The ignition switch has gone out.
On 3 occasions over past 3 years we have had key/ lock/ ignition switch problems. Result: 1. Inability to start engine; 2. Unable to unlock driver side door; 3. Unable to open trunk. Latest repair on 3-28-06 consisted of replacing trunk lock tumbler and driver side door lock tumbler. Repair advisor verbally stated trunk lock tumblers were badly worn; door lock tumblers needed lubrication. We consider consequences of failure could be serious given circumstances at time of failure.
The driver noticed that the ignition key, becomes hot while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic can not duplicate the problem. Please provide further details. The consumer believes it to be a fire hazard. Complaint went with out being documented.
The contact owns a 2003 Honda Civic . The contact stated that the keys would come out of the ignition when the vehicle was not shifted in the park position. The failure also occurred when the vehicle was shifted in drive. The dealer was contacted and advised her that her vehicle was not associated with any recalls. The failure was not diagnosed and no repairs were made. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 180000.
