Subframe on passenger side is rusted through creating a safety hazard. I was unaware of this issue on 1999-2002 Honda Accords but when researching for the cause of a noise coming from the front end found plenty of articles but no corrective action from Honda.
The engine cradle is rooting out from the ac unit is draining on it and it about to brake because of the way Honda did it I hope the recall is made on it.
The passenger side subframe is badly compromised by rust (some holes). Parts of the suspension and steering can be compromised is it fails while driving. The driver side is not badly rusted. Honda has relocated the air conditioning drip tube in later years which might be the cause of the problem.
4th July my wife was in a collision which resulted in her suffering memory loss, speech issues , stutter, a severe concussion and weeks and weeks on continued therapy to include physical therapy, speech therapy and continued care. The air bag didnt deploy . No reason with the damage sustained by the car it shouldn't have deployed. My three children where also in the car to include my 12yr old son in the front passenger. My child sustained minor bumps and bruises but as a result of failed equipment my wife nearly forgot who I was to include last last ten years of our lives amoungst other things , and could possibly have most her life. One of the doctor diagnosis is : concussion with loss of consciousness, subsequent encounter. (speech pathological treatment plan ongoing ) my wife is also unable to work and provide , and take care of my children in my absence. Vehicle was in motion , speed 40-55mph ohio state route 68 in urbana, ohio. Night time following July 4th fireworks.
Passenger side engine cradle rusted out. Sway bar bushing broke off while driving had to have the vehicle towed home vehicle mileage is 260514.
The sub-frame on passenger's side of car has significant rust through, presumably due to a poorly placed air conditioner condensate drain, which drips water on the affected component. This is a serious design flaw. The top part of the components is mostly eaten away by rust. The part has not broken, yet, but it eventually will. The driver's side of the same component is unaffected. The remainder of the car is in good shape for its age.
After a long trip out west we noticed a noise in the front end, we had the car looked at and they said the sub frame on right side was rusted out. We consider ourselves lucky nothing happened on the trip. From ohio to south dakota.
Structural design flaw rapidly corrodes front subframe. Vehicle failed state inspection after significant corrosion of passenger-side front subframe compromised structural integrity. Localized corrosion occurring suddenly during hot summer months almost certainly related to faulty placement of air conditioning drain hose. Mechanic recommended replacement of entire subframe, repair cost quoted at $1,700. Vehicle deemed unsafe to drive pending this necessary structural repair. Current vehicle mileage is 123,000.
Front sub-frame or engine cradle is rusted and broken. Its very unusual in Honda. My whole car was rust free except that part. There are lot of customers complaining about this issue.
My son was driving his 2000 Honda Accord going on to 270 north all of a sudden his hood came popping up smashing his windshield and he was lucky he was in the lane closest to the brim. He could not see and was lucky no one was in front or at the side of him. The police officer that arrived asked us if this was a 2000-2002 Honda and my son said yes. He explained to us this is the 5th Honda vehicle in a month that this same thing occured. His daughters same car as my son did this a month ago. He recommended to me to email you and let you know. Obviously this is an issue, and if this coilumbus ohio police officer has seen 5 I womder what has been going on in other states. The police officers name is officer ken huck phone number 614-645-4635 police officer number 1499.
Subframe rot caused from the ac drain line. My frame is completely rotted through and broken because of this. Could've caused a crash.
Takata recall I bought this car with no air bag and also suspension is no good.
Tl- the contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the contact hit a pot hole and heard an abnormal noise emit from under the passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the passengers side sub frame of the vehicle had corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 185,000. Wh.
Subframe/cradle rusted through on the passenger side due to manufacturers routing of air conditioner condensation onto subframe. No damage/rust on drivers side where a/c does not drain. Around $400 in parts and over $700 in work.
Just purchased a 2000 Accord on sat 8-22-15. Body looks great, runs shifts great, but when attempting oil change I realized passenger side front subframe is completely gone. Yes,gone. It's missing @4 inches of metal which has obviously rusted away, with surrounding metal rusted. Driver side looks perfect. Same part, two different places, acting completely different.
Car failed inspection due to corroded subframe on right hand side front passenger area. Seems to be a common problem, and potentially dangerous if component failed.
The arm broke into on my car. The welding was bad. Also the clear coat look awful, it was painted cheaply and , it a eye sore. I just want it fixed . I love my car, but should not have to deal with recalls.
While driving around town heard clunk from passenger side front wheel. Jacked up car, pulled wheel and found sub frame had rotted through. This is an extremely hazardous condition, as the car could have lost steering control and have been in/caused an accident. This is a 2000 Accord and have searched the web and found many other Accord vehicles ( 1999-2002) with the same condition. Honda needs to step up and take care of their customers and replace the sub frames on the affected Accord vehicles.
Tl-the contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, heard the an abnormal noise and failed to steer properly. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic who diagnosed the right front passenger's side substructure had rusted off. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000. Ne.
