Automatic Emergency Braking problems of the 2022 Honda Accord - part 1

I am reporting two safety-related issues with my 2022 Honda Accord hybrid. 1. Head gasket failure at approximately 93,500 miles, the head gasket failed without any prior warning signs. The vehicle had been regularly maintained at Honda dealerships, with one service done by a third-party mechanic around 87,000 miles. There were no engine warning lights or coolant leak warnings before the incident. The engine temperature warning suddenly appeared while driving, and I immediately stopped the car. A Honda dealership confirmed the head gasket failure and quoted over $4,000 for repairs. This kind of major engine failure is highly unusual for such a new vehicle and raises serious concerns about long-term engine durability or possible design flaws in the cooling system or head gasket components. 2. False activation of automatic emergency braking (aeb) the vehicle’s automatic emergency braking system frequently activates or issues a warning while driving, even when there are no obstacles or vehicles nearby. This has happened multiple times and creates a sudden sense of panic, increasing the risk of being rear-ended or losing control of the vehicle. Both issues suggest potential safety defects in this model. I respectfully request that the national highway traffic safety administration investigate whether similar complaints have been reported for the 2022 Honda Accord hybrid, as these failures could pose significant safety risks.

Honda Accord hybrid touring edition 2022 [xxx] [xxx] complete brake system failure while pulling in to a starbucks parking lot in wayzata, mn. Braking system did not react or stop the car. Automatic braking system did not function either. As a result the car collided into a my burger wall. No dashboard warning lights. After collision police and ambulance arrived on the scene. Driver was taken to urgent care after sustaining soft tissue injuries affecting clavicle, sternum, neck and back. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. My car won’t start it’s saying my brake system. It will turn on but won’t drive.

Woke up and started my car, all the lights were on including engine light. No adapter cruise, steering light was on. Screen also was saying avoid speeding. Every notification was telling me go to the dealer ship. I took it howdy Honda in texas and they said we will need to do a diagnostic and it was for 255 for to see what the problem was. They looked and said I had code for po172(rich) and misfire on p0301 told me I need to replace fuel injectors. Which cost 1933$. Which is way too much and fuel injectors a labor should be covered under federal emissions warranty but they said no. So I am filing a recall for fuel injectors for my 2022 Honda Accord sports se. I am unable to drive because it’s in limp mode. I also have documentation from howdy for quote.

The contact owned a 2022 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving 68-70 mph, the vehicle stopped abruptly, causing another vehicle to crash into the rear passenger's side of the vehicle, and a second vehicle to crash into the rear of the vehicle, causing the trunk to be pushed inside the rear seats of the vehicle. The brake warning warning light was illuminated. The air bags of the contact's vehicle did not deploy. The air bags of the two other vehicles deployed. The contact stated that the rearview mirror separated and hit her head, causing a concussion. Additionally, the contact sustained whiplash, pstd and contusion on the back and on both ankles. The contact received medica; assistance. The front passenger's seat occupant of the second vehicle that rear-ended the vehicle sustained hips injury as the occupant was still recovering from a hip surgery that she had undergone prior to the collision. It was unknown whether the passenger received medical assistance. There was no property damage. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to crash champions, where it was totaled. The contact hired private investigators who retrieved the edr data and informed the contact the emergency braking system had engaged prior to the crash, however, the contact stated that there was no other vehicle or object around the vehicle at the time the emergency braking system had engaged. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the contact was informed that special equipment was not available to diagnose the vehicle based on the edr data. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 37,600.

While driving on the interstate, the car in front of my stepped on their brakes hard and immediately let off. I was several car lengths behind the car, but my emergency braking activated. The brake pedal went out of reach and I tried to step on the gas but the car would not accelerate. Two cars passed me on both sides, but luckily there was no one behind me or they would have hit me. The car went down to approximately 20 mph before I could again accelerate. The car in front of me was nearly 1/4-mile away at that point.

