The car acted like it was 'missing' gears, but this went away. I started to enter the freeway ramp and increase speed and the car did it several times again ('missing gears', reving but not moving forward like it should) and was almost hit by several cars trying to get me to move. I was unable to get the car to move, so I immediately used gps to locate a service station. I was able to drive the to the repair shop, but the car symptoms continued to get worse, which was a significant safety hazard! no check engine lights came on at all! I was able to make it to the driveway of the repair shop, but they had to push the car into the bay to review it. The repair place determined that the transmission has an internal problem, which is very commom with 2003 Honda Accords. I only had 89,900 miles on the car. I have owned several Hondas and have never had problems such as this. However, Honda knows that this is an ongoing, safety hazard but has done nothing to address these ongoing issues (outside of the class action lawsuit requirements). I will be looking at new cars and Hondas will not be on my list! I am asking the us department of transporation to please thoroughly review the history of transmission issues with these cars and require appropriate consumer protection by Honda.
While driving on busy street the car violently shifted into first gear at about 25 miles per hour, luckily there were no other cars behind me at the time, had there been this issue could have caused an accident. After this incident the car had intermittent issues with the transmission slipping out of gear. I took it to the Honda dealership and was told the transmission was failing, causing the issues. After researching, I found that this was a common problem with 2003 Accords.
The console light which displays the radio/cd player, and all temperature controls (ac, heat, defroster, etc. ) does not work. I understand the warranty was extended to seven years or 100,000 miles whichever comes first. Unfortunately, I have exceeded those limits. However, this is a safety problem/defect and should be fixed. The dealer quoted a price of $1,000.
On my way to work I was driving at 45mph and the car began to slow down and shut off in the middle of traffic. I noticed as it slowed down the ignition key light was flashed. Five mins later the car came back on and I took it to several auto shops and they couldn't determine what was wrong with my car. For a month this problem seemed to stop all together. Recently it did this stopping while I was driving on the highway but didn't come back on. I had the car towed to goodyear vespia auto shop. Here they determined that something might be wrong with the car's computer. During a test drive the car shut off on the mechanic he place the code indicator to determine what was wrong with the car and here he discovered that car's computer was dead again he waiting 10mins and the car came back on without any indication for its shutting off.
While merging onto i75 off of square lake rd north of detroit, transmission momentarily failed then engaged with a jolt in a low gear making this normally routine maneuver quite treacherous. Luckily there was no accident or injury. Shortly thereafter transmission underwent complete rebuild at my cost. I have since discovered that this malady is quite common with this model and year at approximately this mileage.
While driving at 40mph, my 2003 Honda Accord violently down shifted (mimicking the effect of slamming on the brakes). I slowed to 30mph and the car continued to violently down shift, slipping in and out of gears. After backing up, the car seemed to have a delay when I shifted into drive. Once it engaged it jerked into gear. I originally noticed problems when I first purchased the car of rough transition between first and second gear and also while down shifting. The dealership told me that no fail codes showed on the computer and that it was common but there is nothing wrong with the car. This is a scarey issue as it could have caused a collision with the violent halting force.
For 2 days upon startup in the morning the transmission appeared to slip when shifting from reverse to drive. The third day at the speed of 55 mph I began to accelerate and found that here was no power. I backed off the gas pedal, tried again and got nothing. I downshifted and tried to accelerate once more. I felt the transmission slip into gear. For the next 5 miles it went in and out of gear and then nothing, no transmission at all. The car is now at a Honda dealership. Honda of America had me tow it there and get a damage assessment and the cost of the repair. The dealer diagnosed the transmission failure and gave a repair cost of $4,000. Including tax. Honda of America has offered us $1,000 toward the repair due to our perfect maintenance record on the car. This car had the transmission fixed in the 2004 recall by Honda. This car only has 75,000 miles. Honda of America refuses to acknowledge that this is a problem very specific to this make and hear of the Accord. Honda of America refuses to to acknowledge the thousands of other Hondas' with the exact same problem and all seem to have between 70-90 thousand miles!!!!! the Honda dealer told me " I better take the one time offer of $1,000 from Honda of America" leading me to believe I had to make a decision. Upon further investigation I have 30 days to make a decision. I am a former Honda owner and have never had a problem like this and firmly believe I should never have a problem like this with a Honda automobile.
The consult circut board that lights up where to find the defroster, heater, stero, ac is totally dark. This is a safety issue and I must turn on a light to see the controls and I feel this is a great safety issue and should be a recall for all Honda's since I have read on line how many people had had this problem. I was never notifed by Honda that they would fix it free (possible) if you get your car there before 7yrs or 100,000 miles but they keep that very quiet. I was so busy paying to keep my home and Honda never sent me any word on this and problem.
On December 30, 2011 the back-light on my radio stereo as well as the a/c panel went out. This poses a safety issue because 1. During storms or bad weather, I cannot see what station to turn the radio for tornado warnings or weather updates. 2. To adjust a/c or heater settings, I must take my focus off the road to turn on the overhead light and adjust settings. 3. In weather conditions such as high fog or where you need to use a defrost, I must must take my focus off the road to turn on the overhead light and adjust settings.
I had my 01 Honda Accord ex recently inspected by an independent mechanic and they found a rusty hole (size of a quarter) on the topside of the subframe on the passenger side. They stated, that other than this small rusted area, the rest of the subframe and car body was in excellent condition and completely free of rust. Mechanic stated, air conditioning unit is draining on this area of the subframe and this could be under recall. They said this was very dangerous and serious safety issue, the subframe should be replaced ASAP, and recomended I take it to a Honda dealership for recall issues. Took it to mike pruitt Honda akron,OH for inspection (for this issue), they put it on a lift and from underneath said they couldn't find a hole in the subframe. I told them, the rust hole is only visable on the topside of the passengerside subframe. They found a small hole (where I mentioned), said it wasn't a safety issue, and there weren't any recalls for this issue. They denied it was caused by the air conditioning leaking on that part of the subframe, yet couldn't give me an alternate reason. They were evasive and dishonest and told them I'm going to another dealer. I brought it to park Honda for their inspection, they found the rust hole, and recommended the entire subframe be replaced at the cost 0f $2250. 00. They evaded answering what caused this issue (air-conditioning leaking on subframe) . I had them do this work and in the meantime,I will consult a lawyer.
I was driving to work today and my car began to downshift into 1st gear when I was running about 45 miles per hour. It began jerking and after pulling over it would not go into reverse. If I had been on the freeway, this could have caused a serious accident. This is a major complaint with 2003 Honda Accord owners. Something needs to be done.
Paint on the roof is coming off in large pieces.
Smells burning when use heated seats, something is burning. Passenger seat, we are afraid of fire,, we stopped using it,.
Transmission failure-on 11-21-2011 my transmission failed and now has to be replaced with a new Honda transmission at a cost of $4,000. 00.
My transmission failed while driving on my way to work the morning of Nov. 16th with no warning whatsoever. Luckily I was not in an accident due to the fact I was unable to control the car because the rpm's were all over the place and the vehicle would only rev but not go any further. Therefore I immediately had to pull over in fear of causing an accident. I have researched the past few days how many other 2003 Honda Accord owners have had the same problem with their transmissions and there should really be a recall done by Honda. The transmission should not be going out at 76,000 miles. My car is currently being repaired at an independent transmission shop with an estimated cost of around $3400. I hope to recover some of that cost from Honda but further action needs to happen to ensure more people with similar year vehicles do not have to experience this as well.
Since July 2011 , my 2003 Honda Accord lx v6 experienced sluggish in the transmission. Sometime, suddenly, my car felt like someone slammed on the brakes causing me to jerking forward. It happened a few more times, then in September 2011, I brought the car in the dealer for the transmission service. I told the dealer service advisor about the symptom, after the dealer flushed the transmission fluid, then told me that the car sometime sluggish, replaced the fluid will fixed this. The problem got worse, more noise, jerking when the car automatically shifting, in November , the traction control system engaged, and the engine check light were illuminated. The car was slow to move. Brought the car to the dealer again on 11/14/2011, the dealer told me that the car "needs linear shift solenoid and brake light switch, parts had to be ordered, and the car can be drive !!! I drove the car home, it was so bad that I had to let the car sit waiting for parts. On 11/29/2011, the dealer replaced the linear shift solenoid and the brake light switch, then told me that the problem was fixed. Got the car home, the next day , I only drove about 5 miles, the noise and all the symptoms came back. I had to brought the car back to the dealer again. This time, they consulted with the Honda company technical service. After several days, the dealer told me that Honda technical service determine that the power train (transmission) is causing the problem; I need a transmission replacement, and it cost $3900. 00. Called Honda customer service to register a complain about Honda service. This definitely need a recall.
The front subframe of my 1998 Honda Accord lx has rusted through due to salt accumulation at only ~95k miles making it a safety hazard. This is the only rusting on the car, either than that spot the car is rust free.
Between 11/04/11 and 12/03/11 my power steering hose busted and leaked out all my fluid for no apparent reason. My driver-side power window stopped working, and then my transmission started slipping and is getting progressively worse.
Transmission fluid may be leaking, engine (or transmission) stutters after go maybe a block.
I bought two Honda's on the same day from proctor Honda in tallahassee, FL. The 2009 Accord has been recalled for a safety defect. . I contacted the dealer I bought them from and was told via e mail they would not have time to make that repair until 11-7-2011 or later. I was just at the dealer getting an oil change and they were working on every kind of car the us makes. It is not a recall if they decide to assign insufficient resources to correct this. It is an unsafe joke! this repair takes one hour or less According to another family member that had it done in jacksonville.
While traveling on the freeway the transmission jumped down to first gear, resulting in my car suddenly decelerating to a speed of 20 mph. I was very fortunate to not be rear ended and have since had to replace the transmission. I know this is a known issue with this model and year Honda, however I did go through the original process of the manufacturer recall. I have done research on this model and it seems it is a prevalent problem. Honda will not acknowledge the issue.
While driving on the interstate I experienced a sluggish jolt. The rpm's reved up and the car was having trouble switching from 2nd-3rd gear. My mechanic and a transmission expert stated the the transmission is going out and not worth repairing based on several same year make/models he has encountered. This along with the motor mounts needing to be replaced will cost me approximately $5000. 00 my complaint is after researching this issue on-line I have found hundreds of Honda 2003 Accord owners with the same exact issue, some of them move severe. Honda did a patch job recall the summer of 2004, but clearly the problem has not been fixed as I now have the same issue associated with the recall. Why isn't Honda taking responsibilty?.
A failed transmission on a used 2001 Honda Accord. This transmission failed not long after the extended warranty period. It took a little longer to break. Honda refuses to help getting it fixed even though they are aware of their sub-standard product.
On Saturday at 11:50 pm, I was cruising at the 169th & maple rd, omaha, ne parking lot. . At a front parking junction, I made a right turn at about 2-3 mph speed. I slowed and braked for a pedestrian walking across my path. My car started revving and accelerating rapidly. I immediately pressed the brake pedals harder. The harder I pressed, the harder the acceleration became. I became very concerned and scared that the car might accelerate suddenly and may cause a terrible accident. I quickly move the gear hand pedal shifters foward to (p)ark. The car jerked forward a bit and then stood still; however, the engine started revving with a loud din and then back to normal. I started to slowly move the gear back into (d)rive mode. The car behaved normally and I parked my car in a available parking slot. Prior to this incident, I had a minor incident similar to this. This was a about 2 weeks back. I was slowed and stopped at a traffic light to make a right turn to maple. While in stop mode pressing the brake, the car started jerking and accelerating forward slowly. I quickly pressed the brake harder and it jerked forward and stopped. At that point, I just shrugged it off, thinking that was unusual but wasn't really bad to take issue. All this happened when I changed my Accord hybrid battery and a hybrid controller over a month back when I had a hybrid battery and the controller that needed to be replace on account of a safety issue with the car. The car felt ok after the change. However, I had the car since 2005 and never did I encounter a sudden acceleration on this car, not once until after the battery and controller change. I can only relate now to what actually has happened and is very concerned for my life and my family to whoever drives the vehicle.
