1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2026

Had my oil changed Wednesday and noticed a new noise. Brought to dealership, this particular year is known for 6. 2 l engine failure but was told mine wasn’t in the recall. Well I was told today I have engine issues and they are replacing.

2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2026

For the third time, my vehicle died on me while I was driving; 2 of those times were on the highway going highway speeds. The last (3rd) time, I was towing my travel trailer/RV on the highway. In all incidents, the engine stopped propelling the vehicle. I could see and hear the engine revving but I failed to accelerate. After various warnings on the dash, I was able to pull safely off the road and then the engine just stopped, and nothing else worked. It failed to restart. This could have been a potentially dangerous situation because had I not been able to safely pull over, I would have been rear-ended. My vehicle was not part of the l87 recall for the 6. 2l gm engines but the symptoms sound the same as those that were. The recall probably should have been expanded beyond the dates that gm originally included.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2026

First incident April 9 2024 not even a month after purchased. Vehicle dashboard lit up light a christmas tree all warning lights while driving on highway. Vehicle shook and sputtered and turned off. The vehicle was serviced explanation given was loose spark plugs on a new vehicle. 2nd incident roughly month after recall repair for engine propulsion campaign. February 26 and 27 2026 . While driving the following lights came on engine failure ,brake failure , service transmission now unable to shift soon. I was terrified because I could not control the vehicle. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership. The answer to the issues was battery failure. Third incident April 17th 2026 I driving on highway 70 miles check engine light comes on flashes dashboard goes dark. Vechicle sputters and shut down. I restarted the vehicle the warning on the display disappeared and the vehicle restarted. I reached returned the vehicle again to the dealership because the problem resumed slowing down even though I’m depressing the gas. Vehicle is shifting and dragging. Resulting unexpected lurching. My vehicle has been at the dealership since end of April 2026 it remains there currently. My representative stated a code indicating misfiring has appeared 18 times. Also everyday my vehicle keeps saying software update even I installed the update and it says complete. I know gm is not updating my vehicle software everyday. That indicates there is a computer issue as well. My anxiety level is through the roof at this point. I complained before about this same failures in a Cadillac escalade prior to it lurching forward and crashing. I filed a complaint before February 2024 . There is something really wrong with gm engines and software. I know I’m not the only one experiencing these problems.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2026

Engine suffered catastrophic failure without warning while traveling highway speeds after being cleared during recall check and suggested oil viscosity change. Most recent dealer performed service on 4/3/26 showed no mechanical issues and engine failed 2 weeks later on 4/17/26.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2026

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while the vehicle was stopped at a red traffic light, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle stalled. The message "conditions not available to change gear" was displayed. The vehicle was restarted and driven to the residence. The contact stated that several days later, while pulling into a parking lot, the vehicle unexpectedly stalled. The vehicle was restarted and was then towed to the dealer; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2026

From the time I got my 2024 Yukon denali I have had problems with the electrical systems not working, it was in the shop for 2 months upon delivery to me when it was brand new, and since then I have had issues with the engine racing, the start button not working, or cutting off and on , on its own, recently the motor cuts on but never turns over. It has been in the shop again for over a week now and they replaced the engine control module and it is still doing the same thing. The dealership is now telling me its a wiring issue causing it. It has been something the entire time I have owned it. I paid 90k for a vehicle that has major issues. I am looking into the lemon law in my state of nc, and filing a complaint with GMC to see if I can get a replacement vehicle or traded.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2026

On March 14th the 6. 2l engine was making a loud noise so I took it straight to the dealership and dropped it off. It was determined to be a failed engine. I have not been able to use my vehicle for 5 weeks now.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2026

While driving I had a sudden loss of power. Contacted dealership and was ask for engine code light. Told them no light had appeared on dashboard. Did note intermittent shift changes while driving after this occurrence. Transmission and or engine feels like it has a studder. Concerning.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2026

