Hatchback/liftgate Lock Problems of GMC Yukon

The contact owns a 2006 GMC Yukon denali. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when he was unable to open the rear lift gate. An authorized dealer was notified and the contact was informed that the actuator for the rear lift gate would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 106,000. The VIN was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that the tail gate would intermittently fail to open. The tail gate and the tail gate window were jammed shut and would not release from the interior or exterior latches. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The keyless remote also failed to open the tail gate. The contact was concerned since there was no manual release on the tailgate in the event of a crash or any incident where passengers would have to exit the vehicle from the rear. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000. The current mileage was 175,000.

Right glass lift gate hinge failed and broke away from glass after approximately 50,000 miles. Lift gate was rendered inoperable but stayed shut. At about 60,000 miles the entire lift gate broke away and fell onto the road while driving. A replacement lift gate glass had to be purchased from a junk yard for $500. Installation was performed by myself.

The rear hatch of our denali works itself open. We shut it sufficiently hard, and in time, driving down the road, the warning lights overhead and on the dash board come on telling us that the rear hatch is open. We have to stop to open and reshut it. This does not happen every time but has been consistent since we purchased it.
