36 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2025

I am the owner of a 2021 GMC Yukon denali with the 6. 2l v8 engine (VIN: [xxx] ). This vehicle has exhibited multiple serious issues affecting safety, drivability, and reliability. 1. Engine noise & oil consumption: since purchase, the vehicle has had a persistent loud knocking/tapping sound, especially under acceleration. The engine also consumes an excessive amount of oil between scheduled oil changes, with no visible leaks. I reported this to the dealership multiple times, but since there is no active recall or TSB, they refused to diagnose or repair the issue under warranty. I have since learned that many other 2021 Yukon denali owners with the same 6. 2l engine are experiencing similar issues and some have had repairs or engine replacements covered by gm. I have received no such support. 2. Braking problems: the vehicle has ongoing brake performance issues. Despite replacing the brake components multiple times, the brakes feel inconsistent and unsafe, especially during highway driving or sudden stops. There is vibration and uneven response, and the braking system does not inspire confidence. These problems have persisted despite attempts to correct them. 3. Suspension/handling concerns: the suspension feels unstable and loose, especially at highway speeds or when turning. The ride quality is poor, and there is noticeable sway and body roll, which creates discomfort and concern for vehicle control. 4. Fuel/propulsion system: the engine does not always respond smoothly to throttle input. I’ve noticed occasional hesitation or surging, which may be related to the previously mentioned oil consumption or fuel delivery. Again, the dealership has been unable or unwilling to resolve these issues without charging diagnostic fees. I’ve reported these issues to my local GMC dealer on multiple occasions, but no lasting solution has been provided, and I have not been able to afford expensive diagnostic costs out of pocket—especially for a vehicle of this price information redacted pursuant to the freedom of informatio.

37 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2024

My family and I found ourselves stranded on the interstate when our engine failed while we were driving on I-10 at 75 mph. The connecting rod bearing got lodged in the engine, causing it to seize. This put us in an extremely dangerous situation. I believe these vehicles should be recalled. I've been in discussions with gm to buy back the vehicle, but their leadership has declined my request. They are offering to replace the engine, but I do not want this vehicle back.

38 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2024

On 9/23/2024, I was driving my 2021 GMC Yukon denali down the road, when the engine seemed to lose power, and the accelerator no longer worked. There were no indications of any errors or alarms on the dash, and all functions on the interior of the cabin showed as normal. The vehicle switched into neutral, and the engine shut off and I was unable to control or accelerate. This is a extremely serious situation and extremely dangerous in terms of safety.

39 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2024

While driving at 60 mpg on a major highway vehicle began decelerating itself and eventually stalled. Driver was able to pull to the side of the road in a turning lane. Private mechanic found code that fuel pump control module failed. After the failure vehicle could not be put into neutral and had to be towed back to residence by a tow truck. Check engine warning light did not appear until vehicle stalled.

40 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2024

1. Fuel pump control mod 2. My car gave me only a second warning before it shut down entirely. I was somehow able to get to the side of the road. No car going to the car 3. It was replaced at an independent service station. They called GMC dealership for assistance on diagnosis. Dealership said this is happening 4. No warning lights at all. No car trouble at all. Car is fully up to date on maintenance this is only a 2021 car with such low mileage you expect to a car to run properly if well maintained. I called the GMC dealership and spoke to the service manager and he just said that these things happen. Cars are complicated these days. I found that unacceptable since I could have been killed if someone was directly behind me and I could not get to safety. I spent $416 to get towed from a NJ towing company since aaa is not allowed to tow me on the garden state parkway. . I spent $165 to get to philadelphia to catch my flight since I did not have a car. I hope that this major shutdown of this car can be addressed and the answer is not just that cars are complicated these days. Thank you.

41 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2024

Twice in a five day span vehicle stalled out, acting like it is not getting fuel. Each time it took several minutes of trying to restart and getting below fuel tank to give it a couple knocks to get it to start. Both times there was atleast a half tank of gas. Each time the car was running well when it suddenly slowed down on its own, the first time I was on a busy street resulting in the need for a tow and I had my grand baby with me. The second time it was an isolated road and surprisingly I had cell service to call for assistance. The tow truck driver told me he thought it was the fuel pump. I looked up my VIN but it isn’t listed as one of the affected vehicles in the GMC Yukon recall, however it certainly seems like it is. I had no warning of any type with each incident, the car simply acted as if it ran out of gas. I have an appointment with a local garage. Additionally when this happens the vehicle does not let me shut it off. The engine isn’t running but I can’t power down the electronics system.