2003 Honda Accord v6 transmission failure in the middle of traffic, almost caused an accident but fortunately this was on a road with a slower speed limit. 3 out of 4 engine mounts are broken. I have owned this car 8 months and the estimated repair is $6000. I have found several websites and forums where this appears to be a problem for 2003 and 2004 transmissions on the Accord. Most drivers just stalled on the highway/road they were traveling on and this is a serious safety concern. How can these cars continue to be sold where this is a common problem.
When I stop or slow down the car shuts off. I have no steering and no brakes and no hazard lights. Car shuts down while driving.
The passenger side door handle cable has a small plastic anchor that anchors the cable to to the inside of the door panel. The plastic piece was severed into two pieces by the metal grip that holds it in place. The end resullt is the passenger door can not be opened from the inside. If something was to happen and I needed to esacpe the vehicle from the passenger side, I would not have access to do so. I believe the plastic anchor breaking is a defect caused by inherently bad design of a plastic item locking into a metal item.
The gas tank on my 2001 Honda Accord started to leak from the horizontal welded seam at approx. 126,000 miles. It was not noticed for over a month since it only leaked when the tank was over half full. During that period, my daughter used the car and often transported her three children to their school. When the car was brought into the local Honda dealership, Honda bloomfield, they considered the leak serious enough to take immediate fire/explosion precautions around the car. They replaced the tank at a cost of $1,307. 20. After I complained, they reduced the bill by 50%, but would not let me have the old tank. I was told that Honda had a 30 day option to keep the old tank since they had paid for part of the repair. They allowed me to take photos of the tank which show extensive rust and delamination of the welded seam all around the tank. I purchased the car new from anderson Honda (now bloomfield Honda) and it has been used as normal daily transportation in the detroit metropolitan area in summer and winter and has had all major maintenance performed by the anderson - bloomfield dealership. The car has had no rear end collision damage and is normally parked outside when not in use. I feel this was a dangerous failure and should be fully covered by Honda. Even a minor rear end collision could have started a fire. Honda gas tanks should be able to survive typical michigan driving conditions or should have an inspection/replacement mileage limit imposed similar to the engine timing belts.
I own a 2004 Honda Accord ex coupe v6 engine. . . And the transmission has failed at 79,000k miles. A safety issue because I was almost rear-ended as I was trying to go up a hill and the car did not want to go forward anymore although it was in drive and I was pressing the gas. . . It kept rolling backwards as if it was in reverse, and I have an automatic transmission!!!! this seems to be an ongoing problem for this make and model of this year's vehicle. . . I want to join the other thousands of people out their to report this as a safety problem, it couldv'e cost me my life an anybody that was behind me!.
Transmission failed.
I am the first owner of Honda Accord 2001 purchased it the same year, and currently it has 130,500 miles on it. First transmission failure occurred around 2008 when it had 65,000 miles. Fortunately, I had an extended warranty, and the cost for replacing it was covered. The second failure happened September 2011 when it had 130,000 miles. It seems that the transmission fails about every 65,000 miles regardless of timespan. I had several cars before, none of them had problems with transmission before 70,000 miles. . Read more...
I first noticed losing power on acceleration on afull stop. . . Then it turns sluggish to accelerate more when it reaches 60-70 mph even pressed hard on the gas pedal. . . It's like losing power.
I have a 2003 Honda Accord ex v6. It has been serviced as per instructions in Honda owners manual. . Read more...
After have the recall done on this car 5 years ago. My transmission is having all the issues known by everyone. Engine light is one service computer states transmission shifting problem. Aamco has told me that its a known issues with this model car to have transmission issue before the recall and way after and yet Honda is silent! I am sorry but this is just not right!.
The day after my ac stopped working I decided to take it to the nearest dealer which was autowest Honda of fremont. Even though summer was almost over it was still hot enough not to live with out ac so I decided to have my ac diagnosed. Apparently the dealer said that a small pebble hit my condenser which caused my ac to stop working. My insurance will cover it but my deductible is too high, my Honda warranty does not want to cover it because it was not a defect and of course the cost to fix the ac condenser plus labor would cost about $900!! I really find this type of incident un fair! if it that simple for a condenser to be damaged by a pebble why would Honda put out a vehicle like that out on the streets! I know the condenser has to be exposed but I believe the model of this vehicle exposes the condenser too much and if its that simple for the condenser to get damaged then Honda has to do something about it. I bought the car brand new and to have such a necessary repair running for $900 at 30,000 miles is ridiculous. Either put better condenser on Honda vehicles or don't put vehicles out there where one has to worry about hitting pebbles because they might cost you another $900! really unhappy with Honda right now, especially the fact that I love Honda's and most of my family members have one. Hopefully Honda can fix this, brand new car and already unhappy at 30,000! and of course I had to pay the$150 for diagnosing the thing because it was not covered by my Honda protection plan! how are we suppose to drive a Honda Accord coupe with piece of mind if I have to worry about a pebble hitting my condenser and damaging it, when streets are full of them! I need a car that would give me piece of mind not one that would put me at risk financially every time I'm driving the damn thing! sorry for the complain Honda and hope you can do something to fix this.
Driving on the highway in traffic, my 2003 Honda Accord v6 suddenly dropped into first gear suddenly slowing my travel from 55 mph to 35 mph. I narrowly avoided being hit by the vehicle behind me by turning off onto the shoulder. The Accord then downshifted and continued to jump suddenly between second and third gears. The Accord showed no dashboard indications that something was wrong but continued to drive changing gears sporadically. My car was taken to a local Honda dealer where I was told the transmission needed to be replaced entirely but would cost more than the vehicle was worth.
The transmission in this vehicle is faulty.
Transmission constantly slips when accelerating. This is concerning because I cannot depend on my car to accelerate when I need to. I've taken the car to the dealership for repair and am awaiting their feedback.
Honda has made an inferior product and does not stand by their car. I have found is pointless to contact customer service because it does nothing but frustrate me the consumer! their customer service is horrible and blames the customer for being upset because they built a cheap product. I bought this car because it is a reliable car, that would last me years if maintained properly. I have Honda do my regular maintenance, but this time, I couldn't afford their outrageous costs. I have under 32000miles and my rear brakes and entire a/c system have already been replaced. Since my car is out of warranty (4years old now) for the a/c they said since I did not go to their dealership, it was out of pocket for me. Of course they tease me and tell me if I did pay the $60 for the inspection, then they could have done something about it. My brakes did occur during warranty, and they said nothing was wrong with the brakes and that having them wear out under 20,000miles is normal. There is really no way to know when the a/c needs to be replaced, but because they put in a small reciever drier, the drier needs to be replaced every 15,000-25,000 miles!! Honda doesn't tell you this, and if you don't do this, your condenser will be destroyed, and you run the risk of having to install a brand new a/c system in a car not even 10years old! this has happened to my brother's Honda Accord 2004, my mom's Honda civic 2009, and my Honda Accord 2007. This is not a safety problem, but a huge expense to the consumer. I recently read that Honda is recalling vehicles to update the software on the automatic transmission to reduce the possibility of transmission damage. This will affect my year, but I have not been notified or seen any recalls on their official website. I wonder what else Honda has skimpt on and is going to force me to pay for because they refuse to listen to their consumers.
The car jerks into gears especially 2nd!.
Rear brake pads completely worn on 2008 Honda Accord.
We purchased a new 2008 Honda Accord exl in 2008. It has onluy 40,000 miles on it and my husband was driving and went to pass and the engine missed and and began to shudder and misfire and almost had a head on for could not accelerate and had to find a way to get back into line. We took it in and the only thing to fix it was replace the spark plug which we did and car was fine for a few weeks but now it is doing it again. I feel it's a safety issue if in the middle of driving you cannot accel the vehicle.
While driving up a hill, the car jerked a few times, then gave a hard knock or two. I stopped the car for about two minutes. When I tried to accelerate, the car dragged and could only move very slowly. I pulled into a nearby driveway and awaited the tow. My mechanic was able to back it into a parking spot, but that was the last movement the car made on its own. The car was then towed to the Honda dealer who said that the transmission needed to be replaced.
Since the purchase i’ve experienced continual transmission problems. Upon speaking with the dealership I was assured all was fine. You can imagine my surprise when I received notice of the transmission recall (NHTSA 04v176000). Upon repair, in September 2004, I did not notice repair improvement, and continued to detect the rough grind of transmission shift and a whining sound. In 2009 I experienced a catastrophic transmission failure to which I had sought repair. In December 2010 I experienced another transmission failure. I have just now experienced my 3rd transmission failure, July 2011. My power steering pump had always had a faint whine, but Honda services never identified it as concerning. The problem progressively became worse until Honda finally suggested a repair, but informed me that the component was then out of warranty and would be a costly repair. I decided to delay repair until June 2011. Ac problems manifested in September 2005 and required replacement in April 2008. My center council clock and temperature display has been flickering, dimmed, and absent since 2009. The interlock stuck issue first materialized in 2008 and serviced in July 2010. My airbag warning light has been active since 2008 with an occasional but repetitive tcs alert; and my headlamp glass has been hazed since 2005. The paint deterioration is ridiculously embarrassing, the leather seating began showing wear 2 years in, my seatbelt doesn’t return to the original released position, head liner has water leak stains, cd player stopped working, exposed wiring is visible at the driver door hinge, i’ve gone through 3 batteries, countless tires, one cracked windshield, and I have always suffer from poor radio reception and occasional navigational signal roaming issues. In these times of thrift conscious fuel consumption, I utilize my nav tools to monitor my driving activity. I’m stunned to report I get a fuel economy of 24 mpg highway, not the 31 mpg as sticker reports.
There is a loud grinding/rattling sound after a cold start up.
2010 Honda Accord. Pre-mature rear brake ware. I have 25,ooo miles, all highway. The rear brakes had to be replaced. I went to Honda. They said it was my fault. And wanted $ 250, to fix. Said I needed new roators (lie, local shop said rear brake shot, not roators. Dealer no help. Called american Honda, they said they would call the dealer, and try to help. Dealer told them I was never there. I have invoice, there is a class action suite, for 2009 rear brakes, not my 2010. (yet).
I purchesed a 2004 Honda Accord in October of 2008, the car was running and fucntioning well until the year 2010 where I started to have problems with the radio not working, the transmission failed and now in 2011 had to replace the sop ecm (per hoda dealer the memory card of the car), I have spent more than $6,000 on this car because I had had so many major a minor problems with it. And even though I have followed the schedule maintainance visits to the dealer this car still reflecting problems. I have gotten eveything fixed till this moment and im afraid the car will still give me problems in the future.
Trunk lid will not stay in the up /opened position. The left and right trunk springs were replaced Jan/Feb 2010. Trunk lid continues to fall. On the head of the individual attempting to access the trunk space.
1998 Honda acoord would stall without warning while running. The failure happened at least two or three times a week for a 2 month period. Brought the car to two mechanics who weren't sure what the problem was. Located information online about a recall in 2002 for the ignition switch. Car was fix during for the recall. Brough car to the dealer and discovered it was the ignition switch again! cost $100 to replace the second time.
