Interior Lighting problem #1

The interior lights on the radio display went out. There is no lights on the heat/ac dial control, the fan control, all the defroster/air blower options. Makes it difficult to use the defroster in the front or rear when driving since I can't see which button I am pushing. It is dangerous to have to trun on an interior light when driving to see what I need to push to make my visibility better.

Interior Lighting problem #2

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord ex. The contact stated that the instrument panel would not illuminate during the night and the contact was unable to determine at what speeds he was traveling. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they advised him that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 04v256000 (interior lighting). The failure and the current mileages were approximately 119,000.

Interior Lighting problem #3

The contact owns a 2004 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the interior lighting surrounding the center console was inoperable. The contact called the manufacturer regarding an extended warranty repair for the interior lighting but the manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle did not fall into the warranty offer. The failure mileage was 95,000.

Interior Lighting problem #4

The interior lighting on the radio and other components went out. It is dangerous to be driving and trying to figure out where fan and other buttons are in the dark. I should not need to use a flashlight to figure out how to clear fog from the windows. If I have a related accident my insurance company would consider it my fault even though it is a design or manufacturing defect.

Interior Lighting problem #5

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord. The contact stated that all the lights on the dashboard failed. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the failure was consistent with NHTSA recall campaign number: 04v256000 (interior lighting) but the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 93,000.

Interior Lighting problem #6

The contact owns a 2001 Honda Accord. While driving approximately 40 mph at night, the contact noticed that the instrument panel lights were inoperative. She continued to drive but periodically checked the dome light to check the speed. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that the vehicle was not included in recall 04v256000 (interior lighting). The failure mileage was approximately 100,000 and the current mileage was approximately 100,400.

Interior Lighting problem #7

2005 Honda Accord: interior lights (roof, radio;click, auto transmission backlighting) do not work intermittently. More often than not, the lights are all out.

Interior Lighting problem #8

I have a 2000 Honda Accord. The dashboard lights short out due to a systemic defect in the fuse system, wherein the fuse works itself loose and the bulbs short out. This is supposedly a systemic problem with Honda Accord models dating back to at least my year, According to Honda representatives. They tell me that even though, Accords were subjected to recall for this very problem, my VIN was "outside the parameters" of the recall. I never received a recall notice for the problem. This is a serious safety defect and creates a dangerous night driving condition. Our vehicle has approximately 135,000 miles on it but the shorting out problem has been evident for over two years. In the past, if I tapped on the dashboard, the lights would come back on. No longer. This systemic defect, of which Honda is well aware, is dangerous. My wife refuses to drive the vehicle at night and even I feel uncomfortable because I cannot detect the speed, gasoline meter, whether the car is over-heating, etc, all required safety features under probably both federal and California state law. I have attempted to have the problem fixed twice, paid for the repairs, without success. I am asking for you agency to open an investigation into this dangerous safety defect and order Honda to recall all Accords that may be impacted, which could very well be the entire line since 2000. I find Honda's adamant failure to fairly resolve the issue to be shocking. Why should a consumer be force to pay over $500. 00 for a defect that the manufacturer knows exists and will not correct? updated ivoq 12/17/10.

Interior Lighting problem #9

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord. While driving approximately 45 mph, the contact noticed that the instrument panel lights failed and she was unable to see the gauge readings. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The mechanic stated there was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number: 04v256000 (interior lighting) that could possibly have been related to the failure and referred the contact to the dealer. The dealer was contacted and advised that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

