36 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2018

When brakes are applied, then released, it sometimes take up to two or three seconds to be able to accelerate afterward, even though I am stepping on the accelerator pedal. This is unnerving when entering an intersection (yielding) and you feel you have plenty of time to proceed, until the car fails to accelerate. Honda states it is a safety feature in the event something were to accidentally depress the accelerator while braking. I feel otherwise.

This is my second time. Parked car in garage ,after few hours tried to turn on. When we try to start it wonts, but the sign pops up saying electrical parking brake error. . Car had to be towed twice. Lucky car was in garage when both incident happened. Took it to dealer twice . Today we picked it up found dftc u3ooo-49,ecu internal circuit failure. They performed software update. They said it is ok this time. Can happen again. How can this problem be dealt? my daughter drives this car and she is moving to college in August and will need a car. 38 Service Brakes problem

Several error codes popped up on my dashboard. 39 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

My 2016 Honda Civic touring is equipped with automatic emergency braking. In more than one instance, my Civic has applied the brakes unnecessarily when there was no apparent danger. Traveling on the highway at 65 mph, I have been 'cut-off' by a driver and the brakes were applied hard. There was no way to override the braking and the car commanded itself to a complete stop. The drivers immediately behind me had to brake hard and if they hadn't maintained control there would have been a pile-up. This took place in cobb county, GA during rush hour on 75s in the 'northwest corridor' area. This is a high traffic density area.

40 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2018

Randomly I receive the following error message on my screen when starting my car, "brake system problem". The only way for me to remove the error is to start with my car in park, and move from r, n, d, s, l, and back up to park again. Then I press the break hold on, then break hold off, parking break on, then parking break off, turn off the car, then turn the car back on and the error goes away. This has happened a number of times since I leased the car in 2016 and happened three times just in this month. Always happens randomly. After taking the car to the dealership a number of times and letting them know of the issue they now run a full diagnostics that my warranty is out and think it has to do with a bad cell in the battery. So either there is a fault with the electrical break system or the batteries in the 2016 Honda Civics are bad. A quick google search will show that I am not the only person with this issue.

41 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2018

The collision mitigation braking system engages when there are no objects in front of the vehicle. The system has engaged erroneously numerous times, when driving on the highway and at high speeds (65-70 mph), and the brake engages attempting to bring my vehicle to a complete stop (hard brake). Sometimes I have been able to get it to disengage, but I have had several "close calls" with drivers behind me nearly rear-ending me on the highway when my car unexpected braked (hard). One time, the brakes engaged on the highway with no one and nothing in front of me, and I had to pull over onto the shoulder quickly (to avoid the driver behind me rear-ending me) and got a flat tire as a result. I asked the dealership to fix the issue, but they said they could not get my vehicle to demonstrate/engage in the behavior I was describing, and therefore, said they could not fix it. I also reported it to Honda warranty over the phone. They thanked me for reporting it and suggested I contact a dealership to get it fixed - the dealership did not fix it.

43 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

I received a letter stating that my car had a recall for the emergency brake system. I took it to the dealership to have it fixed however the recall is still open on my vehicle.

44 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Milo gordon Honda misrepresented the repair of a safety recall and sold a 2016 Honda Civic as a new vehicle without completing the repair. On Dec 31 2016, I purchased a new 2016 Honda Civic from milo gordon Honda in lawton, ok. Today, Sep 1, 2017, my electronic brake system malfunctioned in a stationary position on a cross-country trip. After the malfunction, I took the vehicle to orr Honda of paris TX where I discovered the recall of 2016 Honda Civics. Orr Honda conducted a VIN inquiry that showed the software update was completed on oct 12, 2016, prior to my purchase of the vehicle; however, the service department tested my physical vehicle and the required update to the brake system was never made. It appears milo gordon Honda updated the VIN database without ever repairing the actual car, then proceeded to sell it as a new vehicle. After this discovery, orr Honda upgraded the electronic brake system in accordance with the recall issued in 2016. (photos attached).

