1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2025

Several times when driving at speeds of 50-60mph with my foot steady on the accelerator, the car will suddenly start to slow down so that I am going only, say, 40 mph. Either at the same time or shortly after this occurs, multiple warning lights/messages appear on the dash: collision mitigation system, brake system, acc system all appear and messages say they are not working, which is true, although the brakes seemed to still work fine. When this occurred the first time, I was able to pull off the highway and stop, unsure of what to do. I continued to try and drive because I was in the middle of a long trip. The slow downs kept happening intermittently, but I discovered that if I pumped the accelerator a couple of times, the speed would be restored. However, this was still a dangerous situation because I never knew when it would occur, so I stayed in the right lane and had to avoid any situations requiring confident acceleration, such as crossing a busy street. In total, this has occurred while I’m driving approximately 10-15 times, but the warning lights may or may not go away after a while, or after stopping and re-starting the car. I took car to dar cars Honda fairfax (virginia) dealer who updated software and said it should be fixed. Next day as I was driving about 50 mph, the slowdown occurred again and the warning lights came on. I drove back to the dealer, during which time the slowdown occurred one more time with me pumping accelerator to get power back, and left it with them. They could not reproduce the symptoms. I had them keep and drive it another day to see if they could make the slowdown occur, but it did not, so I picked up the car. However, I feel that this is a dangerous situation and I can no longer drive this car confidently on long trips or in situations where I need acceleration that I can rely on.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2025

Transmission does a lot of “gear searching” especially in bumper to bumper highway traffic, causing excessive braking or accelerating to compensate for the transmission feeling like it’s about to stall.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2025

The cvt is failing with normal driving at 90k miles.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2025

On Sunday, March 30th, while driving on the highway, the car jerked and a hard vibration was felt before the engine died. The orange engine light flashed two or three times on the instrument panel but that was it. The owners manual states that a flashing orange engine light indicates a misfire. No other lights prior to that moment had illuminated on the instrument panel. The car is a 2017 Accord sport with approximately 101k miles. Purchased in November 2021, this is the first time there’s ever been a problem and my car is maintained regularly. The car was towed to a local mechanic and I was told there was a misfire on cylinder 3, the valve spring is broken, the valve is bent, and the timing chain is loose. I was told I need a new engine. I don’t understand what happened because there was no warning or indication that anything was wrong. The safety concern is that the car died while driving on the highway and the vibration and jerking was scary trying to control the car while traveling at high speeds. I called Honda directly and I was told that my VIN isn’t included in any recalls so there’s nothing they can do to help. I know there was a service bulletin in 2019 for the cam chain tensioner but I don’t know if this car was serviced since I bought it in 2021. I can’t afford to replace the engine and I’m still making payments. My VIN isn’t included with the fuel pump or oil pump recalls despite now including the l4 2. 0 engines. This is my third Honda and I’ve never had anything like this happen before. The customer service rep said there was nothing they could do to help after confirming that my VIN wasn’t included in any of the recalls. I had the car towed to a Honda dealership earlier this week for a deeper look into how and why this happened and the tech said the engine suffered a catastrophic failure. He also stated that he’s never seen anything like this before - referring to the broken valve spring. Valve springs are not wear and tear items.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2025

On Friday, [xxx], while leaving a mcdonald’s in charlotte, nc, my car began to slow down and for different lights came on on my dashboard. I was unable to go over 45 miles per hour but was able to get my car to my sisters home that was a few miles away from where I started having car trouble. I was able to have the car towed to hendrick Honda in charlotte nc where they determined my car’s high pressure fuel pump went out. There are recalls on other 2017 Honda Accords but not mine. I get routine oil changes and have never had an issue like this before. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2024

While driving on the highway with my family on Tuesday, [xxx] the continuously variable transmission (cvt) failed and created a dangerous and hazardous situation for my family and others on the road. The d3 warning light and check engine light appeared and simultaneously the vehicle shifted to a lower gear. The vehicle was only operable at a lower speed and gear. We called the nearest Honda dealership for guidance, and they advised us to proceed slowly to the dealership. We drove the very stressful distance with our hazard lights on the entire way while we drove at a lower rate of speed on the highway. This slow rate of speed also posed a hazard as well. The vehicle was serviced and inspected by the manchester Honda in manchester, CT, and they determined that a transmission replacement was necessary due to an internal failure of transmission assy causing drivability concern. The vehicle had only 69,382 miles and was properly maintained. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

7 Power Train problem

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2024

Driving on freeway, car went from 70mph to 40mph and would not accelerate, the gas pedal went down rpm went up, but car continued to slow down. Code came on dash, pulled over to not have accident. Honda TSB 23-076 torque converter, but they said will have to pay for transmission, which is part of transmission, and I have to pay deductible. What deductible on warranty??.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2024

My Honda Accord has 68,000 miles on it and the cvt transmission is failing. It's jerking, especially in low gears and rides rough. I've been doing some research on the cvt transmission and it's not good. I've been to two dealers a total of 4 times. Because the diagnostic does not register a problem, nor does engine light come on, I've been told transmission is fine. .

