In 2017 a Honda Civic was brought, 2 weeks later ac problems started. Vehicle was returned for repairs requested by a senior dealership personnel. Problems continued with same issue and not fixed. Recent recalls of the ac compressor and other ac defects of this vehicle has been denied several times (up till now). Honda has repeatedly denied claim to resolve this issue when it has been acknowledged that the original ac systems in most of these vehicles are defective. Vehicle is very hot especially in these very high and hot temperature conditions.

The ac condenser, compressor, blower, & evapoartor core all broke down. After repair, I’m still receiving a “fog horn noise” audiable sound. This is dangerous as I have no a/c in the hot summer. The dealer inspected the vehicle and confirmed the issue. They will only fix the first two (condensor & compressor) under warranty, which I’m not under warranty. They say Honda won't fix the evaporator core even though this one breaking is almost certainly a result of the condesor & compressor breaking. We believe this should also be covered under warranty. There was no warning of the issue. The evaporator core costs $2k to repair and Honda refuses to help, even though the dealer let us know that this part breaking was almost certainly caused by the parts under warranty breaking down. We asked for second oppinions with other mechanics who told us the same thing. Ended up repairing at a 3rd party shop after spending 45 days within 2 years in the shop for this issue, and paying over $5k in diagnostic and recharged coolant. The lemon law statutes are on the horizon, and the prima facie negligence to avoid repair is on the face of this ongoing issue.

While driving down the highway we heard a horrible grinding sound. We pulled over and looked under the car. The engine sheild was dragging. We took it to the dealer and it was replaced at a cost of $405. 03. Today 339 days after the part was replaced and 16,000 miles after the replacement the same thing happened. This time the shield actually fell off in the middle of the road. So we are going to replace it again. I was curious about if this was a common problem and it is. Often it occurs after an oil change when the mechanic fails to secure the shield properly. And often at Honda dealers. Seems fishy to me. What can we do about this? am I going to have to replace the shield every year?.

39 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

For several months, I was facing an issue with being able to lock and unlock my car properly. You could hear the mechanisms in the car trying to respond when I would press my key fob or the buttons inside the car but the locks themselves would not move. I would either need to use my physical car key to manually lock or unlock the door. Or if I was in the vehicle, I would manually unlock the driver door and then re-lock it. The problem seemed to start out of nowhere. The dealer confirmed the problem and said it was related to the door lock actuator. In two of the doors, the actuators had failed and in the other two they were on their way to failing. I had all four replaced which was a large and unexpected expense. But the ability to get in and out of the car safely and know that it is safely locked to prevent theft is very important. I did send a letter to Honda corporate about this problem and I felt this was a very strange part to stop working on a car that was brought brand new 6 year sago.

My 2017 Honda Civic touring, has had two major issues in the past two months. So far, I have put about $3,000 in these issues. Issue 1:two months ago, they found a leak in the front seal of the compressor, and it had to be replaced. There is no extended warranty on the compressor (only the condenser), though it seems to be a big issue for the Civic. This expense was approximately $2000. Issue 2:long story short, a few weeks ago, my car alarm started going off about every four hours and had killed my battery by the next morning. During this time, my key fabs no longer worked and we had to jump the car to take it to the shop. The body control module had gone out with no pervious warnings. Honda told my mechanic they’re on backorder and it will be nine months to a year before they could get a replacement. They located a used one and installed it. Though they were told it was a match, it was missing certain elements that my car had – back seat windows, auto lock when you exit your car, and front led blinkers. My front blinkers no longer work, and the previous Honda was probably bulbs. Needless to say, this can only be a temporary fix because it’s dangerous and won’t pass inspection. So far this expense has cost approximately $900. I’ve emailed Honda, and my issue has been ignored. They haven’t offered to help for either case. These things should not be happening to Civics with this low mileage and age. So I now have a new bcm on backorder with a Honda dealer, and some time down the road, I will be paying for this expense again.

