Body: underneath part came unsecured out of nowhere on my collage daughters car. It was scary for her as it scraped bottom and rattled out of no where on highway. She stopped and since nothing on hand, she had to push it up with feet and it bent to hold till she got to shop. They quick fix with zip tie or something. Someone hit her from back and she took to shop. I mentioned it that some noise coming after the fix and was supposed to to bring it to them this week. It just rattled but nothing else. Drivable still. Than middle of no where, that bottom popped again and she panicked. It was Sunday so no one is open. I had to have her park at work and pick her up which is an hour away. This is very dangerous as when we googled, this has happened to soooo many Honda Civic owners! need to do recall and fix this issue for good. It’s underneath the car so hard to tell till it drops to flow. We love the car but this issue is greater. Also, she has tire sensor light always comes up. We got new tires also!.

These vehicles have major paint issues. I experienced the paint flaking off the side back panel near the window and had to go through a somewhat annoying process to have the dealer look into it. After I had this issue I looked online to see if anyone has this same problem and it came to my attention that it is a nationwide issue that is not being addressed. Here is a link of other people who have experienced this issue, [xxx] . The paint is too thin and loses it's clear coat easily then the color breaks and flakes off. I honestly believe this is a manufacture defect as so many cars are affected with the exact same issue. Now my car paint is peeling near the top of the window and I would like an investigation done. I have taken very good car of the vehicle, hand washes and it only has 15k miles. I paid over 28k for this car and didn't expect the paint to be so thin or poor. Please help myself and the many others that are having this issue by formally opening an investigation. I appreciate your time and your assistance. Take care! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

4 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2024

When jacking car to change tire, the lift point crumbled due to corrosion causing the car to fall back to the ground. There was no obvious evidence of extreme corrosion; it rusted from the inside. It is unknown how much more structural rust is inside the unibody but the car may no longer be safe for the road.

5 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2024

Driving the car home at 6pm on a highway, and heard a loud pop sound, but there were no rocks or objects hitting the vehicle. It turn out that the sunroof glass had exploded from the center for no reason. I am only glad the sunroof was not in use/open at the time, otherwise, the shattered glass will definitely lead to some serious consequences.

6 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

The front windshield glue holding it on the car has failed. The windshield can be pushed out completely with only a pinky finger. This should not happen and is very dangerous. This windshield could of came off easily from sudden stopping or collisions and caused serious bodily injury to the driver. Safelite auto glass came out to inspect and replace the window due to this defect. They stated it is a factory installed front windshield and they had never seen anything like it. The windshield started coming off less than a week ago. There were no warnings. We knew there was a problem when we heard wind sound coming in while driving. I have tried to upload a pdf documentation, but the website will not let me upload it.

7 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2022

My paint is peeling off around the rear windshield of the car. Not sure what is causing this. My Honda Civic is a cobalt blue color, when brought to the dealer it was stated they have seen this on the color blue my car is as well as white. Car was not in a accident and no one is at risk.

8 Body problem

11 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2022

This report is on the paint defect issue on the 10th generation Honda Civic that can potentially impact the vehicle's structural integrity from the windshield damage. The white paint on my vehicle started peeling around the perimeter of the rear window with the rain groove. I am uncertain of the exact time it started, but the paint defect became noticeable to the naked eye just past the 5 years of ownership. The size of the paint chip has now extended to the rear body of the vehicle. A section of bare steel body around the rear window is exposed to the elements. Based on the inspection and evaluation by the authorized Honda paint and body shop that was recommended by the dealership, I have been informed that the cause is commonly due to improper paint priming during the manufacturing process. According to the paint and body shop owner, such paint peeling is a widely known issue with certain color paint for many auto manufacturers that use the same paint primer. I was warned that paint peeling will likely worsen with the water being captured underneath the paint. I am reporting this incident as a safety concern because the rust on the bare metal chassis of the vehicle can cause corrosion under the windshield adhesive over time and lead to the window breaking. The windshield is critical to the vehicle's structural rigidity as it contributes to both the roof support and the airbag deployment. The Honda dealership service manager submitted goodwill on my vehicle past warranty for a paint defect from the manufacturing process, but american Honda motor company has denied the claim as they determined it as cosmetic damage only. There are multiple reports online on paint defects from other Honda Civic owners from various places. There was a lawsuit settlement on older generation Honda Civic vehicles, but it looks like the known issue is still present on the newer generation. Based on the location of the paint defect, it can become a safety concern.

12 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2021

Paint falling off body panels.

13 Body problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2021

When the fuel door actuator is activated (locking the doors on remote control), the motor makes a loud noise as it locks the fuel door. Unlocking does not make a noise. Also, when getting into car (unlocking doors) and then driving away, as the door auto-lock the actuator is engaged and it makes a loud noise. Sound only happens when the actuator is engaged. Sounds like the internal motor is struggling to close/lock the fuel door. It began 2 weeks ago, and the sound is getting worse and annoying.

