1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2022

The rear passenger brake caliper piston seized. It will not release I have 2 children and that's our only way of transportation. .

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2020

While driving my car at 60 mph on cruise control, it suddenly started increasing speed. Then I noticed that the accelerator pedal was pressed to the floor of my car. Then I began to use the brakes to try and control the speed, but they did not function well at all. Finally after struggling in on this rural road, I was able to slow it down, I called 911, then I just used the emergency brake to stop it because I didn't know what else to do. Although this was a terrifying experience, it could have been tragic if had not been in a rural area with very little traffic. Up to that point, this car had been in excellent condition low maintenance and really good car, but that day it was smoking and I thought it would catch fire. Lastly, the repairs cost $696 which is much more than I had ever paid for this car.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2015

While driving the vehicle at night, I experienced a spontaneous total electrical failure when switching the dash control which powers the digital thermometer/odometer control. This effected headlights, steering and braking, as if the car was turned completely off, but I was able to coast toward the road shoulder.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2014

I was driving my normal route and coming up on my right turn. The dashboard lights and all interior lights of my car went black and I was unable to steer my car. Within seconds I tried to brake. My pedal went directly to the floor and my brakes never engaged. I had no steering and no brakes going 55mph (forcing me through a red light). I was t-boned by a SUV at 60mph (no skid marks for either of us)- a full impact crash. My side of the car was destroyed, my car sent spinning into and taking out a pole, and then my car spun down an embankment. The next thing I remember is being cut out of my car and then nothing past that. I spent the next 5-6 days at 2 different hospitals. I suffered lung/heart/body trauma (especially due to airbag and seatbelt) and a major concussion. Wherever the airbag hit and seatbelt lay- I'm a rainbow of colors. I am looking at a lengthy recovery and unable to return to work for a few weeks, unable to take college finals, nor can I return to college next semester due to heart trauma. My husband and I had had moments of brake and steering problems spastically/occasionally in the last few months. Each time we took in our car we were told "we can't find any problems". And the notorious: "there are no recalls for your brakes". We have four children and this incident has affected each of us.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2012

My wife had parked in a parking space with a very slight downward slope. There was another space ahead of her. She had been driving in a heavy rain. The car was operating normally. When she returned about 15 minutes later, the brake pedal felt hard. She started the engine and shifted into reverse. The car started coasting forward. The brakes remained hard and didn't stop the car. She stopped it by shifting to park, then turned off the engine. She repeated the attempt to back out of the space - same result. No error messages appeared. She called, and I drove to the scene. The rain had stopped. I felt the hardness of the brake pedal, although it felt more like a stiff spring than a non-power brake pedal to me. I pumped the springy pedal a few times; it didn't change. I started the engine, keeping my foot lightly on the brake. When the engine started, the stiffness immediately disappeared, the pedal felt normal, the transmission worked, and the car drove normally. I didn't get to experience the transmission problem. Later, I could find no problem with the brakes. The linkage has only a very slight amount of play, as it should. I depleted the vacuum supply by pumping the brakes with the engine off. The pedal felt very hard, unlike the springy feel in the parking lot. I have a phd in electrical engineering and a lot of car repair experience. This background leads me to conclude that it is extremely unlikely for the unrelated braking and transmission systems to fail simultaneously, and then recover simultaneously. There has to be another common cause, which leads me to suspect the computer system or possibly a sensor, particularly because this happened after driving in a heavy rain. The postulated failure mode is a compromised computer system that could partially activate the abs system and also fail to operate the reverse solenoid valve in the transmission.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2011

