As I was driving, the automatic braking system engaged and there was no other vehicle or object in front of or beside me. The car behind me could have rear ended me.
I was sitting in my car, and the entire steering and brake system went offline and the car had a bunch of hazard lights on and said to tow to a dealership. I tested the steering, and didn’t feel the wheels turn with the steering wheel, and the brakes went to the floor. When I went to shut off my car, it did the emergency shut-off (press 2xs or hold for 3 seconds). I attempted to restart the car about 4 times that night, and then I let it sit and tried it again 2 more times before having it towed to the dealership. The dealership stated they received the car and everything was suddenly fine and there were no code history, and they could not tell me the issue. Prior to this, the only issue I had was the car braking when no one was in front of me, but no issues with the steering wheel. With the entire brake system and steering system out, it could have caused a serious accident if I was driving at the time, but I was parked.
Component/system: collision mitigation braking system (cmbs) or related software. Vehicle available for inspection. Safety risk: vehicle brakes or decelerates unexpectedly during normal driving, risking rear-end collisions. Most recent incident on August 23, 2025, required override by pressing accelerator and shifting to neutral in traffic. Reproduction: dealer could not replicate issue during may 16, 2025 visit. No diagnostic codes found. Radar and braking systems reported as “operating normally. ” a second evaluation occurred after September 5, 2025, with no resolution; issue persists. Inspection: inspected by Honda dealership twice—on may 16, 2025 (invoice #488382) and again after September 5, 2025. No third-party inspections. Symptoms: braking occurs in sport, normal, and econ modes. Happens when accelerating from stop or easing off accelerator. Brake light activates falsely. No warning lamps or messages prior to failure. Issue has occurred 10+ times over the past year. Related software issues: radio failure (resolved via software update). Clock shows incorrect time. Apple carplay fails to connect until restart. Navigation compass shows concentric circles.
I applied the brakes and pulled up to a light and as soon as my car came to a complete stop all of the lights just started going off. The light turned green and I couldn’t accelerate anymore and almost got rear ended. I tried turning the car off but it didn’t turn off. Instead, it just made a clicking sound and I was able to accelerate and pull into a parking lot and I was able to turn it off and I turned it back on and it the brake system light stayed on. I drove to work and when I got to work I turned it off and turned it back on and the car is fine.
I purchased my Honda Accord June 21, 2024. For the first 3 months, the brake system indicator rectangle shape amber light (blinked on and off for several seconds) on 8 separate occasions when driving this car, so I brought the car to Honda dealer that concluded it must be dust on the brake for the next 3 months, the brake system indicator rectangle light (blinked amber on and off) on 6 separate occasions, the Honda dealer told me they could not find a problem with the brake, for the next 4 months, the brake system indicator rectangle light (blinked amber on and off) on 3 separate occasion , again the Honda dealer told me they could not find a problem but I noted that the dealer did not have record this on the work order. I then called Honda customer service (800-999-1009) support on June 23, 2025 at 1:17pm. I told the representative that the 2024 owners manual on page 84-85 did not have an amber brake indicator message among the 30 or so indicators in the manual. On page 493, the manual also mentions "if the brake system indicator (red) comes on or blinks, there is a malfunction in the brake system" on page 494, the manual also mentions "if the brake system indicator (red) comes on or blinks at the same time when the brake system indicator (amber), release the parking brake. The representative could not explain what a blinking amber brake system indicator meant and I should return car to the Honda dealer. Upon my insistence, my call was escalated and that a senior representative agreed that an blinking amber brake indicator explanation is not in the owners manual and could not provide me with an answer. Her best guess was that I was to close to a car in front of me (even though this has happened when there was not car in from of me). Can the NHTSA provide me with an explanation on why the brake system indicator rectangle light (blinked amber on and off) or have Honda provide the NHTSA with an explanation if this represents a dangerous situation to dri.
Several times the vehicle has automatically braked at low speeds (20-30 mph), nothing in front of the vehicle to cause this. Today it automatically braked. . . Hard. . . At 55 mph, again, nothing in front of vehicle, clear morning, road was clear. It braked so hard I'm pretty sure I have whiplash. I immediately called victory Honda. They told me to go wash my car and call them back if it happens again. The only warning it gave was the brake light and beeping, but it was instant. Thankful there was no one behind me.
I was driving on a highway when the engine light came on and the car immediately started slowing down even though I was pressing the gas pedal. It flashed there was a failure of the brake system, collision mitigation braking system, road departure mitigation system, hill start assist system, and adaptive cruise control system. The check battery light also came on. The car decelerated on its own with brakes engaged. I had to choice but to immediately pull over and luckily was able to steer to an off ramp and into a parking lot.
The brake system sensor light appears on the dashboard and cuts off supply to the gas pedal. Not able to accelerate while sensor turns on, which is very unsafe.