Since my purchase, June of 2007 I have had several problems with the brake system and at that time Honda had fulfilled the quality expectations. However; a larger issue is at hand regarding my car transmission causing a leaking problem. Upon discovering the leakage, I immediately took my car out for service. I have now found out that Honda misdiagnosed the problem and performed unnecessary repairs charging me a $300 dollars out of my pocket. Within couple of weeks I was back at the dealership to raise my concerns about consistent leakage. At this point they advised me that it¿s transmission needs to be replaced. After 3 months of arguing and writing letters to the Honda ceo, finally the same case manager who refused to help me at first, offered a 50% coverage by Honda to replace its transmission. That is around $2000 out of my packet fixing their defective transmission. At this point, I can't drive this car. The smoke and burning smell coming from under hood causes a safety concern. I worry that if I take this car for a ride it would be my last time seeing my family. My faith in this company has been ruined forever - but thanks to one person - they don't care. Please help!!!.
I was driving on maryland route 270 at 60mph when the car violently jolted and wheels locked for a second putting me into a split second skid. Almost had a devastating crash with my family in the car. Apparently the transmission went from 5th gear to 1st gear on its own. Thankfully I made it back home driving about 10mph with the car still jolting back and forth. As I was backing the car into a parking spot the vehicle went in reverse just fine but after pulling forward and attempting to reverse again the car did not back up. When I turned the car off and back on again I was able to move in reverse.
2003 Honda Accord, v6. Transmission failed with no warning, while turning left. This could have easily led to a serious accident. After inspection mechanic states that the failure has all of the typical characteristics of the failure of the 2003 Accord transmission. It will cost me 3,800 to repair (with only 94,000 miles on the car and a perfect maintenance record at a Honda dealership). But I just feel lucky that we survived. This is a very dangerous failure. There was zero warning of a problem until I was left with the transmission neutral with cars headed at us going 60+ mph. Thank god the other drivers were paying attention and slammed on the brakes. One oncoming driver went into the ditch.
My 2003 Honda Accord v-6 engine had been acting different for a year now. It is automatic. When I started going I had to go really slow to let my car shift into each of the 5 gears. Then one day when I was driving it would not go ito 2nd gear so I finally decided to take it in and have it looked at it had 150,000 miles on it . The Honda dealer told me I needed a new transmission. I payed 3,800 dollars to have it replaced. I have read many complaints of others who have had the same problem, when will Honda be responsible for the bad transmissions in their cars? we payed 25,000 for the car and expected to get alot more mileage for our money than this. I've gotten better mileage out of my Ford focus 1999 that I'm still driving and never had any problems with it. My cost for it 11,000.
In front of the 2010 Accord there are two big holes cut out for a sporty look. Everyday driving to and from work on the highway something flew up from off the road and went into one of the open areas and sliced my air condensor and all of my freon leaked out and it wouldn't be patched entire piece had to be replaced so my complaint is why would an area like that be left wide open to a main part of the a/c and not a piece of mesh there to protect that. It was not covered on my 100,000 mile warrenty so therefore the repair had to come out of my pocket on a 6 month old car. I should not be affraid to drive my car but honestly I am due to the fact that I just had this fixed and it very well could happen again no warning all because this are is exposed and it is not covered under my warrenty!!!!.
Driving down the highway and my 1999 Honda Accord ex. Shuts off. The steering whell sometimes tightens up but this last time I was able to pull over without a problem. Good thing I was in the right hand lane close to the shoulder. My car has been doing this for a while and cannot figure out why. At first it would go down to a really low idle before it shut off but now it just turns off. It's even worse now that I changed the spark plugs.
My Honda Accord 2009 is only 33, 216 miles, less than 2 years old but t the abs has problem, I have to replace wheel speed sensor, Honda does not cover because the warranty is over. I have never had abs problem with my 2002 Accord that has mileage is over 100,000. I would like to report this issue as abs malfuntion.
The clear coat is delaminating/peeling from the paint coat on my 2003 Honda Accord. I went to the dealer and was told by the service manager there is nothing they can do, I meet with the customer service rep. This week. I believe that this delamination and peeling must be a factory defect and should be corrected by Honda.
Driving down the interstate my glass sunroof spontaneously shattered.
Clear coat paint is peeling off around the edges of the entire car.
I have Honda Accord 2008 and this are 2nd recall from american Honda motor CO. I had first recall was rear brake pad problem and didn`t qualified get refund fixed problem. And,now I have 2nd recall notice from american Honda motor CO. ,there are nose mask problem. Since I had 1st recall that may have take care of matter from Honda CO. I was very disappointed. I will never buy Honda car in my future and my entire family and freinds all I refer my people. That`s all I have say and even I have warranty on my car I will not fix it.
Brand new Honda Accord lx 2011 worst seat ever back pain lower back pain everyday with single commute to work it is horrible.
2007 Accord, dealer said a/c compresser was over charged and sent metal fragments throughout the system. Cost $2,700 to repair. The only one who has serviced this vehicle is wolfchase Honda in bartlett, TN.
The night of February 22 while my family and I were driving down the highway our Honda Accord 2003 transmission downshifted very violently almost causing us to have an accident. We all yelled and had to stop the car on the side of the road for a while. It was very scary! it was like the car was unmanagable at that moment. Somehow my husband managed to drive the car home very slowly because we were close. The next day he took the car to the Honda dealer. They told us that the transmission looked really bad and need it to be changed, of course after we pay pay them $4,080. 12!!! we have take good care of our car and this is terrible! now the car is inside our garage and we still have to pay for it. To our surprise, after google Accord's transmissions on the internet, we found many complaints from other Honda owners that experienced the same problem. We are shoked by Honda's lack of responsibilty and support!! this is a safety issue and we believe they should consider people complaints and recall the cars. It will be very sad if someone have an accident and die on the road because of the Honda transmission failure. We hope that this will be investigated and fixed by Honda. Thank you.
My Honda Accord 2001 srs light on. This is the second tiem. I did not received any recalled noticed, when I called Honda, they told me it expired a few day. I did not notice the srs light was onwhile drivng a short distance. When I found out, I called the Honda and they told me the warrantly was over foe a few day. They expexted you to called them on Sunday eventhough, they open only on weekday.
1997 Honda Accord. Consumer expresses discontent with a dispute with american Honda motor company regarding a recall repair the consumer stated american Honda informed them the vehicle was purchased in canada.
At first instance, the car began to show sluggish conditions when shifting gears. As time went on, the 'slips' began to grow more and more dangerous to the point that the car could barely shift between gears at all and was a safety hazard for both driver and to anyone around me as I was vulnerable to be rear-ended by anyone too close behind (because the car could not accelerate) and to those ahead of me as the car tended to jerk forward. After a repair to the solenoid once before, the car's performance improved, however some sluggish conditions remain and the conditions only worsen as time goes on. At 102,000 miles, the car's 2nd' transmission appears to need to be replaced to function properly. This is a known issue for Honda Accords as reported on several websites and known and acknowledged by independent mechanics across the country. It is irresponsible and reprehensible for Honda to not take responsibility for this and be held accountable. At this current time Honda refuses to take such action and will only offer minor reduction in repair costs that hardly seems fair to the thousand's of owners affected by this. Please keep record of this and offer whatever assistance you can provide. . Read more...
I started my car and put it in reverse in a parking garage as I was attempting to exit the garage. The car accelerated while I was in reverse, slamming into two parked vehicles. The car then accelerated forward, slamming into a concrete column and coming to a rest. I attempted to slam on my brakes but the car would not stop. It felt like my accelerator was stuck rather than a problem with the brakes.
On January 21, 2010 I bought a 2001 Honda Accord ex from a private party. I have owned Honda vehicles all my life; the dependability is a major reason why. After owning the vehicle for almost 1 year, the transmission started giving me problems. The transmission would slip out of gear and not engage. It would eventually not work all together. I took the vehicle into my local automobile shop and to my surprise they told me I needed a new transmission. The cost was nearly $2100 just to get a rebuilt one. A new one from the dealership would cost me anywhere from $3000-$4000. I called my local Honda dealership and spoke with a service representative who told me since I purchased it through a private party I would need to call Honda. He also told me that there were some issues in the past with Accord transmissions. On the same day, I called Honda and spoke with a representative that worked in the recall department. He told me that Honda did indeed have transmission failure issues with the Honda Accord of that year; but that my Honda would not be covered because it had 130,000 miles vs. The warranty coverage of 109,000 miles. Unsatisfied with the results, I spoke with a supervisor and she informed me that she looked into alternatives as far as paying for the expenses; and she was unable to find a solution. To my disappointment; I was unable to receive assistance to pay for this large bill that was due to a defective transmission manufacturered by Honda. As a long term consumer of Honda; words cannot explain my melancholy. Since I was given no assistance, and my Honda is my only means of transportation to work, I was left with no other option than to incur a financial hardship by covering the expenses myself. Total cost = $2083.
While breaking to a stop for a red light or to slow down to less than 10 mph to turn and then accelerating to proceed, the engine would hesitate for 2-5 seconds and then function normally. Engine did not stop, but remianed in idle mode. Hesitation happens at random about 2% of time. New vehicle with under 1500 miles. Does not matter if engine is hot or cold. Taken to dealer and explained in detail. Dealer was unable to duplicate; so nothing was repaired. Issue did not cause a warning light or error code. Came real close to being hit on a left hand turn when engine failed to accelerate.
I own a 2011 Honda Accord. While driving and pressing the gas the vehicle would hesitate for a couple of seconds and then go. Other times it accelerates prematurely while driving.
I have owned a 2003 Honda Accord since new and now have 71000 miles on it and twice I was notified by letter from Honda of potential problems. I have one of the stated problems now but not covered by the warranty that was extended if it occured. The display does not work for the radio/hvac system. The local dealer from whom I bought the car said to do some research about the problem. I have. I am not competent to do the work and the problem is expensive to remedy. I will not be able to reset the code for this device to operate should the battery need to be disconnected because the led display does not work.
2004 Honda Accord.
Problems with Honda Accord car.
Horn button needs repair but is integral to a very expensive airbag assembly, making the horn repair financially unachievable, resulting in consumers driving cars with inoperable horns, very unsafe.
Since the first incident I have had a clicking noise coming from the ac on the right side vent on my 2009 Honda Accord. It is October of 2011 and the dealer has now replaced the same blower motor 3 times. It alleviates the issue, only for it to return. The dealer has no other explanation. Also, I have replaced 2 door actuator motors. This car was bought in December of 2009 and it is October of 2011. I will not buy another Honda due to having issues occur repeatedly and so soon after a new purchase. Obviously brakes have to be fixed again and again.
The paint is coming off to the primer! I was back in 2010 it was weather related but where it started chipping I just do not see how it is weather related!!!! every Honda I see my year model down the paint is coming off.
In larger city after many red lights, the warm transmission began slipping when the light turned green. This has continued to happen. The problem now is intermittent but I think can become quite serious. I received no sympathy from the dealer. From the internet I see many similar complaints and all have no resolution from Honda.
Read this through and accept it as accurate. I am sane, intelligent, a former cpa. The problem is unusual, but I was there; you weren't. 2007 Honda Accord. When stopped for a traffic signal, car began to vibrate and shake violently to a booming base noise. The level of sound: louder than standing by the speakers at a rock concert. The volume hurt my ears; it was easily loud enough to cause hearing damage for a prolonged exposure. I've worked in a machine shop, and I know loud. (I assumed someone with a mega stereo and sub-woofer pulled up alongside me. My radio was off, and I have a stock system, not capable of this magnitude of sound. ) when I turned at the light, my vehicle was the only one there, and I realized the sound was coming from my car. The sound was definitively from speakers and an amplified sound, not a normal engine or exhaust sound. I revved the engine, and the sound did not change. The sound decreased slightly as I drove, and then resumed its former level. I pulled into a gas station, shut the engine off, and looked under the hood and body. I saw nothing. On the way home, I stopped by a Honda dealer, and they said they had never heard of such a thing. The service advisor mentioned it might have been the anc, or electronic noise cancellation, which is used to produce opposite sound waves to cancel out engine and road noise, creating a quiet cab environment. I asked if the system had the power to shake the car, and she responded yes. I was stopped at a light, so the only danger was to my hearing. If this happens to someone in traffic, the results could be dangerous. The onslaught of noise and shaking was jarring. This would appear to be an electronic glitch, and therefore very hard to diagnose. I am putting this on record so that anyone else experiencing it has supporting incidents.
