5 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2014

I was on hwy 18 just before lake arrowhead, CA when I lost the power steering and almost went off the cliff. Upon inspection, I found that the belt tensioner bracket's pivot bolt had sheered off the engine block causing the belt tensioner to come loose. This, in turn caused loss of power steering. There was a TSB (09-007) issued by Honda for a limited number of VIN numbers. This TSB called for replacement of the pivot bolt and the drive belt. The TSB expired on January 30, 2012, however, it appears that this is an ongoing issue and Honda should recall all affected vehicles to correct the defect. I also contacted a small local Honda dealer and inquired about the number of this pivot bolts they have sold in the last 6 months. This dealership alone sold over ten bolts. It appears that this is a wide spread issue that needs immediate attention before injuries occur or worse, lives are lost.

6 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2013

The sun visor on driver side cracked and will not stay in the up position. It is a known defect by Honda for 2006 to 2008 Honda Civics. There is a class action lawsuit against Honda. The warranty was extended to 7 years or 100,000 miles. I am at 102,934 miles. I feel this is a safety hazard. It is a known defect and Honda has not issued a recall. I would expect that this would be fixed free of charge.

7 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2013

While in heavy traffic on the highway during a traffic jam which was caused by an accident, the car broke down with no warning. There was a check engine light and nearly immediately the car stopped working entirely, so stranded for 3 hours on the highway waiting for a tow truck. Car towed to mechanic and was informed that the engine overheated - all the plastic pieces I. E. Dipstick were melted, along with parts of the radiator - the filler cap was clearly melted. There was no indication there was any overheating occurring during the problem - again, a check engine light and then the car immediately stopped running on the highway. Later it was discovered there was a recall/TSB for this model Honda for the engine block cracking and overheating. There was no indication of overheating at any time and the vehicle did not allow even for nursing the car to the nearby exit. It is extremely fortunate the car was able to get to the side of the highway in heavy traffic - just barely, still in a precarious position. After the dealership "fixed" the engine, provided horrible customer service, and refused to fix anything the melted engine destroyed (radiator) the car has been in the shop (dealerships and otherwise) multiple times for other items "not covered" with the melted engine TSB so I will be reporting anticipated break-downs in horrible traffic with no warning here as needed.

8 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2010

Drivers side door seal cracked and split. Car has 50,000 miles. The passenger door is doing the same. Had to replace at my cost, dealer said normal wear and tear.

9 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2007

Bought a 2006 Honda Civic brand new. About a year and a half later, started noticing a small area on the top of the trunk where the paint was coming off. It gradually spread where paint was coming off from the roof , to the front hood to the side panels of both the driver and passenger doors down to the fenders. The car looks terrible, big splotches all over the car where paint has come off. It makes the car look really old. We had taken the car to the Honda dealership and was told that Honda doesn't have anything where they can re-paint any vehicle with this issue. Just happened to be reading a magazine called shopsmart which is put out by consumer reports and there was an article "fix your car-free". It mentioned that 2006-2011 Honda Civics having issues with cracking and/or chalking on the hood, roof, trunk or front fenders for certain colors. The fix was that the dealer will repaint the affected areas at no charge. In the article, it gave different websites to check out other complaints, find out about any recalls. Now I find out that there are many other owners having the same type of problem we are having with the paint coming off all over the car. Honda hasn't done anything to fix this problem nor do they want to take responsibility for this defect and simply re-paint the troubled areas. So, right now we're stuck with a crappy looking car.