14 Body problem

17 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2020

Since purchasing my 2016 Civic new, I have had issues with the front lower under-end of the car being too low. It constantly scrapes when I go over speed bumps or small curbs. On 7/27/20, I was parking at a restaurant and slight drove up on a small curb, I stopped and backed up and parked. About 15 seconds later as I was about to exit my car, suddently the airbag deployed hitting me in the face, shoulder and chest. I was dazed, fortunately, two CO-workers who were following me to the restaurant, saw that I needed help and opened the door to help me get out. I have had a headache over the last couple of days - my doctor told me it is probably a slight concussion. I would like to know if Honda has had any similar issues with this car and I would like to have my repairs paid. It is not fair for me to have the repairs done under my insurance because I have a $1,000 deductible and they are likely to raise my premiums. This was not my fault. Let me know.

18 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

Paint peeling around rear window.

19 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2020

The front driver side door is the only door that does not unlock or lock with keyless entry. The only way to unlock the vehicle is to manually pull out the key from the key fop and insert it into the door or open it up from the passenger side seat. There's nothing wrong with the current key fops because this was taken to the dealership for the same problem and was given 2 new key fops, but the problem still exists. This can be a huge issue when I'm trying to access the vehicle in case of an emergency and can't even get into the vehicle promptly.

20 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2019

Having issues with the brakes, acts like when you brake its seem like wants to keep going, purchase 3 mos ago from dealer, tires making grinding sounds when driving on frreway with speed between 65 and 70 mpr.

21 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2019

Upon return to car after leaving car locked, four windows are found open all the way while shopping, parked in parking lot or parked at home or elsewhere, when opening windows from inside, glass goes up/down repeatedly, trunk opens by itself while vehicle is in motion. Car is unsafe, subject to theft, or interior damage by the elements-rain, snow, etc. Serious electrical/control problems. Trunk problem was reported earlier to NHTSA shortly after purchase date of 3/05/2019 from dealer. Dealer was also notified, they quickly checked & found nothing wrong. Vehicle was driven at various speeds in interstate, county roads, local streets, at different dates, etc.

22 Body problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2019

Vehicle was parked on driveway, when turned on it had battery and electric issues (battery just replaced by professional) ac blows out hot air (ac fluid just refilled as well by professional) and back door won't open from inside. Car was purchased less than two years ago and already malfunctioning.

23 Body problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2019

Trunk opens by itself, sometimes while driving on the highway, local street, others when parked.

24 Body problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

Tl- the contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at highway speeds the vehicle had experienced jerking and hesitation and on occasions while operating the vehicle multiple warning lights would suddenly display indicating failures with the braking system, steering, stability control etc. After turning the vehicle off and then restarting the engine the vehicle would operate as normal. The cause of the failures were not diagnosed and repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer apple Honda 1(801 whiteford rd. York PA. ) were both notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 45,000. Jft.

25 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2018

Unknown, rear ended another vehicle no damage occurred.

26 Body problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2018

Vehicle was involved in a front end/side collision. When told by collision shop the vehicle was finished and upon coming in to pick up the vehicle, obvious structural damage remained untouched, and unrepaired engine damage was obvious. Collision shop and insurance company insisted vehicle repairs were complete and fought me to take the vehicle to the Honda dealership for diagnostic. When the vehicle was finally taken, the check engine light was on and a dtc code was thron. Additional issues with the integrity of the vehicle post collision were noted and both collision shop and insurance company refuse to acknowledge safety issues and repair the vehicle to safety standards. Neither the collision shop nor the insurance company is familiar with the new 2016 Civic body, diagnostics, crash zones, and Honda position statements issued for the particular model. The vehicle was specifically purchased for a newly licensed driver, with safety being the top priority. The vehicle is no longer safe and it would be tragic to have another accident, where the other driver is at fault, with a much worse outcome because the integrity of this this vehicle is compromised due to inadequate repair. Unfortunately I cannot load all the repair photos, but the hood is not fitted, the pillars are buckled, the foot rockers/ floor pan is loose.

27 Body problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2017

Right back quarter.

28 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2017

There is a dent on my car's rear upper quarter panel (c-pillar crease) on the driver's side. This dent is present on all 2016 and 2017 Civic sedan cars' either on driver's side or passenger's side. Honda dealer didn't accept this as a manufacturing defect and they refused to fix it. Additionally, there is no official explanation from Honda about the issue. I suspect that it's a safety issue. This dent problem exists globally, it's not a region specific problem as I have seen.

29 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2017

Just driving down a city street at 45 mph and heard a big pop. Pulled over to discover my sunroof glass had actually exploded outward. I believe this to be faulty tempered glass and wanted to report this issue. Thx.

30 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2017

Door prominent, dealers do not repair, they said they can not repair.

