41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2022

I was stopped at a red light in the left hand turning lane and when the light turned green I proceeded to accelerate and the engine would rev but the car would not move forward so I continued to push on the gas when the car jolted forward violently. I am lucky no one was in front of me because this would have cause a car accident. Turns out the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced which is a common issue for gm however they never owned up to it and refused to pay to for the cost of the replacement and I paid several thousands out of pocket. This is a major safety concern and could be potentially life threatening. Gm should recognize this as a recall and take ownership of a failed transmission with less than 100,000 miles.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2022

My vehicle began shuddering during acceleration and would violently jerk forward after gas pedal was engaged with decreased power in forward acceleration and increase in rpm. This last a couple of weeks. Now, my vehicle is completely broke down and at a gm certified service center. The service manager states torque converter completely went out and the transmission is burnt up. The mileage is at $61,000, so gm warranty won’t cover it and the company that holds the extended warranty I purchased hasn’t been able to be successfully contacted. There is a “service” bulletin but no recalls and a class action lawsuit (that I’m not a part of) but no recall. My vehicle completely lost power going 50mph on a busy road without warning. This needs to be a recall due to this dangerous circumstance.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2022

Had the torque converter replaced at around 58,000 miles because of shutter in transmission. At around under 100,000 miles I called the dealership back up because the shutter is back again and now my new torque converter is bad. They said they only had a 25,000 mile warrantee on the new converter and I was out of my replacement window for warrantee. Everything online says torque converters can last well over 150,000 miles and sometimes even the entire life of a vehicle. I have now had two replaced. By searching online for info about this it is clearly a known problem with these vehicles and GMC isn’t doing anything about it.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2022

The transmission failed while merging and almost caused a collision. After a complete transmission replacement, the fuel injectors failed causing the same issue. Gm extended fuel injector warranty due to the number of similar issues, but not in my state.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2022

My transmission does not engage properly. From a starting position when I step on the gas the transmission lags and when it catches it slams / bangs into gear.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2021

My car is not shifting right. I took it into GMC, and they said they corrected it. I have taken in two times for this issue already. Today I almost was in a car accident because the car would not shift properly and it shoved me forward like a car hit me from the back. The car is not shifting properly at all. And now it’s making a muffling sound and it’s like stuck in a gear. I pulled over and I parked and then I reversed and then I went to hit the gas again to try to go slowly and it jolted forward again. This is serious and needs repaie.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2021

Car is shaking when accelerating. Feels like it will cause more damage.

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2021

We were on the freeway with my 4 small children. The freeway speed is 75 mph. The car had been jerking and hard shifting for over a week and I had it scheduled with a mechanic. As we were driving on the freeway, it lost total power as cars were going to the left and right around us. I was barely able to get it to the side of the road without being hit. This could have been tragic! I took it to the mechanic and the transmission is shaving a lot of metal (that was in the bottom of the pan). I have had to pay to have a whole new transmission redone. This is absurd with a car that is only 4 years old.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2021

The contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon denali xl. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact was alerted by other drivers that the taillights were inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed as a power train failure. The driver’s and passenger’s side taillights were replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The contact was referred to NHTSA to file a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 131,000.

50 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2021

Driving on city streets at approximately 45-50 mph the transmission began shifting erratically and made significant squealing noises. After stopping, the transmission could not be shifted to another gear and was stuck in drive (d) for approximately 30 minutes. After evaluation from a professional auto mechanic, these transmissions were equipped with the incorrect fluid type from the factory that has since been taken off the market. The transmission needed to be replaced at ~99,000 miles.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2021

About 500 miles past the original powertrain warranty of 60,000 miles, the transmission fluid temperature sensor failed. I know this because an engine light came on displaying p0700 and p0711 and the gauge on the dash is erratic. I did research, and the transmission for these vehicles model gear 2015 and 2016 have several issues including this one as outlined in special coverage n192291660 which extends the coverage for this issue to 120,000 miles. If GMC has the same issue with the previous year transmissions and knows about it enough to issue a special coverage, they should do the same for the 2017 models.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2021