At approximately 9:20 a. M. On November 20, 2024 while driving at approximately 27 mph the collision mitigation braking system (cmbs) on my 2022 Honda Accord hybrid activated, bringing my car to a near halt while driving on a clear road in perfect visibility. At the time of the incident there were three pedestrians and a dog present on the sidewalk approximately 5 feet to the right of the roadway. Traffic on this particular stretch of road was relatively light at the time of the incident. No collisions occurred, and no individuals were injured. However, on a normal day there will be numerous other vehicles driving in the same lane, which would likely result in a rear end collision should this problem recur. This incident occurred without any prior warning or other symptoms. The vehicle's cmbs has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer or any other parties.

Suddenly slows down without any reason while lane changing or at stop sign. It is a safety issues.

I have been driving for over 30 years and have never had a windshield. Have a crack in it and now with this car. In less than two years, I have about six cracks in my windshield, which I've had to repair. I have also had serious problem with the car. Automatically braking with adaptive cruise control where there's no one in front of me, but the car just breaks for no reason.

My car has been phantom braking very hard on its own many times this past week while I was driving on the freeway. There’s no car in front of me and luckily no car was in back of me. Also I noticed it happens a lot when I change lane. I noted these frequent frightful occurrences below. It just brakes when nothing is in front. 6/14/24 @11:30am on the freeway 6/19/24 @9:17am on the freeway 6/22 /24 @8:37am phantom brake very hard on the freeway.

Car displayed emergency brake on dash and braked while car was traveling at freeway speeds. No obstructions or cars were near vehicle to cause auto braking.

Automatic emergency braking system slammed on the brakes with no apparent obstruction in the way. I turned a corner, started to accelerate, brakes slammed on and light on dashboard came on. Only took a couple of seconds.

Vehicle safety braking automatically operates even when no other vehicles are nearby; no vehicles in front, on either side, and behind my vehicle. In other words, phantom braking occurs without warning. This has occurred numerous times in 2023 and 2024.

Several times while driving the automatic breaking function activated while there was no vehicle or obstacles in front of me. This caused the vehicle behind me to swerve in order to avoid hitting me.

Car stops abruptly without warning or reason. This happens about once a week. Could cause an accident under certain circumstances.

Vsa modular control unit. Car breaks automatically without object in front of it.

The vehicle will sometimes brake even though no obstacle is present. This has occurred at highway speeds. The sudden brake event is jarring, and could cause me to be involved in a collision. The vehicle is relatively new, and covered by a factory warranty. I described the problem to the dealer's service department. The service department representative said he would not be able to repair the problem unless he could replicate it. The problem is intermittent, and is unlikely to be replicated. This means that the problem will likely remain unrepaired and dangerous.

When turn to exit highway the car stop unexpectedly. It happened more than 5 times. I talked with the dealer but they not pay attention to my claim the dealer check the suspension twice and denied there was a problem. But tire kingdom and an independent service verified a problem in the suspension system.

There have been multiple times where the automatic emergency braking just slams on the brakes for no reason almost causing a rear-end accident.

I had just merged onto a road and suddenly without warning the automatic emergency brakes applied. There were no vehicles in front of me or other objects. My safety and others were at risk because the vehicle suddenly braked and my control of the vehicle was considerably diminished. The road conditions were icy and it was snowing.

Purchased vehicle on 11/22/23the next day the car slammed on the brakes to an almost complete stop while merging right onto a freeway onramp. It was a clear early morning with no cars in front or near. Had there been someone close behind me they would have rear ended me. Now since then today 12/3/23 back to back the same day within an hour the car slammed on the brakes when a vehicle turned right, without being close. I feel the vehicle is unsafe.

