Car lost power on freeway, had the car towed to local Honda. After several hours of sitting at dealership and talking to several different employees. One employee comes back to tell me the head gasket was blown and needed repaired. And that this is a common issue he has been seeing in this make/model of car.
In the past 2 months my car starting having rough idle issues. As recommended by the dealership, I replaced the head gasket as they said it was leaking coolant into the cylinder causing the rough idle. Almost immediately after paying for this, the dashboard lit up like a christmas tree with multiple warnings and the car went into limp mode, lost acceleration and would have been extremely dangerous had we been on the interstate or multi lane road. Took it back to the dealership, ran another diagnostic and determined the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. These repairs cost over $5,000. Recalls have already been put in place for models around this one and Honda should acknowledge these problems as it is wide spread.
I have taken my car to the Honda dealership on multiple occasions because my car has stopped accelerating while driving on the interstate. The car will flash the check engine light and completely stop accelerating while driving. I was first told it was the fuel pump that was recalled and waiting over a year on the recalled part and multiple times breaking down while driving they finally replaced the part. After the dealership replaced fuel pump I continued to have problems unfortunately happening more often and worse than before replacing the fuel pump. I was then told my car was misfiring and needing a tune up which would involve replacing all four coil packs and spark plugs. I replaced all of these recommended parts with no resolution to my problem. I have since be told by the dealership my car needs all four fuel injectors replaced after running the diagnostic tests. After doing research it seems to be a common problem with this make and model car. I can’t believe with as many cars with this same issue and the safety issues with completely stalling in the middle of traffic there are no recalls on these cars.
My vehicle had been running fine up until the dash lit up, engine check turned on along with the tire pressure sensor and as of right now my car does not accelerate.
1. Component: the engine head gasket and the combustion system (specifically cylinder 2). Specifics: a leak-down test confirmed a failure in cylinder 2, leading to coolant intrusion. This was initially masked by a water pump code, but after the water pump was replaced and the code returned, a borescope confirmed "clean" pistons (steam-cleaned by coolant) and tap scarring. Availability: yes, the vehicle and all diagnostic records are available for inspection. 2. Emergency maneuvers: on multiple occasions, the car entered "limp mode" while driving 70–75 mph on the freeway. This caused a sudden, dangerous drop in speed, forcing me to maneuver through high-speed traffic to reach the median/suicide lane. Stranded: the vehicle overheated 5 times in one trip, leaving me vulnerable on the side of a busy freeway. 3. Yes. An independent shop confirmed the failure via a leak-down test, a borescope inspection, and physical analysis of the spark plugs. They confirmed that despite the computer throwing a water pump code, the mechanical failure is the head gasket. 4. Status: it has been inspected by an independent service center. I am now using their findings to pursue a lawsuit/claim against Honda for selling a vehicle with a pre-existing internal engine defect. 5. Timeline: symptoms began in April 2024 (two months after purchase). Initial signs: an "emission system" warning light appeared. The diagnostic code indicated a water pump failure, which was replaced in April. Recurring symptoms: in November, the car suffered multiple misfires and "limp mode. " in March, the "emission system" light and the same water pump code returned, but the shop confirmed the pump was functional and the true cause was the head gasket leak into the cylinders.
On January 22, 2025, I was driving at highway speed and suddenly my car seemed to lag in power. It slowed from about 60mph to 40mph and pressing on the gas did not do anything. The check engine light began flashing. I felt like it would continue to slow down and it was rush hour. I managed to safely exit the freeway and parked the car. I turned it off, waited a moment, turned it back on. It seemed ok so I drove carefully using back streets to the local Honda dealership. They kept the car for 2 days and ran tests but nothing showed on their computer and they could not replicate the problem. They gave me the car back. I saw another recall today for other models of Honda that have this exact problem. My car has 41700 miles on it. The weather was cold but clear. This is the first time this has happened.
Mid October 2023, we driving on the freeway and the car started to slow down on its own. We could not accelerate to match the speed of cars around us or to get the speed limits in a 55 to 65 zone, making it dangerous for us and others to continue driving on the freeway at extremely slow/low speeds. We towed it the dealership, who said it was defective spark plugs. This car was only 4 years old with extremely low millage and the spark plugs should've last a lot longer. They changed the spark plugs under warranty. Late November 2024, we were getting off the freeway and the check engine light came on but there were no service codes. Everything was running normally except for the engine was making a loud noise. We parked at a shopping center and approximately 30 minutes later, restarted the car and all these messages and icons appeared for: vehicle stability assistant system problem, hill start assistant problem, acc, collision mitigation breaking system problem, road departure mitigation system problem, emissions system problem, tpms, brake system problem, electric power steering system problem. Towed it dealership and after an hour of diagnostics testing, they said it’s the spark plugs again! just a little over a year and 2 out of 4 spark plugs are bad again. This is not right. We hardly drive this car and it’s only a little over a year since the spark plugs were replaced and a little over 5 years since we got the car brand new. Spark plugs are supposed to last 10 years or 100,000 miles and we’re not close to either. This time they said it's not covered under warranty and is over $800.
For the past 3-4 months it started off with shaking. Once I would try to accelerate it it would choke. Took it to the dealer ship and they had it for almost 2 months. Supposedly the engiens head gasket tend to blow for those type of cars model and year. I was called yesterday that it was ready after almost 2 months. Not 3 hours went by and the issue started to happened again. I have my kids if a accident would of happened my kids would of been injured. If it has happened to many Honda Accords 2019 1. 5 sport why not do a recall on it. It could cause my life my kids or someone else in the road.
My dash is a christmas tree, been to 3 shops. Many codes are popping up ans showing needs turbocharger. Honda wants almost 3000 to fix. Drives fine but so many lights. I have tons of codes popping up. So many other car owners with same issue.