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2024

2017 Honda Accord first noticed a tachometer that at town/hwy speeds would fluctuate a few rpm (surge and reduce) going down the road. Took to Honda dealer and they stated flushing the transmission fluid and to do so every 30k and have continued to do so, the surge and reduce subsided but, we also notice a loud cold start tic in the engine. After starting up cold, and engaging in drive the vehicle jerks and feels to stall suddenly causing forward motion of driver to the extent that the seat belt locks until the engine is normal temperature. This is a major problem in traffic with other vehicles around for your car to suddenly jerk back and may even cause rear end accidents from other vehicles behind putting driver and surrounding vehicles/drivers at risk for an accident. This tic and jerking in this 2017 Honda Accord v6 ex-l started at around 120k miles and has continued to tic and jerk until the engine is a normal temperature tac surge/reduce has not been as prevalent with transmission fluid flushing. When vehicle is up to full temp the tic and jerking subside until normal temp the jerking/stalling continues at any rate of speed. There have been no warning lamps or messages since the onset of this problem. This 2017 Accord currently has 150k.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2024

Honda issued a recall for the torque converter on my 2017 Honda Accord. I had received the paperwork in June of this year and have been battling with them ever since. I had to have my transmission replaced due to repeated issues with my torque converter code appearing and lose of power over a year ago. After losing power going uphill several times and being fearful of causing a crash, I had to have it repaired. In January 2024, I paid an independent car repair facility(dynotrans in temecula, CA) $4,200 to replace my entire transmission because of this recurring issue. I have submitted the receipts from the facility to Honda and because they requested "proof" of our cash payment, screenshots of both mine and my husband's bank statements showing cash withdrawals(since we paid the owner in cash in order to get a cash discount), and Honda is denying to reimburse us for this repair, even though it is a nationwide recall, a known issue, that I had paid for out of my pocket to have repaired prior to them ever issuing a recall due to this recurrent issue with the torque converter. I feel like this is an illegitimate denial and therefore am filing this complaint. Sandra p. Is the representative that I have been in contact with from Honda.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2023

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Accord. The contact stated that an abnormal knocking noise began to emit from the vehicle as the check engine light appeared on the instrument panel. The contact also stated that the vehicle began to lose power upon depression of the accelerator pedal as the dashboard began to shake. The contact managed to drive the vehicle to a dealer where they diagnosed the vehicle with a fouled spark plug; he was also informed that the piston rings needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified and he was given a case number. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2023

2017 Honda Accord ex-l 4 door sedan 4 cylinder 2. 4l while driving my car I noticed shaking then my car dropped down to 10mph on the highway. When I pressed the pedal to speed up my car started jerking and did not go any faster. All the lights came on my dashboard including abs. Me and my child safety was at risk because I was doing 10mph on a 45mph highway. We could have been hit. I took my car to the dealer they told me I'm not the only one having this problem with the abs module and the part is on back order. So that mean there is a defect in the part that's why they cant get everybody need it. I brought it to the dealer they told me its nothing they can do. Not even test the part. I had a message about vehicle stability. Maybe about 2months ago.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2021

My 2017 Honda Accord hybrid was having an issue where several warning lights would light up on the dashboard, so I took it in to auburn Honda, located at 1801 grass valley hwy, auburn, CA 95603, to get the car serviced under warranty. They made the necessary repair, which was the replacement of a battery component and I picked up the car on 2/2/21. After about 45 minutes of driving the car with no stops immediately after picking up the car, the warning lights returned and the car suddenly shut off. When I tried to restart the car, smoke billowed from the rear. Shortly thereafter, the entire car was engulfed in flames. This incident occurred more than a year ago and ever since I have been trying to get the proper individual or individuals to accept responsibility for this incredibly dangerous and costly incident, for which we have still received no compensation. My insurance provider, atlantic casualty, and auburn Honda's insurance provider, federated insurance, both sent out fire inspectors of their own Accord and they concluded that the battery malfunctioning caused the fire. At this time, the car was at auburn Honda and the inspection was conducted there. My most recent step and what has led me to file this complaint is that I made a claim months ago with american Honda motor corporation on the advice of auburn Honda to find a resolution to this incident. They have been uncooperative and refuse to accept that the fire was caused by the battery. After the car was moved to a junk yard and almost a year had passed from the date of the incident, they sent out their own fire inspector who concluded that the cause of the fire was not the battery. This is on a car that has already been inspected and changed hands and locations several times at this point. They refuse to accept responsibility despite the fact that two independent fire inspectors already concluded that the cause was the battery, which is supplied and approved by american Honda motor corporation.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2021

Was driving on the highway when vehicle_ 2017 Accord hybrid_ its speed was about increasing to around 55mph from about 40mph the vehicle suddenly lost power. The oil and battery indicator lights came on red on the instrument cluster and it stalled_ pressing the acceleration paddle couldn't make the vehicle move any faster. Put hazard lights on and moved to the side of the highway. The error code high voltage battery charge too low; vehicle cannot start appeared on the instrument cluster. When you push the start button to start the vehicle, same error codes appear (hvbc high voltage battery charge too low, vehicle cannot start with the oil and battery indicators on instrument cluster lit on red). When you put the gear in drive it wouldn't move, nor when you put it in reverse the vehicle wouldn't back up. You could hear a loud revving noise when you put the vehicle in neutral. Got the vehicle towed to the dealer. Noticed 2014-15 Accord hybrid was recalled for hybrid system may go into fail-safe mode. Production was stopped in 2016. But this is a 2017 Honda Accord hybrid with same issue from previous generation.

