The contact owns a 2012 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the alarm indicator sounded off intermittently without cause. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic, who informed the contact that the alarm was a factory-made system and then suggested pressing the key fob twice to stop the alarm from sounding off. The vehicle was not officially diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 167,842.
I am reporting a serious safety concern with my 2012 Honda Civic hybrid. What component or system failed and is it available for inspection? the hybrid drive system and regenerative braking system are malfunctioning. The hybrid battery recharging system including the mpi have failed, causing the vehicle to operate solely on the gasoline engine. This results in degraded braking performance due to the loss of regenerative braking. How was safety put at risk? when the hybrid system fails, braking performance is noticeably reduced, increasing stopping distances. This creates a high risk of collision, especially in sudden-stop situations or heavy traffic. Additionally, the sudden loss of hybrid power assistance can cause unsafe changes in vehicle acceleration and handling. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes. The issue has been confirmed by pearson Honda in midlothian, virginia. They state the mpi needs to be replaced and state my VIN is outside their "factory warranty extension". Multiple calls to Honda America state that I am responsible for all repairs and that this is not their problem and will not clarify how they decide what VIN's are included in the extension. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by others? the vehicle has been inspected by pearson Honda in midlothian, va and documentation is available. It has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives at this time. Warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to failure? yes. Warning lights for the hybrid system and/or ima (integrated motor assist) illuminate promptly as you start the vehicle. These first appeared last week (8/4-8/8/2025) and have occurred multiple times since.
So according to Honda service bulletin 20-030, all Honda Civic 2012-2015 hybrids having ima motor power inverter (mpi) have to fixed. I have the same car, same model, same year and same error codes as the service bulletin and this is such a serious electrical power inverter issue. Yet Honda is denying to work on it, even though there is 15 years or 150,000 miles warranty for this specific issue and my car has 95000 miles. Yet Honda is trying to run away from fixing it by claiming the VIN number is not associating whereby my car is exact same as the model, year and issue for the given service bulletin. This is complete absurd and consumer rights are being thrown away by Honda. I am very sure that my united states NHTSA, state consumer protection, federal trade commission, all are going to help me and make Honda pay for this. I have attached the service bulletin and here my error codes on the car: p1437 motor drive module (mdm) short circuit poa78 tmu-l motor power inverter module internal circuit malfunction p15a5 motor current sensor circuit malfunction clear confirmed & pending trouble codes 2 pending trouble codes poa78 tmu-l motor power inverter module internal circuit malfunction p15a5 motor current sensor circuit malfunction clear confirmed & pending trouble codes ^ ^ 2 permanent trouble codes poa78 p15a5 motor current sensor circuit malfunction tmu-l motor power inverter module internal circuit malfunction.
My passenger airbag light is on and stays on.
Abs/vsa module faulty. Upon internet research it seems to be a very common problem among owners of this vehicle.
Car is stating air bag system check on and off.
The ima inverter system keeps malfunctioning without any clear reasons, and the car is in drive mode, which makes the electric motor unresponsive. Additionally, the braking system also malfunctions, leading to a lack of control over the vehicle. I have tried to repair it multiple times, but to no avail. It keeps malfunctioning without any apparent reason.
Owns a 2012 Honda Civic hybrid. While driving ~30mph, the ima/braking/engine/charging/abs lights illuminated. The car still driving but the hybrid system fails. Also, when starting the engine it switches to using the starter instead of the ev motor. The 12v battery will not charge and die soon, which increases the risk of a stall on the road, thus leading to a crash. The vehicle was taken to a Honda dealer which suggests a model power inverter failure. There is a technical service bulletin: 20-030 (warranty extension: 2012-15 Civic hybrid ima motor power inverter) related to the failing parts, however, the vehicle was not covered under the TSB. The vehicle was not prepared. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000 miles.