Keyless entry problem on my car. I was unable to get into my car and when I used the key from the fob to enter the car, the car wouldn't start. I was stranded and needed to call for help. The car was jumped and started again to get it back to my house. In the morning, the car wouldn't start again so was towed to a local mechanic in my town called desert dawg and they were able to start the car again and it drove for about a week and then the same problem happened. They put in a new battery and worked again for about a week. The car then would start but wouldn't shut off without disconnecting the battery. Then one night the car just started beeping uncontrollably and the car would not shut off the beeping and key fob not recognized. Towed back to desert dawg and said it was a keyless entry problem but the part he needed to fix it was on national shortage and could take 7 months or more to get the part. He told me to take it to the Honda dealership to see if they could help me. Car towed again to Honda dealership and they said it was a keyless entry problem and the part called a body control module with part number: 38809-tbc-a31 was on back order and on national shortage and the part may not arrive for 7 months or longer or never. I now have no car to get to work. I called the Honda corporation and got the same answer of this part being on national shortage. How can people be left stranded. I live in arizona and the temperatures get very hot and people could die if their car doesn't start. Please address this issue. Thanks.

42 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2023

My ac system stopped working and when checked it was a faulty ac condenser that was on recall. So the dealer fixed it for free then about 4 months later my air blows only hot again. Went back to get it checked and now they are saying the evaporator core needs to be replaced and charged me $2600 to fix. Seems fishy and I feel if one component is failing the whole system should be covered under an extended warranty.

Ac blowing hot air.

44 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2023

Paint is completely flaking off down to the metal along the edges around the rear window on roof, driver quarter panel, and passenger quarter. It has been flaking for 2 years now. I bought the car in 2017 brand new.

45 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2023

Bottom window molding on all 4 windows fails prematurely, seemingly happening on every 10th-generation Honda.

46 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2022

I purchased a 2017 Honda Civic lx from a local Honda. 10 minutes after leaving the dealership, the tpms lights came on. Please note it was cold outside. Took the car to autozone to have codes read. Code c0077-78 was detected. Once I got home, I checked the tire air pressure and the tire air pressure was low. I added air to tire afterward. I reset the tpms and the tpms light went away. The next day, the light came on for a few seconds after I started the car, but the light disappeared again. I didn't check the air pressure. I took it to autozone to see if any codes were detected, but no codes were detected and all systems were functional.

Ac evaporator core failure. It appears Honda Civic has ac problems. This is the second time the ac has stopped working.

The nh-788p white orchid pearl paint that was given an extended warranty due to a "paint peeling problem" on the fit and hr-v models is now affecting Civics. I currently own a 2017 Civic hatchback with the same paint, from the same country of manufacturing origin, within the same time frame, and was never given an extension warranty and currently am being denied help. The worst paint peeling, under the trunk, is actually protected from weather . . . This is easily a defect that originated from Honda. Honda is denying any responsibility at the moment, refuses to help me via phone calls or email defaulting to the response of "your car isn't under warranty. " even though they have acknowledged issues and provided coverage for different models and canada covers my situation unlike the USA: [xxx] had I know about this defect with my car with an official statement from Honda, it would have impacted my choices back in 2020 and 2021. I would of sold it around 2021 or contacted Honda earlier to settle these issues that would of happened under the extended warranty if I was given one. Honda's constant inaction once again damages consumers everywhere where the repair for paint is roughly 60% of the value of the car itself . . . Ac does not work! it only blows hot air. It gets very hot in the car, even with all the windows rolled down. Also, gas cap is broken. Does not close all the way and sticks out. So therefore it no longer locks. Thought my gas was possibly getting stolen, but there was no changes to my gas.

Ed morse changed my push to start button and now my car has a body control module. Which draining my battery every day. Now I've changed the battery 6 times. I'm left with the parts being on back order. Ed morse service manager told me the parts came in and they were trying to reach me which was a lied because when I showed up they told me they don't have it now they nor sure when the parts are coming. The parts are on back order in japan.