Interior Lighting problem #10

The srs air bag light has come on and will not go off. This is the airbag sensor and controls the deployments of airbags. After researching complaints on my vehicle type and year, 85% are related to this airbag light. Even after mandated recall, the problem still persists. How can this be ignored? airbags are a mandatory safety device installed to save lives. Evidently the recall repairs did not resolve the problem. Issue a mandate to fix problem so that the stays off and the airbags deploy!!! also, my instrument panel light does not work, I can't see the instruments at all at night. This was a recall for the 01 lx model Accords but not the 01 ex models. Based on the numerous complaints I found on this website, all 01 Accords should be included in this recall. How can this be ignored. I read through all the 2001 Accord complaints and it sounds to me there will be some serious accidents caused by non deployment of airbags, transmission problems and electrical problems. When trying to correct my airbag light issue, I was told it was too late to resolve the problem. The dashboard light issue will not be addressed by Honda since my VIN is not included in the recall and they say they couldn't replicate the problem. Take it to a dark room turn the car on and guess what, you will replicate the problem. I'm very disappointed in Honda. After reading all these complaints, I am no longer a loyal customer. I willl look to buy a Hyundai, they want the business!.

Interior Lighting problem #11

Control panel display (audio-hvac display) failure. I have a 2003 Honda 4 door (w/o navigation)accord ex. About 2-3 months ago while driving the display panel for the vehicle operating systems-radio, heat/ac, time blacked out. At-near the time of this occurrence I was on the new york state thruway. A flashing (emergency) sign -flashing 'emergency' 'check radio channel 530 or 1610 for details'- notifying an emergency. As I was driving and could not see the radio display. It was dark. I was unable to access the emergency notice. My vehicle was taken to Honda and was told this repair was a defect. This repair was part of a campaign to fix this display, per Honda service bulletin 04-027 but the program for my vehicle had expired. They mentioned the campaign was part of a campaign not a recall, even though they acknowledge safety was one of the issues in the program. I live in an area where the roads are equipped with emergency message signage' are frequent and commonplace. Not having the ability to access these messages due to a campaign program where no notice was received by me (I am the original owner of the vehicle). This problem, with potential safety implications seems to rise to the level of a defect. As I write, the display is dark and has not even flickered since the initial occurrence.

Interior Lighting problem #12

I have a Honda Accord 2003 lx. My stereo light is dim and I couldn't see the clock. They have a service bulletin 04-027. However, they told me that they fix all the 2003 Accord except model lx and dx. The point is my car has the same problem as other 03's Accord does. It is really dangerous which can cause accident if drivers try to read the time at the dark. ( or it is impossible to see during at night without the background light) Honda should cover all the 2003 Accord! not only upper model.

Interior Lighting problem #13

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord. He noticed a burning smell, and then all of the interior lights failed. A local mechanic stated that the multiplex control unit for the instrument panel lights needed to replaced. He added that the dimmer control for the instrument panel lights failed because of heat buildup. No repairs were made. He contacted the dealer and the manufacturer in reference to recall number 04v256000 (interior lighting) . He was advised that he was ineligible for a free remedy because his vehicle identification number was excluded from the recall. The current and failure mileages were approximately 138,000. Updated 03/08/10 the entire lighting panel shorted out and made nighttime driving situation very unsafe. The failed components are under recall for 2000 Honda Accords. Updated 05/17/10.

Interior Lighting problem #14

My 2000 Honda Accord ex multiplex control unit malfunctioned causing my dash lights to go out and I can't see my dash panel at night ie. Speedometer. This is a safety issue and I am a single mom with 2 young kids and haven't owned the car for even a year and less than 10 years old and less than 100,000 miles and nothing I did caused the multiplex control unit to malfunction and there is a recall on this already for 2000 Honda Accord but american Honda has given my several excuses as well as the salesperson at the dealership called and was told a different answer one was with the plant car came from. One was if it was a v6 then one was having an lx model one was with saying the mileage issue or they would fix it. Basically just a bunch of bs over and over. They need to honor their recall. Honda is supposed to be a safe dependable car and now I have a safety issue with driving and I am nurse and have to use my car for work and oncall but a night can't see the dash lights. I also have my srs light on which is another issue which my total airbag system needs to be replaced with a warranty on it as well but not with my exactly problem which there is another manufacturer malfunction but won't fix as well when nothing I did with either safety issues caused these to malfunction and american Honda is aware and has recalls on these but won't honor the recalls with my 2000 Honda Accord.