42 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2024

I owns a 2021 GMC Yukon. My wife was driving approximately 70 mph when the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was not able to go into neutral. The vehicle was towed to the dealership who diagnosed that the fuel pump module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle is getting repaired but not covered under warranty or by recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 14000.

43 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2024

I was driving on a highway at speeds of 65 mph and the engine stalled on the left lane. I almost got struck by a tracker trailer. The dealer supposedly fixed the issue and a few months went by and the vehicle died again engine failure in middle of the highway.

44 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2024

I was driving on a normal local highway and my car started to slow and an indicator to 'press start' to restart the engine came up. I tried to do that and the engine wouldn't turn over. My car sputtered to a stop during rush hour traffic as I was able to drift over to side of the road. The car wouldn't start after that, waiting for 10-20 minutes and re-trying wouldn't work either. I had to have it towed and am now awaiting a fuel pump module that is on back order. No warnings to me that it would happen and I fear that this could have happened on the highway at high speeds, causing a crash. My car is a large SUV that takes a lot to stop, the car just sputtering and dying is unacceptable. I see my car wasn't included in the recall of this issue back in 2021, but I believe it was manufactured during the impacted window and I took deliver in may of 2021 of the new car. I think more cars should be recalled to prevent this from happening to other people. Very scary when it happens and the alternative situations it can happen in, especially for such a large vehicle that typically is carrying multiple passengers.

45 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2023

While traveling on the interstate at 70 mph with husband and child inside, the vehicle started shaking and stalled. Had to glide off onto an exit ramp where the vehicle stopped and would not restart. Onstar ran diagnostics and came back with code p129f.

46 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2023

I was driving about 40 mph on a rural road when my vehicle stalled. I thought I was out of gas but I wasn’t. I tried to turn it around but I had no power. I pressed the gas but it would not do anything . It would not crank back up. I called my husband and he came and put gas in it and it still wouldn’t work. I was left stranded in the middle of the road on a curve. No warning lamps were on that I could recall. I’m having it towed to the dealer today. There are 39k miles on the car.

47 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2023

1. Fuel pump power control module code #p129f 2. Sudden stalling of engine at potential high speeds/ dense traffic areas. This created a major safety hazard for a potential fatal accident. 3. It has been currently confirmed by the dealer gerry lane Buick GMC after initial the breakdown it was sent there for investigation. 4. No, it has only been inspected at the dealership in gerry lane Buick GMC in baton rouge louisiana. 5. No warning lamps or symptoms before complete and instant vehicle failure at night on 10/1/2023. Additional information: please see NHTSA recall #n212332040 after our own investigation we have found a recall report for the same year make and model for the same issue of the fuel pump power control module. Our VIN was not included in this recall but has the exact issue and year as the recall. This is very dangerous to have these vehicles driving around without the owners knowledge of the potential fatal danger.

48 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2023

While driving at a low speed the vehicle suddenly hesitated, loss power and shut off. After several unsuccessful attempts to restart I had to have the vehicle towed to a local gm dealership. Their assessment was that the fuel pump control module was the cause but but my VIN was not associated with recall NHTSA campaign number: 21v739000 and they will not cover the replacement of the module that is now nearly impossible to get a replacement part for.

49 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2023

Car suddenly turned off while driving. Thankfully I was only going approx 10 miles an hour. Screen asked to restart engine but it would not start. Got stuck literally in the middle of road. Was not able to put into neutral to remove from roadway. The assessment from GMC dealer was a failed fuel pump control module. 900 miles outside of warranty. This could have been a much more serious and dangerous situation if I had been traveling on a busy highway at a much higher speed. This should be investigated further as my car is just now 2 years old and well maintained.

50 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2023

On sept 17, 20123 my SUV stalled while driving in heavy traffic causing a sudden and unexpected loss of power and putting me in jeopardy of a crash my vehicle was towed to the dealer as it would not start. The dealership replaced the fuel pump power control module. There is a recall for this part on 2021 Yukon. My vehicle was not included in the recall. Further, this make /year SUV has 11 safety recalls . I contacted GMC and opened a case. No one has contacted me to discuss the issue. I called several times and have been provided little information other than “the regional service rep” will contact me and that GMC sent an email to the dealership. I have been repeatedly told my vehicle is not part of the recall. Logic dictates otherwise. I do not believe the part failure was a coincidence. Rather, the recall should have included my SUV. Further, GMC should contact me to discuss this issue as a consumer with a safety concern. I cannot operate this vehicle with confidence knowing that some of the other recall items could cause a sudden loss of power. I do not have trust in GMC to accurately identify vehicles with issues. I want GMC to explain how any driver should feel safe to operate a vehicle on the roads under these facts- knowing a vehicle was not included in one of the recalls and could be left out of others. I also question why GMC makes a vehicle that cannot be put in neutral without the vehicle running. This creates a whole other safety issue if the vehicle stalls on a highway and needs to be pushed off the road. I had an issue with the tow because of this fact. In summary for required information: 1)unknown if the part is available as the dealer removed it 2) I was in traffic and my vehicle stalled 3) the dealer confirmed the part needed to be replaced as the SUV would not start 4) see number 1 5) there were no warning lights or other. The SUV stalled. I know GMC wants to make a profit. It should not be at consumer’s safety and peace of mind. .

