issue and things are satisfactory and safe. GMC contends that the vehicle is fine and declines to assist with issues. This is an ongoing issue. The date below is approximate. The mileage is approximate on all entries.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2015

Replaced transmission with dealer 2 time.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2015

Wife and three kids in vehicle, stops on hill seems to have shifted into neutral. Goes backwards down hill flips over lands on roof. No injuries thank god! vehicle had been back for transmission recall twice, the last time they said they had to wait for parts. . . Mind you the vehicle is brand new. Someone needs to get these off the road now!.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2015

Very concerned about my 2015 Yukon XLT. The vehicle's gear shifted to a neutral of very low gear (not very sure) as I was driving down a long hill near birmingham, al. It felt like it went to first gear, but at the same time it did not slow the vehicle down, almost felt like the gear was grinding. The truck did not catch back into normal gear until the vehicle leveled back at the bottom of the hill. (it was extremely scary and worrisome ever since then, the transmission will not shift smoothly.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Our vehicle has a significant vibration in v4 mode when traveling between 45-65 mph and above. The vibration is also accompanied by increased cabin pressure. These issues are causing headaches, nausea, dizziness, and are further exacerbating my wife's multiple sclerosis. We also have a popping sound coming from the rear of the vehicle's suspension when turning that makes us feel unsafe. The vibration started right after we took delivery of the car and has only gotten worse. We bought the car in April 2015 and the issue continues unfixed to this day. The popping noise started about 3-4 weeks ago and it sounds like a suspension component. Our ac recirculating feature also does not work and it allows harmful exhaust smoke in.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2015

Transmisin problems we where driving around the city at at 30-40mph when the gears went crazy it accelerated by itself rpms went crazy it sounded like the transmisin had gears in pan loud grinding then also the seats dont vibrate with land departure it shows service lane departure last when drivi g at speeds lf 40-70 mph there is a strong vibration in front makes entire truck shake took to dealer rotated tires and balanced allignment also and problem still there idk what to do.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

The new 2015 vehicle freezes up in full time 4wd mode and will not shift out. The dealer indicates that it is a "known problem by gm" and that they are "working on it". Their fix at this point is to have you run the vehicle in 2wd mode which is an obvious safety issue during our winter months as it is then a rear wheel drive vehicle being driven on icy roads. The other fix is to run it in 4wd mode but turn it into 2wd mode every time you turn the vehicle off. Obviously, many drivers will forget to do this and therefore my family at times is just running it in 2wd mode thereby incurring a risky driving situation. Despite numerous discussion, I have not been able to get any information on when the vehicle will be fixed.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2015

With all windows up, vehicle exhibits a buffeting / pressure sensation that can be felt predominately in the ears between 30 and 50 mph. Similar to when only the rear passenger windows are down in many vehicles. I second the fact that after any amount of time at these sustained speeds it begins to cause dizziness, ear pain, and headaches. Gm forums are flooded with complaints. This vehicle obviously was manufactured with a significant, known flaw that they cannot currently fix. This should absolutely be a safety issue strictly based upon the physical symptoms onset by the feeling within the vehicle.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2015

The contact owns a 2015 GMC Yukon. While driving 35 mph, all the warning lights illuminated and the four wheel drive low independently activated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the body control module needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the body control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 5,000. The VIN was unavailable.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2014

After owning the 2015 Yukon denali for 6 months, I have to say this vehicle has its flaws. The 4wd system is in for service already after 9000 miles. Not the kind of quality I would have expected on an $80,000 SUV. At the moment, the vehicle is only a 2 wd system and seems very difficult to drive and turn. Also, the intellilink software is very "buggy" and needs many updates. On several occasions, the entire touchscreen will go blank while driving down the road. This is cause for concern and is a major driving distraction.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2014

I was backing out of parking space in the mall parking lot when the service light came on. It stated service 4wd. The truck was very hard to steer and wouldn't change into 2 wheel drive I was 40 miles from home and burned over a 1\4 tank of gas. With less than 6000 miles I must say this isn't how I expect a $60,000 truck to perform.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2014

I just completed a claim for my 2015 Yukon denali, NHTSA id #: 10643049 and read that almost the same exact issues are going on with the 2015 chevy tahoe models, see: NHTSA id number: 10638437, 10633519 and 10631583. When will gm see there is a pattern and issue a recall for this transmission issue? in all cases these render the calls un-drivable and having to have them towed.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2014

When the vehicle goes into 4 cylinder mode and you hold the speed steady or give it a little gas it starts to vibrate you can feel the vibration in the steering wheel and on the front console give it enough gas to make it go into 8 cylinder mode the vibration goes away.