Interior Lighting problem #15

A few months ago we began experiencing intermittent failure of the lighting on the instrument panel. We took the car to our local repair shop, who determined the dimmer control for the instrument panel lights was failing, and they replaced it with a genuine Honda part. This did not fix the issue. Instead, the instrument panel lights are now non-functional, causing the whole cluster to need to be replaced. I was searching the NHTSA website and found NHTSA campaign number 04v256000. Which states, on certain passenger vehicles, the dimmer control for the instrument panel lights could fail due to heat buildup. Consequence: if this occurs, the instrument lights may fail and, at night, the driver may not be able to see the instrument panel gauges, such as the speedometer. I phoned Honda and was told our car was not included in the recall. I then searched the web, and found many instances where other 2000/2001 Honda Accords have suffered this same problem but were not included in the recall. I have called our local Honda dealership and the national 800 service number, all of whom have told me that our car is not included with this recall. Though, the situation is too much alike to be a coincidence.

Interior Lighting problem #16

2006 Honda Accord chronic problem - headlights dim frequently while driving - windshield wipers hesitate in same intervals - happens at nigh. Daytime running lights also dimming completely.

Interior Lighting problem #17

The contact owns a 2002 Honda Accord coupe. While driving approximately 30-35 mph, the dashboard lights failed. The contact stated the speedometer and radio were still operating as normal however; there was no illumination of the lights. When driving at night, the contact was unable to determine at what speed he was traveling. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 135,000. Updated 08/11/10. The consumer stated a recall was issued for the 2001 model, but not 2002. The consumer also went to the dealer for a recall regarding the driver side inflator module. The mechanic found a burned part, but would not replace it as it was not a part of the recall. Updated 08/17/jb.

Interior Lighting problem #18

Bought this car used (with over 140,000 miles) for my teenage son. When he turned the headlights on - all the interior display lights for radio, heating and air conditioning and defrosters went dark. We called Honda of America and they denied any knowledge of history of this recurring problem. They even went so far to say that because the Honda was manufactured in mexico that no warranties applied. The car had a 6 cd player when we bought it Honda said the entire radio system could only be replaced by a single disc player. It cost $1000 to have the problem fixed. I own 3 Hondas, have owned Hondas for decades and will look to american made cars for all my future purchases.

Interior Lighting problem #19

Dash light on instrument panel comes and goes darkening the entire dashboard while driving at night. Vehicle was stopped at night by police on dark highway along coastline road due to driving too slow creating a traffic hazard for others. Driver could not see panel to gauge speed.

Interior Lighting problem #20

The instrument panel backlighting fails intermittently for days at a time. When it's out, I cannot see the speedometer or any gauges on the dash at night. I have to use a flashlight or other external lighting to see the gauges. The backlighting never flickers -- it's either on or it's off. I am unable to discern any pattern or action that causes the backlighting to go out or to begin working again. The dash indicator lights still work. My 2001 Honda Accord ex-v6 sedan was not covered under recall 04v256000. My dimmer control works when the backlighting is working (and still dims the radio and climate controls even when the backlighting is not working). I replaced the multiplex control unit at my own expense in sept. 2009, but it has had no effect on the problem.

Interior Lighting problem #21

My Honda Accord 2000 had the same problem with the recall "instrument panel lights not on" or NHTSA campaign id number: 04v256000 but when I call the Honda motor they said may exactly is the same year 2000 but the VIN number not include in the recall.

Interior Lighting problem #22

Consumer is inquiring about warranty issues for his 2000 Honda Accord. The consumer stated the egr valve was replaced due to the check engine light illuminating. Also, the panel lights needed to be replaced.