I purchased a new 2010 Honda Accord lx-p in late November of 2009. On September 10, 2010, I scheduled an appointment to bring the vehicle in because there was a severe whining noise at idle that was most prominent under speeds of 20 mph. The whining noise started about four weeks earlier and seemed to dissipate once the transmission shifted into second gear. The noise sounds exactly like a power steering pump low on fluid or just before the pump starts to go out. I took the vehicle directly to the dealership since it was under warranty and left it there for several hours. Upon returning to the garage, the technician informed me the noise is a common occurrence with all Accords with the 4-cylinder engine and automatic transmission. He stated he even removed the power steering belt to rule-out the power steering pump. I then asked him if this was the case, where exactly was the whining coming from? he informed me that he just didn't know. Please help! to overcome the severe whining, I have to turn the radio up or turn on the ac/heater fan to drown out the noise.
Car died as if someone turned the key off. First 5 times it was while slowing down. Last time on 2/7/11 was going 65 mph on freeway and was in the middle lane of traffic when it just quit running as if I turned the key off. It was due to faulty ignition switch. Honda claims that my particular vehicle was not part of a recall for this identical problem, however, many Honda's of that year and other years were included in the recall. There was a recall for another part of the ignition system that covered my year and model. That was not the problem.
The issue is I can remove the ignition key without the shift lever being in "park" on my 2000 Honda Accord, VIN [xxx]. There is a current recall, but the dealer states it does not apply to my vehicle. It should be added to the recall. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Rear brakes needed to be replaced at 19000 miles. Dealership told me that is expected for my make and model.
Clear coat and paint is disappearing at an alarmingly fast rate (and early).
2008 Honda Accord ex/4-door sedan/4-cylinder: bought new car 03/09; at considerably less than 10,000 miles rear brakes wore out prematurely, thereafter front brakes also wore out. Had to pay for replacements due to american Honda motor corp refusing to cover under warranty. They refuse any assistance or resolution.
2008 Honda Accord - 4 door: at approximately 7:47 am on Friday, June 4, 2010, I was turning into a parking space in an open air lot, with the wheel turned hard to the left, I went to put my foot on the brake and the car lurched forward as if I was pressing on the accelerator. I could not figure out what was happening and when I looked down at my foot, it was on the left side of the brake pedal. Even slamming down on the brake did not prevent me from smashing into the Nissan xterra in the parking spot in front of mine and pushing the SUV forward quite a bit. There was no floor mat issue obstructing the accelerator, it was several inches away in its usual position. Hopefully, this will be the only failure. I called the police who filed a report. My insurance company told me to get an appraisal of the damage. No one was in the Nissan, but damage was done to his vehicle as well. Luckily no one was injured.
A noise has developed in our 2009 Honda Accord in the dash, where the passenger side and right side "a" pillar air bags are located. The car has been returned to a local dealer on 3 seperate occasions. They continue to repair the problem by installing some type of padding in the dash. After each repair, the noise returns after driving about 10 miles. I have asked them on two seperate occasions to remove the dash/air bags and inspect the effected areas. I have also reported the problem to the Honda customer assistance department. They have indicated they will review my information and have someone call back. My concerns are; that something is loose, creating the noise, along with the fact that some type of problem may exist with the air bags which could result in either an unwanted/non deployment situtation or if something is rubbing on a wiring harness a passenger compartment fire.
I was driving on the parkway and the gas pedal engaged itself and accelerated by itself. I was trying to break but the break pedal also was locked and I had to move away from car to car so that I would not hit them and then finally the pedal released itself and reduced the speed. I took the car to Honda and I am waiting for them to tell me what to do next.
Basically, my 2006 Honda Accord ex 4-door sedan began to smoke and combusted almost immediately as I was taking it to the mechanic. Here's the story. My car was parked in a friend's garage that was located in gainesville, FL where I noticed that two lights appeared for the first time. One light was an emissions malfunction light and the other was a vehicle stability assist control light. This is after I had my car fully serviced for the usual 30,000 mile service. Anyways, I was taking the car to the mechanic since I figured those lights were somewhat concerning. I figured the emissions light needed to be looked at. I drove maybe a maximum of three to four miles when I noticed smoke under the hood of the car. There was a fire starting and surely enough it started to combust about 10 to 15 seconds later. My brakes also seemed to give out at the same time so I swerved into a parking lot to slow the car down and proceeded to get out of it with all my possessions still inside. As I watched in dismay as my car was on fire, I was wondering what come next. I had to deal with all the proper authorities, and subsequently became very ill the next day. I had suffered from a decent amount of stress and trauma since but I feel quite better now. There was no reason for this to happen because my car should have been in good order and has been in great condition for the past four years. The car is totally destroyed and the insurance company has taken care of it. I haven't made any formal complaints to newspapers, websites, or anything. This seems to be a good place to voice my concerns as to what happened and such.
I was hearing a rubbing noise when driving my car. Upon taking it to the auto repair shop, it was found that the break pads had cracked/split and caused damage to the rotors. The break pads were not worn, but had to be replaced due to the splitting and my rotors had to be turned on the machine due to damage from the split break pads.
2009 Honda Accord 4 cyylinder, 22k miles-original owner accelerator got stuck and car continued to accelerate on the on ramp to I-64 in louisville, ky. Tried to downshift, even tried neutral. Engaged the brakes and the brakes locked up. Eventually the brakes released and I was able to coast to a median in the middle of the highway. Very thank I didn't hurt anyone. Took car to the Honda dealership and they say that their diagnostic test shows that nothing is wrong. Nothing registered on the car computer. I am 100% certain that the pedal was not caught on the floor mat. One of the most frightening experiences of my life. I will be buying a new car immediately.
Multiple issues with Honda Accord 2000 ex v6 3. 0l. 96k miles as of 11/25/09 1. Srs light has been on and dealer is not fixing it saying it is not a safety issue 2. Transmission failed and I had to spend 2k fixing it 3. Egr clogged and check engine light is on. Dealer not fixing it saying it has been done before.
Honda 2005 Accord my power windows will not always function. Window will not go down when switch is pressed. If it is down, it will not come up. Neither direction works correctly. This has been happening for almost 5 months. This week the window went down while I was driving but had not pressed the switch. Our Honda fit 2007 just received a recall notice for this exact issue. Is there also a problem with Honda Accord 2005?.
27sep04 I took my 2003 Honda Accord in to fuller Honda in chula vista, CA for recall work. They "installed an oil jet on transmission second gear inspection" under the recall. 22oct09 my 2003 Honda Accord experienced multiple transmission problems. While leaving from work, I had difficulty getting my vehicle into gear. Eventually I was able to get it into gear and started driving home via a California interstate during rush hour traffic. Upon attempting to merge onto the interstate, my Honda went into "neutral" gear. All it would do is "rev" and I could not get it to go into gear in either forward or reverse. Now my vehicle was stranded in the middle lane of a san diego interstate during rush hour traffic. Since I was unable to exit my vehicle as other cars were speeding by on both sides, I had to call the chp for assistance. Chp responded 45 minutes later and assisted in towing my Honda to the shoulder. I then had my Honda towed to the closest Honda dealer. The service clerk apologized for my “problem bus failed to mention about this transmission problem being a common issue with 2003 Honda Accords. He told me that since the transmission should not have failed with only 70k miles on my vehicle that Honda would pay for 50% of the parts and 25% of the labor. Even after the “discount, my total charge for replacing my transmission was $2531. 31. My “near death experience on the san diego freeways was free of charge.
I purchased a brand new 2008 Honda Accord ex 2. 4l in may of 2008. Since then I have had numerous brake problems including early wear of the rear brake pads and warping of the rotors(starting at about 19,000 miles). My vehicle currently has 35,000 miles and under normal circumstances I do not believe that brake pads or rotors should deteriorate at such low miles. According to the 2008 Honda Accord rear brake pad settlement, I believe that all brake related problems such as rotor warp should be included as well. The rotor warp causes the steering while/car to shake while applying the brakes and causes excessive noise and instability in braking when braking on a decline (ie. Hill or mountain).
2008 Honda Accord ex with a couple issues. One issue is water setting around the door seals when it rains and there are water stains. Paint seems to scratch easily.
2008 Honda Accord, routine 25,000 maintenance at dealership. Dealer tells me the rear brakes need replacing. Dealer tells me this is common problem in 2008 Accords. Not covered by warranty. Honda is not taking responsibility.
2009 Honda Accord 4 cyl 1) car whines at 1300 rpms. Very annoying. Honda says that all of them whine and that it is normal. It sounds like a very cheap car instead of a high end Honda Accord. 2) at low sped and I make a sharp turn, the power steering pulsates. Honda garage said it has a single belt system and that they all persistent like that and it is normal.
During the cooler season, while parked the brake vacuum system lose the brake vacuum. So when you get in and press on the brake pedal it is hard since there is no more vacuum in the brake booster. This is dangerous if you are parked on a hill with vehicles around you. You could end up hitting another vehicle. I am concerned that the brake vacuum system could fail while driving making braking ineffective.
The contact owns a 2009 (na) Honda Accord. When the air conditioner is activated, the headlights move up and down intermittently. The lights also dim and flicker without warning. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that all the 2009 Accords performed in that manner. The failure mileage was 827. Updated 10/16/08. Updated 10/17/08.
This vehicle's headlights drop in intensity approximately every 20 seconds. It does not matter if you are idling or going 70 mph. This causes an unsafe loss of lighting and forward vision while utilizing the headlights during night time driving. It also appears to other drivers as if you are flashing your lights at them. I have numerous Honda vehicles and none of them do this. I have been told by the dealer that this is a normal function of the lights. I do not notice it when the bright lights are on. The decrease in light intensity is consistent when the radiator fan kicks on, drawing power.
2007 Honda Accord with very bad blind spots. Consumer states that the blind spots are so bad around the front window supports that you can't see vehicles. He also states that he has almost hit 2 people due to these blind spots.
The contact owns a 1998 Honda Accord. The contact stated that there is a recall on the 2002-2003 Accords. Once the key is removed from the ignition, the vehicle rolls away. The failure has occurred for the past ten years. The dealer could not find any failures with the vehicle. The failure mileage was 115,000.
I purchase this vehicle on April 28th 2008. The carfax report had an accident indicator by the second owner, but did not mention what type of accident in terms of moderate, minor, no damage, etc. This report was printed March 24th 2008. When I bought the vehicle the air bag light was on, and when driving; it still stayed on and I told atlanta used car dealership, who told me to take it to the Honda dealership to look at it and stated that its probably a glitch. I took the vehicle to the Honda car dealership to inspect. The Honda dealership found the srs control unit and the passenger side curtain airbag faulty. As stated on my customer invoice from gwinnett place Honda, the passenger side air bag appeared to be cut out. Carfax did not report that there is a deficient airbag. Another incident found is that the accelerator occasionally stick when trying to depress. The Honda dealership found there was a carbon build up and it needed service. The dealer replaced the right outer tie rod end, which is on the right passenger where the accident occurred. The dealer stated it was unsafe for me to drive without replacing the tie rod, which was serviced and they also performed a 4 wheel alignment and test drive before I left. My experience has led me to take the initiative to communicate with my attorney general's office, and other consumer protection agencies to report this incident. Sincerely, olutomilola aiyetiwa.
