Service trailer braking system alert intermittent & ongoing for months. Electrical fault? possible fuse problem? stranded with kids because car wouldn’t start. Later conducted diagnostics on battery and starter, both normal.
The vehicle main information cluster randomly goes in and out and now has completely stopped working. This is the information display that shows park, nuetral, drive, reverse, fuel gauge, digital mph and other information such as oil tire pressure, turn signals, forward collision. Just knowing if the vehicle is in park reverse or drive is a huge saftey issue. This seems to be a common problem on gm vehicles and I wcan't seem to find a recall issued for the saftey factor that the vehicle can be assumed to be in park and it's actually in reverse. The first time I noticed this problem was sept. 05, 2020 but it had reset when I restarted the vehicle. The problem would resurface occasionally but always came back on when restarting the vehicle. But know it seems that restarting the vehicle is not fixing the problem and the screen has been blank for the last 3 days.
Transmission shudder, shifting hard, other transmission issues.
Transmission failed at 100,000 miles stalling vehicle brakes pushing back on me.
I bought the vehicle in October 2024 ever since then I have been trouble with the differential, the automatic starter doesn't start the vehicle unless you are at least one feet away from the vehicle. I drove to work when I got off and got in my vehicle my check engine light was on. The vehicle was saying there was an issue with the battery, antilock braking system. I bought an extended warranty up to 150,000, I currently have 63,400 on my vehicle. Empire Buick GMC of white plains has not been honoring my warrantee, I had to rent a car to get back and forth to work because of fear of riding the nyc subway.
I was driving my car and it started making "clanging" and "banging" noises and jolting/jerking forward. It was scary to drive because of the noise and the jerking foward. I was afraid that my car was going to just stop working, I would get stuck/stranded somewhere or my car was going to blow up. I brought it in to the dealer two times. The first time they thought it was the battery so they replaced the battery but that didn't fix the problem. The second time I left it there for days and they told me that I needed a new transmission. The problem was reproduced and inspected by them. There were no warning lights or messages prior to the failure. The problem started on approximately January 6, 2025. Online, I have read from other sources that 2017 - 2020 GMC Yukons are know to have transmission problems. My car only has 58,000 miles on it, has been serviced consistently, and should not need a new transmission at this low mileage point. ( 150,000 to 200,000 is the norm for transmission replacement).
I was taking my client to school. I stopped at the stop sign. When I pushed gas pedal to go, my truck did not go, it strained did a big jerk then went. The next morning it did the same thing & later on that day, it did it again. Two days later I had to stop at red light. When the light turned green I pressed the gas pedal & nothing. It did not go at all. I turned the ignition off and back on twice & put it in drive still did not go but was slowly going backwards. A by-stander stopped to assist me getting my truck out of traffic.
I am submitting this complaint regarding a persistent and significant transmission issue with my 2017 GMC Yukon denali, which I purchased in June 2024. The transmission has been malfunctioning, causing the vehicle to jerk and hesitate, particularly during acceleration. This component is available for inspection upon request. Safety concerns: this issue poses a serious risk to my safety and the safety of others on the road. The jerking and hesitation during operation can result in delayed acceleration or unexpected speed changes. These problems have occurred while merging into traffic and driving on highways, creating hazardous situations where immediate and reliable vehicle performance is critical. Reproduction and inspection: the problem has been reproduced and confirmed by an independent mechanic who inspected the vehicle. The diagnosis identified a transmission malfunction, which appears consistent with reports from other owners of GMC Yukon models. However, the vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. Warning symptoms: there were no warning lamps or error messages displayed prior to the onset of the issue. The jerking and hesitation began soon after I purchased the vehicle in June 2024 and have progressively worsened over time. I have discovered that GMC has issued recalls for similar transmission issues in later Yukon models (2021 and 2022). However, despite widespread complaints, earlier models like my 2017 Yukon denali have not been included in these recalls. Given the safety risks associated with this transmission defect and the frequency of similar complaints from other owners, I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter. Prompt action is essential to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers in affected vehicles and to hold the manufacturer accountable for addressing this defect.

There was a pump in the heart of the transmission. The dealer said told me that was leaking fluid. Apparently this was a faulty hose within the transmission which leaked fluid in the transmission. Therefore, my transmission died. This was a severe I could have been a very dangerous situation if my kids had been in the car. I’ve had to pay almost $8000 for the transmission to be fixed and yeah I see that on the line there was some sort of recall but my dealership is saying there was not. I bought this car brand new and I’ve had it for seven years. I’ve never had an issue with the transmission on any of my vehicles ever.
The rear lift gate on the Yukon xl has the automatic sensor underneath the trailer hitch that you can swing your foot under to open or close. Twice, while loading groceries, I have had it close on my head, and this time with concussion symptoms. This also happened to my elderly mother.
Ac stopped blowing cold air while driving.