This is a known issue with Hondas from 2016 and up where the body control module (bcm) is faulty and malfunctioning. When the car turns off, it turns itself back on and makes noises to turn itself back on. This issue may cause possible electrical issues that may short and start a fire internally. Honda dealerships across the country have known about this issue for many years, yet they have not fixed the problem. There are youtube videos entailing the same occurrences in a lot of other people's cars, including myself. My vehicle has not been inspected but spoke with several Honda dealerships about the issue, and they are all aware of the issue, yet have no solution but to replace it. The bcm is on backorder for months and people are without cars to use due to the repeated occurrences for everybody. There are no signs of any issues before the faulty bcm malfunctions. Dealerships charge $1500-2500 for car repairs that they are not able to fix due to the backorder of the component. If this issue has been going on for several years, why hasn't Honda fixed and replace the issue, instead of knowing the issue and making their customers pay a large amount of money to fix what they know will go wrong? it is unethical and demoralizing to have a company take advantage of its customers. . 2017 Honda Civic with 15k milage - a/c broke down for the second time after I had it’s condenser replaced at the dealership in 2019 due to cracks/holes. I took it to the dealership few days ago and they told me it costs $509. 00 for diagnosis. Took it somewhere else to recharge it but it only lasted 2 days and we’re back to blowing warm air but what’s interesting is that the passenger side’s vent blows slightly cooler air than the driver side! I took it to many auto repair places and I was told many times that 2016-2019 models have faulty a/c which Honda knows about but won’t issue a recall. I hope these complaints lead to a formal investigation.

Brake system indicator light came on 2 weeks prior to driver assist failure, cruise control no longer works, lane departure malfunction, collision detection malfunction, adaptive steering malfunction. Basically the whole driver assisted system no longer works I took it to be fixed by shop they cleared codes but problem still exists.

The paint started to fade and turn white 3 1/2 years ago. Called Honda and they said they were aware of the paint failure but my color did not have many with that issue and they could not do a recall on my color. Been fighting them for over 3 years and not I have several body parts that are having paint failure.

This complaint is specifically about the a/c evaporator in my Honda Civic. After taking my car in for the 2nd time in about 13 months (to the Honda dealership), the a/c system appears to be faulty on my vehicle. After online research, it appears that this is very common issue for many 2016-2019 Honda Civic models and it’s hard to imagine the company isn’t aware. Thus far, the company has offered to cover the condenser issue (after the company was in a class action lawsuit) but will not cover the a/c evaporator, which costs over $2000. Given the recent heat waves, the safety of myself and my passengers are potentially compromised until this issue is fixed, especially those with disabilities. It would be highly appreciated if this matter is investigated and resolved for all Honda Civic owners. Thank you!.

2017 Honda Civic the ac stopped cooling in the middle of summer in summer California where the temperature is regularly above 110 degrees. An ac failure in this area is a safety issue. After paying $289 for diagnosis they said the evaporator is leaking. The warranty was extended for all 2017 Honda Civics for leaks of the condenser. They also have similar complaints for the compressors. We have 3 other older Hondas that have never had an evaporator start leaking and when we said that to the service tech, he said that newer Hondas are less reliable. This is at a Honda dealership, so it's quite the sales pitch for buying a new Honda. It seems obvious that the 2017 Honda Civic has an overall problem with the ac. I was quoted $1800 for repair, but I am not convinced that is the problem. I wish I hadn't taken it to a dealership to start with, but I was sure that they would be honest and cover the repair under warranty. A new aftermarket evaporator from a very reputable company costs under $70 so that's a lot of labor costs added on. Civicx. Com has so many reports of this problem that it's over 12 pages long. This problem should definitely be covered under the 10 year extended warranty.