I purchased this vehicle 6 months ago from a dealer. In the short time I have had the car, there have been multiple issues presented. Bluetooth has been malfunctioning (connects the disconnects), window regulator has had to be replaced three times now (window kept disconnecting from the track and would cause the window to go down sideways and get stuck), more recently the ac condenser went out (it was reported as the condenser has small pieces of metal inside preventing the freon to get into the system and cool the inside of the vehicle).
If we don't drive my car for a couple of days, we have to keep charging the battery. We keep buying batteries. For instance, the last battery was bought in 10/2022 and we're in 6/2023 and it's doing it again. This time we know it's not the battery. And before we were told it was the battery.
Https://electricvehicleforums. Com/forums/Honda-civic-hybrid-12/civic-hybrid-ima-failure-bad-power-inverter-32102/index6. Html on this link, there is a form of several other individuals experiencing the same issue that I experienced with this vehicle. Randomly, while driving, on the highway, all the engine dashboard lights came on at once. The car stopped working. It shut down in the most dangerous environment and it’s a miracle that we didn’t get into a car crash. Taking the car to hybrid auto repair in order have the codes read, there was a readout of p1440, b2993, and b2992. Doing research, I found the link which I included; it appears there is a consistent igbt malfunction in the motor power inverter which is believed to happen after 100k miles but from different testimonials, can actually happen at any mileage. This electrical issue has been closely related to the air conditioner (which our car had issues with when purchased) with the summer months upon us, I can only imagine how many more of these hybrid vehicles will spontaneously lose power in the middle of traffic.
The contact owns a 2012 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was extremely hot air was throughout the vehicle. There was an abnormal burning odor detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed the air condition compressor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.
The vehicle stop working because the mpi is bad, there is a service bulletin that cover the warranty.
We were driving down the highway when the power steering light came on. It took two of us to turn the wheel to make a right or left turn. We were both afraid for our lives! we did not know if we were going to make it home but we did. I am petrified to drive this car again! I have to use the car because I live so far away from stores to shop etc. Please help me soon so I can use the car again!!!.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the check charging system warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who stated that the charging system was operational however, the system needed to be updated or reprogrammed. The contact contacted metro Honda (9399 autoplex st, montclair, CA 91763, (909) 542-9637) who informed the contact that the failure was related to manufacturer communication number: 12/041 however, the vehicle was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed vehicle was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
Was driving on interstate 70 in richmond indiana was traveling in the middle lane of a 3 lane highway when all of a sudden my lights on my dash off licked on and off and I lost all electrical power including brakes steering and the engine I was able to force the vehicle and coast to a stop at an exit I turned on my hazards and my hazards were not working either so it was a complete electrical failure. In addition it was late in the evening so while I was driving and I lost all lights nobody could see me and I could not see anything this could've ended very tragically for me trying to move over as the speed limit posted in the area is 70 mph. In researching the issue I found multiple forums and posts regarding this same type of failure. Honda needs to fix this. Now I need to tow to a service center and see how much more money I will need to come up with to be able to drive my vehicle.
The display which shows odometer, mpg, etc flashes on and off. When low on gas, the display continually beeps and advises you are low on gas, instead of one time when you start the vehicle. Replaced once under warranty, now broken again, part # 78260-tr2-a11rm.
My wife and I have a 2012 Honda Civic which seriously is a nightmare in repairs a lot of maintenance issues involving electrical as well as the car lacking power and the car needing to replace electrical harness due to the wires bing wrapped in some kind of sweet texture that rodents seemed to enjoy to much. Furthermore with the amount of problems we had with his car at 66100 miles I would much rather go back to my 95 Honda Civic 92 Honda Civic or 93 Honda Civic del sol any other day than this jung what kind of car needs an update for its diagnostics to work seriously. What is it iron man needing a charge this car is junk the battery don't last that long and furthermore when they decide to recall this battery what is vehicle you can gladly take your jalopy back. . . Don't buy a Honda unless you want to wish to buy new like we did and throw thousands and thousands of dollars into your vehicle to have it run like junk. Toyota camry or corolla here I come. . . Because this vehicle resale value sucks and so does everything else about the vehicle the gas mileage is not at all what you should claim it to be especially for ecoboost motor so yeah sad thing is my family has bought three Hondas and this is the last time they see any of our retirement this car is seriously junk you can gladly take my back even if you don't recall it all rights can send it back to you in confetti us army ranger. . . .
