I am filing a formal safety-related complaint regarding my 2025 Honda Civic sport touring hybrid and the performance of its driver assistance systems. This vehicle uses a camera-only driver assist and lane keeping system. I previously owned a 2018 Honda Civic touring that used both radar and camera. The earlier radar+camera system performed significantly better, maintained the lane more accurately, and provided smoother, more predictable behavior. The 2025 camera-only system frequently: – drifts within the lane – loses lane tracking unexpectedly – requires frequent driver intervention – feels less stable at highway speeds in my opinion, the newer vehicle’s system represents a downgrade in functional safety compared with prior-generation Honda systems. This change was not disclosed during the sales process, and many owners may assume newer models offer equal or better driver-assist performance. My concern is that removal of radar and reliance on camera-only sensing has resulted in degraded lane keeping performance that could increase crash risk due to unexpected disengagement or poor lane centering. I request this information be reviewed as part of consumer safety monitoring of driver assistance systems. While in cruise mode, car has several times suddenly and rapidly braked for a semi truck that did not exist. Most of the instances the road ahead was completely clear. On one occasion this nearly caused the vehicle behind me to ram me.
On a two way lane highway, vehicle detects on coming traffic and causes sudden deceleration of vehicle and braking which can cause being rear ended by another vehicle. This also occurs on multi lane freeways when going in the same direction the vehicle will detect a vehicle in the lane next to me braking and again cause the vehicle to decelerate and brake which could cause an accident. Occurs at least once or twice a week. I have a video of the issue which might be better.
While driving at highway speeds with the adaptive cruise control system active, the system is causing the vehicle to come to a complete stop to avoid a collision that does not exsist. In all cases when this has occurred, there are no other vehicles on the road. This inlcudes in front, beside or coming toward me from the opposite direction. When this does occur, the screen does show a vehicle icon as if it is detecting a vehicle in front of me but there is none. Since purchasing this vehicle in may 2025, this issue has occurred 6 times. I have brought this to my dealers attention during my most recent visit and was advised Honda was working on an update to resolve this issue but I have not received any communication from Honda indicating a recall was coming or an update to resolve.
While utilizing adaptive cruise control in clear weather, the system will harshly brake when there are no obstacles or vehicles ahead. I have almost been rear ended on numerous occasions due to unexpected braking while at highway speeds. I have not gone to the dealership yet, but intend to do so. During these braking events there are no other warning lights, and no other visual or audio alerts.
I've previously reported the cmbs (collision mitigation braking system) and rdms (road departure mitigation system) warning messages that have been appearing too frequently. Today is the day it finally happened, my wife was driving on the highway when auto cruise control with lane keep assist set at 66 on the passing lane, with a truck to the right. Halfway passing the truck on auto cruise control with lane keep assist, our Honda suddenly automatically braked (went from 66mph to ~56mph, there were no vehicles in front of her). She urgently took back control and sped up as the warning lights flashed (collision mitigation braking system problem - 60mph and road departure mitigation system - 58mph, pictures attached) and the driving assist features that were originally on all became disabled. All of this happened at about the same time in a manner of ~3 seconds. She was lucky that no one was behind her at that moment, and she did not get into an accident or worse! Honda has done nothing to fix this issue, and we have already taken the vehicle to the dealership's service 3 times already. Please expand the investigation to all Honda vehicles that uses their driver assistance system including models of newer years! this is really dangerous!! I've included photos of many of the previous times the error/warning message has appeared, and I've included the photo of the error/warning message that appeared right after incident occurred today. These error/warning messages has come up at least over 50+ times now since I've owned this car.
When traveling with cruise control enable the vehicle random slams on the brakes by itself even when their is no vehicle present in front. This has happened mutiple times on the highway and interstate. It has almost gotten me rearened from a vehicle deiving behind me. This is extremely dangerous. I made the dealership aware of the issue and they refused to address it.