45 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2017

The electric parking brake continues to generate error codes. I've had it in service at Honda dealers multiple times for the same problem. Honda even issued a recall however, I've had the software update for this problem twice and is still messing up. It has engaged the parking brake on its own.

46 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2017

On two occasions, my Civic has "locked up". Upon starting the vehicle, all of the warning light illuminate and the car won't go into gear. I was stuck where I was and had to get the car moving so I forcefully engaged the vehicle by inserting the key into the shift knob area. When driving the car, all of the warning lights were still on and the steering wheel was difficult to move, the vehicle was very hard to maneuver, the brakes did not work well, and the problem persisted. I eventually disconnected the battery and "reset" the computer that way. The problem went away for a few months, then came back again same exact way. The next time, I did the same thing, disconnected the battery and it reset. I do not know if this problem is with the electrical system, transmission, braking, or whatever. All I know is it was very dangerous to drive after I was finally able to engage the transmission. One other point to make, I already had the "parking brake recall" software update completed by Honda. The dealership said they did not have a recall for this type of problem and all they could do would be restart the car until they were able to recreate the problem. I did no think this was a good use of time (theirs or mine) so I am hoping for a recall soon!.

47 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2017

The ac has went out on two occasions. The first occasion was due to the system needing to be recharged. The second being a hose was not connected correctly. The back tweeter speakers went out and had to be replaced. 3 audio updates needed to be done. While driving the car stopped accelerating and the car started shaking. There was no brakes or power steering at this time. Different codes started lighting up the dash. I was able to get the car stopped and off the road into the ditch area. It is currently at Honda.

48 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2017

Breaking system recall not performed by Honda dealership, even when asked and talked about. Asked service member and the general manager, both took a "do not care" approach. I feel this should be investigated. This is roper Honda in joplin, mo.

49 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2017

While driving the vehicle on city streets the (brake hold) light turns on then it brakes the vehicle on its own in the middle of the road and turns on the (hold) light . In order to continue driving I need to restart the engine back on. This has 3 times already.

50 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2017

My emergency brake would not engage properly resulting in several incidents of the car 'rolling' away after engaging the e-brake. This happened for some time until I could not engage the e-brake at all unless continuously engaging the button and waiting up to 10 minutes and 20+ 'pulls' of the brake button. If I was able to, it would not stay on for good at all times, resulting in the car rolling away quite often. This was extremely scary and unsafe. When Honda said my VIN was not included in the 2016 Civic safety recall regarding the same issue, I decided to fix it out of pocket. However, this recall should be extended to other vins because it is the same problem and may happen again regardless of my dealership fixing it on this occasion. I thought by law, recalls happened by year, make, and model, not necessarily by the specific VIN #s affected (in the past when I was contacted about a safety recall for a different car company, I was told VIN didn't matter, only year, make, and model). I am extremely disappointed in Honda's handling of this situation as it can cause serious injury and death and I think it's only fair to reimburse those of us who have the same exact problem with the 2016 emergency breaks but have not been included in the recall. Honda did tell me that if enough people reported the problem, they might extend the VIN range for the recall. This indicates to me that Honda knows it's problematic in most if not all the 2016 Civics. Thank you for your time.

51 Service Brakes problem

2016 Honda Civic. Consumer writes in regards to brake system and software failures four days after owning the vehicle.

54 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2016

Our 2016 Honda Civic touring car emergency braking system from time to time would not work properly when operating under normal circumstances. Took the car into the dealership in scottsdale, arizona called right Honda. They took the car twice to help fix the problem with the auto braking system. Nevertheless, right Honda drove the car around 81 miles an hour. We have a gps tracking device on the car that alerts us when someone is driving unprofessionally. The right Honda was shown and asked why they drove our car so fast at an unprofessionally speed on a public street in arizona. The service manager just told me it was for testing purposes, to get the car to react. We told them that it was very unprofessional to drive our car at such high speeds and they added that if we do not like it we can take our car somewhere else in the future. We also let Honda America know about the problem and they just told us that they are not responsible for right Honda¿s actions for their unprofessional actions. The good note is that we think right Honda might have finally fixed the emergency braking system problems we were having, when our 2016 Honda Civic touring car would stop by itself from time to time without an object in front of our car. But do not like how Honda America and right Honda dealership handled the situation. Feel they need a lot of help in the customer service category. Including, no dealership should drive anyone¿s car criminally ever.