At 70,000 miles my "vsa alert" and "check steering alert" has been flashing on my dashboard. Honda service "claims they never saw such a complaint" but last week Honda motor corporation issued a recall to fix this issue on 130,000 Honda vehicles for this same problem. The fix could run over $2,000. 00 . This alert flashes and beeps, annoyingly, while auto is stationary and moving, it flashes constantly now for the last 7,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Honda Civic. While the contact's daughter was driving 50 mph, the steering wheel seized and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a power steering and electrical failure. The contact was informed that the power steering column needed replacement. The contact stated that the vehicle was not repaired due to cost and believed there should be a recall. The Honda manufacturer and local dealer (millennium Honda, 286 n franklin st, hempstead, NY 11550, (516) 481-2800) were contacted and informed the contact of no open recalls. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
The contact owns a 2012 Honda Civic. While driving 40 mph, the power steering, vsa, and esc indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 57,000.
The contact owns a 2012 Honda Civic. The contact observed that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the computer module needed to be updated. The vehicle was repaired. The contact mentioned that the air bag warning indicator illuminated again after the repair. The vehicle was taken to the dealer again where it was diagnosed that the entire air bag system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they needed 24 hours to review and would contact the consumer back. The failure mileage was 25,000.
While I was driving my car 40mph something happened and suddenly power steering went off along with a message. It is so difficult to steer. And the dealer stated that there is nothing wrong. It's still at the dealer. However problem keeps going on. I think it has to be recalled, too.
While car was parked and idling, I noticed flames coming from backseat ceiling light. Plastic and flames dripped onto the upholstery catching it on fire as well as the ceiling area. I was able to extinguish the flames with a snow brush. I immediately called the Honda dealership in town and am waiting for a tow truck to take it to the dealership so they can diagnose the issue.
The tpms system fails despite the fact the all the tires are properly inflated. This illuminates 2 warning lights plus activate the information center display. Two of the sensors have been replaced by the dealer under warranty but the problem keep occurring.
I was driving a 2012 Honda Civic when the car in front of me slammed on their brakes and came to a complete stop due to something in the road. I slammed on my brakes and tried to avoid the car in front of me by swerving to the right. The driver side of the front of my car hit the back of the car in front of me. My car was completely smashed in the front. Air bags did not deploy. After I came to a complete stop, my car lit on fire. The car was burned and completely destroyed.
I have had several issues with my airbag stating there is an airbag error in my car. I took it to Honda and they confirmed that in their computer it shows that there is something wrong with the driver side airbag but they don't know what. They told me in order to check it they would have to take the car apart and I will have to pay $300 up front just to check it. They also stated that it isnt covered in the warranty even though my car has never been in a car accident and it is a major safety issue. I have not been able to get it fixed because I cannot afford for them to even just look at my car. What is the point of having a 6 yr warranty coverage if Honda doesnt want to cover anything! over the summer I had a drainage leak that was coming from the electrical fuse in my car, guess what Honda did not care!. . . These days I think a bicycle would be the safest thing. . . Lol. . . Suffice it to say life is expensive and I don't think we will be getting a break. Thanks Honda for only caring about your sales & money and not caring about your customers safety! lives! families! wives! husbands! & childrens!.