My acceleration is sticking. . Have 11322 miles when I accelerate to get on freeway gas pedal gets stuck . . Had to put it in neutral.
Weld on ac condenser is leaking and now I have no ac.
The air condition lines that feed the rear compartment of the vehicle rub above the rear tire and put a hole in the line. The cost to replace was $2,000. Bad design.
Consistent with NHTSA special coverage adjustment 17336, the a/c condenser began leaking in my 2017 GMC Yukon xl. I am filing this complaint for NHTSA to consider extending the mileage limit for the special adjustment. Unfortunately, this occurred at approximately 80,000 miles, or 8,000 miles after the special coverage adjustment. It may have, in fact, occurred sooner than 80,000 miles. I noticed the problem at the end of may 2023, having not engaged the air conditioning unit since on or about October 15, 2022. During that time, I probably put 8,000 miles on the vehicle. The problem was confirmed by wilkins automotive in glen burnie, MD. They provided an estimate of $2,600 for parts and labor to fix the problem. When I contacted gm and mentioned the special coverage adjustment, they offered me "400 or 500" gm points, or the equivalent of a few oil changes. I ultimately had it repaired at a reputable independent repair shop for $1,050. Fyi, the gm dealer quoted more than $600 for the freon. While freon is expensive item, the independent repair shop charged me just over $300.
Ac stopped blowing cold air. Took it to the dealer and they are saying based on where the leak is it needs a new compressor. There is a recall / special coverage for other GMC 2015-2017 for this exact issue.
Ac just stopped working at 100,000 miles.
The paint on the hood is peeling/flaking and is degraded. Right air shock is leaking causing the vehicle to continually pump up. I have the tow package, and with the air shock leaking, it does me no good. My air conditioner has not been cooling for a while. I started noticing it when it was hot in December, 2022. Would have thought it was a simple leak. The port valves have been changed. Air is still not blowing cold. My vehicle uses the r1234yf which is very expensive per can. After spending $72,000 on a vehicle, you would think that it would not be failing so soon. I understand 1) there is a class action lawsuit regarding the peeling/flaking of the paint; 2) that the ac condenser has a recall and also, the "leaky" air shock; however, my VIN is not included in any of these recalls. Upon the pleading and begging for recall information on brake lights and the brake system, those after sometime, were actually fixed by the dealer. I feel like I purchased a lemon. This was supposed to be my forever vehicle. To make matters worse, my vehicle display freezes when you are driving down the road, which includes while you have navigation on, I guess I will just get lost. I have had warnings about parking/collision alert just not working and will not let you push the button to turn it back on. I am not understanding why all of what is happening. I work everyday and have to take off work to take it to the dealership. I have never been so disappointed in a gm product, my vehicle is a piece of crap. I have an appointment at the dealership on April 19, 2023, we will see where this will take me.
2017 Yukon denali manufactured in 2016. It requires the exact same repairs as the 2016 service bulletin n192291660. My transmission wiring harness must be replaced including the gasket and filter. The global safety feild investigation dcs5461 only included 2016 and not car manufactured in 2016 and labeled as 2017. I have the exact same error codes p0711. The global safety field investigation was issued in July 29, 2020.
Unknown 4 times in the past 6 months, while parking the vehicle (turning into a spot, left or right) or slowly turning to pull up to a security code box, the car completely begins to lose power in drive, and has lost power while in drive twice. The dash begins to flicker to the point that you can't decipher which error codes are showing up. Most recently, the trailer brake service message was on before it died. We were not towing anything, did not have tow mode on, or anything like that. The parking sensors were on for all these instances. . . Regardless if we were parking or not. I can't confirm if that is the issue or not. It was pretty dangerous when I was pulling into my parents driveway along a busy road when the car did this before I was completely off the road. . . With my 3 young children in the back 2 rows. I know the battery is new. I did have the dealer look at the brakes about a month ago, because I felt they were soft. They said they were fine. They and myself checked the reservoir for brake fluid low. Was in normal range. Starter was replaced in March time frame. I feel this is related to the factory trailering system wiring harness or something.
Service trailer brake system.
I report years ago the seat belts wasn’t work, also all time I report with GMC vibrations and stops power at roads or low power to go in the freeways some times are to , and screen for gos and radio wasn’t work, this was a bad car . I take some videos but the agency try to charge me to check the car. Al of those put my person or others person in a risk because I lost the power in the middle of the road also, 2 of the seats belts are not working 1 of those is for my child, and the screen for gps can make me crazy at roads the system report construction or objects at road and I decrease the velocity in roads and the car was behind me slow or the screen jump from gps to radio or news or whatever some times the touch doesn’t work and I was lost in the roads driving around. The last thing is the vibration went I use the brakes to stop the car is shaking this was my first new car and is bad car and unsafe car.