Multiple electrical difficulties vehicle has been at the dealership on 2 separate occasions due to sporadic working of the power door locks and keyless entry system. They still have not found the issue. It is worse when it is humid and/or rains. During the winter months of 2007/2008; the stereo's lcd went warped and the whole stereo had to be replaced. On memorial day 2008; the drivers side seat caught fire while I was sitting in it parked waiting on my children to come out of a theme park. My husband burned his hand trying to put out the fire; and was out of work for about 2-weeks due to the burn. The dealership and Honda refused to take responsibility for this fire; which started inside the seat due to the electronic seats and/or heated leather seats, as determined by the insurance company appraiser. The seat had to be replaced, the electronic seat components, heated leather seat components, part of the center console, and the carpeting and floor mats. We got the car back on July 3. On Monday, July 7; my husband took the car to have it inspected (at the dealership); since the state inspection was past due. They rejected the inspection stating that the electronic system is not recognizing the seat belts. They later changed their tune when I called them and are now trying to say it wasn't that it was the airbag wasn't hooked up; and they could fix it. I know they are lying, and they are trying to cover their tracks as this I am sure is just another electrical issue in my car. I am at my wits end on what to do with this car. I can't afford to trade it in, I have spent over $1000 on rental cars waiting for it to be repaired, and now this. Also, the power door locks still do not work.
Had bought the car new and after about 6 months, the car made a funny sound while starting, drove for about a mile and the check engine light turned on followed by the car jerking and getting stuck at the 3000rpm mark, did not go past 3000rpm. The car was taken to the dealer where it was purchased and repairs were made.
Accord automatic transmission 68,000 miles the date I listed was the date I took it to a body shop for repair. I believe I began noticing it at least a year before but didn't have money to do anything about it then. (on ssd) the roof, trunk, l panel r & l lens & housing, rear bumper had to be repainted/repaired. It started before that particular date. It began with white spots that started peeling and it spread like wildfire. Could not afford a new car and since the mileage was low and I need a car I decided to have it repaired. It runs good, but looked terrible!! the money I spent was an extreme burden on me. I am on a fixed low income. I read here that in '98 they changed the painting process. Now I discover many complaints witht same problem on newer years. They apparently started a faulty paint procedure and still use it and are ripping people off. I know cars, no garage, with no peeling, etc. Now less than a year later: there are white spots showing through where it was not painted, r front and rear panel!!!!! Honda should, at the very least reimburse for what I spent and fix the current problem at no charge. When I mentioned it to Honda they just said they didn't do that type of work. At the time I was not aware (but they probably were) that this is a widespread known problem!! anyway, Honda should be sued! . I've already had people thank me for telling them about this saying they won't buy a Honda!!.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Accord. While driving 25 mph, the doors did not automatically lock. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure and no repairs were made. The current and failure mileages were 710. Updated 01/02/08. The consumer believed that automatic door locking once the vehicle is placed in drive, should be a feature that comes standard on all vehicles. Updated 12/12/07.
Due to the design flaw in the non-existence front lower grill of 2007 Honda Accord, small pebbles or road debris hits the air condition condenser causing leakage of freon. Therefore causing failure of the air conditioning system.
An unknown road debris (small pebble) struck the front of the vehicle (regular event), causing ac unit to fail. The dealer found that a pebble punctured a hole in ac condenser. This is brand new car. Repair cost $700 and is not covered by warranty. In fact, ac condenser is exposed to incoming flow and is not protected. Apparently the condenser is also very fragile. Honda said that it is normal. I think it is not. This is a design flaw that should be addressed, at least by providing free repair of this undue damage.
I was smelling the rotten egg smell that many other claimed to smell. I had the catalytic converter changed but the smell comes back from time to time. The seat slide forward and then backward when applying brake.
2006 Honda Accord ex l 4dr sedan. Air conditioner (a/c) blows warm air. Dealer said a/c condensor needed to be replaced which was not covered under warranty. Vehiclewas 8 months old and has 11000 miles. Honda custemer service not helpful.
I have a Honda 2005 Accord, just took it in to the dealer earlier this morning, and the service advisor looked at the condenser right away and shown me the "dent", probably from a pebble. And that he said it is a very common on the Honda Accord. I definitely believe that this a design flaw if there are so many incidents on this. The warranty does not cover road debris. . They are going to give me a call and give me a price estimate for the repair.
Honda dealer identified that cause of air conditioner failure to be a stone striking the condenser causing fluid leak. Dealer conveyed that this is not covered by warranty. Condenser should be better protected or stronger to prevent road damage.
The air conditioning on my 2005 Honda Accord hybrid failed while on a new year holiday visit to arizona. When I took it to my local dealer for repair under warranty, they told me that it is due to damage from road debris making a hole in the condenser, and that it would cost me $875 to repair. This would seem to be a design fault, putting something so apparently fragile at the front of a car, behind an opening 28 1/2 inches by 5 with only one horizontal bar under 1/4 inch wide and 3 verticals less than 1/8 inch wide. For a few dollars, they could protect it with a mesh grill and save what internet research seems to show happening to more than a few people on several Honda models.
Vehicle purchased 8/1/2006, passed safety inspection by Honda dealer. Beginning on 9/1/2006 air conditioner returned no cold air. Honda dealer claims a rock impact caused a hole in the air conditioning condenser, leading to a leaking of refrigerant and loss of cooling function. I believe this is a design flaw, as the problem is well-documented by many consumers. Honda refused to cover the repair under warranty, instead charging the consumer $750.
I have a 2001 white Honda Accord. I purchased the car used in July 2004 and it was purchased from a Honda dealership. It was a "Honda certified used car," and I purchased the additional warranty for it. Over the past year, I have noticed the paint is starting to stain. I have kept the car waxed, at least 1 time a year since I got it, but even this doesn't help. The paint is starting to bubble up and flake off. . . Like blisters bursting open. There are several spots like this on the car. Also, every time I run through something on the road, the white paint stains. It will not come out during a hand washing or waxing. I took it to Honda, and they would not help. I took it to a local shop that is very reputable in the area and was told there is no clear coat left on the car, and it appears to have been a problem when the original paint was applied.
I brought this car and the dealership lied to me. They told me that I would be making certain payments which at the end were not the payments that I ended up making. I went to the dealership and tried to talk to somebody about my problems but nobody would pay attention to me. Nobody would do anything to help me with my problem . The dealership is a fraud. I want to cancel the problem of this car.
I have a 2003 Honda Accord. Recently the back light on the radio went out. The radio still works, but the display does not. My car is out of warranty, so it is not covered. When I called the Honda dealership, they quoted me $600 to repair it because the entire unit must be fixed. After doing an internet search on the topic, I found that my 2003 Accord is not the only one with this problem.
Ac condenser prone to damage. With the placement of the condenser, it is easily damaged by flying objects hitting it during the drive. I went to the dealer to drop off my car earlier today to check on the ac problem and the first thing the service advisor did was look at the condenser and show me the many dents and marks. He said likely, it was hit by a little pebble while driving on the freeway and that it is a very common for the condenser to be damaged small flying objects. I only have had the car for 1. 5 years. I did a quick check online and someone else also had the same problem and she only had the car for less than 3 months.
On 2003 Honda Accord le v6 w/o navigation system. Radio/cd/heating/ac control panel is dark, cannot read controls. Not knowing the status of defroster can lead to fogged windshield.
My 2005 Honda Accord ex has three features that compromise my safety: 1. The right-hand corner of the sun visor, when in its fullest position (not at an angle), obscures nearly half of the rearview mirror. This has caused a number of "near accident" events. 2. The Honda is designed to downshift when going downhill. Not only does this diminish gas efficiency, but can cause skids in icy weather. 3. The brakes are extremely sensitive. I have spoken to two area Honda service centers and a service representative at Honda headquarter. The area managers say that "they're all like that; there's nothing we can do," and the Honda headquarters rep says the same. She even went so far as to recommend I get the lower half of my windshield tinted to prevent sun glare! what about night driving? I can't believe that solutions to this problem cannot be found. Can you help in any way?.
Purchased a pr-owned vehicle from power Toyota cerritos and the vehicle has major problems after 6 months of ownership.
I was driving down the road and noticed that the air conditioner was not cooling. I took the automobile to the dealership to be checked and was told that rocks had hit the condenser and damaged. Supposedly, it was replaced but less than 7 months later the same thing occurred (no cooling) and rocks had again damaged the condenser. Fall was coming up, so the a/c was not used again until April '06. I feel the car is equipped with a design defect that is costly and potentially harmful. The lower front grill bumper is designed in a such a way that any road debris can enter and damage a fully exposed and unprotected a/c condenser. The design of the grill and condenser material leaves it vulnerable to be easily damaged by small gravel. There is no screen or deflector in place for the condenser to prohibit any road debris from damaging the condenser: therefore, the clearing and defogging of the inside window is difficult without the dehumidifier effect. An investigation should be conducted on the vulnerability of damage to the a/c condenser system. Honda should be held responsible for repairing the problem, especially if this part is inferior and/or defective.
Ac condenser failure - allegedly punctured by road debris. My wife was behind a truck carrying gravel traveling on an interstate highway. Gravel may have spilled out and entered front of car, puncturing condenser unit. Extended warranty will not cover - they claim issue was caused by road debris. I claim that if the car was properly designed, a simple pebble could not cause $500 worth of damage.
I purchased a new 1999 Honda Accord lx in the summer of '99. Several months after purchase, my husband and I noticed that the black paint was starting to chip and flake. I took the car back to the dealership from where I purchased the vehicle (performance Honda, fairfield, OH) to inquire about the situation. The service supervisor offered many excuses such as that I must have driven through a street painting project, encountered acid rain, used a power washer too often, or didn't keep the vehicle clean. My husband and I take very good care of our vehicles with the intent of keeping them for many years. This vehicle was waxed within the first month of purchase and had been washed and maintained on a regular basis. We continued to see more paint specs missing in the black paint. At each service visit, I complained about the situation. The service manager even came to our house and to my place of employment to inspect the vehicle. All of the excuses pointed to our inadequate care of the vehicle. On my last visit, they asked if I would like a quote on a new paint job from their body shop. I have seen other complaints on Honda web sites and I wonder if there was ever anything done to resolve the situation with this batch of bad paint. Honda seems unwilling to rectify the situation or offer any compensation for the paint troubles.
My car (1996, Honda Accord ex) was parked in my driveway after the last time it was driven prior to the incident. The next we noticed was the car was rolled off the driveway (in reverse) and had climbed the curb (both rear and front wheels) and ended up on the lawn of the house across the street from our house. Additionally the cars gear was not in ‘park’ (my son who drove the car back to our driveway from the lawn failed to notice in his haste and excitement what the gear was in). Additionally now the car’s gear can be switched without the foot on the brake. Also, the ignition key can be turned and the car started without the foot on the brake. Fortunately nobody was hurt in the incident.
Follow-up to previous complaint. Had catylitic converter replaced after check engine light problems, light came back on after only 30 miles with different error code. I wonder how long Honda will let this problem go with out recognizing there is a obd computer problem! if this is not fixed soon I will never buy another Honda.
The contact stated after purchasing the vehicle he began to notice cracks in the steering wheel above the air bags. He contacted Honda and spoke with a representative. The representative had someone else to call him back. The representative told him that this problem was his fault because of the way he was pressing the horn. Both times the airbag were replaced by the dealership under warranty. He went to a body shop and saw two other vehicles with the same problem ,and they told him if the air bag deployed then it could cause injury to him. Updated 12/27/05.
Faulty sealant on black Accord. Premature degradation. Began in small area on roof. Not too bad at first. Over past winter, sealant breaking down in about 15 places. Car has been garaged and not subject to automatic car wash (unless that is what local Honda dealer uses). Considerable devaluation of vehicle advertised as holding its value.