On 12/24/13 I rented a car from hertz and returned on 12/30/13. During that entire time period the car had no working taillights and partially functional dashboard and console lights. The car was unsafe not only for me and my wife but any other driver on the roads at the time. The car was illegal to operate in pennsylvania, ohio and indiana and I was pulled over three times by various police departments. I contacted hertz and their response was to have me drive it to the indianapolis airport. I suggested to the hertz representative that this wasn't acceptable because the car'¿¿s condition makes it illegal and unsafe to drive. Ultimately, we were left with a car that was unsafe and illegal which we reluctantly drove to the indianapolis airport at the time of our departure. Upon my return to phoenix I've attempted, as instructed by hertz, to contact their location in the pittsburgh to seek a refund. After 16 phone calls to that number I've either been cut off by the phone system because the voicemail is full, selected options that lead nowhere, or redirected to employees in other cities who tell me to call the location in the pittsburgh. The strategy appears to be one of continual delay in hopes that customers with legitimate complaints ultimately give up. The contractual obligation with hertz ensures I'll be provided with a safe and legal vehicle and clearly this was not the case. Hertz has made no attempt to responded to my request and the issue remains unresolved. I hope this letter will prompt the dot and NHTSA to question hertz'¿¿s vehicle inspection and safety protocols, to ensure they have practices in place to protect the consumer and to quickly and fairly resolve any issues. My intent is that this letter helps future consumers avoid situations similar to the one I've experienced and to make certain they're driving safe, legal and reliable vehicles.
The bluetooth microphone screeches for the people on the other end of the call. I cannot hear it. It was replaced once under warranty, however my car is no long under warranty and it is doing it again. There are bulletins about this issue, but no recalls as it's not a safety issue. Just a money issue.
While driving through heavy rainfall, all interior lighting went out, media player crackled and stopped playing. A few minutes after pulling over, the car returned to normal. There were no lightening conditions observed at the time of the event.
I was driving home from work and was making a turn from coming off a stop light and the cars in front of me were stopped to merge onto the highway, I went to press the brake and my foot went to the floor and the brakes never kicked in. I swerved to try and miss the SUV in front of me but was not able to miss the SUV and rear ended him. I got out of the car and did not notice any ice or any fluid on the road that would cause me to loose traction. I hit mostly on the passenger side which saved the air bags from going off, had I hit front on I am positive the air bags would have gone off as upon impact the screens on the inside of the car turned red and read "check airbags" and then my car shut off and hazard lights turned on. This accident happened 2/1 and am waiting to get an estimate from my insurance company as to the total damage amount if my car will be totaled out or not.
When you buy a new car you don't expect to have any problems, well that wasn't the case with me. 1. Water was leaking in the moon roof all the rubber had to be replaced 2. So much rust because of leak 3. Heating system had to be replaced when you turned it on would make such a loud noise it was unbelievable. Dealership said needed a part spent almost a day and then said need another part ,, cant believe a new car needs new parts. 4. Tire sensor light kept coming on . 5. Keys would not come out of the egnition . 6. Right side of the window would rattle between the dashboard and window, top of visor. . 7. Needed new battery 8. Filed a complaint with the better business bureau. 9 spent more time going back and forth to dealership which I should have not had to do this. 10. Told the dealership car makes a thumbing noise when you go over a bump. Was told a defective right rear shock causing the thumbing noise . 11. Had to replace light bulb on right side. 12. Should not , had any of these problems with a new car. . .

While I was diving on 1st October night, my dash light was suddenly turned off. In Honda Civic speedometer is digital, so it was turned off too. So I was driving without checking the speed. Later I took my car to a nearest Honda dealer to diagnose the problem but they refused to diagnose. I reported this problem, many times to Honda customer service but they didn't take any action so that the dealer can diagnose or fix the problem. Regarding this problem,I also wrote a mail to american Honda's ceo but got no reply till now. As a result I am driving this car with this problem and my life is at risk.
Honda Civic hybrid 2012 bought just after six days failed after doing a left turn. All warning lights lit from the dashboard. Restarted and was able to drive home but failed to start next day. Towed to the nearest Honda dealer. Service guy after calling Honda headquarters determine it was the abs system that caused the failure. Still in the shop for repairs.