56 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2016

Me an my boyfriend almost got into an accident when the engine of our vehicle stopped working in the middle of the highway. Luckily we were able to pull over at the last second when the engine actually stopped. We were still in a dangerous area and I couldn't even describe to aaa where were. Fortunately a tow truck driver was passing by and saw us on the side of the road and stopped to help us. Just to give some back story my boyfriend was reading an article about a recall for the piston ring/clip affecting the engine on the 2016 Honda Civics and we immediately went to our dealership and had the car inspected. We were told that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and that there was not a recall on the vehicle. Later on warning lights in the car started to turn on included the brake and engine light. We had a worker at autozone check the lights with one of their tools and were told the lights may have been turned off in the initial inspection of the vehicle prior to our purchase. We went back twice speaking to the manager and service team and were turned away with a list of all of the lights on in the vehicle with no remedy to fix any of the issues. When we brought up the recall again we were told our car did not fall under it. Because of their negligence I and my boyfriend could Ave lost our lives in an accident on the highway. We bought the car may 2016 and the recall was issued February 2016 and was still open at the time of purchase considering the parts to fix the piston problem would not be available until summer. So we were sold a car with an open recall and the issue was not fixed prior to purchase. Now I am stranded without a car because the engine has sustained damage due to this issue. I want my money back and I no longer want this faulty and unsafe vehicle, and I do not trust Honda to fix the issue. We need your help NHTSA!.

The contact stated that the electric parking brake, brake hold system, and air bag srs warning indicators flashed, and the lane keep assist warning indicator deactivated. The vehicle lost power and various warning indicators and gauges flickered. The contact was able to coast the vehicle over to the side of the road. The vehicle was unable to be driven and was towed to a dealer. The dealer was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure, but test drove the vehicle. The vehicle was left at the dealer. The contact placed two calls to the manufacturer, left a voice message, and was waiting for a response. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.

60 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2016

I parked my 2016 Honda Civic in my garage and set the parking brake. I exited the vehicle and walked into the house. The vehicle must have rolled out of the garage (garage surface is rather flat, probably why I didn't see this happen) down my sloped driveway ended up in the neighbors yard. Vehicle sustained damage to the exhaust, bumper, underside of trunk and right rear tire. Thank goodness that nobody was injured. At the time I thought maybe I made a mistake but now that Honda has issued a recall on the parking brake I understand what really happened. I did set the parking brake but it appears that it did not ever set. I have since seen this happen again when I have parked on other somewhat flat surfaces and returned to my vehicle and it appears as though it had moved a small amount. With the release of details in the safety recall (NHTSA campaign number: 16v725000 ) I now understand more about what happened.

61 Service Brakes problem

62 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2016

Vehicle has repeatedly thrown errors with warnings to not drive the vehicle and have it inspected by the dealer. The vehicle has already been to the shop twice for the problem. In both cases Honda installed an updated vsa modulator they claimed would fix the problem. It has not. Not the local dealer doesn't even want to see the vehicle as they tell me their is nothing more they can do for us. They claimed to have emailed Honda corporate to have a regional rep contact us. It has been 4 days since. They say the vehicle is safe, but yet they don't even know what is wrong with it. The vehicle has a defect they cannot correct, and my car is not alone. . Read more...