Vehicle shut-off while driving on the expressway, around 70-75mph. Upon vehicle turning off, I had no option but to "coast" off to the left side, which thankfully, freed me from traffic for the most part. If anyone who have been a foot over, they would've hit me. I have had numerous electrical issues with this vehicle and have taken it to the dealership but they have been "unable" to duplicate the issue. Vehicle was immediately taken to the dealership (and they still have as of this incident report submission). They told me last night that they will keep it again today and test drive it again to see if they can get it to do anything but if it doesn't show anything new, they have nothing to diagnose and will give me my car back. After requesting a copy of repair orders and a list of the history codes in my car, I am beside myself that anyone thinks giving me this vehicle back to drive is ok. See the history code report in documents uploaded. These are major safety failures in a large vehicle.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2026

We were driving on the highway when the service lights came on along with the check engine light started flashing. The truck sounded like it hesitated a little, but the lights turned off and it drove his normal. We exited the freeway as we were close to home came home, parked it turned it off and turned it back on to test it, and it hesitated to turn on so we took it straight to the dealership where they repeated the issue. We left it there. They did not call me so I went up to the dealership the following day to check on this and I had not heard from them they told me why they were on the test drive that the engine had locked up. My vehicle was a part of the initial recall. They told me that it passed the inspection and they changed the oil to the new oil that was required and now at 12,000 miles my engine has failed.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2026

Purchase this vehicle November 1st 2025 as a gm certified used vehicle. Had several issues with the camera system including the backup camera. Would go offline and not be usable for days. Vehicle went back to shop several times for this with no resolution. Now February 18th 2026 at approximately 630pm est (after sunset) on the way into work traveling on the highway the engine lost power and engine shutdown. Vehicle shifted into neutral with the indication to press the start button in order to shift into drive. This cause all of the lights to shutdown when it tried to start the engine. I was barely able to pull this over to the shoulder before I lost forward motion. Narrow shoulder. Tried to restart again with the same results. Call towing company. They attempted to jump start vehicle. Same results. All power shutdown. Truck was loaded onto flatbed and towed to dealership. Dealership states bad battery. Got authorization to replace battery from the dealer in which I purchased the truck. Hey attempted to start and then it burned out the main fuse. They determined that the engine had seized and they were going to replace the engine. I looked up to find that gm had performed the engine oil replacement procedure in June of 2025. This vehicle is listed in the "recall" for defective l87 engines. Clearly changing the oil had no effect to remedy the issue. I have no faith that the new engine will not fail the same way this one did.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2026

The SUV has 46,000 miles on it. Recently, the check engine light illuminated, prompting me to take it to the dealership for servicing. The diagnostic codes retrieved were u0285 and u1345. I was informed that the aero shutter required replacement. There was no physical damage; it merely ceased functioning. The dealership confirmed the active check engine light and conducted a diagnosis. While my safety was not immediately compromised, I felt extremely frustrated upon learning that gm would not cover the repair under warranty, despite this being a recognized issue that gm has yet to address. This situation is simply unacceptable and warrants further investigation and resolution.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2026

I have a 2024 GMC denali that had an engine service appointment in September 2025 for the engine recall where they did an oil change & put in performance grade oil & scoped my engine. Rochester serra GMC said they sent all the engine pictures to gm and my engine was okay according to them. After that appointment in November my engine light went on and my denali was leaking oil in my driveway. We took the truck back to serra GMC rochester and they replaced the oil filter that they said was defective & an oil change was done after my husband requested that just filling up the oil was not okay. They also told us the engine light didn’t show up on their computer system and it must have cleared out, so nothing was done for that. Today 1/25/26 now about a month later my engine light is back on and has remained on with multiple starts. This is not acceptable and needs to be investigated and I want this escalated. I do not feel comfortable driving my truck with this engine light on with a known engine propulsion recall that has no actual cure. The oil replacement and cap change has done nothing and engine light remains on. I just don’t want to hear the same thing that the computer must have cleared the error code. My engine light is on for a reason and I’m asking for a thorough diagnostic test to be done by a certified technician and a get a valid explanation of why my engine light keeps going on & not just changing my oil or waiting for something catastrophic to happen to me or my family. Gm is putting me and my family at risk by saying that my truck’s engine is fine when clearly the engine light keeps repeatedly going on for 3 months in a row now since November 17, 2025.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2026