Issue type: safety concern “brakes auto engage when driving at any speed and parking brake lever is raised” description of the problem: I inadvertently lifted up on the parking brake switch in center console while driving about 30mph, trying to turn off a different switch on the console. This caused the vehicle to slam-on the brakes, narrowly avoiding a rear-end collision. It is labeled as a parking brake but is also an emergency brake (I discovered) that can be triggered by anyone who has their hand around the center console and accidentally raises this switch. This poses a serious safety risk to passengers and causing rear-end collisions! steps to reproduce: 1drive the vehicle at any speed (cruise, increasing/decreasing) 2lift up the parking brake lever only momentarily and release 3the vehicle immediately slams-on full rear-brakes then releases 4hold the switch up for longer period - experience a full-on emergency stop. Poor excuse for Honda's parking brake system. Emergency brake should be located elsewhere on the dash away from console. Dealer service: told me this is normal, as lifting the parking brake "up" will engage the rear wheel calipers full-on regardless of speed! this is not normal parking brake action and very dangerous. The manual does not point out this is a full-on braking. They say it "will assist in braking". This is just wrong & needs a software correction now. The parking brake should never be able to engage when the wheels are turning at any speed. We don't need a 2 wheel emergency brake for a super-obscure, super-rare brake failure (if ever). Corrective action: simple software modification needed. . . If the parking brake lever is lifted (accidentally) and the wheels are turning it should inhibit the brakes from being slammed-on. An emergency brake should be in a separate place on the dash. Honda should fix this very dangerous condition to make it a parking brake only. It should only engage when stopped (like in a parking spot).
The contact owns a 2024 Honda Accord. The contact stated that there was an abnormal sound inside the vehicle on the passenger’s side when the brake pedal was depressed. The undated needed check booklet message was displayed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 24v763000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The dealer determined that an update was needed. The dealer located an unknown object that was hanging underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
2024 Honda Accord ex 11th generation due to poor design and engineering and the use of low-quality plastic pipes to carry gas fuel vapor to the (evap system) and brake fluid to the braking system, these pipes have resulted in safety issues, both involving the possible loss of braking and high chances of fire when they are compromised. All these pipes run parallel to the exhaust system, which gets extremely hot. Due to the plastic brake, gas line, and evap line being exposed to road hazards, it's allowed direct contact with road debris, in which I encountered in my 2024 Honda Accord ex turbo. The Honda engineering team should have known, reasonably expected leaving such thin plastic pipes exposed under the undercarriage of the car would most likely result in costly repairs in which they would, therefore, deny any responsibility for damages occurring. The local Honda dealership can't repair these damaged pipes due to liability issues. The pipes can't be coupled together, so the entire length of these pipes must be replaced at a cost of $7,035. 52. American Honda has calculated the repair time and charges for any necessary work need, these charges are universal throughout all Honda dealerships in the united states. Due to car being under warranty one is unable to seek repairs elsewhere without violating the the 3 year/ 36000 factory warranty for other covered parts. Having to report and claim such damages on my auto insurance policy shouldn't be an option. An insurance company shouldn't have to pay to replace damaged fuel and brake lines due to the poor engineering of an auto manufacturer. The financial burden on owners is significant, and having such issues as this increases all our insurance costs. This could have resulted in me losing brakes and fire starting as both exposed fluid lines run parallel to the exhaust and have no cover/ guard to aid in protection. I've contacted american Honda, they absolutely refuse to accept any responsibility for damages.
I was driving a busy 4 lane street when the brake warning light came on. Car slowed down and I managed to turn off onto a side street. When I pushed the throttle there was no reaction. The car would not move. I shut it off and restarted then it would go. The brake system warning light was on. Said: brake system brake system problem. Brake performance may be reduced. See your dealer. I drove straight to dealer, and they checked the car and cleared the codes. Could not find anything wrong. I was lucky to be able to get off busy street without incident.
While driving our 2024 Honda Accord hybrid, the vehicle suddenly lost all power. Message on dash in big bold letters told me to brake!!!!! even though there did not appear to be any reason to brake . When I tried to brake, I was not able to and the steering was difficult. I was able to pull over and finally stop. I was in a precarious spot and did not feel safe sitting in the car since I was just over the crest of a bridge endangering not only myself but potentially other drivers coming over the crest . Numerous messages on the dash related to steering and braking issues . Examples : brake system problem electric power steering problem reduced traction and handling brake hold system problem electric parking brake system problem , parking brake not available.
Brand new 2024 Honda Accord touring purchased on oct. 3, 2023. Started having issues with the braking system around June 18, 2024. I contacted sons Honda where the car was purchased. Sons told me to contact american Honda. I contacted american Honda and we were in a back and forth conversation for 18 months. Until they offered me $3000, which was not enough to start to fix the several other issues with the brand new car (lemon). Luckily, no accidents have happened yet. I would like to mediate with american Honda, ntsb, and myself for at least $6,000 , so I can start to have the vehicle repaired. Along with the other minor issues I have with the brand new car (lemon). The vehicle has a host of recalls that makes the car more unsafe to operate.
