36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2025

Multiple issues. . . I bought the vehicle in oct. 2023 1. Brand new. . . . First day I brought the vehicle home there was a whining sound coming from the transmission. The reaction carrier assembly had to be replaced along with all other components. The transmission had to be completely removed from the vehicle and repaired. 2. In may of 2024 I had to have the lifters replaced on one side of the motor. 3. Right now it's in the shop with a blown motor. Yes there's only about 43,000 miles on it and the motor is blown and has to be fully replaced.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2025

My engine failed while I was driving & I had no warning. It was very scary & dangerous. Luckily I was in an area where I could get off the road quickly. It started skipping then lost power. I basically coasted off the road & had to call for help. It was making a bad knocking noise. This happened 2 weeks ago on April 16. It has been sitting at glynn smith. GMC dealership since. I was told by the service manager that the engine failed & I will need a new engine. The engines are on back order now. I fear they will replace it with the same problem. I see the recall this week but will changing the oil viscosity really fix it?? doubtful. Someone is going to get killed or hurt from this problem. I do not want the same issue to happen with a new engine.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2025

While driving on the mass pike with my fiancé and 4 kids our motor suddenly died. We were using cruise control going 75mph and the vehicle shifted into neutral itself and the car died. I managed to make it to a break down lane and we had to sit there for 2. 5 hours before a tow showed up to help. The dealership said the motor seized and we were under the 60k for warranty and it was covered. They got us a rental the next day and then on the 3rd day they called and said it was lack of oil changes that caused it and they asked if I had records of service history. We bought the vehicle used and only had the vehicle long enough to perform 1 oil change. We did our oil change on time and I'm trying to locate service records from the dealership we bought it from. However there were no signs of dark and contaminated oil when I did the oil change at my shop and also no sounds or warnings coming from the vehicle prior to the motor seizing up. I think they are trying to get out of paying for the motor when its clearly a known problem with these 6. 2l engines.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2025

I was going about 53 mph and went to pass another vehicle. While in the oncoming traffic lane, the transmission went out. The engine revved up and the gas pedal did not work. The vehicle has been inspected and was found to have a faulty control module that possibly caused the failure within the transmission. The parts are all on "indefinite backorder" and I have a $50,000 loan on a $60,000 vehicle that is now a paper weight.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2025

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the vehicle unintendedly decelerated and failed to exceed 10 mph. The message "reduced acceleration" was displayed. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that an unknown transmission part needed to be replaced; however, the part was on backorder. Additionally, the contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling), which the contact related to the failure; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer for 11 months. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2025

On March 28, my 2023 Yukon denali stalled on a 4 lane road forcing me to make an emergency stop on the side of the road in a right hand turn lane. The vehicle required towing to a local GMC dealership. They could not restart the vehicle and upon evaluation found metal shavings in the oil. They have recommended an engine replacement. There was no warning, it just stalled and would not restart. My Yukon remains at the dealership and we are still waiting for an engine.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2025

I was travelling on the interstate at 75 miles per hour and the vehicle started slowing down and completely shut down. The engine warning light then came on and I had to coast to the side of the road. I was on the side of the interstate for about 45 minutes and the vehicle had to be towed. The repair shop informed me it was a complete engine failure requiring a new motor and that gm has an extended backorder time due to this being a widespread problem for these model years with the 6. 2l gas engine. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and will be there for several months waiting on an engine.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2025

Cam shaft the problem was corrected by a licensed mechanic.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2025

I am writing to express serious safety concerns regarding our 2023 GMC Yukon xl denali, which has been in our possession for less than two years and has only 24,000 miles. On multiple occasions, while driving at high speeds on the freeway with our four young children, the vehicle unexpectedly lost power and shifted into neutral without warning. This occurred approximately four times on March 9, 2025, when we contacted onstar for assistance. Despite their response indicating no alerts on their end, we were advised to reach out again if the issue persisted. Unfortunately, the problem did occur again on March 16th, which prompted us to contact onstar and have the vehicle towed to the nearest dealership for further evaluation. The service department has since informed us that the motor requires replacement. Upon conducting additional research, it seems this may be a known issue with many vehicles manufactured by gm around the same time. We are deeply concerned by this safety hazard, especially given that the malfunction could have led to a life-threatening accident. While we are grateful that we were fortunate enough to avoid any serious consequences, we believe a solution beyond standard repairs is necessary to restore our confidence in the safety of this vehicle. Our family’s well-being and trust in the reliability of our vehicle are of the utmost importance.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2025

The engine lost power then suddenly stopped running while driving on an interstate.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2025

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle independently shifted into neutral and stalled in the middle of the highway. An unknown message was displayed. In addition, after restarting the vehicle, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the transmission then shifted into neutral(n) independently after driving for several miles. The contact stated that the vehicle would not crank and was towed to a local dealer. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to shift into neutral and was towed while in park(p). The vehicle was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the local dealer for further investigation. The contact related the failure to gm investigation: pe25001. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,549.