Driving down the inter state lost power and rpm raised, oil light came on and said to shut off. We checked the oil it was fine. Got back on the road then a knocking started and the vehicle shut off. I tried to start again and it wouldn’tand hour or so later it started and was knocking bad, I turned it back off. Called tow truck driver to have it towed to the dealership.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2026

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph on the highway and attempting to accelerate around a possible drunk driver traveling on the roadway, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The driver was able to pull over safely. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called 911 and called for roadside assistance, and the vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with an engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was previously taken to the local dealer to be repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2026

My vehicle failed the picotest that gm is conducting on the engine. It is currently sitting at romain GMC in evansville indiana. I am not sure if I was at risk but the dealership says it's unsafe to drive so my assumption is that my safety was at risk. The dealership states that it will take 3 months before a new engine is installed. There were no symptoms leading up to this recall inspection.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2026

****this complaint is an addendum to odi complaint #11715415 **** this report updates the prior complaint to reflect complete engine seizure and pending engine replacement following post-repair loss of propulsion. I respectfully request that NHTSA include my vehicle’s failure in its ongoing evaluations related to l87 engine failures, including recall 25v-274, engineering analysis ea25007, and recall query rq26001. My 2024 GMC Yukon xl denali experienced progressive internal engine failure beginning at approximately 61, 975 miles. First attempt: the vehicle required camshaft and lifter replacement due to internal mechanical damage. Immediately after 4. 5 week repair, the vehicle suffered sudden loss of motive power at highway speed.   the engine shut down without warning at 75 mph with children in the car. (car was in owners possession for no more than 15 hours, and was driven 25 miles on the highway when it switched to neutral and shut down). Second attempt: the vehicle was towed back to the dealership. Additional electrical repairs were then attempted. (fuse box) it shut down again during dealer testing. Third attempt: subsequent internal inspection revealed cylinders 5 and 6 seized, requiring full engine replacement. This represents: • repeated loss of motive power • escalation from top-end failure to catastrophic lower-end seizure • failure occurring immediately after dealer-performed repair(s) • a 2024 model-year vehicle with relatively low mileage given NHTSA’s ongoing investigations into post-remedy failures (rq26001) and out-of-scope bearing failures (ea25007), I request that this incident be evaluated as part of the broader defect pattern analysis.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2026

About 4 weeks ago my vehicle began shaking uncontrollably while driving. The check engine light illuminated and multiple warnings appeared including emissions system, variable valve timing system, engine and transmission failures shown on the GMC app. I contacted the selling dealership and was given an appointment 4 days later. Later that day I drove less than 5 miles to pick up my children from school. During that drive the vehicle filled with a strong gasoline odor and exhaust fumes were overwhelming. I feared the vehicle could catch fire. I contacted the dealership again, stated the vehicle was unsafe, dropped it off at approximately 8:00 pm and was required to obtain my own rental vehicle. After one week I was told the engine required a camshaft and lifter replacement. Inspected & approved by extended warranty, parts were ordered and installed. I retrieved the vehicle on 23 days after the initial failure. The following morning (24th day) while driving approximately 75 mph on a major interstate with my children the vehicle suddenly shifted into neutral and would not re-engage. I was unable to shift into any gear and coasted to a narrow shoulder inches from traffic and guardrail. The dashboard stated the vehicle could not shift into gear and instructed me to push the start button. The engine would not restart. We were stranded approximately two hours in 10-degree weather on a major interstate with heavy semi-truck traffic. Roadside assistance was required. 3 days later the dealership stated the failure was a fuse block. After replacement the vehicle was test driven and stated to be operating normally. A second dealership employee test drove the vehicle, it died again and had to be towed back to the dealership. The battery was replaced after draining while disabled. Repeated mechanical and electrical failures resulted in complete loss of power at highway speeds and placed my children and me in immediate danger. I no longer believe this vehicle is safe to operate.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2026