I received a letter in the mail stating that my fuel injections had a recall. 2024 Feb-Mar. Letter stated that I would not be able to get it fit until the fall because Honda parts were backed up. At about may all my dash board lights were on, check engine, tps, tire pressure. I assumed it was from the recall. At that time I had about 120,000 or 130,000 on my car, I'll have to check my oil change reports. Nov 2024 I was finally about to get my fuel injection fix, per the dealership. Lights were still on afterwards. Now February 2025, I get it check out, I need a new turbo and an engine because my gasket has blown. About December of 2024 I noticed I had issues with accelerating. My car jerks causing me some safety issues. This is my only car. I am afraid to drive it.
No warning lamps were on. Took the car to Honda of murfreesboro TN I was told I had a blown head gasket fluid around cylinder 2 but my car has never ran out never had a issue I started to hear liquid bubble in dashboard turbo had to be replaced didn't fix the issue spark plugs are being replaced often to keep lamps off and car functions working properly antifreeze is being monitored because it's burning rapidly car goes into limp mode when you get up to certain speed on highway or when you go to pull out into traffic.
For more than the past two years I have been experiencing unexpected braking while driving my 19 Accord. There have been probably 20-30 random incidents. . . . Generally when I am changing lanes. . I think? the braking lasts for 2-3 seconds and then all returns to normal. This has happened when other cars are near and when there is no other car ahead or behind. On at least a couple occasions I received a nasty horn from the car behind me due to my unexpected braking and more than once an uncomplimentary comment from my wife about my driving skill. Several times I feared being rear ended. I explained this braking action as my failure to use the turn signal when changing lanes. Upon reconsidering and after reading the recent NHTSA alert, this is a sensor/software problem in the esc/emergency braking system. Please give this issue your prompt attention. I am the retired engineering manager of the braking system subsidiary of Honda motors.
Not only does the infotainment screen sometimes black out when I am navigating, but the emergency braking sometimes kicks in on the interstate highway when there is no car in front of me or none on either side. I also get occasional coffee cup icons with a driver alert signal even when I am driving in a straight line, yet conscious of the need to steer a bit to tell the system I am alert. The alerts happen at highway speeds. This has happened quite a few times. The dealer's only response was that Honda is aware and blames the problem on using the cord that must be used to activate carplay and the navigation system!.
Shifts from drive to neutral when shifter is slightly contacted, such as removing a water bottle from cupholder near shifter console. This has happened at least 3 times including while driving and when idling. If this happens at 60mph you will slow down to a stop without brake lights lit, possibly in the middle of a highway, may result in rear end accident. I was lucky to have noticed and was able to shift back to drive without accident occurring. I am emailing service department at burns Honda regarding this problem today, as they are currently closed for thanksgiving.
On the highway going 75mph the collision mitigation beeped and locked up the brakes dropping my speed below 50mph before letting off. There was a car in the lane to the right of me on a straight section of the highway but was not moving into my lane. Luckily there was no one behind me.
Collision mitigation system problem for about 45 miles in use.
Driving in inclement weather snow/freezing rain. The Honda sense radar will become covered in snow and or ice causing it to light up the dashboard with warning lights. None of the Honda safety features work (adaptive cruise, lane assist, automatic braking) even if you are not using them at the time they all shut down. The worst being the automatic braking could cause wrecks if it hasn't already. When the dash lights up it starts beeping constantly and you have to close out 3-4 notifications before it will stop blinking. Has happened on highway as well as just normal driving state roads. Has happened to me 3 different times. Car has 12000 miles.
The car increased speed on its own when turning and moving into a parking spot along the curb at the airport.

We bought a brand new Honda Accord 2019(lx) on June 29, 2019. Not even a month later I. E. On Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 7:49 pm my Honda Accord stopped in the middle of the highway due to unknown reason. Behind us was a truck and we were at 70 mph highway, we were about to be hit either by the truck or by the car on the right lane. Thanks to the truck driver and the person driving that SUV who stopped in time. We merely escaped death like situation. Post that I called Honda road side assistance and they asked me to move to a safe location and call them again. I tried to drive the car again and drove couple of miles where my car finally stopped moving and smoke started coming from the exhaust. Scared we quickly evacuated the car and moved to a safe location at 8:23 pm. Post that cops came to ask why we stopped there, we explained them the situation. We were told to stop the engine and wait there till the towing car arrived. I had so much trust in Honda and we are so traumatized with this situation and I still can't believe how this happened. This is a brand new car with total miles of 657 miles. I didn't expect this from a brand-new car. We were lucky enough to escape death on the highway. We were exhausted and terrified with this event. Yesterday Honda service center company called and told that the the turbo charger failed internally, causing oil to go into the exhaust system. This caused contamination of the catalytic converter and damaged the oxygen sensors. I am not sure if I can or anyone can trust Honda ever again. If something would have happened to me or my family will Honda be responsible for this. Question is do you still trust Honda ?.
I started to notice months ago, when stopped or idling, my vehicle begins to misfire or the rpm accelerates. Took it in the dealership multiple times, they can't seem to diagnose the issue. This is a major safety issue, I have almost hit several pedestrians and other vehicles due to this issue.
On April 13, 2019, my brand new, 2019 Honda Accord sport 2. 0t on the highway going 55 mph, with mere/mild rain brought an alert of collision mitigation warning onto the dash. The car has since alerted me of the same problem about 5 times, in both wet and dry highway conditions. When taken to the dealer, they said the car had no records of the alert. Not knowing if the Honda sensing system will work is very alarming and I have become scared to drive the vehicle as I can not trust that the vehicle will perform as advertised. I am paying for a service that is not safe to use or not safe for other motorists as many other Accord and Honda owners have reported the same on their cars.