On July 6th, 2004, I took possession of our new 2004 Honda Accord sedan with 132 miles on the odometer. I scheduled to have Honda accessories installed by the Honda dealership on July 15th-16th, and picked up my vehicle on July 17th. Upon picking up the vehicle (369 miles on odometer) the driver's side seatbelt would not retract. The seatbelt was completely pulled out and still would not retract. It took the dealership several hours, but they managed to replace the driver's side seatbelt which had failed. The replacement unit retracts very slowly and has to be manually maneuvered into place. Will need to schedule another appointment to have it looked at again. In addition to this major safety incident, the outside temperature gauge has malfunctioned and no longer reads the correct temperature.
Complaint regaring window tinting.
Told by dealer to ignore 'maintenance required' light in 2003 Honda Accord.
Possible safety hazard with 2004 Honda Accord. (nar) while driving on the freeway at night with the cruise control activated, as the consumer approached the off ramp, he attempted to deactivate the cruise control by pressing what the consumer thought was the cancel button on the steering wheel but was unable to view the three button that was in conjunction with the cruise control and accidentally pressed the (res/accel) button and immediately began to speed up. The consumer felt that Honda should add illumination to the three buttons on the steering wheel that activate and deactivate the cruise control.
I have Honda Accord lx model 1999. I had been experiencing intermittent problem of my car stalling while decelerating. This problem is since last 12-18 months. I have shown this to car dealers multiple times but nothing significant was told to me. Most of the time I am unable to duplicate the problem when at service center but it happens intermittently. Sometimes even on the freeway it stalls during decelerating. Please consider if there is anything that can be done to fix this problem.
Replacement of left and right hub and bearing on the rear of the car. Of all the cars I owned and the cars that freinds and family have this is the first time that anyboby has heard of replacing these parts. All of my cars have over 180,000 miles on them.
I own a 2004 Honda Accord ex v6 sedan. I have approximately 9000 miles on the car. Since I have had the car it intermittently will not start. I have taken it to the dealer three times for this problem and it still is not fixed.
Oil from my 1996 Honda Accord poured out of the front balancer seal while warming up in my driveway. Luckily I noticed it before I had engine trouble. I had it towed to my mechanic's shop and had it repaired for about $500. My mechanic said that the balancer seal had worked itself out and sitting on the crankshaft. I have only 68900 miles on it.
The contact owns a 1998 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the paint is eroding from her vehicle. She called the dealer (american Honda) and sent pictures, but they stated that the failure was due to the weather and acid rain. Her insurance stated that nothing could be done because of the vehicle's age. The claim adjuster stated that the vehicle's paint did not have enough clear coat finish. The engine size is not available. The current mileage is 176,000 and failure mileage was 100,000.
Within the first year of owning my Honda Accord (black pearl) the paint pitted all over, not just on the hood. Honda north in MA as well as the CA office claimed it was road rash --- it was all over the car - areas that would be hard-pressed to get any stone/road debris. They refused to remedy the problem also, I just now learned that the power train has been recalled. I did not receive any notice whatsoever.
Honda 2003 Accord is equipped with a "design defect" of costly and potentially harmful, from a safety standpoint, defect. The lower "grill" on the front bumper is designed in such a way that any road debris smaller than a 16" x 8" concrete block can enter and damage a fully-exposed and unprotected ac condenser. It is clearly unprotected from the harsh outside elements. The ac is an integral part of the safety of this automobile in that to clear the windshield from any moisture on the inner surface, the ac must be acting in proper fashion. If a car's inside glasses "fog-up" with moisture , the only solution is to turn on the moisture wringing ac unit, regardless of the temp of the air, the dehumidifier effect of the ac conditioned air is an absolute necessity. The current design of the grill/condenser leaves it vulnerable to be easily damaged by a bit of gravel as small as a bb pellet. There is not any screen or deflector in place forward of the condenser to prohibit any errant road missiles from damaging the condenser thereby creating the safety hazard of a fogged windshield and more, a simple screen or deflector could and should be installed to protect the safety feature of this car.
This is my third Honda and after purchasing my 2003 Accord coupe ex manual, I don't know if I will ever purchase another Honda!! I bought it because my previous cars had no major problems, they only went to the mechanic for their suggested maintenance and oil and tire changes. With my new Accord, I have only experienced problems. It began with a rattling in the rear speakers, then the side speakers. Which the dealer tried to fix to no success. Then the trim on the windows was bubbling, which they were able to replace. Soon after I began noticing my breaks shudder and went to the dealer to be told that "well MA'am, the problem has to get worse before we can see what's going on"! great I have to break down on the side of the road before they can fix it. Lets not forget the recall on the intake air breather pipe. Then today, and this has sent me over the top, my car overheated. The temperature gauge was on the red-line for hot! I pulled over, opened the hood and noticed green fluid all over the engine. Called the dealer and they said they would have to tow it and take a look. I have owned the car since April (5 months) and been to the dealer 5 times. After reading the other complaints I am afraid of what might happen with the shuddering of the brakes. . . Will they stop working not allowing me to stop and be the cause of a potentially fatal accident? I hope not!! Honda needs to do something about these problems ASAP!!.
On one of my visit to the dealer to complaint about my the brakes on my car I also complained about the fact that my car makes noise when I am driving on surface that should not make my car sound like their doors are not put on correctly. I thought because it was new it was just a new car squeak but when I drive with the radio off I can hear this noise and I can just imagine what it will sound like when the car is not so new. When I drive in any other vehicle I listen for this sound and I don't hear this noise but as usual the dealer cannot find it. I will be taking in my car for the same brake problems again. On 9/12/203. This will be the fourth time. The first time was on Nov/6/2002,and they resurface the rotors. The second time was on Feb/1/2003, they replace both front disc. The third time may/01/2003, they replace brake pads. The pads are very high and the rotors are thick. There is no sign of warp or roughness that I can feel whem I inspect the brakes and I am some what familiar with brakes.
Yes this is a followup to complaint #10080452. If you have had similar problems please email @ onnipotente1@hotmail. Com and let me know what was done in your case. Thanks.
I tried contacting Honda to see whether it is normal to get electric shocks from the car. Every time I close my door to my car I get shock. I even seen electric wave. However, Honda indicated that it must be the way I am walking, but everyone who comes in and out of my car gets shock and its only happens in the dry winter time. When I step on my pedal the car stalls which causes me to step on the pedal harder. My engine just turns off while I step on the brakes. I have spoken to a mechanic who indicates that is normal for Honda Accord 2002. I contacted service, but they indicated that it is my responsibility and it is not the manufactures problem. I just wanted to report this information.
When you step on the gas to accelerate from a stop, the car bogs down, goes very slowly - like it is working very hard to accelerate. The check engine light comes on and the square around the d4 gear flashes. The car eventually gets up to speed and will continue without a problem until you stop again. This is an intermittent problem. I have brought it to the dealer at least 7 times for this. I have never been charged for the repairs but I would like to have the problem resolved. I am afraid I am going to get hit by another car if I pull ouy and suddenly have power.
Alternator died, with only warning was abs light on, could not even make it to the shop 10 miles away. Car died completely. I was told that Honda should have recalled these alternators for the 1999 and 1998 models.
In the month of February I bought a Honda Accord, everything was fine until the end of may when I noticed a clicking noise coming from the front of the car every time the car stops, I took it to the Honda dealer where I bought it and after a few hours, I was told that the clicking of the car is characteristic of this car, I told them that it didn't have it when I bought, then I was given a print out where Honda talks about the "clicking or ticking at idle" for this type of car, I have asked other person with the same type of car and he doesn't have this noise, I have taken it to another dealer under Honda's customer service request and the dealer said that all cars have that noise, I know for a fact that none of my previous cars had that noise. Since this is not consider a defect or a problem by Honda, they offered me a free oil change as a "good will". This car is costing me over $27,000, Honda can call this noise anyway they want, but I did not buy a car to have some noise after only 4 months of having the car, they also admit is a problem in the bulletin when they say "characteristic problem", the honest thing from Honda since they knew this since December 2002 and I bought the car in February 2003, should have been to inform me about the possibility of having this noise in the car, and I would have made the decision of not buying the car, I have been to two dealers, called Honda customer service 3 times and I have only been offered a free oil change, I hope this agency can help me to deal with Honda, I know this may not be a safety issue but I don't think Honda should get away with hiding information from potential customers and then when they get called just act like there is no problem. Thanks, ml I only see report defective equipment that was included with the vehicle at time of purchase but this noise wasn't there when I purchase the car.
I have had my 03 Accord for 5 months now and have had it to the dealers more then 10 times for various problems. The first problem I had was, the car was hesitating when I would start the engine. I would have to hold the key for more then 5 seconds. I brought my car in to the dealer and they said they ran tests and could not find anything wrong. Eventually they told me it was normal because if I had the air cond. Or heat on it would take a few seconds for it to start up. I also was having a bad rotten egg smell. Once again they said nothing was wrong and that it was the gas that I was getting, somethin about the water deposits in it. But I've tried different gas stations like they said and it still smells. I had my car in for creaking sounds in my dash board, and they actually found some pilliars loose and fixed that problem. The molding on my passenger and driver side windows was crinkling from the heat and the sun so those had to be replaced. A recent problem I have now is there is a leak in my power steering. I told my dealer I was contacting Honda and they said to deal w/ it thru my dealer and not get them involved, but this is ridiculous that I am having all these problems w/ a brand new car!!.
This is my mothers car (1998 Honda Accord ex-vl) which was totaled in an accident due to a sudden unintended acceleration. My wife was the first owner of the vehicle and my mother has had the car for about 2 years. She had stopped, put the car into park, got out to open a parking lot gate, got back in, stepped on the brake, and shifted the car into gear. It immediately went into a high rev and accelerated uncontrollably resulting in the car smashing into a wall about 60' away. Luckily the air bags worked and neither her or my step father were seriously hurt. Her foot was definitely on the brake pedal as there is a lockout mechanism that prevents the car from being taken out of park if the brake pedal is not pushed. This may or may not be related, but she was having difficulty getting the handle to move. The problem with it not moving had occurred previously, usually on a slight incline, but the Honda dealer looked at it and told her nothing was wrong. My mother is a retired bus driver with a perfect driving record, no accidents, and only uses one foot to control the vehicle.
Discount tire company, 20225 north scottsdale rd, scottsdale, az 85255 as an independent tire distributor and dealer failures to comply with title 49, volume 5, part 574, sec of the code of federal regulations, by not providing tire purchasers (consumers) the required tire registration form. This incident happen on the rainy morning of Feb 2003 at the discount tire store at 407 west bell road, phoenix, az 85023. I inquired at two other discount tire company stores and they denied having any tire registration forms for consumers, so it appears this is standard to this company. Thousand of consumers have been wronged by this company's failure to comply with 49cfr574. 8. For questions or comments please contact me.
Paint on hood is chipping off and has bubble in center of hood close to windshield. Paint is also chipping off in other areas.
Throttle wire broke disconnecting the accelerator petal from the engine while driving on the highway. I was lucky that I was in the right lane and could get onto the shoulder.
Only three days after having purchased a new 2003 Accord, I noticed that the console was overheating. When I put my fingers under the console, it was so hot that it could blister skin. There was also a horrible intermittent burning smell. After the car makes this terrible burning smell, I get a headache. Upon my second visit, the dealership acknowledged the problem and replaced the console. On the way home, the new console overheated again. Also, the horrible intermittent burning smell is still present. Honda America has refused to replace my vehicle or give me a refund. The sales manager at the dealership, hendrick\\'s Honda cars of hickory, has given me misinformation about my state\\'s lemon law by telling me they are entitled to 10 repair attempts when the lemon law says they are only entitled to 4. The dealership now says that they are trying to reduplicate the problem. Further, even though three people at the dealership, including a mechanic, have witnessed the overheating and burning smell, the \\master mechanic\\ has told me that if something was burning or overheating that I would have equipment failure. This is not true and any good mechanic should know this. It appears to me that they are trying to deny that the problem still exists. The company claims that no one else has reported this problem. Your web page hit home with me because Honda certainly has trouble admitting that their cars have problems. I want to let everyone know that buying a Honda is a bad idea!.
