5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

This vehicle and model has had 2 recalls regarding aftermarket parts in steering wheels, holes in leaking hoses and valves and fire hazardous. The second one is regarding low beam lights and very poor visibility, increasing probabilities of a crash. I have called american Honda to honor the repairs of this 2 recalls and they do not want to do it, because the car is already 14 years old. So I am driving a faulty vehicle, and to make matters worse I am already disable from 2 car accidents (as a passenger) one of the recalls, the steering wheel, was already taken care of in the past, but it still persist now as I bought it. 2 leaking steering wheel hoses. And the head lights haven't been done ever! my car has already been diagnosed by a Honda dealer specialist and american Honda does not want to assume the repairs of these 2 recalls. American Honda does not make themselves responsible for their own faulty vehicles, passed a certain time! where are my rights??????.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2019

Ignition is locking up at times or not turning on at all.

7 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

I was driving down a city road and the vehicle started to accelerate on its own and it did not want to shift gear. I was able to apply brakes but the car continued to accelerate to very high rpms. I had no choice but to turn the shut off the car midway and pull-over. While stationary and car shut off on side of the road I tried to turn it back it and it automatically jumped to high rpm and was never able to change gears from park to drive or anything because the car would take off. After 45 minutes of letting the car figure itself out, it stopped revving too high rpm and was able to go back home. The issue has stopped but now when I start the car up and switch from park to drive the car has a delayed engagement. Also, now my steering wheel locks up ever once in a while and when making turns randomly. I have checked power steering and no leaks or any sign on a repair that needs to be completed.

8 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2018

Takata recall air bags should be reinstalled in all vehicles of the year that was being recalled. I have a 2004 Honda Accord sedan and I find it applauding that responsibility isn't being accepted 100%. If one air bag is defected then they all should and could be, with that being said I urge them to honor the faulty equipment and fix it instead of 'playing with people's lives' and wait I to see if the worse happens when the air bags are supposed to be a safety item in case of a accident in which they will release.

9 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

Problem power steering feed hose leak.

10 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2016

Picking up son from pre-k and car key would not turn off. After messing with the key and juggling it for over an hour, I was able to turn it off but it would not turn on again. I took it to the dealer and was told it could be the ignition lock cylinder. The vehicle was stationary at the time.

11 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2016

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. While driving 10 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver and a squealing noise was heard from the front passenger side tire. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and observed that the power steering hose was leaking. The failure occurred constantly. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 12v222000 (steering). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 198,678.

12 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2016

Jan. 2015 traveling at 25 to 30 mph, driver front lower ball joint separated causing wheel to turn sideways in wheel well, which resulted in disabling vehicle, seperated cv shaft and fender damage. No injuries and had to have towed. May 2015 traveling 20 to 25 mph, passenger lower ball joint separated causing wheel to turn sideways in wheel well, resulted in disabling vehicle and damage to fender. Local police were called, no injuries and vehicle towed. July 2016 backing out of driveway, passenger front lower ball joint separated, causing wheel to turn sideways in wheel well, resulted in disabling vehicle, damage to fender, separated cv shaft, and dented the oil pan, no injuries. There is a fault in the design of the lower ball joint placement, the weight of the vehicle is naturally causing the ball to press against the retaining edge of the socket, resulting in metal on metal contact causing the retaining edge to wear resulting in separation of the ball joint. The only way to correct this would be to redesign the front suspension steering knuckle and lower control arm. The ball joint should be pressed into the socket with weight on the wheels not pulling it apart. My only suggestions until something is done about this, is go to a service garage and have them check the ball joints with a pry bar between the steering knuckle and lower control arm, if there is movement have it replaced and keep your receipts. Just shaking the wheel by hand isn't enough to see the movement. Do not pick the vehicle up by the lower control arm, it can result in control arm bushing separation.

13 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2015

My 2004 Honda Accord had the battery, alternator, ac filter, and oil changed by the Honda dealer. After picking the car up from the Honda dealer, it was driven approximately 10 miles on the interstate. After exiting the highway, while coming to a stop, the car burst into flames. The fire department responded and extinguished the blaze. The car was a total loss. The dealer stated that the cause of the fire was a failure of the power steering system.

14 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2015

While driving the vehicle at night, I experienced a spontaneous total electrical failure when switching the dash control which powers the digital thermometer/odometer control. This effected headlights, steering and braking, as if the car was turned completely off, but I was able to coast toward the road shoulder.

15 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2014

I was driving my normal route and coming up on my right turn. The dashboard lights and all interior lights of my car went black and I was unable to steer my car. Within seconds I tried to brake. My pedal went directly to the floor and my brakes never engaged. I had no steering and no brakes going 55mph (forcing me through a red light). I was t-boned by a SUV at 60mph (no skid marks for either of us)- a full impact crash. My side of the car was destroyed, my car sent spinning into and taking out a pole, and then my car spun down an embankment. The next thing I remember is being cut out of my car and then nothing past that. I spent the next 5-6 days at 2 different hospitals. I suffered lung/heart/body trauma (especially due to airbag and seatbelt) and a major concussion. Wherever the airbag hit and seatbelt lay- I'm a rainbow of colors. I am looking at a lengthy recovery and unable to return to work for a few weeks, unable to take college finals, nor can I return to college next semester due to heart trauma. My husband and I had had moments of brake and steering problems spastically/occasionally in the last few months. Each time we took in our car we were told "we can't find any problems". And the notorious: "there are no recalls for your brakes". We have four children and this incident has affected each of us.

16 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

The power steering hoses developed a leak causing turns to be very difficult. The car is a 4 cylinder. Looked up recalls and it seems like they recalled the hoses for the 6 cylinder and not the 4. Losing power steering in a turn can be pretty dangerous.

