Cruise Control problems of the 1997 Honda Civic

Three problems related to cruise control have been reported for the 1997 Honda Civic. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2000

Each time I am stopped and the car is in drive the idle fluctuates rapidly between 0 and 1000 rpm. When the gas is pressed the car will jerk into drive and while driving the transmission will slip.

2 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 04/11/1999

Vehicle experiencing problem with speed control which causes vehicle to slow down to 4-6 mph when engaged. Dealer/manufacturer notified, and informed consumer that this condition was normal. Seeking help from NHTSA in this matter, owner believes this is a manufacturing defect.

3 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 10/01/1996

When cruise control is set it speeds up to speed before engaging. Cruise control on this model is suppose to work this way. Consumer states that the vehicle's speed drops very quickly between five and seven mph causing the distance between her vehicle and the one behind to be very close, dealer states there is nothing that can be done.