The paint on my 2001 Honda Accord is peeling and the clear coat is lifting, front to back, I have noticed this on many Honda's of years around the same age, dark colors, the paint and body shops said that there must be a problem with the paint and procedures in painting the car , this is the only Honda out of the 9 other Honda's, I've owned with a paint problem, this car only has 60000 miles on it, other Honda's that I have had as much as 250,000, and the paint looked great (1990 Accord) the dealer ship (groppetti Honda claims they never heard of this problem, but I continue to see Hondas with this same paint problems, this looks like the same type of problem general motors had back years ago and they corrected the paint with a recall, after many complaints, I know there are many complaints out there.
I purchased a 98 Honda Accord in October of 2001. It has been in the shop approximately eight times since it was purchased for numerous problems. The brakes had to be replaced about four months after buying the car. The paint has faded on the roof and is now fading on the trunk lid. The key has gotten stuck in the ignition twice and would not come out until the next day. The gas pedal has gotten stuck after cranking the car and pedal had to be "punched" to get it to accelerate. The cd player has been replaced. The doors would not lock using keyless entry or manually and the door accuator was replaced. The keyless entry has also been replaced. These are some of the things that are going on. Currently, the back window is vibrating and it is unclear whether it is loose or not. I do feel this is a lemon.
They are selling me a lemon and fool me around with excuse. The engine light have been on six time during this two year. The first three time the engine light on, I did not have duplicatin code. Sum up the six time report, I have two times code 0700 and two times code 1705. I called Honda because they authorized this dealer to sell thie car, however, they told me since the dealer do the modification on the car (add the auto starter in the car), they don't responsible on any problem that related to autostarter, even they authorized tham to sell their car. Then I talk to the assistant manager, he is very sacratic, he ask me the detail how I use the autostarter, my answer was perfect, seem to be nothing wrong. As well as he told me the last engine light on was a year ago, I told me I have not use the autostarter for a year, because I decided to leave my baby with my mother-in-law, but I use the autostarter recently. Then he blame me, perhap it could be as simple as losing the gas cap, or you use pc or cellphone in the car trigger the engine light. Then I ask him what is the list of action I cannot do in the car, he told me he has the list, but he cannot find it. I ask the service rep can I have the summary to what you did for the past six time fixing, service rep told me that summary will not reflect the detail of what happen, only the date and your name. Here is the list of problems my car has: check engine light on 6th time, Dec 2002, code 700 customer statres cd changer is inop, April 2002 balancing 2 tires on Dec 2001, miscommuncate check engine light on 5th time, Nov 2001, malfunction a/t sensor check engine light on 4th time, sept 2001, code 1705 repaired rear bumper assembly, Nov 2001 check engine light on 3rd time, June 2001, code 0700, 1705 auto start doesn't work check engine light on 2nd time, March 2001, code 900 check engine light on 1st time, Jan 2001, code 1456.
1. Windshield area in front of driver creaks in cold, dry weather. Creak occurs on rough pavement and turns. 2. All side windows rattle on rough pavement. 3. Excessive wind noise on front side windows when car is moving at 40mph or above.
I have had my 2003 Accord ex in the dealer's shop well over 15 times for various reasons. The front windshield rattles and has been looked at 5 times and cannot be rectified. The cd player would not load cd's properly and have had the stereo replaced. Now the cover to the stereo will not stay in place. The stereo has been looked at 4 times and has to go back in a 5th time to have the cover replaced again. The brakes have been looked at 5 times, since the first week we bought the car. The first 3 times they could not find anything wrong. The 4th time, they had to resurface the rotors because they were warped. At this visit, there was only 9,000 miles on the car. The 5th time we took the car in, it had 12,000 miles and the rotors needed to be resurfaced again. Now the brakes are grinding and squealling again. This is now the 6th time we have had a problem with the brakes. The seal around the door gave way at around 5,000 miles. The door seal seems to be very thin and does not hold up very well. We purchased an after factory anti-theft device. My wife's fob failed to deactivate the device. I realize that this is an after factory installed device, but the Honda dealer should back what they sell.
Faulty speedometer/odometer when purchased new 2003 Honda Accord v6. American Honda would not help saying that since the pdi was done the part failed at the dealer site. The dealer, autopark Honda in cary, nc would not replace the car after my delivery because it doesn't fall under lemon law, even though I pointed the problem out to them within 18 hours of driving car home.
All of the above dates and mileage are approximate. I have the information on paper at home. I have also had the hardest time with Honda financial services with them calling me and saying that I never paid my monthly bill (last fall), which I did, and then finally they found the check and said "OH, our mistake, it has been here the whole time. " and then now, I have them saying that I was in default of my lease because they never had information for my insurance, which my insurance was supposed to send them that information. I checked back with them a week later (today) and they said that they were going to impound my car because my insurance company never got back with them. Called my insurance company, and it took 5 mins. To have someone fax over proof of insurance. That was all - was it that difficult??? this car had to have the back brakes replaced after 25000 miles (about a month ago - it was making this awful noise, like rattling chains underneath) - that should not have happened. The back window tinting lifted up after 1 year, the tire blew out on the freeway 1 month after getting it (leased the car Aug 2001). The service engine light has come on twice, for no apparent reason. And the srs light was on 2 different times. Had it turned off the 1st time. Then 1 week later it was back on, brought back to my dealership and they said it was something wrong with the computer system, but they could not give me a good enough explanation. When I first was looking for a car at the dealership, this car was not on the lot where all the other cars for sale were, it was in the back, by the service department. Asked the sales rep if the car was in okay condition and he said it was, and there was nothing wrong with it because it only had 10 miles on it - I should have known then. This car is a pain in the behind and it is just a hassle for everything that keeps happening with it.

Noticed lurching and trasnmission slipping. The car was having difficulty changing gears. Next day I had car checked out was advised that transmission fluid was black( burnt) and the motor mount was also weak. The following day I took the car to ed voyles Honda for my 45,000 mile/3 yr service. I was then advised by service advisor, jim vartiak, that large metal pieces came out when the trasnmission fluid was being drianed and was a sign of deterioration of the trasnmission. After my service on 10-28-02 I went to work. On my commute back, I heard a loud noise and then the check engine light came on while I was on the expressway. The vehicle was not accelerating well, the gears were not shifting. When I got to my destination I noticed that I was parked . When I put the car in reverse the engine had to be reved up to make the slightest move. It took several minutes to move three feet. The next morning, 10-30-02, the car was driving about 40 mph then sudddenly dropped to 10 mph during a busy hour approx. 7:30 am. At times the Honda Accord would not even move at all and then it would suddenly jot out. I made it home, but the car is completely immoble the transmission is gone. The worst part is there was no help offered for a resolution. I have made calls and also written to America Honda motor CO. , inc, but I have not yet recieved any response from my. Correspondence. Dt.
Engine check light came on for the second time within a year. The first time I was told that the computer was too sensitive and they had to order a new computer - wait was approx 3-4 months. This happened at 3600 miles and was covered under warranty. Less than a year later the engine check light came on, and the dealer told me it was oxygen sensor and it had to be replaced. The emission control system is unreliable for this to happen within 53k miles.
Problems began when I took my 1998 Accord ex in to have the 30,000 mile service. I was told that the brake pads needed to be replaced. I had them replaced and went in for another major service check a year later and was told the car needed new brake pads again, that's only 18,000 miles later. The Honda dealership mechanic told me replacing the pads every 20,000 miles is not uncommon for these cars. I, then, took the car to a non-Honda repair shop who replaced the pads and guaranteed them for 48,000 miles. When I took the car in for the second major service check my car horn was working. After leaving Honda's service shop the horn has not worked properly again. When I turn the engine on the horn turns off. As long as the engine's off the horn works without a problem. I took it back to Honda who told me that the problem is probably related to a cable in the steering column and would cost me over $200 to repair. They also told me that it could be the key switch and there has been a recall on the switch but my car was not included. Again they estimate $200 to repair. This car has not had excessive wear, it is a 1998 and has less than 48,000 miles on it today. I have no confidence in what they are telling me and am very displeased with my Honda and the service that I am getting.
The engine completely blew out one day. I was on the way to work and there was an explosion under my hood. Honda put in a re-built engine and I have had nothing but problems since then. A few months later. . . The paint gradually started to fade away on the roof. It has only gotten worse and will get much worse. It is a 1998 Honda!! this stuff shouldn't be happening!.
I am very disappointed with my very first new car purchase. I thought Honda was supposed to be a number one car for safety and was supposed to be long lasting. I have had mine in the shop 6-7 times in the last 6 -7 months and it is due to go into the shop again because they still have not fixed the window buttons correctly. I have had the car not start 3 times and have brought it into the dealer to have them tell me that nothing is wrong. I have been without a car for several days while they have it hooked up to some computer and have had no rental cars available to me. I am very frustrated and very affraid to go out to my car and have it not start on a day that I really need it. I want these pronblems fixed and am bringing it to another dealer to see if they can help me with it. Dt.
While driving and in motion, the car suddenly and unexpectedly shuts off. It happens after shifting out of gear when coming to a stop. For example, Ill be in 3rd gear (or any gear for that matter) and I have to stop and therefore I shift out of gear and the vehicle shuts off. Due to the fact that it shuts off unexpectedly, I feel that this problem is very dangerous. One time, the vehicle turned off while making a left turn almost causing an accident due to the car turning off. This problem has happened approximately 4-6 times. It started early in 2002 and the problem continues. In 2003 the problem has occurred about 4 times. I have taken the vehicle to the maroone Honda dealer (because I have an extended warranty with them) to have it checked out, the technicians say they cant figure it out and that they do not know what is causing the problem. Please advise if any other owners have reported similar problems and/or if a remedy is known. Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
At 65 mph oil light came on shortly after engine stalled. Dealer determined that an oil seal blew.
Engine check light appears on dashboard. Dealership is aware of problem.
Transmission had to be replaced due to engine light continuously coming on, and staying on. Contacted dealer ,and the dealer replaced transmission, but problem still occurs.
Just prior to a cellular phone ringing, the car makes clicking and buzzing noises which seems to be coming from the driver's side dash in the area of the fuse box. Once the cell phone is answered, the clicking and buzzing noises stop.
While traveling on highway and without prior warning engine check light appeared on dashboard, engine check light is still on.
While attempting to accelerate from a stopped position floor mat stuck under accelerator pedal and caused vehicle to crash into a stopped car traveling approximately 5 mph. Please provide any additional information / documentation. Note: 2 individuals in other vehicle are claiming unknown injuries.
Driving down street and oil light came on. . Proceeded to store and put oil in car, drove approximately 10 miles and oil light came on again. Then I determined that all the oil had drained out. Oil is pouring out of my car faster than I can put it in. Searching on the internet I've found that other Honda Accord owners of the 1996 model had the same problems. I even noticed that one had a recall for the damaged part. I have no recall and have lived in the same location. . Just 5 minutes from the Honda dealer where the car was purchased. My car is soaked in oil from the front to the back. . Tires included. I'm surprised it didn't catch fire. People need to be aware of these defects and shouldn't have to pay.
Accelerator pedal sticks when applied. Dealer contacted. Ts.
Engine check light came on, dealer replaced sensor.
Starting in sept. Of 2001 my vehicle would not change from 3rd to 4th gear. The engine light came on, took it to a local mechanic. After checking it with his computer he found no problem, reset the check engine light. He researched the vehicle and told me that Honda was having problems with transmissions when it was humid!?!?! so I thought that I would see if it continued to do this when it cooled off. It has and it has gotten to the point that every morning it will not change gears until I have driven approximately 1/2 mile, stop and go again. Even then sometimes it doesn't change.