I got a new Honda Civic last 2017. My car air conditioning has not been working for the past months. When I started have it fix, I called different car repair shop in orange county for the past months. They always asked me about my car model and year and every time I give it to them they turned me down from shop like firestone, pepboys, and several of their branch and even small repair shop. I went to Honda service but they charge me too much I can’t afford. Luckily my car was accepted for ac repair in one of pepboys branch. They assessed and recharge my car ac but less than a month ac is not working I brought it back after they say a lot of problem and charging me too much. I just need a working ac for my car. Please help me have my car fix fairly in this difficult time.

Last week the ac in my '17 Honda Civic hatchback went out and I took it to the local dealership to have it diagnosed. Upon review, they informed me the ac's evaporator unit is leaking and it will cost $800 to replace. I'm aware there is a recall (TSB 19-091) on the condenser from 2016-2018 Civics. Honda came out with a TSB regarding this issue, all 2016-2018 Civics have 10yr/unlimited mile warranties now on condensers. TSB 19-091, dated Dec 11th 2019. Per the bulletin: " american Honda is extending the warranty on the a/c condenser to 10 years from the original date of purchase with unlimited miles. This warranty only covers vehicles that have a defective a/c condenser from the factory. The a/c condenser was not manufactured to specification. As a result, tiny holes may develop in the condenser tube walls that allows the refrigerant to leak out. " however, there seems to be an equally large number of complaints online about compressors and evaporators failing in those years of Civic as well. Every single private mechanic I spoke to said they's seen dozens of '17 Civics with the exact same issue and to take it back to Honda. As such, it turns out failure across all the components of the ac system (compressors/condensers/evaporators) is relatively common after only a handful of years. I believe an amended bulletin should be provided to cover all repairs across the ac system. As a 1st responder, it is not safe for me to drive this vehicle to/from work in the 115 degree weather that we get here in fresno, CA. . Read more...

61 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2022

The board control module failed and replacements are not available. Available for inspection upon request. Due to the component failing, the vehicle goes to accessory mode randomly or even to its on without engine mode. The wireless key will not grant access during these times or remote start. Without constantly charging the battery, the vehicle will completely discharge its battery. This issue has been verified with the dealership and component inspected. No warning lamps gave away the process of the failure. Warning lights only appear now after jumping the vehicle from a depleted battery due to the failure.

Air-conditioner (a/c, ac). 2017 Civic ex-l sedan. A/c system blows only warm air on drivers side vents, but seems to blow cool(er) from passenger side vents. Just adding this to the many other complaints about a/c system in 10th gen Honda Civics.

63 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2022

Pre-incident. . . . Improper weather stripping around both front and back windshield hold water on seams around installed windows. This results in air bubbles separating the glass from the glue seam and rubber seats. If too many occur for a long enough period, windshield can crack, shatter or break completely free during normal driving. This is happening on a less than 5 year old car. Honda dealership has inspected and taken pictures of bubble areas that are occurring between the entire seal. Bubbles started occurring 3 years ago and got significantly worse over time. No warning lamps.

64 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2022

The air conditioning system failed—specifically, the a/c evaporator developed a leak and stopped functioning. This is part of the same system that previously experienced failures in the compressor and condenser, both of which were replaced under warranty. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Loss of air conditioning, especially in hot weather, presents a heat-related safety risk, including reduced driver alertness and potential heat exhaustion—particularly for long drives or when transporting vulnerable passengers (e. G. Children, elderly). Additionally, a non-functioning defogger (which relies on the a/c system) can impair visibility in humid or rainy conditions, increasing the risk of an accident.

65 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2021

My ac stopped blowing cold air in October 2021. The car has 32,000 miles. (there is an error in the dealer report. ) I brought the car to an independent mechanic. He said he could not fix the problem because only Honda dealers have the proper coolant for the system. The dealer said the front of the compressor is leaking at the gasket and needs to be replaced at a cost of $1350. This seems to be a common problem in this generation of Honda Civics. Honda has extended the warranty for the condenser, but not the compressor. They need to extend the warranty for the compressor as well. This is an unhealtful situation because leaking freon is not good and because now I have to drive with the windows open and breathe in the exhaust of other cars. Thank you.