The navigation and infotainment fails on a regular basis. Cannot use touch screen when it fails. Florida dealer said nothing wrong. The screen will turn to a clock without touching it. Cannot use navigation on many days. Had to locate a new doctor and the navigation failed! happens when stationary or in motion. This started in may 10, 2018 through today, February 17, 2021. It is ongoing daily.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2021

Car struggled to start when I started it. Idle was/has been really shaky. Engine light came on. I got a diagnosis from 2 companies for my engine. Both said I needed to replace all 8 fuel injectors. GMC has an extended warranty to cover these issues, but it is not available for my state of utah. Here is the code for reference for Yukon #n182198000. My car is a Yukon xl 2017 that needed fuel injectors at 85,000 miles! how is this okay? the repair cost $1,990. 28. The power train warranty has been changed for 2016 and 2017 GMC vehicles so that it is now 60,000 miles or 5 years. Mechanics have reported that gm has changed the way they are building engines in order to reduce costs, but it appears that consumers such as myself are bearing the brunt of the costs. I would appreciate if the extended service warranty could be extended to all states in the u. S. Vs. Those who have mandated it because of legislation or legal enforcement.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2020

Brake problems when starting brakes loose vacuum pressure still no fix after recall. 2nd check engine light came on at about 36,500 miles fuel injectors defective 3rd transmission problems valve body defective paid over 85,000 and this SUV its not worth it defective all defectives under 43,000 miles.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2020

Vehicle has hard shift from park. Most often when first driven of the day but also occurs when stopping for redlights or stop signs while traveling.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2020

My 2017 GMC Yukon denali continues to have a very loud shudder sound as you accelerate.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2020

Transmission is acting sporadic and causing delay in response to acceleration. Can be very dangerous when entering crowded intersections/ roadways.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2019

Beginning around 56,000 miles the transmission started lurching and stuttering at slow speeds. It is worse when cold but never quite goes away. Dealership kept it for 3 days and felt it but said all was within normal range. Beginning around 65,000 it started stuttering when trying to accelerate while in motion, such as on the highway when trying to pass. This is not only annoying but dangerous when you can't get the power you need when needed because the transmission can't decide when to shift.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2019

Driving my vehicle in winter weather conditions, in automatic 4 wheel drive option. I turned the corner by my house on a city street going no more than 7 mph. I was tapping the brake as I turned. I'm not sure what really happened as I was braking (the brakes seemed weird; kind of like abs), but my vehicle slid and hit the curb on the street I was turning in. This is kitty corner from my house. My right rear tire drove up onto the curb and half way onto the sidewalk, before going back off. I drove right into my garage from there and the vehicle was making a weird noise. My whole tire/wheel was bent at an angle with the bottom going inward. The tire and wheel did not have any damage. There were scrapes on the hub cap. We took the tire off and saw that the half shaft had snapped right in half. After looking at this, there was bubbling around it. It seems that the way this was manufactured is not in anyway safe. Thankfully, I was right by my house. If I had been going any faster in winter weather conditions, who knows what could have happened if I slid into something else going faster. I am glad my wife and kids were not in the vehicle. I would think this would be covered in the powertrain warranty; 5-year/60,000. One person with gm stated it was included with the 3-year/36,000 option. Our mileage is barely over at 36,352. The dealership I took it to, stated they will not budge over 36,000 miles. I believe this is a huge safety issue and that it should be covered no matter what! this shouldn't have happened when there was no damage at all to the tire. How could something like this just snap in half? it just doesn't seem right! this vehicle was expensive and apparently built very cheap!!! we just had a recall fixed too! we have only paid to get it towed to the nearest dealership, which is in the next town over about 15 miles away. My pics are more than 5mb. They are 7+mb.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2019

Transmission went out at 88k miles. My sister in law also has a 2017 bought from another state and it went out at 79k miles a week after mine. Passenger side tail light works if you push on it then randomly goes out (wiring/electrical issue). Of course the drivers side tail light is the only one on recall. Cruise control set itself at over 100mph and rapidly accelerated until I hit the brakes. I received a recall for the breaking system specifically for my VIN number that needs to be fixed now that my transmission is complete.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated that when attempting to engage in reverse or drive, the vehicle hesitated, also stated that a vibration from under the vehicle was present. . No warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, they determined that the transmission needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired by the independent mechanic. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure . The approximate failure mileage was 121,000. Bp.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2019