Feel vibration during coasting & then going up in speed.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2017 Honda Accord. While driving 80 mph on the highway, the speed reduced significantly. The contact pulled over and attempted to restart the vehicle. The vehicle took awhile to restart, hesitated, and did not smoothly shift gears to accelerate. The vehicle jerked and struggled to gain speed. The vehicle was driven slowly until it finally reached 65 mph; however, it would decelerate on any hill and struggle to gain speed. All the instrument panel indicators illuminated. Team Honda (6363 siegen ln, baton rouge, la 70809, (225) 298-4100) scheduled an appointment for later in the week. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 66,000. The VIN was unknown.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2019

Electrical system failure. Had to replace the battery and that didn't work. The safety features on the car are no longer operating (abs, lkas, acc). These features all stopped working while driving on the highway. This was terrifying and could be an issue if someone is used to having these features available and all of a sudden they don't work. If a driver is dependent on these safety features after driving for several years with having them on, a driver could potentially cause harm to themselves or others if these features are suddenly not functioning correctly. When I went to the dealer they said it wasn't covered under the car warranty. Car is only 2 years old and has under 60k miles.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2019

For the second time in less than two months, the emissions/electrical/check engine on the 2017 Honda Accord is an issue. I have researched the internet and I am finding that this is a common error on the 2016 Honda's and newer. The emission error system has come on again. The last time I had this problem the converter had to be replaced. The system error comes on when driving when raining, which makes me believe that there is also a electrical problem as well. I find this concerning on a new, 100 percent dealer maintained vehicle. There is obviously an electrical/emission problem in the system and it requires an independent party to review. The tech states no issue can arise from having the check engine/emission light on but the car does tend to lose power during these issues. Honda owners should not be held liable for manufacture errors.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2019

We recently purchased a 2017 Honda Accord ex-l v6 at a dealership in duluth georgia. We traded a 2007 Honda Accord after having had an excellent experience with it. This nearly new vehicle is different from the 2007. It is mostly good but I discovered what I consider a safety issue. When the brake is applied, to reduce speed or come to a full stop, there is nearly a half second delay after lifting your foot from the brake pedal before the accelerator pedal becomes functional. If you happened to depress the accelerator prior to the end of the delay, the vehicle lurches forward and you could impact the vehicle ahead of you, or if you are moving forward and brake again to offset the forward lurch, the vehicle behind you could assume you were moving forward and rear end you because you braked unexpectedly. This situation could also be a problem when stopped on a hill either up or down. The delay creates a moment when the vehicle is out of control and unsafe. The fix could possible be to reduce the time of the lag or eliminate the lag situation completely in the computer module. I hope you will look into this concern!.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2018

The contact owns a 2017 Honda Accord. The contact stated while accelerating from a stop light, the vehicle stalled. The contact continued to depress the accelerator pedal before the vehicle accelerated as needed. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2017

We financed a 2017 Honda Accord sport cvt on July 17, 2017. We have noticed various issues with the lag/hesitation upon accelerating as well as braking and steering. We searched online to see if anyone else was experiencing the same issues and found multiple complaints revolving around this model vehicle. Less than 11,000 miles, we noticed the front passenger brakes were getting really low and wearing unevenly compared to the other three, I. E. Screeching; which was odd and concerning since it had 11,000 miles and only one side was worn down. December 2017, the passenger front brakes became so low, when applying the brakes there was a metal on metal, grinding noise. We visually inspected the brakes and could see the brake pads on the passenger side were almost non-existent, as well as the wear on the rotors. We took the car to the dealership where we purchased the vehicle on 12-12-17 and they claimed the brake pads were wearing evenly/normal; the other service station at this location agreed that its not normal for the car the have less than 12000 miles for the first brake pads to be changed let alone worn unevenly. The concern wasn't the brake pads being changed, it is the mechanical function of the piston and caliper was causing the problem, or another underlying issue; having less than 12,000 miles isn't right. They didn't care, thought we wanted brakes changed for free. We filed a claim with Honda regarding the safety and wear of the brakes. The dealership replaced the brake pads, turned the rotators. The problem is still there and the piston getting "hung" may be the underlining reason for why the car lags when trying to accelerate. If it is depressed, its possible the brakes are wearing down while accelerating. Safety is our first concern, and we feel there is a deeper problem that should be looked at. Will speak in further detail regarding these and other issues.