Brakes are overly sensitive, particularly during high idle when the engine is cold. It is not possible to apply the brakes quickly without the brake pedal feeling as though it's getting sucked down during a slight application. One must be very careful and start applying the brakes incredibly slowly before they wish to start stopping. Thus, it's not possible to stop quickly without the brakes being heavily applied against one's will. During an emergency braking situation, which luckily I have not come across while driving this vehicle, I suspect it'd be incredibly difficult to maintain control of the vehicle while slowing down, regardless of whether or not the vehicle has abs. This problem has occurred since the car was new. Upon research on many different websites, I have found other drivers of 2004 Honda Accords that complain of the same issue. One complaint even claimed that they applied their brakes normally on an offramp, and the issue caused their vehicle to spin around completely, luckily not striking anyone or anything. Others say that they have complained to their dealerships, but were just told that they need to get used to the brakes. I feel that a likely problem may be an issue with the power brake system providing too much assist with even light application of the brakes. I'm not sure whether any accidents have been reported due to this issue, or if this issue has been found to be the cause of any accidents. Nevertheless, it is definitely a safety issue.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

I was stopped at a red light, a few cars behind, and then the traffic light turned green and the cars took off. After I just passed the intersection the first car made a sudden stop, and the cars after were able to stop also. I had enough time and room to stop the car itself with out crashing too, but the breaks did not stop when my foot was pressed all the way down on the petal. I was not going more than fifteen mile per hour at the time. The air bags did not go off and the front was severely damaged after going into the other cars. Very disappointed in Honda.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2010

My Honda Accord 2004, v4 , has unintended acceleration especially when after initial ignition, the brakes do not seem to hold the acceleration well. It has been happening on multiple days the most recent being on January 5th 2010.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2009

My 2004 Honda Accord no brakes/almost died in a accident /they say it is abs modular ????.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2007

I was coming down a hill and the anti-lock brakes didn't engage and I had not braking control. My speed was less than 20 mph. This has happened on flat surfaces as well as hills.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2006

While driving in traffic, mainly at a stand still, the brake pedal will reach the bottom stop and not push anymore. The car has not yet ever failed to stop. Normal braking requires no effort whatsoever and there is no resistance felt. The pedal will normally fall to below that of the accelerator and on a manual transmission car, it makes heel/toe driving impossible. I have had the rotors both front and rear warp. The brakes have been bled twice now, which results in a slight improvement in pedal feel for a short duration. When the pedal dropped to the stop, I called and made an appointment at the dealer. They stated that operation is normal at this time, even when I requested they drive another car back to back with mine, as I did. This is how I know there is something wrong, as the other two cars I've driven recently have a much higher and firmer feeling pedal than my car. I have heard of several other complaints from other Honda owners, and if the Honda techline is called, there is a known problem with the abs/tcs unit bypassing pressure causing the low, odd feeling pedal.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2006

: the contact stated while applying brake while traveling downhill, the brake pedal extended all the way to the floor board and the vehicle accelerated forward crashing into a tree. The contact was wearing a seat belt, and no injuries were sustained. The vehicle sustained minor damage. The police were not alerted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection. The dealer was unable to duplicate the problem or find anything wrong. The manufacturer was alerted. Updated 11/30/2006 -.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2004

(the vehicle is at d-drive gear) when I put my foot on brake pedal to slow down my 2004 Honda Accord ex-l for a red traffic light, when the speed meter was lower than 20 mph something funny with engine happened. The vehicle engine rpm jumped high to around 2000 then stayed at around 1300 even though it is totally stopped. Engine was still delivering extra power and making noise louder than it should be. I had to step harder on the brake immediately to stop the car to avoid hitting the car in the front. It wont happen often but have already happened 3 times (may 28th, June 16th and June 18th).

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2004

Purchased car with 10 miles on it. Failed to start upon leaving dealership. Apparently loose wire. Salesman wiggled with cable and car started. Every day since the purchase of car, I would have a false start requiring a second or even third try to start the car. 25 days later, 1200 miles later, the car died and was towed to the nearest Honda dealer. Apparently, the battery was not installed properly and all cables surrounding the battery was loose and the headlamp cover was loose also. There is clunk noise when you initially put the car in drive and was told by the dealer that this is normal noise. There is a metallic rub when depressing on the brake and there is loud brake noise also. Dealer said this was normal also, but I'm not so sure of this.