51 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2023

The vehicle was not starting and after 3 attempts it started, but a strong smell like gasoline came inside the car, and as I checked, fuel was running all the way to the ground. Major hazard! the vehicle was taken to the dealership and diagnosed with a leak in the high-pressure fuel pump. According to the service advisor not covered under powerterain warranty. The part just went bad, and needs to be replaced. However, the vehicle has been in the service department since July 3 (now it is July 18) and the part is in back order and no news as of when my vehicle will be fixed. My vehicle is a 2021 and I do not understand how a part is not available, or discontinued (according to parts department). I need my vehicle fixed!.

52 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2023

Vehicle without any warning quit running, had to be towed, 19,400 miles on vehicle. Could have had a wreck since I was on a heavily traveled 4 lane highway. Dealer heyward allen in athens GA. Determined that it was the fuel pump and is on national backorder. This would tell me that there are other vehicles with this issue. There was another recall for these types of vehicles that could have also included this one n212332040. GMC could not answer why my vehicle was not included in the recall. GMC has of today done nothing about this issue except to say that the NHTSA issued recalls and they did not. Would not even take responsibility for manufacturing the part.

53 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2023

Car lost power while driving at high speed. Luckily was able to coast to the side of a busy controlled access highway. This was the second time for this to happen while driving, first was on a surface road driving at lower speeds. Very first instance was trouble staring the car. This all took place over a month and half. Dealer could never replacate while the had the card the first time. They are saying now that this is due to a failed fuel pump power control module, which there has been a recall on but my VIN was not in the recall. There were no warning light that come on before or when this happened. After multiple time trying to start the car the check engine light would come on.

54 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2023

The vehicle had a sudden loss power shortly after I started the vehicle. When I pressed down the gas pedal, the vehicle turned off. It was only a 20 mph zoned residential neighborhood so I was able to safely coast to the side of the road. I dont think I could have safely gotten to the side of the road if it had been on any type of a multi lane road. There was no warning, no lights, no sounds that there was a problem. I had the truck towed to the local dealership as I was 120 miles from home. The mechanic at dealership said it was a faulty “fuel pump power control module“ and that they are failing a lot. Last I heard that the part was on nationwide back order. There was a recall for this very same problem over a year ago but my vehicle is not part of the recall. Yet the problems are still occurring with many similar vehicles (tahoe / Yukon).

55 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2023

My vehicle lost power while driving on the highway. It was later determined that the fuel pump controller module required replacement. Losing power while driving 65 mph was not enjoyable or safe. The GMC dealer service department made the assessment, replaced the module, and the vehicle is now in my possession and functioning as normal. Once I was able to pull over there was a service light. One note. . . It appears that this safety recall n212332040, covers my issue. When searching the database with my VIN, this recall did not come up, or was I ever contacted. I am submitting this to make sure that a broader search is performed for this defect.

56 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2022

On a road trip out of state we stopped for gas. We got back on the road and few miles out the car suddenly slowed and gave a message on the screen something about acceleration. We pulled over and next the reverse didn’t work. We stayed overnight then next day the reverse still did not work. We were able to place in drive and continue on but we don’t have fully functioning reverse mode.

57 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2022

I was traveling on the highway and the vehicle started to jolt, sputter and speed acceleration was reduced in a highly congested area with little room to maneuver. I had to quickly shift lanes and get off at the first exit I could as I figure out what the issue was. I immediately contacted my dealership and they were able to get me an emergency appointment so my vehicle could be inspected that day. After the dealers analysis they said that a lifter needed to be replaced. I have a brand new vehicle with less than 8,611 miles on it. The lifter issue puzzled me so I went to the GMC Yukon message and sure enough there are alot of 2021 Yukon/tahoe owners that have had this exact same issue with even worse stories than mine.