I was getting on a freeway, via an on ramp, I was the first vehicle from the light, so there were no vehicles ahead of me. As I was about to merge onto the right lane of the freeway, my vehicle slams to a stop. The brake icon appeared on the control panel, and worried about the vehicle behind me maybe hitting me, I attempt to pull to the right to get off the road. Luckily there were no vehicles on the freeway at the time close to me, and the vehicle that was behind me when I got onto the freeway on ramp, was far enough back. My vehicle only braked for a moment, but it was a hard jerk. It all lasted seconds and I managed to merge onto the freeway and continue on my way. I have not told the dealership yet, where I purchased the vehicle from, but I'm going in for regular service in a week and will address it then. There have been other times the brake icon shows up, but the vehicle had never stopped on it's own before. That was a first. I have, however, noticed numerous electrical related problems with this vehicle. Well, I'm assuming it's all electrical (braking, speed, ac/heating, backup camera not working due to outside temp). I purchased it new, I'm the sole owner, it has just over 8k miles on it. I didn't bring it up with the dealer because I just chalked it up to numerous other problems I have with this vehicle, and figured I had a lemon, so it's too late to do anything about it. And most of the time if the dealer can't replicate the problem, they feel like it doesn't exist, they won't do anything anyway. I have since disabled any driver assist abilities in the vehicle. I have no issues with anyone inspecting my vehicle.

I was driving approximately 30 miles an hour with my foot on the accelerator when the automatic braking stoped the car dead. The automatic brake message flashed on the dashboard at that time. There were no cars or anything in front of me on the road. I was then rear ended by the car behind me. The car was taken to a collision shop, and there was a scan done on the car. There have been no other inspections of the cars braking system as far as I know. The problem was reported to my insurance company, geico. The problem was reported to the police officer responding to the scene of the accident and the collision/towing company.

While driving on a clear day with good weather, my car's collision mitigation braking system (cmbs) slammed on the car's brakes with no one in front of me whatsoever. I was driving over a bridge at the time, and it was my assumption that shadows from the bridge structures above caused the system to go. This is the second time the cmbs went off for no reason. I am lucky no one was behind me as the car slams on the brakes when cmbs goes off.

On multiple occasions, my 2022 Honda Accord has used the automatic braking system against my better judgement and almost caused traffic collisions. - it has braked when I was simply turning around in a parking lot, nearly causing a vehicle to hit me. - it brakes when I'm trying to park my vehicle in a narrow garage space, despite not being in danger of hitting anything. - it has braked at traffic intersections when it sees cars turning in front of me, almost causing vehicles behind to collide with the back of my car. I filed a complaint with Honda, but they were unhelpful. Since it's impossible to permamently disable this safety feature, their only resolution was for me to remember to temporarily disable it every time I use the vehicle. It appears that this technology is flawed and prone to malfunctioning and Honda implemented it in their vehicles to track the data by using involuntary test subjects. In my view, this warrants a federal investigation and lawsuit. Thank you.

My vehicle has fuel injector issues and Honda refuses to repair under manufacturers warranty although it's a safety issue and defects in their products . When my vehicle starts it misfires and causes the vehicle to go in limp mode disabling all safety features. No airbags or brakes etc . If these thousands of vehicles remain on the road it's not safe to drive. The vehicle stalls in the middle of roadways making it dangerous for everyone due to Honda bad quality control. The contact owns a 2022 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at various speeds on several occasions, the vehicle experienced phantom braking. Additionally, the contact observed a warning chime, and the word “brake” was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

My daughter just bought this 2022 Honda Accord on 04/29/2023 (in her name and my name). On 6/28/2023, she was headed home, driving north, and was coming to the busy intersection of a county road and highway. She went to brake, but the brakes did not respond. In order to avoid hitting another vehicle, she swerved and blew through the intersection. Thank goodness she did not hit anyone in the intersection and no one hit her. It could have been so bad. She did come to rest in a farmer's field on the northeast corner of the intersection. According to the shop that is currently processing the claim with state farm and investigating the repairs and damage, many error lights (about 10) are lit up on the dash as relates to the brakes, forward collision warning, and emergency braking. They indicated that they need to work with Honda to clear, verify, and repair everything related to those codes. I still need to call the police dept for a copy of their report, but they did issue her a citation for running the stop sign. In my research, I did see the NHTSA acknowledgment of recall letter just signed on 06/22/2023 by alex ansley, indicating that a recall would be issued in regards to an issue with the brakes, that may be related to my daughter's accident. After yhe vehicle warning flashed for no reason, (big orange brake light on dash), the vehicle stopped with absolutely nothing in fron of it.