Interior Lighting problem #23

2001 Honda Accord ex sedan 4d interior lighting description: on certain passenger vehicles, the dimmer control for the instrument panel lights could fail due to heat buildup. If this occurs, the instrument lights may fail and, at night, the driver may not be able to see the instrument panel gauges, such as the speedometer.

Interior Lighting problem #24

Noticed upon starting car: lights on my dashboard have darkened completely (and permanently, not intermittently). This includes the defroster indicator, dashboard buttons, climate control, radio, and clock. This is a very common problem for 03-07 Accords, hundreds of users have complained about it for years. . Interior Lighting problem #25

My 2003 Honda Accord ex has had an ongoing problem of the accessory lights going out that control the radio and hvac controls. It is actually a transistor on the printed circuit board blowing that controls the consoles lighting. Honda knows about the issue and has put out an extended warranty about this for 7 years or 105,000 miles, whichever comes first. If the warranty is out, the cost to fix it through the dealership is $700-900, not something many people these days can afford, and because they can't afford it, their safety is decreased. Although this is a known issue and the warranty has run out, they really should take responsibility and fix any that have this problem because this is a serious distraction while driving. Multiple times I've tried to change my temperature or radio settings and while trying to see the display almost gotten into an accident. There are message boards all over the internet addressing this issue and how much of a safety concern this is. An anonymous user posted this on the boards: : "can't view anything on the radio display or center controls. This is especially dangerous at night when trying to adjust the heat or a/c and can't see what I'm doing. Honda should definitely fix the issue. It really is a safety problem. . Read more...

Interior Lighting problem #26

The audio unit display lights go dim 1-2 minutes after the headlights are turned on. The radio dials and hvac control switches also go completely out. The only light on in the area is the small green light showing which hvac button has been selected. The instrument panel lights do light up and are controllable with the dimmer switch. I have checked the fuses; none were blown. I can cope with the problem by turning on the interior overhead light to see the controls. Just very inconvenientand creating a unsafe condition. This is a problem with earlier model years (2003-2004) of this model run. In 2007 Honda issued a 7 year/100,000 mile warranty extension letter for these years. There is also a service bulletin for these repairs. Perhaps Honda should havne extended this warranty extension to include the 2005 models.

Interior Lighting problem #27

I purchased an Accord exl on 2/8/09. While driving with the defroster or air conditioning on, the exterior and interior lights flash approximately every 30 seconds. We took it to the dealership and were told this is a normal characteristic caused by eld system. They are not able or not willing to fix the problem. This a serious safely hazard, as I drive highly congested roads daily and do not feel safe driving a car that flashes its headlights constantly. Other cars do not know this is a normal characteristic. They will think I am an aggressive driver flashing them, and this could cause serious problems. I do not understand why this cannot be resolved, and why Honda does not consider this a major problem. There seem to be many complaints about this issue, and I am not aware of any other cars that have this problem. Please help us with this issue, as someone may end up seriously hurt due to this issue. You may contact me for my VIN but I do not wish to post this information online.

Interior Lighting problem #28

2004 Honda Accord v6ex. Audio-hvac display is dark. Honda are aware of all model 2003 & 2004 but refused to recall due to the cost. They even put a service bulletin 04-027 out in all their dealership.

Interior Lighting problem #29

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord. The contact noticed that the tail lights were not illuminating on the vehicle. The lighting on the license plate had also blown out and the instrument panel lights would not illuminate. He replaced the lighting on the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were less than 142,000. Updated 11/12/08. Updated 11/14/08.