I was driving on interstate and thank god I got off the exit and vehicle suddenly cut off. An indicator came on stating to push start to restart vehicle while the vehicle shifted to neutral on its own. Then a low oil pressure sign came up on dashboard. I tried push start again and nothing happened. Lucky by this time I was just off the exit so I was able to come to a stop and shift to park. I tried push start again and the dashboard just went dark and started making a clicking noise. After some time around 1 min I tried again and it did crank up and I was able to try and get as close the the edge as possible but still in a two lane road on the bridge of an off ramp. I say thank god because 30 seconds sooner I was going around 60mph with my 4 month old in the backseat. Lucky I got to the exit when this happened. From the research I have done apparently this happens a lot to this model I have 2024 GMC Yukon denali xl. I had a recall for this issues supposedly fixed back in October 2025. Things could of been much worse. Also this all happen coming from just having an oil change done at the dealer. Literally leaving the dealership going home. The dealership loaned me a vehicle they say for 3 days for free after that I may have to pay because it may not be covered by gm which is ridiculous. The vehicle is at the dealer and I will be waiting to hear there analysis.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2025

I bought my truck on 10/29/25 on 12/04/25 haven’t even maid my first payment on the truck yet and my wife was on her way to work at 4 am when the engine shut off on its own and went in to neutral. She tried starting the truck again and it wouldn’t so she had to leave the truck abandoned in the middle of the road and walk to work in the cold and dark. We ended up getting the truck towed home a few hours later when there was a tow truck available. I work out of town so on 12/07/24 when I got back in town I started the truck up and everything seemed normal so I took it for a spin and right as I was getting on the highway it lost propulsion, engine shut off, and truck shifted on its own to neutral. I was almost rear ended by the truck behind me luckily I was able to get the truck out of the way in time. I had to sit and wait for 3 hours until a tow truck was able to tow the truck. This was on a Sunday so I could not get it dropped off at the dealership due to them being closed until the next day! finally I got it towed to the dealer (all tow’s paid out of pocket as well)… 3 days later the dealer calls me back to let me know I’m getting a new engine not sure how long it will take, but they will get me a rental mean while and that’s all.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2025

See attached document for complaint.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2025

Vehicle was operating on the interstate with cruise control activated. Time was approximately 9:15pm. Weather was fair with temperatures in the lower 60's. Speed was approximately 73mph. Without any audible or warning light notifications the engine stalled and all exterior lighting, power assisted braking and steering was lost. The emergency flashers were immediately activated to warn vehicles in nearby proximity of our emergency status. I tried to restart the engine(the transmission was showing to be in n)with no success. During the attempt to restart, the exterior lighting was restored. With the path of travel now visible, I was able to slow the vehicle to a safe speed and exit from the roadway onto the shoulder. Upon stopping, the vehicle was placed into p and onstar was notified of the event. We remained in the vehicle until one of our friends was able to take us home. Onstar contacted aaa to remove the vehicle to the nearest gm dealership.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2025

Oil consumption, vehicle is using 1 quart minimum every 2000 miles, has been through 3 service cycles in 17303 miles due to this issue. Has had recall test done by morehart GMC in durango, CO as well as oil consumption test completed by same dealership. The first time this occurred the vehicle was taken to hi country GMC in farmington, new mexico, USA, where the service manager blamed the issue on driving.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2025

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal burning odor entering the vehicle from the engine compartment. There was no warning light illuminated. Upon inspection, the contact observed that the vehicle was burning oil. The dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact expressed concerns that the issue might be related to carbon monoxide entering the engine compartment and cabin, which could pose a serious safety hazard. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 28,750.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2025

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Yukon xl. While the contact's wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. In addition, the contact's wife noticed an abnormal knocking sound before the engine seized. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and dtc: p0305 (lifter on cylinder 5); was retrieved, and the intake valve detached and damaged the camshaft. The contact was informed that the lifters and related parts, camshaft, and the coolant pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure due to the metal shavings found in the oil. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed. In addition, the failure had occurred within 2,500 miles of the initial repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure ,and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 14,589.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2025