Driving at 60mph, heard a loud bang followed by an increase in wind noise. After pulling over, saw that the sunroof had a large hole in it with most of the broken glass falling into the sunroof soft cover. The remaining glass had a spider-web like pattern all the way to the border. There was no evidence of any foreign object in the sunroof area or any impact/collision. The car was not being driven under trees or other overhangs. There was rain in the vicinity, but no hail. Temperature was 45-50 degrees fahrenheit.

Honda service bulletin 19-091 warranty extension : a/c condenser leaking my vehicle began to blow hot air on the driver side. No warning lights or service light warned me. I need to understand if my car is covered by the Honda service bulletin 19-091.

Unable to attain a comfortable cabin temperature due to a leaking evaporator located under the dashboard in the cabin. Driver comfort is necessary in the torrid arizona heat. Driver discomfort can compromise the safe operation of a vehicle. A comfortably cooled cabin is essential for safe vehicle operation. Inhaling leaking refrigerant gas in a closed cabin is unhealthful and unsafe. Honda has built and delivered Civics with defective air conditioning components and then as these parts failed, the Civic owners have to pay for essential repairs. Honda did replace the condenser on this vehicle at no cost on 6/8/2020. The recent replacement of the evaporator and actuator valve did come at a discounted cost of $1,537. 50. I appreciate the technicians that repaired the car. The failure of the condenser and the evaporator are indicative of the defective and deficient quality of the parts used and are a harbinger of more related parts to fail, namely the compressor, all tubing and related seals, and the dryer. These parts are not covered under any warranty. The only parts of reliable value are the knobs and buttons on the dashboard. I was not able to get possession of the evaporator that was removed because I did not make the request when the service order was written. It would have been helpful to evaluate the part for failure. I am not sure why Honda does not care to evaluate failed parts. The remedy for all affected Civic owners would be for the NHTSA to direct Honda USA to immediately remove every air conditioning component and replace the entire system with a highly reliable oem quality air conditioning system that is immune from failure. The cost of this resolution would be paid entirely out of Honda executive management compensation. The NHTSA and Honda USA need to understand that safety cannot be compromised! there will be a declining demand for Honda cars made with deficient and defective parts.

This to help all the others with the ac issue. 2019 bought the car and the ac barely worked. Have extended warranty with carmax and went to Honda of winter park. Well my girlfriend did I was away. They charged her $350 to say the compressor was shot. And that the cost was around $2200. I find out and she goes to carmax with the estimate and they replace everything. We break up I come back get in the car ac doesn't work. Now I'm in lake city, go to Honda, this is were you need to pay attention. The condenser was replaced, for free, they said it was $150 to find the problem. Had my 45k mile service done as well. Show up at the dealership and my cost? $0 to my shock the service manager was honest. The condenser is under Honda warranty. They waved the $150 cause I told them it couldn't be the compressor, had to be the condenser. And the they gave me the oil change for free. Do not let Honda service around the country charge you for the problem they already know. $300, to $700 estimates? shameful. Go to Honda tell them it's the condenser. If the ac seems to blow out of 1 vent cold while the rest warm, or the ac is cold when it's still cool outside, or even hearing a slight hiss under the hood. It's the condenser. Tell them you want the condenser changed. Nothing else! you have control of what they fix on your car. They know what's wrong without lifting the hood. My ac is ice cold. Took 3 years but it works. You don't have to be charged for diagnosis. And everyone that was cheated and treated unfairly there is a Honda number of they're us home office. Call tell them. I was told by the service manager that $150 is the highest they go. Why? cause they have to remove the front bumper just to check. So be specific. I need the condenser replaced.

Honda Civic is a 2017 and the ac went out> there has been a lot of Civics from 16-18 that have had the same issues. Honda will not do a recall due to defective a/c compressor units even though there has been several cases. Summer is here and my 17 Civic gets up to 110 degrees inside while transporting family. I have done some research and there is tons of websites filled with people complaining about the same issue. This has cost them hundreds of dollars and still no recall.