Interior Lighting problem #30

In September, my '03 Honda Accord lx v6 started shifting hard from 2nd gear in morning traffic. After a few miles, the car would not shift out of 2nd gear. 1st mechanic couldn't replicate the issue. On the way home, dashboard lit up like a christmas tree; check engine light, tcs light, oil light. Had car towed to dealer; total transmission failure. In addition to the transmission dying, 6 months ago the dashboard/radio/temperature panel lights failed, the dome light doesn't work, the right headlight has needed to be replaced 3 times, the driver's side seat has always been loose. I am the original and only owner of this car and have had it repaired/maintained at Honda dealers since purchase. To have all these issues, plus have the transmission fail at 106,000 miles is unacceptable. Then to have to pay $2200 to have a used, remanufactured transmission installed is unacceptable. This is chronic problem for the '03 Accord. A recall should be issued, people should be refunded their money already paid and offered a significant discount to be placed into a safe new car. It is only a matter of time before someone is really hurt. . . Or has it happened already.

Interior Lighting problem #31

I only have about 1,500 miles on my new Accord and I've noticed that the headlights and interior lights blink each time the air conditioning compressor kicks in, about every 20-30 seconds. I've been in contact with the dealer several times, they said "its normal". This is a safety issue, because it is distracting to both myself and other drivers. Also, other drivers think that I am flashing my lights at them.

Interior Lighting problem #32

September 8th was a rainy day. Left class in the rain to notice that my wipers had completely stopped working on my 2003 Honda Accord. Thought that is was the fuse, but the fuse is fine. Haven't taken car to dealership yet because I wanted to do some research on any recalls. I've also had issues with my interior radio/ac lights. They don't work at all.

Interior Lighting problem #33

The back light that lights all of my instruments in my dash went out. I own a 2003 Honda Accord ex. There was no sign of a problem and then all of a sudden the lights went out. . . There is not a fuse or anything that controls this problem. It is a wiring issue in the stereo that causes the problem and it can be in upwards of $1000 to fix a light issue According to the forums online.

Interior Lighting problem #34

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord. The contact noticed that the lighting on the instrument panel failed and he was unable to see any of the gauges on the instrument similar to the failure in NHTSA campaign id number: 04v256000 (interior lighting). Both the dealer and manufacturer advised the contact that his vehicle was not included in the previous recall. The dealer made several attempts to duplicate the failure but to no avail. The current mileage was 160,000 and the failure mileage was 140,000. Updated 05/04/11.

Interior Lighting problem #35

Ongoing isuues with electircal system, lights flickering, accessories going in and out, seat uhpulstry and paint and seat frame. Had into another dealer and they said bad paint ,bad fabric and flickering lights are chacteristics of the 2008 Honda Accords. Service manager varified all problems and then I get a call later to pick up car because they tried to fix the seat and couldnt so they ordered another seat frame. I picked the car up next day with fraudulent paperwork, wrong dates and mialege. I was wondering why seatbelt did not feal tight. I get home and see that when they took seat out to try and fix, mechanic did not install seat belt back on the frame and he distryed the syl plate taking seat in and out and now the bolt cover is also missing. Dealer picked up car from and brought it back. Did not send car back with paperwork or even an apolagy. They claim they ordered replacement parts to fix what they damaged. Please email me and I will let you know anything youd like. Honda was no help. Fourth time Honda owner and last! Hondas quality and attitude is so poor, I am going back to american cars.

Interior Lighting problem #36

Exterior and interior lights flicker when the air conditioning compressor comes on. Baytown Honda service dept, baytown TX, stated this is normal and intended to do that. First they said they weren't aware of the problem, then they produced a service bulletin on the 2008 Accord that advised Honda is aware of the problem. Baytown Honda stated nothing could be done because Honda said there is no problem with flickering lights. The flickering lights are a distraction to the driver and other drivers.

Interior Lighting problem #37

Refer to NHTSA campaign id #04v256000. I have 2001 Honda Accord ex. My instrument light on the car failed and I cannot see gauges at night time. I am taking a flashlight with you at night when I am driving. According to #04v256000, it only covers certain lx models. I think it should be expand to ex models as well. I was shocked after the dealer told me that they cannot fix because your car is not on a recall list even though it is obviously due to the failure of potentiometer.