31 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2017

Trunk spontaneously opens. It hasn't happened while driving. I have taken it to the dealer, contacted Honda's headquarters. They are unable to reproduce the issue so cannot fix it. There are others on the Civic online forum who are experiencing this issue. This is a security issue where I cannot keep anything in my trunk. This is not right. One night after I got home, I went back out to my car and the trunk was opened. On numerous occasions, I go out to my car in the morning or after work and my trunk is open. I keep the keys as far away from the car as I can, I hang them up, but them in the bedroom and it does not good--so it is not the sensitivity of the key. I also noticed my gas tank hatch opens after I fill the tank. See the attached correspondence to Honda dated today.

32 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2016

The Honda Civic was in the driveway with the emergency brake set when it was parked. The vehicle has a manual transmission. A few hours later the car alarm was going off and when I went to look to see what was going on I discovered that the car had rolled down the drive and into a telephone pole. The police in my jurisdiction do not take accident reports for accidents on private property therefore a police report was not taken. After the incident I found that there was a active recall involving the emergency brake. When I bought the car on October 8, 2016 I was told there was a "do not sell" note in the computer system due to the recall. The dealer said they could do the download while we did the paperwork. After this incident involving the wreck the car was taken to a local dealer who checked the download and confirmed that the download was up to date. The car was taken back to the dealer two days later to have the brake system inspected which the dealer stated that there were no codes found in the system. This was done at the advice of Honda customer service. Honda customer service contacted me today and stated that at this time they recommend proceeding with an insurance claim. I stated that I thought that since there was an active recall and the recall had been performed on the vehicle and the emergency brake still failed that they would want to take the car to look at. I was told that they would look at the dealer reports and if they found something they would contact me back which seems dangerous to me. What's to say the brake won't fail again and next time there may be someone behind it or in front of it.

33 Body problem

Following my wife after a recall on her car, it began to rain lightly. Knowing we were entering a 75mph turnpike, I phoned her to advise her to turn on her lights. She did. At the stop light before getting on the turnpike, all I could see were 2 tiny led bulb types on both sides. As she began to reach speed, she got 10-15 car lengths ahead of me. We knew the factory spoiler causes a vortex behind her car as we wipe off black powder that builds on the back of her car each day when she comes home from work. I've never driven behind her let alone in the rain. With the vortex creating a boiling spray, and the tiny led bulbs, I could not see her at all. Just a spray. No lights. At our exit close to home, as she took off, I could not see her tail lights even 5 car lengths back. It was day time I forgot to mention but cloudy and as stated, light rain. I could see her brake as the brake lights use a common bulb. Again, with the lights in the on position, the only time I saw her tail light was in the garage. The vehicle has two issues. The spoilers create a spray of water reducing visibility of the backbof her car in the rain or fog to zero. Honda even shows photos with their lights on. Tiny angled led's pointing up and in. And not nearly bright enough to be seen in rain. Heavy rain or dense fog, could be catastrophic. My wife drives I-40 & I-44 to and from work daily. 13 miles. She's had the car just a few months. I am concerned each morning. She currently leaves when it's dark. I'm worried about the spring rains and dawns early light wheather she will be seen. As stated earlier, the spoilers cause the turbulence or vortex behind the car. The lights are too small and lumens not strong enough to be seen. Photos below will show on city streets and in our driveway. The photos I took from my phone the last few blocks home and into the garage. This is bad! she loves this car.

I filed just moments ago but entered the wrong photos. These are more clear. The lights were on the entire time. They just don't show.

American Honda is the most fraudulent company I ever dealt with. Within the 1st year, a serious problem developed with the trunk, which randomly opens for no reason, sometimes overnight, sometimes while driving on the highway, which is incredibly dangerous. We took the car 2x to the delray beach dealer , & it claimed itcouldn't identify or replicate the problem, & then that they fixed it. They did nothing & the problem never stopped. I wasted 2 days on these visits, accomplishing nothing. Last month, now in California, & still under warranty, the trunk opened while I was away for a week, & I had water damage to > $200 of items in my trunk. I spoke with livette at Honda, who told me to go to the berkeley dealer to have the car assessed. I reviewed the history of the matter, & told her I wanted to be sure the dealer would be authorized to make repairs. Instead. I wasted another 4+ hours at the dealer, who said it couldn't identify & had never heard of the issue. There are hundreds of complaints about this on line, & when I showed them the complaints & how dealers had fixed the problem, the dealer said it needed approval from Honda (Honda said it needed the dealer to approve the repair, so it's like dealing with the insane). The dealer said it would call me after obtaining approvalthey never did. Livette was the most offensive person I have ever dealt with, lied to my face, & refused to authorize the repair & closed the case though she never even spoke with the dealer. These cars have a known dangerous defect & Honda has done nothingthese cars should be recalled. The ntsb should track on-line complaints & obtain all Honda complaints for the last 5 years to determine all models affected. The car's undercarriage is also known to be defective; it is far too low & scrapes on speed bumps & gets torn off by them, parking barriers, & any road incline.
