Engine block cracked while I started driving it today and car overheated, towed to dealer and they said that it was 2years out of warranty, I had asked before if it was in the recall and they said if it wasnt cracked it wouldnt be under warranty.
My daughter was driving and car shut off, had the car towed to firestone and they told me the car overheated and cracked the block. I found out there was a "service bulletin extending the warranty to 10 years. Honda says it is related to a defect in the engine but will only cover 25% of the cost cause its out of warranty because they go by the delivery date, not the purchase date which the service bulletin states. Honda does not notify customers who are thinking about buying these cars are aware that there may be an issues.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the vehicle overheated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine block was damaged. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (north city Honda, 6600 n western Ave, chicago, IL 60645, (773) 274-7777) where the diagnosis was confirmed. The dealer informed the contact that there were only 20 more days to have the engine block covered under a warranty. The dealer later informed the contact that the VIN was removed from the warranty list and the repairs were no longer covered. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was 130,000.
Car began to overheat with normal use. In an attempt to fix the issue, a reputable local repair shop replaced parts to resolve the issue, not fully diagnosing the issue thats found within bulletin 10-048. The shop correctly diagnosed the issue, however were not aware of the recall. The engine was replaced with genuine Honda parts. I went through the recall refund process for 8 full months after supplying all of the relevant invoices, vehicle maintenance history, etc. And was denied on the basis that the invoices had the previous diagnosis listed that was incorrect, below the correct diagnosis of a cracked engine. Honda is not honoring their recall refund in any way shape or form. Honda then attempted to offer me a coupon for future service repairs, clearly showing that they recognize I had a case, however simply did not want to pay out the price of the replaced engine. Note the date listed below is the date my claim was finally rejected. After waiting 8 months.
Driving down 270 in columbus ohio doing 67mph when I noticed when I pressed on the gas to pass into the next lane, nothing happened. I down shifted into 4th gear and tried again, nothing. Luckily I was able to cross over 3 lanes of traffic and coast down the off ramp on westbroad. I called aaa and had them tow it to my step fathers shop were him and his friend build hot rods in their spare time. After taking a look under the hood and running a couple of diagnostic tests they determined that the engine block was cracked and the car over heated. No engine light came on!.