Interior Lighting problem #38

I am an otr cdl-licensed driver, and, on more than a few occasions over the past 6 months, I have observed several models of Nissan and Honda vehicles cruising at dusk with their dash lights on, but with no exterior marker, parking, tail, or headlights burning. They are virtually invisible, especially when mixed in with other normally-illuminated vehicles. When alerted as they pass by horn and flashing lights, the driver's usual reaction is to slam on the brakes, and then turn on the headlights. If the headlight switch is configured to actuate the dash lights separately from the exterior lights, that is a definite safety problem. The problem also may be with the allowable threshold sensitivity of the twilight sensor.

Interior Lighting problem #39

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord. The contact stated that none of the instrument panel gauges would illuminate. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who advised that the multiplex control unit failed and would need replacing. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was contacted. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 04v256000 (interior lighting) but did not confirm if the vehicle was included in the recall. The failure mileage was 160,000.

Interior Lighting problem #40

It's a major design flaw of Honda to deviate from the standard that the dash lights do not illuminate unless the headlights are on. I'm sure most other drivers are accustomed to this standard. Compound that with other vehicle models (of which we have two) that will turn on headlights automatically, and you have serious potential to drive at night without nothing but the automatic running lights on. These running lights produce enough reflective light, along with the dash lights, to lead the driver to believe they have the headlights on.

Interior Lighting problem #41

- the contact owns 2000 Honda Accord se. The contact stated that there was safety recall 04v256000 concerning instrument panel that stated the dimmer control for the instrument panel lights could fail due to heat buildup. The contact stated that the instrument lights did not work. She had no warning, they just stopped working. The contact believed that they stopped working due to the heat build up as mentioned in the recall. The contact was told by the dealer that the safety recall did not apply to this vehicle. The contact would like to have the vehicle repaired under the safety recall. Updated 02/27/07.

Interior Lighting problem #42

Odometer light does not come on. Dealership said that this is not a recall for my [2001 Honda Accord. [ recall id 04v256000]. This could cause all instrument panel lights to fail.

Interior Lighting problem #43

- the contact said that dash light (multiplex control unit) for the instrument panel light is broken. It is part of a safety recall 04v256000, component interior lighting. The dealer told the contact that her VIN number is not included in the campaign. The contact can't read her instrument panel at night. The contact would like to be included in the campaign so that her vehicle can be fixed.

Interior Lighting problem #44

There was nothing of consequence that occurred in the time leading up to this failure. The display, containing the clock, air conditioning, radio, and cd controls of the 2003 Honda Accord no longer lights up. This makes it very inconvenient to attempt to use any of these features. It is very expensive to have this fixed, as well, since the light source is inside the unit and the entire center unit must be replaced, which can cost approximately 1000 dollars. I am aware of this problem happening in the cars of every other person I know who owns the same model car.

Interior Lighting problem #45

I was driving at night when the lights for the radio and climate controls went out. The radio and heat/ac still work. I can use the cd player, the radio and the heat/ac I just cannot see what channel, temperature, etc. The lights on the knobs for these controls also went out. Checked every fuse and all of them are fine.

Interior Lighting problem #46

- the contact stated that headlights failed while driving at night. The contact stated that the headlights flickered on and off. This happened all the time, the headlights would be functioning, and then the light flickered on and off automatically. The contact stated that the interior dome light flickered on and off as well. Honda had a recall for the same problem for 2003 Accords with campaign # 06e02300, for exterior lighting, headlights. The contact took the vehicle to the dealership, and was told that the electronic load detector needed to be replaced, which would cost $676. 38. The contact felt this vehicle should be part of the recall. Updated 02/27/07.