The collision mitigation braking system is overly sensitive, aggressive, unpredictable and sometimes erratic causing extremely dangerous situations including almost causing traffic accidents due to unwarranted locking up of brakes sometimes on the freeway at very dangerous highway speeds. I've had about 5 scenarios where the system has terrified me by applying heavy stopping power in a dangerous and unexpected manner in situations where I would never apply the brakes! one of the occasions was on a 35mph roadway that had a small dip hardly anything, with no cars, pedestrians in front of me slammed the brakes aggressively for 0 reason and with nothing in front of the car but a slight dip in the road. Another occasion was on a freeway at freeway speeds where the car dangerously slammed on the brakes causing unexpected and abrupt loss of speed which would have resulted in a car behind me rear-ending my vehicle, in this case luckily no vehicle was directly behind me in this instance, but in the future this can cause an accident and put myself and others at risk. This vehicle is brand new, less than 3,000 miles. I've contacted Honda corporate who directed me to a Honda dealer which they seemed to advise I will be out of pocket for a diagnosis fee for, on a car that randomly and unexpectedly slams on brakes. This is unacceptable, the system automatically turns back on as soon as the vehicle starts up, there's no way to permanently deactivate this dangerous feature. This needs to be resolved immediately!!!.

In more than a couple of instances the vehicle has miscalculated the need for emergency braking causing the vehicle to suddenly brake in traffic and also when the lane keeping assist system was activated, in which no braking was necessary and no vehicle or pedestrian was nearby at all. There has not been any accident as of yet, but the possibility of incident is there. This has been happening since the vehicle was acquired.

My car will warn me of impeding collision when there is nothing in front of my car, it will brake randomly or tell me to brake at unnecessary times, it will move the steering wheel when it suspects I am departing a lane even though I am not departing a lane.

About three weeks into car ownership while drivng on the highway during the day, I changed lanes and the brakes engaged suddenly for about 2 seconds. No one was behind me or in front of me. No cars or obstacles. I took it into the dealership the next day. They tested it and found nothing wrong. About a month later it happended again while driving on the highway with no cars or obsticals in front me. Changing lanes and the car braked for a period of 1 second. It happened again about 10 minutes later but this time braked for 2 seconds and if someone was behind me, it may have casued an accident. Then a week later on the highway, it happened a third time taking an offramp. I took it to the dealership that day and they kept it overnight and found nothing wrong the next day. I am escalting it to the dealership management.

I purchased a new 2022 Honda Accord ex-l back in March. Twice I've had something happen while driving. Yesterday it was snowing quite hard and getting slick. So on the way home I was merging onto the freeway and gradually speeding up. Suddenly the car braked hard for about a second as if I was coming up on someone too fast. There was no one in front of me, and fortunately the person behind me wasn't close enough that I got rear ended. Obviously the radar sensor thought I was about to hit a car immediately in front of me--a car that wasn't there. I've been in touch with the dealer where I purchased the car. I see that there was a recall on the 2018-2019 Accords for this very thing. I seem to remember that the other time it happened it may have been raining, but I can't remember for sure. In that case the car didn't brake as hard as this time. This time it actually threw me forward, and fortunately my tires managed to grip the snowy pavement.

When driving down the highway with lane keeping assist, system gets confused. System tries to correct itself even though car is in the middle of the lane and eventually breaks while on the highway.