63 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2016

Computer system had a major malfunction, triggering 6 different warnings, and an audible message to immediately pull over and park the vehicle and have a dealer inspect the vehicle. This happened after filling up the vehicle with gas. My family was in the vehicle with the car in accessory mode, listening to the radio. After finishing up fueling, about five minutes later, I returned to the vehicle. I got in, shut the door, put my foot on the brake, pressed the button to start the vehicle, put on my seat belt, and then saw the messages. After a few minutes with the car on and reading the messages, a voice started to talk and tell me, to stop the vehicle, park it, and have a dealer look at it. The 6 messages on the center display said various things. Such as they were titled: adaptive cruise control problem the pressure monitor system cmbs problems anti-lock brake system problem tire pressure low brake system problem the alarming number of problems about the brake system alone, tells me this vehicle should not be driven. Combine that with the audiable message about pulling over and parking the vehicle, no one in their right mind is going to drive it until it is properly looked at. The dealer did look at it, and said it was the vsa modulator, and needed to be replaced. However, there is case after case of this not fixing the problem found online. Yet people and their families, including mine are being sent back onto the road in these vehicles of which Honda has not and cannot provide a fix for because it, itself does not know what the problem is. Any therefore no one knows if their car is crying wolf, and just waiting to kill them. I don't want my car if I can't trust it. I just can"t wager my families lives on that. They are willing to tell us to drive around in the vehicle even before the first repair is tried. The errors are related to brakes.

64 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2016

While driving on a main road at speed limit on cr 201 in florida (west of I-95 which is a secondary, main, paved road) my emergency brake engaged after I accidentally hit the button on the console. My vehicle immediately slowed at a high rate of speed and veered off the road to the right. Oncoming traffic also veered away and following traffic had to use evasive measures to avoid collision. When I bought my new Honda, I asked the sales rep if that was an issue and he (ray at coggin Honda) said "absolutely not" and explained (paraphrased) that safety precautions are in place to eliminate any premature or accidental emergency engagement of the emergency brake while in gear and while driving.

65 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2016

Car is equipped with a "brake hold" feature that can be activated to hold brakes on while the car is in drive without keeping your foot on the brake, and then press gas to start moving. For the last few days, I have been driving and when I come to a complete stop, I can hear the brake hold click on without it being turned on (there would be an indicator light on the dash), to test it I took my foot off the brake and the car did not move even though the brake hold was not activated. Some of these times, the brake hold would come on, I would take my foot off the gas to see if it was doing it, and then 5-10 seconds later the brake would release and the vehicle would start to move without me doing anything, and without any indicator on the panel. The brake hold feature still works fine when I turn it on, all lights will come on and off when they are supposed to, but the car seems to hold the brakes without me activating the feature, and then they do not hold until I give the car gas, potentially releasing the car to move before I am ready for it to if I am expecting the brakes to be held. This only happens when the vehicle is stationary and comes to a complete stop, but the unexpected release will cause the vehicle to start moving suddenly.

66 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2016

Hi, I purchased 2016 Civic in Dec, 2015. I I have experience 3 issues till now 1. Electronic brake - I have had 2 incidents where my electronic parking brake engaged automatically while driving, luckily was driving in city at lower speeds. But last week, was driving on interstate, stopped to fill gas - turned engine on, brake was engaged. Would not respond to the brake switch. Had to keep trying for a min or two before I was able to turn it off. 2. Sudden resistance - have experience this quite frequently, need more acceleration to get the vehicle into motion mainly at traffic stops. 3. Car radio - my model is equipped with all touch sensitive buttons. Power button on radio mostly do not respond.

67 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2016

Bought the car in mid February and it began to read "brake system problem" once the car was turned on and stationary a few weeks after. I took it to the dealership in March and they "cleared" the codes and test drove it. In April, the same error appeared but now with more errors such as "tire pressure low, brake system problem, charging system problem and anti lock brake system problem. " I took it to the dealership once again and they replaced the "abs modulator" and "cleared" the codes. Once again a month later (June), the same errors are appearing.