On June 9, 2024, while I was driving on the highway, my new Accord flashed a series of warning messages on the right side of the driver information interface (instrument panel). The messages that flashed and scrolled through repeatedly are listed below: electric parking brake system problem. Parking brake not available. See your dealer. Blind spot information system problem. See your dealer. Hill start assist problem. Vehicle may roll upon brake release. See your dealer. Transmission system problem. Performance may be reduced. See your dealer. Emission system problem. Power may be reduced. See your dealer. Additionally, near the fuel gauge a red brake light flashed and an amber brake system stayed illuminated. This is upsetting because I've had my new Honda Accord just over one month and have fewer than 1500 miles on it. Update: I took my new Honda Accord touring to my dealer and they examined it and told me a solenoid needed replacement. They ordered the part which took several day and replaced it. The solenoid replacement did not fix the problem and the service manager said my car needed a new transmission (ecvt). I was shocked such a new car would require such a radical repair. After waiting two weeks, my transmission was replaced. However, I'm not confident in my car. I read on NHTSA that 2023 Accord hybrid had a recall for ecvt transmission replacement. My Accord hybrid touring is a 2024 manufactured in 3/2024.
The contact owns a 2024 Honda Accord sedan. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the brakes were applied inadvertently. On two occasions the vehicle braked abruptly, the vehicle hit a curb, and punctured the front and rear passenger tires. A police report was taken on one of those occasions. The contact sustained neck and back injuries and medical attention was needed during the first occasion. The vehicle was taken to a body shop where the tires were replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
We purchased a Honda Accord ( VIN and details below) , and after few weeks ( within 380 miles of driving, the car stopped in the middle of the road with a whole bunch of dtc's lighting up. The dtc's were indicating brake system malfunction, internal temperature high, lkas malfunction etc. Had to tow the car to dealership.
While driving down a paved road that has multiple bumps at due to cracking and buckling at 40 mph, the car dashboard had multiple indicator lights turn on with audible warnings. One of the most visible was an alert that indicated there was a problem with the electronic breaking system. I came to a stop light, and brought the vehicle to a stop, all indicator lights remained on. When the light turned green, the car would not move and was disabled. I turned on my flashers as I was stuck in the middle of the road. I turned the car off and back on. The errors did not clear. I turned the car off again and it indicated I needed to put the car in park. Once I did this and turned on the car, it rebooted and all errors were cleared. Dealership was able to find the following errors logged: u0100-00, u0100-f1, u0101-00, u0122-00, u0122-f1, u0129-00, u0131-00, u0131-f1, u0151-00, and u0416-68. Dealership said this was due to an "intermittent multi purpose camera failure". They said that if this issue occurs again, they would replace the camera. My concern is, this issue disabled my vehicle and didn't allow me to move the car after it had come to a stop. This can cause a serious safety issue if stopped in the middle of the road like what happened to me. If this is a wider or known-issue it should be dealt with rather than waiting for the failure to happen again.
The contact owns a 2024 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the messages "brake system failure" and "electric parking brake failure" were displayed. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure or determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 74.
Driving at highway speed with cruise control active, cruise turns off and car immediately feels like manual steering and accelerator harder to push. Warning lights displayed adaptive cruise, lane departure and brake system, see dealer. Exited the highway and restarted the car. Lights went off. Taking to dealer via appointment. Dealer says they can't determine whether or not there could be danger of driving the vehicle and can't get the car in for more than a week, leaving me without transportation should something go wrong.
The contact owns a 2024 Honda Accord hybrid. The contact stated that while making a right turn and driving at approximately 8 mph, the vehicle stopped abruptly. The contact stated that the vehicle made a beep sound when it stopped, however, the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 700.
On 2 separate occasions while driving, I have taken an exit that has 2 left and 2 right turn lanes. While I'm in the middle left turn lane and a car is in the middle right turn lane the radar cone for the emergency braking system will trigger an imminent collision and slam on the brakes even though cars are in completely different lanes and I have nothing in front of me. Both incidents have caused near misses from cars behind me. I'm not sure I even feel safe driving this car anymore, if technology that is supposed to keep me and my passengers safe is this unpredictable to the interpretation of my environment, it will inevitably cause a collision and after viewing articles around news outlets it looks like this has already happened. It seems to be a sensitivity issue with the sensors on the front of the car or that the sonar is too wide. Either way, this needs to be fixed before drivers start getting into more serious collisions rather than small fender benders as there are a lot of crvs and Accords with this issue already on the road.