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2025

Driving at a slow rate of speed turning onto my road the engine started making a loud knocking noise, I could actually feel the knocking through the steering wheel and seat. Loss of power due to the problem. No warning before the issue started. Had to have vehicle towed to my local dealer. They are currently looking into the problem.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2025

While driving, vehicle threw an error “ reduced acceleration, drive with care”. I had my children in the car when the car abruptly reduced speed and car jerked. It was very scary while driving. It was stuck in 5th gear. I was taken to dealership. Code showed it needs a transmission valve body replacement. Part # 24065353. Dealership has stated part is “on backorder with no eta of the part”. My car has been sitting on the lot for 17 days waiting to be fixed.

50 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2025

The engine started making a rattling sound while on an interstate. The vehicle was able to make it to the next exit before it immediately lost power leaving it on the shoulder of a narrow road just past the exit ramp of the interstate. The vehicle was towed to a local gm dealership where technicians confirmed the engine was no good. This is the second engine that this vehicle has had replaced one at 18000 miles and one at 20000 miles. The engine failed with no clear warning signs, no check engine light, and no obvious causes like low oil.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2025

Gm has failed to resolve repeated issues on my vehicle (VIN: [xxx] ). I was never notified of any official buyback denial. Gm customer assistance continues to avoid clarifying the status and refuses to provide documentation of the denial. This creates an unresolved safety and reliability concern. I need an investigation into the consistent mechanical defects paired with gm’s refusal to properly process my claim. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2025

My engine stopped while I was driving. Unable to accelerate and the car will not start and is dead. Transmission light and def service lights came on. Luckily I was able to pull over to safety, barely. It was towed to the GMC dealership and waiting for it to be looked at. There were no warning lights that came on previous to when this happened. This is a huge safety concern for gm and it needs to be a recall because many, many others have reported the same complaints.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2023

Approximately 14’000 miles we were told a rod went through the engine. Our vehicle failed at a high rate of speed leaving myself, wife, and 2 young children to pull off a major highway and call for police to help slow traffic. This happened while driving 70 mph on the highway. The only warning we received was when the car went from “d” drive to “n” neutral on the highway. Fortunately, we had enough time to pull to the side of the road before complete engine failure. GMC road side was not helpful. We were told we would have to find a ride home over an hour away, and when our ride arrived, so did the tow truck. Then, they had to drag the vehicle onto the flatbed because the tow truck company did not have the unlocking device for the wheels. Upon getting it to our house, the tow truck company had to rock our vehicle off the bed! we were not able to tow it where we purchased it. We either had to tow it to the nearest gm dealer or our house. We chose our house because the nearest gm dealer from where we broke down would've been over an hour away from our house. Our second engine failed 2200 miles later while my wife was sitting at a light in a busy intersection. The car again went from “d” to “n,” and it was immovable. The cops had to be called because the tow company couldn’t come fast enough. We were towed out of the intersection, but I waited over 5 hours with several dropped tows for a tow company. That occurred on my birthday. We are now on our third engine, and GMC wouldn’t warranty the engine. Our brand new tires went at 32,000 miles because GMC could not confirm or deny that rocking our vehicle on and off the flatbed three times didn’t affect the alignment. The front two tires inside tread was worn. I was told the tires from the factory are 50+ thousand mile tires. We barely got 32,000 miles. We’ve had multiple issues with electronics, back up camera, and media package. The lemon law won’t cover us because our first engine did not fail before 12,000 miles.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2023

After driving on an interstate highway for approximately 2 hours I exited and brought the vehicle to a complete stop at a stop sign while preparing to turn right onto a busy 2-lane road. I applied moderate gas pedal pressure and the vehicle momentarily accelerated and moved forward but then the engine stalled as the transmission was attempting to shift automatically from 1st to 2nd gear. The vehicle was partially stuck out into the busy road without any power. This created a traffic conflict and near-miss with cars traveling along the 2-lane road that I was attempting to turn onto. I restarted the vehicle and drove it slowly onto the shoulder. The vehicle’s engine repeatedly stalled any time enough gas pedal pressure was applied to cause the transmission to attempt to shift from 1st to 2nd gear. This issue only occurs after the engine and transmission have been running at operating temperature for several minutes. The dealership could not duplicate this issue, but they only drove the vehicle a total of 7 miles over two different occasions. The vehicle was purchased new on June 23, 2023 and had approximately 1,700 miles on it when the issue first occurred. There were no warning lights or messages illuminated prior to the engine stalling. Vehicle is currently at a dealership service department being evaluated.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2023

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon. The contact stated while approaching a stop light the vehicle shut down completely without any warning. The contact shift the vehicle into park and restart the vehicle, once the vehicle restarted it started operating normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and stated that they're aware of the failure but there's no remedy or recall. A software update was done but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 3,000.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2023

On March 10, 2023 I exit hwy 35 at the city of cottula texas, as I took the exit lane and arrived at the stop sign, the vehicle came to a complete stop the engine stop idling and the transmission switch to neutral, this created a safety issue for me and my family because I was unable to restart vehicle and I created traffic congestion at the intersection, I am worried that this can happen again and I might be exposed to other vehicles crashing against my vehicle or even worse if this is to happen in the highway I will not be able to control the proper handling of my vehicle.