Engine check light stays on after having recall done for egr valve. Consumer has taken vehicle into repair shop, and diagnostic reading showed no problem. Consumer has been advised to please attach a copy of recall information with complaint form.
Engine check light continues to come on at more frequency than it should (7 times ) for emisssion failure.
Front balancer shaft seal blow ,oil gushed out of engine in less then 10 mins est. Was told by dealer that happens to a lot of this model that the seal is defective but Honda does'nt have a full recall, will only fix when seal blows which causes permanent engine damage if vechicle is running. After I got my car back the engine light stays on and the dealer says I have to pay to find out why, should'nt Honda of America pay since the light never came on before this problem and start immediatly after they repaired the bad seals. I've done research on your site and others and this seems to be a comman problem in cold regions in the united states it seems the seal is most definetly defective but Honda wont repair until the problem happens. While driving about 50 mph oil light came on, engine started losing power. Consumer pulled to side where engine check light came on. Vehicle had to be towed. Then, technician told consumer about a recall concerning blowen engine.
My husband could of been killed or seriously hurt from this part coming off of his vehicle as he was going too work on the interstate. This has happened before to Accords years 96&97 and I'm very upset about this incident. Mrs. Sutton h.

While stopped at a traffice light, the oil pressure light started flashing. I immediately pulled into the nearest business I thought would have a mechanic, which was a quick oil change type place. Oil was pouring from my engine. Seals and belts had to be replaced, including the timing belt so the repair was over $500. However, my car was still leaking oil (which it had never done before). Soon after I received Honda's balancer shaft seal recall info in the mail. The problem described seemed to be precisely what happened to me. I took my car to an authorized Honda dealer to have the repair inspected and to have the oil leak checked out. I left with another $250 bill and the mechanic felt that my problem had not been the balancer shaft seal because the mechanic at the quick change place incorrectly listed a part replaced as an oil seal on the invoice. The mechanic who did the original repair told me that it was definitely the bal shaft seal that he had replaced and offered to consult with the Honda tech. Honda tech was unresponsive and uninterested in hearing from the mechanic. After I sent in all the documentation and request for reimbursement I recently received more info from Honda, which instructed me to again have my repair inspected by a Honda dealer. Again I left with a $450 bill in another attempt to fix the persistent oil leak. I have submitted all the info and invoices to Honda and am waiting on reimbursement.
1st time dealer stated bad gas for car jerking when trying to accelerate and engine check light was on - fixed problem. 2nd time (next day) car repeated same problem - another dealer stated bad gas and loose wire - fixed problem 3rd time same dealer stated needed new top dead center sensor. Sensor had malfunctioned. I know too many people who had the same problem and continue to even after getting fixed repeatedly. I am scared to drive my new car - not even a year old.
Engine check light went on twice. Took vehicle to dealer, and they said fuel filler: cap was not on properly. Then, it was electrical system causing engine light to come on. A week later, srs light came on, indicating something wrong with airbag and seatbelts.
While driving-oil indicator light flashing. Indication of loss of all oil. Able to make it to dealership where they had no knowledge of why this would happen. Discovered that balance shaft seal & cam shaft had popped out. Resulting in loss of all oil in engine> this is front balance shaft. All belts and fluids needed to be replaced at a cost of $483. 22. Which has not been paid. Questioned the service manager regarding this as a factory problem. Told no. Even though service bulletins have been issued regarding this problem for the past 5 years. A clip in needed to be placed on these shaft seals to prevent the problem from continuing to occurr again. Unfortunately when reviewing the work order there is no indication that the clip was applied. Contacted manufacturer said they knew a problem exists but would not accept responsibility for cost and possible permanent damage to engine vehicle. They refused to supply me with the complete bulletin regarding the problem. One service mgr at anotherdealership said this problem is been going on for years and Honda will not acknowledge factory defect.
Re-submit//state reported incorrectly. While driving oil light indicator came on/lost all oil in engine. No prior warning. Able to make it to dealer told that balance shaft seal popped out and also cam shaft seal popped out at same time. Required to replace both seals and all fluids/all belts replaced -cost - $483. 22. Dealer claimed no knowledge of prior notification from manufacturer of problem or offer to contact manufacturer for payment and cost responsibility. Able to obtain information from this site that service bulletins issued on both 1995/1996 Honda Accords with this problem. Dislodged seal on the front balancer shaft. Dated 10/96. Bill not paid. Contacted manufacturer at first acknowledged defect and remedy but refuses to confirm in writing. Clip is needed to be installed on vehicle which will enable problem from occurring again. Clips are being installed now as part of maintenance when belts are changed at 90,000 and above but manufactuer will not install clips on cars without customer taking financial responsibility. One dealer whom I contacted indicated that I should have been aware of the problem and brought car in before warranty expired. This problem exists on both 1995 and 1996 Accords but the manufacturer refuses to supply me with complete service bulletin and has told me that they are unaware of such a bulletin in existence. I hope that this information in able to be posted in it's entirety so that others who have been or will experience this problem know of the condition and the manfacturer's position. I.
While driving oil indicator light came on -lost all oil in engine. Balance shaft seal popped out along with cam shaft seal resulted in loss of all oil no prior warning. Cost 483. 22 repaired at dealership. All belts required to be changed. Manufacturer refuses to accept resp for cost. Dealership did not inform of service bulliten notification dtd 10/96. Clip needed to be installed to avoid re-ocurrance. Nhtsa should be made aware that these clips are being installed on cars when belts are changed for masintenance at 90,000. But what of the owners where their engines are destroyed because Honda refuses to make the necessary repair before problem occurrs. They refuse to supply me with complete copy of service bulletin. I have not paid the bill and will not because this is a defective part and manufacturer has been aware of this even on 1995 models. I hope that you consider posting this entire message for other owners.
In July 1998, I purchased a 1998 Honda Accord v6 ex. In February 2000 the first problem with the engine check and egr defect occurred. The problem was resolved with the replacement of the intake manifold and repositioning of the pcv valve and hose in Accordance with Honda recall instructions and resetting the "check engine" light indicator at no cost to me. Service occurred at dealer. In April 2000, the second problem with the egr valve as manifested by the "check engine" light occurred. The problem was resolved by replacement of the pcv hose in Accordance with Honda recall instructions and resetting the "check engine" light indicator at no cost to me. Service occurred at dealer. In October 2000, the third occurrence of the egr valve failure occurred. This problem was resolved by cleaning the egr port and valve. This was performed at a cost of $66 plus tax. Service occurred at dealer. In January 2001, a related occurrence of the egr problem occurred with an idle air controller (iac) motor failing. The egr port and valve were not checked, however the symptoms of the problem were resolved by replacement of the iac motor and clearing of the check engine light indicator. This resulted in a cost to me of $226. 69. Service occurred at dealer. In November 2001, I was sent a notice by american Honda concerning the egr failures and extending the warranty to 80,000 miles. Service occurred at dealer. In may 2002, the fourth egr problem occurred with the check engine light indicating a problem. The problem was diagnosed to be the egr valve failure and the catalytic converter failure. This repair has been estimated to be $800. 00. Honda?s district service manager has denied the claim, since the failure occurred at 81,000 miles, it has been considered to be out-of-warranty by Honda and therefore repairs would be at my cost. Service occurred at dealer in tucson, az. As a further point, Honda has denied all claims for work done under warranty.

In January 2000, I took my Honda in to the tricket dealership to have a sticking gas pedal repaired. The mileage at that time was 35, 187. The pedal would stick and require a hard punch with the foot to come loose. The dealer cleaned the throttle and told me it was caused by a Honda floor mat. This resolved the problem at that time. I removed the floor mat. On January 16, 2002 I took the Honda into the same dealership and reported my gas pedal was sticking again even though I used no floor mat on the driver's side. The dealership cleaned the throttle again with a charge to me of $35. 18 which seemed to take care of the problem. When I asked why this element had failed twice, at first I was told it was bad gas, then the dealership admitted 98-99 Honda Accords had recurring problems with the gas pedal sticking. The dealership told me this was not dangerous because the gas pedal did not normally stick wide open. I guess dangerous is a matter of opinion. A gas pedal stuck half way down could potentially cause an accident. When I called the national Honda customer service, I was told to get the throttle cleaned as part of my normal maintenance. I would like to know if other Honda owners are experiencing this dilemma. It appears to me to be an obvious design flaw and Honda should be correcting it. I am also concerned about later model Honda Accords. I certainly don't want to purchase a new problem. Any assistance you could provide would be appreciated. By the way, my Honda is a "lx" model.
Vehicle accelerates uncontrollably; consumer pulled into driveway, had foot on brakes, and vehicle accelerated on its own. Driver had to swerve into a field. Sometimes had to put in neutral to slow vehicle down. Contacted dealer, and dealer stated it could be the floor mats. Please add VIN #.
Engine check light will show up at all time on the dashboard, and light will stay on for long time.
First time I received the light 09/18/1999, I went thrugh the driver's manual and followed the instruction. The book told me to tighten up the fuel cap and drive for two to three days. The problem stayed. I contacted the dealer on 09/23/1999 and received the appointment for 09/30/1999. Told them about the 'check engine' light. The dealer found code 1146. The dealer reset the code as required then warmed up the car and road test with wide open throttle and release/no code returned. Tech inspected primary oxygen sensor and all was okay. I got the car back with instruction that if the code appear again they need to order the primary oxygen sensor. On 10/07/1999 just seven days later I recieved the check engine light. I called the dealer and got the appointment for 10/13/1999. The dealer found the same code p1146, oxygen sensor found faulty and replaced it. I got the same instruction, if the light comes back again please bring it back. I got the check engine light again on 12/22/1999. We went out for christmas weekend. Called the dealer on 12/28/1999 and got the appointment for 01/04/2000. This was the third time the car went back to the dealer. The dealer found the same code and told me that it is not worth replacing the oxygen sensor because there are other cars with similar problem and the Honda technical support unit is looking into the problem. They did not close the invoice but returned my car saying that there is nothing wrong with the car except one yellow light with "check engine" on it. In March of 2000, I received a letter from the customer service saying they are still looking into the problem with no solutions to this date. They will contact me later. I believe if an automobile is driven with 'check engine' light it could be deangerous if something really goes wrong. Is this a safety issue? please look into this matter. I am sure your efforts will not be wasted. I plan to contact the dealer on Monday with this issue. Thank you: nitin. *.

The rear-computerized motor mount on my Honda is defective According to Honda. They are aware of the problem on the 1998 and 1999 Accords, however, they say they can't fix the problem. When the car is started after it has been sitting for two hours or more, or while accelerating, the engine shifts and the rear mount collapses enough to make contact with the stopper on the body of the car. This results in a loud thunk at start up and, while driving, a loud thud and I have recently experienced a weird feeling in my steering wheel. I have been in contact with the dealership and they have been very cooperative in telling me there is nothing they can do until Honda corp. Authorizes a recall or a specific fix for my car. I am currenly in contact with their zone offic in torrance California. The case number for my car is 98-12-23-00001 and their phone number is 800-999-1009.

Dealer states that despite the car whether a BMW or Honda that no manufacturer will back up their paint job. Dealer states that the "shouldn't" rust through.

Car was taken to the moreno valley Honda and spreen Honda regarding transmission problems and we were told that the transmission was fine. My husband owns a transmission repair shop and had to tell spreen Honda what was wrong with the transmission. I finally called Honda's main office and it took them about a week to remedy the problem. Home office contacted the dealer and requested the transmission be replaced. Spreen Honda had the car for several weeks and did not offer rental car or reimbursement. Terrible customer service all around. My husband could have fixed the problem but the car was about 2 years old and under warranty when the problems started to occur. The brakes are constantly squeeking even after replacement. The material on the rear interior door handles has melted. Passenger seat belts are extremely tight. This 2000 Honda Accord se has been a total disappointment. Dt.