Interior Lighting problem #47

Dash board lights went off without any warning signs. The entire instrument panel was invisible in night. It is a safety issue as I could not read any of the instrument panels. The car was taken to Honda dealership for failure analysis and repairs. They found that the multiplex unit on the driver side of the car had failed and needs replacement. Honda has already issued recall for the same component for the same problem for the same model year (2000) car as mine, but since my VIN# was not part of recall, they refused to honor the recall. At this point I had to pay $428. 00 to get the car fixed. I would like NHTSA to take this up Honda to get this taken care as part of recall as this has been one of the common problem in this model year. The recall campaign number for this problem in NHTSA database is 04v256000 and Honda recall number is p36.

Interior Lighting problem #48

I own a 03 Honda Accord. The radio unit is one piece which has the climate control and radio function. Recently the backlight went out on the unit making it impossible to see any of control including rear defroster in the night. I took the vehicle back to Honda and they refused to replace the unit saying the car is out of warranty. Apparently this is a common problem with 03-05 Honda Accord's. With out the backlight all climate function are not visible at night. . Read more...

Interior Lighting problem #49

The interior lighting of my Honda Accord coupe 2003 went out. From what I've seen it is a very common problem in these cars. Everything works properly but the lighting is out and nothing is visible on the lcd screen.

Interior Lighting problem #50

Problem statement: 2003 Honda Accord console control lighting and stereo background lighting has failed. Why is this a problem: during night time driving you cannot see the controls to make adjustments and therefore have to turn on the overhead lighting to make any adjustments to the fan, temperature, change air flow position etc, or adjust the stereo. This is an error precursor to having an accident as it distracts you from driving. This is a generic problem: a quick research of the web indicates this is a common failure among Honda Accords ranging from years 2003 to 2005. In these Honda Accords all of the console control lighting is powered by circuits in the stereo and therefore the only fix is to replace the stereo at an estimated cost of $300 to $500 dollars.

Interior Lighting problem #51

For no known reason the radio dash display on the 2003 Honda Accord has gone black making it impossible to see any of the information related to the heating/air conditioning operation, radio/cd operation and time. There is a service bulletin issued but Honda doesn't seem to think it is a big problem in that they seem to be unwilling to recognize the problem and provide financial assistance to affected owners.

Interior Lighting problem #52

The dimmer control for the instrument panel light failed and can not see the instruments at night. There is already a report for this failure (#04v256000), for my same model year. Honda will not honor recall because my VIN does not apply.

Interior Lighting problem #53

: the contact stated while driving 25 mph the vehicle was hit by another vehicle on the driver's side, this caused the contact to hit another vehicle with the front passenger side. The air bags did not deploy, seat belts were in use and no injuries were sustained. The police were on the scene however no report was filed. The interior lights work intermittently. There are several indicator lights that do not work at all, and the lights that do work dim without warning. There is a NHTSA recall # 02v08000, regarding the fontal air bags and a NHTSA recall # 04v256000, regarding the interior lighting. The VIN was not included in the recall.

Interior Lighting problem #54

The radio and cd and heat and air console lighting went out on my Honda Accord. Two Honda service places and the main Honda headquarters say that I have to replace the $800 radio before my lease runs out. I didn't break the radio lighting. One service place said that this is a common problem with Honda Accords. Be aware!.

Interior Lighting problem #55

2003 Honda Accord coupe - radio dash display went out failure of radio/climate displays makes it impossible to read time/temp/warning displays. Honda has thus far failed to admit this is a widespread problem despite multiple Honda Accord owners experiencing the same issue.

Interior Lighting problem #56

Ran off the road, trying to use window defroster controls because the backlight on the radio controls ceased functioning.

Interior Lighting problem #57

I recently ran off the road and nearly wrecked my 2003 Honda Accord ex trying to read my clock and a/c lighting while driving. Normally, this would not be an issue. However, the known backlighting problem in this make and model of car is widespread and known by the manufacture. Furthermore, there is yet to be a recall. How many people die from driver distraction every year? the last thing we need is to add one more distraction to the road. Would you operate an airliner with cockpit lighting issues?.