This is a post-remedy failure of recall 25v-274 (GMC 6. 2l l87 engine). Following a full engine replacement performed by the dealer under this safety recall, the vehicle has suffered a catastrophic electrical compromise. The vehicle is currently throwing codes p2534 (low ignition voltage) and u3018 (bcm communication). Safety hazards: the vehicle experiences sudden loss of power, engine stalling at highway speeds, and total failure of the exterior turn signals (hyper-flash). The ac system has been disabled by the body control module due to low voltage, creating a hazard in high temperatures. This vehicle fits the exact profile of NHTSA recall query rq26-001 and engineering analysis ea25-007. The manufacturer's remedy for the safety recall has failed to restore the vehicle to a safe operating condition, and the dealership is attempting to charge diagnostic fees to investigate their own defective recall workmanship.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2025

Start transmission was replaced by dealer at 75 miles. 2nd transmission was replaced at 175 miles transmission was humming and slipped at around 30 to35 mph this was around April of 2024 August 1 2025 while driving at 45 dash board lit up went flashing and SUV slowed dramatically down to 30 mph got to dealership and they kept the vehicle for about a week and returned it with it being supposedly fixed. About mid October while driving at 60 mph it shut down again almost causing a wreck went to 30 miles per hour again. Hurt my wife’s neck when it reduced speed so quickly. Took back to dealership and I told them this car is dangerous this was with about 20 k miles been in shop was told it is scanning with 22 repair codes we have not had the car for 5 weeks and are trying to work with gm and dealer to get us out of it. But as of this report no progress. On interstate in city traffic this car will hurt or kill many people. I’m refusing to let my family or myself drive it. There is no warning when it will flash lights in dash and reduce speed. Also the front crash sensors went out and are currently not working we have all service records and paperwork that has been done including maintenance records we were given vehicle back with no warnings. I went to nita’s and ran VIN and it still shows issues. We are still making payments but driving a loaner car. The car is dangerous. I advised the dealer the first time it happened. I didn’t want it back. My wife went and got it and it sis it the second time and now she agrees it is dangerous contacted gm and they want to fix it but dealer implies they can’t ?. .

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2025

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle lost motive power and decelerated. The contact was able to coast over to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and was diagnosed with crankshaft and rod bearing failure. The vehicle was previously included in NHTSA campaign number: 25v274000 (engine and engine cooling); however, it was determined that the engine was not defective and did not need to be replaced. The vehicle was scheduled for engine replacement, but had not yet been repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2025

While driving on the interstate, I felt the engine "slip". Immediately afterwards, I heard a load knocking noise from under the hood, the check engine light came on, and the vehicle lost power. I was able to pull off the interstate. Called a towing company and got the vehicle towed to a GMC dealer. The dealership diagnosed the vehicle and noted a critical issue with the engine and transmission. Dealership recommends engine replacement. Vehicle is less than a year old with 15,400 miles on the odometer. This particular vehicle is not impacted by the GMC recall on their engine, however is has the same engine failure.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2025

On 15 Aug 2025, I was driving this vehicle on rte 151 in raccoon township with my 2 children when the vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly experienced a “loss of propulsion” with a corresponding uncommanded shift to “neutral”. Attempts to shift the car back into drive were met with a “parameters not safe” caution. I was fortunate enough that the vehicle behind me was able to slow and an accident was avoided. The thought that this could have happened with my family on the highway, during adverse conditions, or any other scenario is frightening to say the least. Other owners of affected models weren’t as fortunate.

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2025

I had just backed the truck out of a parking space (while turning) and shifted the transmission into 'drive' with my foot pressing the brake pedal (not the gas pedal). When I took my foot off the brake pedal in order to transfer it to the gas pedal the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward without my foot ever pressing the gas pedal. The vehicle traveled forward about 20 feet before I was able to stop it by pressing the brake pedal. I am a retired general motors safety engineer and I know I was not pressing the gas (accelerator) pedal when this sudden acceleration event occurred. I believe this type of event occurred one other time while I was driving this vehicle. However, I am not as clear about the circumstances surrounding this previous event.