Everybody was telling me not to buy a 15 or 16 GMC denali so I because they known to have transmission problems so for my thanksgiving gift I brought a brando 2017 Yukon 8 passenger less in 2 years now the transmission has gone badd took a to the shop I need a brand new transmission I do not have $3800 to replace the transmission I feel it should be a recall on this vehicle you can feel free to reach me 7342312598.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

Transmission issue that makes the vehicle to not accelerate and then surge when you pull up to at a stop light, stop sign, on highway, or in traffic. Not safe going to end up hitting somebody or something. GMC dealerships say it is a known issue with no repair.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2019

I have taken it in to the dealership several time for inspection. The first time involved a repeated vibration while driving. The resolution was to change or flush the transmission fluid to get rid of any metal shavings. Since then I've taken it back into the dealership twice with reports of jerking, a delayed start when accelerating, and most recently a lurching when shifting between reverse and drive. Each time they have said this is normal.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2018

Shudder under light, constant acceleration at 35mph to 55mph, rpm under 1,500. Uphill grade it is accentuated. Shudder occurs for 1 second across whole vehicle, reoccurs every few seconds at a constant interval. Seems to be same issue with all 8l90 transmissions from gm/chevy/cadi.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2018

Transmission shifts are very rough in slow traffic with as much as one to two second delays in shifting into gear with a loud thump. It is so rough that it feels like someone may have ran into the your back bumper. It is also bad enough that it startles the driver and could be a safety issue. Gm is saying that this is normal for this eight speed transmission. If my car, the one I'm driving now, had this same problem I would definitely replace the transmission. This is a 2017 denali with less than 5000 miles on it. Online there are many complaints about this and it seems that gm is trying to wait the public out now that the new vehicles have a new ten speed transmission. The dealer told me they could not fix the problem and we would have to live with it. Again, this to me is a major safety issue.

67 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2018

When traveling at low speeds (10-20 mph), I have continuously experienced "lunging" and "jerkiness" with my transmission for over 2 years now. Despite approximately a dozen separate evaluations and/or repairs by gm-certified technicians, the problem continues to exist. I am told that the issue is normal and that I must live with the issue as being normal. Not only am I concerned about the ongoing maintenance cost, but the safety of myself and passengers should the vehicle strike an object or person accidentally. According to various online sources, there are hundreds of gm owners who are experiencing similar issues, and even a class action law suit has been filed. However, there has been no acknowledgement or meaningful resolution to the problems.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2017

I purchased my 2017 Yukon denali in 2017. Since the day I bought it I have noticed a problem with appears to be the transmission. I will be at a stop then I accelerate and the car has a hard shift forward. It tends to pull forward all of a sudden but very violently. I have taken in my Yukon to the two GMC delerships in my area several times. They have serviced it and even performed a transmission flush but still the problem has always continued. I have been dealing with this Yukon problem for two years now. Its so dangerous to drive.

69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2017

From time to time the vehicle lunges forward when im stopped at a stop sign, crosswalk or a stop sign. I have had it into the dealerships numerous times but gm only wants to put bandaids on the issue, gm has a major issue with their eight speed transmission, they only have internal bulletins to their dealerships. The dealership tells you to bring the vehicle in and they will drive it with the customer, but the issue is intermittent and doesnt always lunges, gm is trying to outlast the customers hoping they will get tired of dealing with the issue and they will go away. Gm cannot afford a recall because of the size of the problem, several deaths will occur until this issue is resolved. The issue happens on the roadways.

70 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2017

While driving, the check engine light intermittently flashes. Vehicle runs extremely rough, sluggish at times. Dealer checked vehicle over a period of time and eventually confirmed random misfires. Unable to fix issue. Unable to determine cause. Vehicle was later confirmed to have a faulty transmission transmission replaced by dealer.