17 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2014

I have noticed that when I try to turn on car there is a lost in connection and car won't turn on I have to turn the steering wheel in order for car to finally turn on. I think there is a problem with the ignition switch. I have done research and seems like other Honda owners have had the same problem. I'm just afraid that car will stop in the road while I'm driving.

18 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2013

I received a recall notice for my 2004 Honda Accord. I work very long days and have very little time to get this recall completed. The problem is that the closest authorized Honda dealer is 70 miles away. This makes getting the work done very difficult. My complaint is that there should be circumstances that Honda allows others to fix these issues. Now, I may never be able to get this fixed and who knows what may happen to me or my car if that is the case. . .

19 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2013

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the steering malfunctioned and the passenger rear wheel seized causing her to lose control of the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 119,000.

20 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2013

I was driving on the interstate when all of a sudden I was no longer able to accelerate. The car jerked when I tried to accelerate or brake. I was able to steer it off onto the side of the road. After taking it in to get it looked at, I was told it is the transmission. According to several articles online and mechanic at the shop I took it too, 2004 Honda Accords are known for having weak transmissions. It was so unexpected and I take car of my car. I felt completely unsafe trying to get it off the interstate going 20 miles an hour as it jerked along and apparently people already know about this issue?? I have just had the car for a year now and bought it from a Honda dealership. Not a word was said to me about the issues with these models or safety recalls for several Honda models made in 2004 - but apparently not mine.

21 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2012

I was driving the highway and merging on an uphill ramp, the transmission raced and the car lost speed. About 20 miles later, I could feel something wrong with maintaining my speed and there was hesitation. Another 20 miles later, I lost all forward movement in drive and left the highway. I was able to go another few miles on a side street in 2nd gear and then the car stalled in the middle of the street. The transmission is completely lost.

22 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2012

I was driving 55 mph. As I attempted to change lanes, the car veered right to left uncontrollably. The steering wheel turned back and forth, and I could not gain control of it. I crossed 4 lanes of traffic, went over a median and hit a brick retaining wall, and my car was turned around to face oncoming traffic when it finally stopped. Updated 11/19/12 updated 12/4/2012.

23 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2012

I had been driving 10 min. (70mph) on the interstate when I went to pass another motorist as soon as I turned on my blinker the car started to shutdown. After several minutes I discovered that when I applied the brakes the car would also make an sudden jerk and begin to shutdown. The car would drive completely normal as long as you did not activate either the blinkers or the brakes. I tried several other electrical accessories and none of them seemed to effect the car. After driving for several hours we exited the interstate and put the car in neutral after engaging the brake for several seconds the car died . When I took my foot off the brake it immediately restarted and the problem stopped.

24 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2012

Today was just another day to work. I have taken this road to work for past two years with me driving. First you get off the ramp, then stop at a stop sign, then you pass under the bridge to follow the straight road to work. However, today it was different. I first took the exit ramp and went to the end of it. Stopped at the stop sign. Checked both sides to see if it was clear for me to proceed and go ahead with making a turn. It was clear so I made a left turn and went straight. However, within next 5 yards after going straight my car's steering wheel started to shake and car pulled to the left. I could not control the car since all this happened so fast and my car hit the huge cement pole which is the base of the bridge. After talking with my husband and many others, they believe that car has somehow malfunctioned. The two theories we have is either steering wheel getting locked or left wheel giving out in some manner. This was not a new road for me. I was not a phone. I was not texting. I was not distracted in anyway. The car just had its own mind today and somehow it pulled to the left. I do not know if there are others who have had this problem, but I wanted to tell my story since I am not hurt as much. If this happened while being faster, this could have been fatal.

25 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2012

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the technician refused to provide any assistance since they had already performed the repairs specified to the recall campaign. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 88,000 and the current mileage was 91,000.

26 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2010

While driving on a rainy day the battery signal flashes for a couple of seconds and the steering gets locked for approx 3 sec and after 3 sec it gets back to normal. It usually happens while turning and on a rainy day. This could result in a situation of life and death. Initially we thought it is just one off situation but these days the problem is increasing. We have got it checked at 2 places including pepboys and they could not figure out the problem.

27 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2009

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 63,000.

28 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2009

I bought my car new from the dealer. It is a four door, within a month of owning the car the cable to open the door from the inside broke on the rear left door. Today the cable broke on the driver side door so it is impossible to open the door from the inside of the car. After looking at the cable it doesn't look strong enough to last for any length of time and being unable to get out in an emergency could be very dangerous. The car has also pulled to the right since the day I bought it but after taking to the dealer more then 4 times with no results I just learned to live with it.

29 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2008

Oil consumption burns oil & engine clatters noisy valves & minor problem front end feels un stable Honda Accord 2004 v tech while I brought concerns to service I requested engine compression test and check spark plugs for any oil leaks inconsiderate of problem service dept did no compression test for engine only did a oil consumption test which I was told to pay for I still have papers of test the engine problem technician is only is willing to road test my automobile and tell me he feels no problem I know very well when I've been given the run around after that tech says compared to his 94 pathfinder it feels great !!! I don't like my time to be wasted but these tech's are pros at getting their clients frustrated to the point they know you will never be talking to them about that problem again. In my opinion they are so well versed at this type of professional job description ( con) this practice commonplace in the trade and compensated at the end of the month I know well after the fact its 2010 and the automobile has 122,000 miles and now consumes almost 2 quarts every 1000 miles and the engine is probably going to die soon and I believe your dept has many complaints of this nature. And as the freedom of information a. C. T. Please disclose how many autos that match the make & model have these issues thank you.