Interior Lighting problem #58

: the contact stated while driving at no specific speed, the instrument gauge light failed. There was no light available to view the speed. There is a NHTSA recall, # 04v256000, regarding the interior lighting. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the VIN. The vehicle was not taken to the local dealer for inspection or repair. When the consumer turned on the headlights, the dash lights did come on. Sometimes, the consumer would have to hit the dashboard for them to come on. Updated 07/03/06.

Interior Lighting problem #60

The backlight for the radio/cd/envionmrntal controls has gone out. I have been informed the led taht provides this light is built into the radio and cannot be repaired. The Honda dealer states the radio must be replaced to solve the problem. This car is less than 3 years old but is over the milage alloment to be covered by warranty. So, in order for me to be able to set the controls for the heating/ac/defrost and/or cd/radio I will be required to pay $750. 00 for a new radio, plus labor. Browsing the edmunds. Com repair forum I see this appeasr to be a very common problem for the 2003 Honda Accord. There has been over 300 posts on this issue in the past 3 months. Because of flawed engineering by Honda, the consumer is required to pay over $750. 00 for a $1. 25 led that by design - comes attached to a brand new radio unit. Please note: all of the componenets: ac/defrost/radio/etc, work just fine - you just can't see the controls to set them properly.

Interior Lighting problem #62

While driving my 2003 Honda Accord ex v6, the display light for the radio panel went completely dark. I have owned this car for only 20 mos. And do not feel that this malfunction should occur on a new vehicle with less than 5 yrs. Ownership. I went to the dealership the next morning after the light went out and was told that they are beginning to see a higher number of complaints for this particular malfunction/defect. I was also told that I would have to pay between $500 and $600 for either a new radio unit or the tuner (initally told it was just a bulb but the service mgr told the other service person that the entire radio unit had to be replaced).

Interior Lighting problem #73

There is currently a recall on Honda Accord ex 2001(which is the year make and model of my car) for dimmer control lights inside the car not lighting up. My car has this exact problem / periodically the dashboard lights go completely black and do not work. I cannot see how fast I'm going, I cannot see if I am almost out of gas, cannot see if the car is overheating, cannot see anything on the dashboard. This is very dangerous when it is dark. I checked the recall and noticed that my year/make/model does have a recall for this problem but when I called Honda they did not include my VIN# so they won't fix it. My mechanic told me my car is way to new to be having this problem. I am requesting that this be researched because I feel my VIN# needs to be added to this recall list. When it is dark this is very dangerous. My VIN # is jhmcg66851c018937 the recall # is campaign# 04v256000 June 7 - 2004 thank you.

Interior Lighting problem #74

The contact owns a 2001 Honda Accord. 5 years ago the instrument panel lights failed to illuminate. The failure mileage was 10000. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the vehicle was operating normally. Recall campaign# 04v256000 is related to the contacts interior lighting failure. The manufacturer stated that the recall is not related to his VIN. The previous attempt to repair the instrument panel was unsuccessful; however, the radio was replaced. The contact has driven the vehicle at night for several years and is aware of the safety risk involved for him and his teenage driver. The current mileage was 133000.

Interior Lighting problem #75

Instrument panel lights go out and at night I can't see some of the gauges like the speedometer or gas gauge. But other lights like, check engine, maintenance required, tcs lights work ok. I have read what NHTSA considers a safety hazard and lighting is one of them. There has already been a safety recall on other 2001 Honda v6 models with the same problem as I am experiencing. Yet, there is no investigation being done on my problem. Nhtsa representatives won't even talk to me, I get a person on the phone and the only thing they keep repeating is " there is no investigation being done on your vehicle at this time" I feel like im talking to a machine. I would like some feed back from a person at NHTSA as to why this problem is not being addressed. What is happening to the Hondas? I've already gotten two other recall notices of other problems. I am very discouraged with what's going on. I paid a lot of money for my car because I trusted the Honda name, also to maintain it in top condition. I just don't feel that I should be responsible for this defect.