The car made a knocking sound and pulls to the right at 55 miles per hour. Mechanic noticed the sub frame on the right front side of the vehicle was rusted out and stated it was unsafe to drive. Entire front sub frame to be replaced. No evidence of rust on the rest of the sub frame or undercarriage.
I took my car into the mechanic for two issues: a possible brake fluid leak, and a weak to almost nonfunctional a/c in the summer months. He told me that my front passenger seat subframe was completely rotted out due to rust (the rust was not mentioned whatsoever during the car's inspection only 6 months prior) and would have to be replaced because the car is unsafe to drive. Checked online and it seems to be a widely prevalent issue with gen 6 Accords (98 - 02). I've lived in a snowy city for the life of the car, but there is no appreciable rust anywhere else on the car. Only in this one spot, which is directly under the a/c drain. Honda changed the location of the a/c drain in 2003 (with their 7th gen Accords), and this problem is not an issue on those cars. Honda has said that it is just a coincidence, but they are better off putting out a recall and covering the cost of replacing these front passenger subframes than having to pay for a class action lawsuit once somebody is seriously injured or killed because of a rotting subframe. While I think that my weak a/c may be what caused the acceleration of this subframe rot, it is unacceptable that so many people have had this issue with the subframe and Honda has made no attempts to reconcile the issue. Ford did a recall on a 12 year old car when they discovered a design flaw. I am consulting lawyers at this time to determine if there is a potential for a class action lawsuit before there is a report of somebody dying due to this.
On my Honda Accord 2000, I can remove the ignition key without switching the transmission to 'park'. I parked my car, and left the transmission on 'drive'. The car rolled down the slope and crashed into another car parked few yards away. The description of the recall 05v02500 (ignition-park interlock) matches exactly my car characteristics and the problem I am having with the interlock system. I called Honda and they said that the recall does not apply to my VIN.
I bought a Honda Accord with 162,000 miles on it and was told all it needed was brakes and rotors. When I was replacing the brakes and rotor on the front passenger side of the vehicle I inspected all other parts as well and that's when I noticed the big problem. The sub frame was rotted out. I did some research online and found that this is a common problem with this year and that Honda recognizes this but fails to do anything about it. The air condition drain is positioned so that it is constantly dripping on to that part of the sub frame. This is a major safety issue and I was advised not to drive the vehicle until I had the part replaced. I researched the price and labor for the part : part: $600+ Honda garage. Labor: $500+ Honda garage. Honda needs to take responsibility for this as other honorable companies have.
Heard some strange noises and took the car to a mechanic. They reported that the rear beam had rusted through on the passenger side and told me it was a design flaw common to that year Accord. They noted that the same part on the driver's side was not rusted and attributed the passenger side problem to it's location beneath the drain for the air conditioning condenser. They also indicated that the car was unsafe to drive.
I was pulling into the parking space after driving the vehicle for 45 mins (approx. 20 miles). When I was ready park the car and switch off the ignition, the car suddenly accelerated way too fast and hit the building in front. I was driving into the parking space at less than around 10 mph as I had to make 3 turns within 100 feet before coming into vacant parking space. My leg was also in the break pedal as I made those turns after getting into the private property from IL rte 83. I can definitely confirm that my leg was not in gas pedal as my right leg was on the break pedal to make those turns and stop the car in the parking space. It all happened in the matter of few seconds and there was no time to react. The car came to halt only after hitting the building. Both air bags deployed as soon as the car hit the building and there was heave smoke inside the car. It was really scary because by looking at the damage the speed at the time of accident looks to be around 50 mph. It was a relatively higher curb in front and the building was just 6 - 8 feet away from the curb, I was also driving into the parking space at less than 10 mph. I am really shocked to see this kind of unintended/sudden acceleration happen with Honda Accord cars which could prove to be fatal for the driver, passenger and pedestrian alike.
Dear NHTSA: I am writing about my 2000 Honda Accord coupe which had an accident on may 22nd, 2010. I was driving in dry conditions along I-85 north in jefferson county, georgia when the left rear tire suddenly blew out causing my car to flip and roll over. We do not know what caused the blowout. I lost consciousness briefly and my neck was severely broken. I had to have an operation and will be out of work for at least three months. My son was injured but not as severely as me, with many cuts on his face and ear. Two other occupants received many bruises and cuts on arms, legs and faces. The car was a total loss. There are two issues that seem to point to defects in the car. The first is that the roof collapsed so much that it hit my head and almost killed me. The second issue is that none of the four air bags deployed. It seems to me that with so much damage to the car as it rolled over and crushed the roof, that the air bags should have deployed. I would appreciate your investigating this car to see if federal guidelines were violated.
Paint looks like a brillo pad was taken to it.
I have a 2000 Honda Accord coupe v6 the window latches and driver's side door have completely locked up again this is the second time I've paid out of my pocket 500$ for a door that should have been recalled years ago considering all the videos I have seen of this exact same problem with this exact same years and models I'm serious about considering a class action suit against Honda for ignoring this issue and now yet again the driver side door has locked up again this needs to be recalled there's thousands of cars same year same problem and you have done nothing to right this wrong also the frame bracket of the seat is unstable.