Air-conditioning condenser failure (special coverage adjustment 173326 air conditioning condenser (combi-cooler) refrigerant leak) according to gm they say my VIN is not on the list. . . However, I'm having the exact same issue on my 2017 Yukon with 38k miles on it.
My husband and I were driving down the freeway with our three children when without any warning, we heard a loud explosion and what felt like something hit our vehicle. There were no other cars near by. When we pulled off the freeway into a gas station to look at the vehicle the sunroof had a huge hole in the center. The remaining class attached to the vehicle was all shattered. There was shattered class on the closed shade. We didn't know what happened. It was very traumatizing. We thought someone threw something at us or something had fallen on the vehicle. If the sun shade wasn't closed, glass would have entered the vehicle and could have caused injury to us or our children in the back seats.
My 2017 GMC Yukon’s transmission is defective. The SUV will jerk and jolt when shifting gears. It is extremely unsafe to be driving when you need to release the gas pedal and press down again in order to shift properly. This causes an even more sudden jolting. This is extremely unsafe as a family vehicle especially when you have a newborn. I ask a recall be submitted since I see several reports of a similar issue with the 2017 GMC Yukon.
We took the car into the dealership and complained about the ac and the vehicle being new and they said it was a common problem with this vehicle and offered 10% discount.
My car a/c has a leak at the condenser, this is a defect known by GMC, they only extended the warranty up to 60,000 miles and 72,000 on Cadillac, my Yukon actually has 71,500. The repair for the GMC defective vehicle a/c is extremely costly to replace the defective parts and overpriced labor.
Defective radiator leaks r1234 freon.
The rear tail-gate has come down by itself when putting items into or taking items out of the back of the car. It has happened at least six times and without warning. It has happened in our driveway and in parking lots. Vehicle was parked and turned off at the time. This can hurt or kill an adult or child. I'm going to report this to the dealer at the next service visit, but I also wanted to report it here because you are the in charge of the publics safety. There is another individual that has reported this same problem. Thank you!.
While parked and running with no driver in the vehicle, the vehicles key fob was locked in the car by a passenger exiting the vehicle. The passenger, a child, exited the vehicle and pushed the "door lock" button and then closed the door, locking it while running with the key fob in the vehicle. No warning alert noise was emitted and the vehicle did not automatically unlock the doors as designed. The weather was approx. 80 degrees. This hazard is not suppose to occur and poses a high risk of causing harm or death to an unsuspecting passenger. The hazard mitigation for this event failed.
This happened 5 years ago but I never reported it. GMC 2017 Yukon. I put my SUV in park, and entered and exited it several times while parked in my driveway. When I went to grab my purse (standing at drivers side door, reaching for purse on passenger seat) the car rolled. I was on a sloped driveway. The car rolled backwards, and I tried to jam it into park more strongly, but it just made a grinding noise and kept going. I was knocked over by the car door, pulled under the car and ended up having my legs run over by the car. I sustained injuries which affect me to this day. I was transported to the hospital by an ambulance after a 911 call, so I presume there is a police report. I was injured and dazed. This happened on sept 14, 2018. I am only reporting it now since I never thought about doing so before I read an article today about cars being recalled for this problem. If other people have my model of car and this is a problem, I would want them to know. I was thinking maybe I hit the gear shift with my purse and knocked it out of park, but this should not have happened without the brake depressed. I was standing next to the drivers side door when this happened. I did have the car taken to the dealership to be examined, and they said it was ok, but could not really explain how this happened. I still have this SUV but am very cautious about any situation where the car could roll when in park and cause injury. The car crashed into a tree and that stopped the rolling. Has there been other reports of this happening with this model of car? I would like to know, because if there is a problem that has come to light in this, I will get a different vehicle!.
Any vibrations or changes in road surface at slow speed or at highway speeds causes a change in cabin pressure, which causes discomfort in ears as well as ears popping. This "buffeting issue" has been brought to a dealers attention, but they say that its normal with gm's larger SUV's. It's a design flaw and or manufacturing flaw that gm should step up and take care of.
Vehicle fire. Investigation revealed point of origin was in left rear tail light assembly. Cause determined to be an electrical failure. Vehicle was station, had not been driven and was parked in attached residential garage. Fire destroyed vehicle and extended to residence. This report is being made by the county fire marshal. Vehicle owner info is joseph c. Lavecchia, 10 long hill road, newton NJ 07860.
While driving at various speeds, the vehicle dash displayed numerous and random error messages: (wording may not be exact) service front collision system. Front radar blocked. Front collision system unavailable. These messages indicated a problem with the forward collision avoidance system. The weather on the particular day varied. Errors occurred at various speeds. This hazard can cause serious harm if the sensors detect an imminent forward crash in error and apply the brakes in traffic. This dangerous situation is likely to result in serious personal injury or death. The root cause was determined to be related to an additional failure mode identified in the oily substance leaking from the control box mounted on the front windshield. This oily substance was identified by the vehicle owner and reported to the dealer.
