4 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2012

Sun visor split apart causing the visor to loosely stay in the line of sight of the driver. The mechanism that holds the visor up does not hold the visor up anymore because of the split. Looks like the heat of the interior of the car mixed with the plastic pieces of the visor caused the defect. Honda needs to not just replace the parts, they need to redesign the visors using different materials that will hold up to the extreme heat that car interiors have to face. Currently they are replacing the visors with the same defectively designed visors. They need to be forced to fix the problem, instead of treat the symptom! type in Honda sun visor defect in any search engine and you will see that this is a very common problem!.

12 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2011

We've had this vehicle for less than a year. It was purchased for our teen daughter because we thought it was a safe car. Today, she reported that on her way home from school, the visor split making it impossible to adjust while driving. Two hands are needed to adjust and the sun was blinding. Thankfully, she didn't get in an accident. We fear for our daughters safety, and that of others, especially after reading the other 76 very similar visor complaints. We had heard about such complaints before (not realizing it was Civics) and thought it was pretty silly, however, now that it's happened to us, it's not so silly. It's seriously dangerous.

13 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2011

Both driver's and passenger's sun visors cracked and fail to work in the area where visor rotates. Visors need to be replaced because they do not work at all. The car is a 2008 Honda Civic si sedan.

14 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2011

Sun visor split open and dropped down.

15 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2011

I've noticed several complaints about broken sun visors. When getting ready to go to work I got into my 08 Civic and had discovered it had a crack in the driver side visor. The visor was in the down position, which I found odd since I get home at 2am and I am the only person in my car. The crack appears to be an internal problem. Prior to that, it was always very hard to swing the visor to the side or to clip it back in. I find this broken visor to be not only an obstruction of view but also a petty issue that Honda should recall and fix. It sounds like there's a defect in the visors and Honda needs to replace them even if the car is out of warranty.

16 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2011

My wife was on her way home from work when the visor's plastic rings that secure it inside on the plastic post that hangs down from the ceiling broke. I have taken the visor itself off the post, and have disassembled it. It is apparent to me that the grade of plastic used to secure this part cannot withstand the flexing required when folding it down to block out the sun while driving. Not only am I now driving with my head near the roof to block out the sun in the mornings and evenings, but also my wife could have been seriously injured due to losing control of the vehicle while trying to figure out what went wrong when she pulled the visor down. It would not go back into the up position while she was driving. From reading reviews about this issue online, I am not the only one with this problem. I think this is a serious safety issue that Honda should recall.

17 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2011

The sun visors in my 2008 Honda Civic have broken and are unable to be used. It cracked/split apart at the arm. After doing some research I discovered that this is a recurring problem in the Civic since 2006. I plan to visit the dealership for a fix but have been informed that if the vehicle is no longer under warranty, it will be fixed at the owners expense. If this has been a recurring problem since 2006, seems that there should be a recall for this.

18 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2011

2008 Honda Civic, driver's side sun visor split open and drops down into my field of vision. Visor will not stay in retracted position. I have done some searching on the internet and this is a widely recurring problem with my car model.

19 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2011

2008 Honda Civic coupe sun visor driver side just split and dropped down blocking the view just like that while driving. Have to use the hand to hold up the visor.

20 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2011

2008 Honda Civic sedan 65000 miles. Driver side sunvisor imploded. Will not stay up against the roof anymore. The sunvisor is visibly split near the mount to the roof. This is the first time and will require a new sunvisor.

21 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2011

For the second time since buying this car new the driver-side visor has split in half. The separation occurred at the seam where two plastic parts are joined. The visor will no longer snap into its proper position and hangs down, obstructing visibility and creating a driving hazard. The first incident occurred at approximately 30,000 miles. It has broken again at 50,000 miles. This apparently is a chronic problem on this make and model.

22 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2011

I have a 2008 Honda Civic and the driver's visor just decided to come apart. It is still attached, but it will not stay up in it's proper position, instead, it falls in front of my face causing me to be distracted. I am paying for school out of my pocket and cannot afford to replace it just yet. I have to leave it down at all times, and it cannot be pushed back, I have to leave it straight down in my face and bend down to see street lights and other things. It just did this one day, and I never even use my visor. I also only have about 40k miles on my car.

23 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2011

Both driver's and passenger's side visors split open almost simultaneously. Today (6/5/2011) was fairly hot (in san antonio TX), while driving, I pulled the visor down due to the brightness of the sun and the bright reflection of the sun from another car's windows. My daughter did the same thing also. Almost at the same time, when adjusting the visors back up, there was the sound of a "pop" and the visors would not stay up. This became a safety problem as it would dangle in the field of vision all the time. The plastic appears to have split down the center joint along the length of the visor.

24 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2011

The visor broke off with normal use.

25 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2011

1) hot days 2) sun visors fall down and block vision of road. 3) driver's side was replaced by dealer out of warranty. I was charged $30+ for the part because vehicle was out of warranty. Passenger side has not been fixed.

Failure Date: 05/05/2011

Plastic on the sun visor in my 2008 Honda Civic has split/cracked and will no longer stay up. Or where you place it. Safety hazard.

27 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2011

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic lx. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked the visor separated along the seam blocking the view of the road. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer, and the manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 28,000 and the current mileage was 29,000. Rds.

28 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2011

The sunvisor on the passenger side broke and was replaced about a year ago, the replacement recently broke and needs replaced at my expense. The visor hanges down in the drivers field of view and is in the position that a person of average or above average height can strike their head upon in in the event of a crash or even entering and exiting the automobile.

29 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2011

I got in my car and pulled down the sun visor on the driver's side and it broke. I tried pushing it back up against the top lining, but it kept falling down. I had to drive 10 miles to get home with my vision partially blocked because the visor would not stay up. I understand this is a common problem with many Honda Civics.

30 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2011

Driver side visor hinge broke and visor swung down and will not stay up. I didnt even pull it down. It fell when I was going over a speed bump at a low speed! the visor now blocks my view when driving.

31 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

The sun visor in my 2008 Honda Civic has fallen apart. I am the only driver of the car and under normal wear and tear it would not stay up out of my way. After a month like that it just fell off completely. This occured around 32,000 miles. After investigating online it seems like a common problem that will cost more than $100 to fix. I have seeing because of the glare of the sun.

32 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2011

The driver side sun visor broke while adjusting within normal operation. The visor now hangs loosely in the upright locked position, causing an obstruction for head motion. While in use to block the sun, the visor hangs lower than designed and obstructs vision.

33 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

Over time, the plastic portion of my driver's side sun visor rotted and broke so that the visor is constantly down. Because of this, my field of vision is always restricted. If I tape the visor up, frequently I'm blinded by the sun or other bright lights. I have contacted Honda regarding this defect, but as yet, they won't fix the problem.

34 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

The sun visor on the driver's side of my 2008 Honda Civic ex-l broke while under warranty and the dealer replaced it. Now, out of warranty, the visor on the passenger side has broken. I have not pursued any action from Honda, yet. I have been reading on-linethat this is a frequent complaint and I wanted file my own complaint to add to the others.

35 Visibility problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2010

I've had my Civic 2008 sun visor replaced three times. It appears that the sun visor plastic parts fail with heat (hot days). The passenger side just failed again; this is the fourth time.
